Playing Hurt has an interesting premise -- a hockey player with a nagging injury and a pop star with damaged vocal chords flirt via Twitter, start dating, and find a way to love and support each other through their struggles. I enjoyed the plot and thought it was rather original for the most part, and I liked how the protagonists could truly understand what one another was going through. My issue was with the writing itself. I found the passion between the two main characters believable but there were parts of the book where the writing seemed almost juvenile, especially in the beginning where a point or information that was implied it was still explicitly stated in parentheses or another sentence. The story was good, the writing not so much IMHO.

Chase Hartman is a hockey player in his prime, but struggling with poor play due to a mysterious injury to his wrist. Jordyn is a well-known pop star who also is struggling with an injury to her throat. Chase and Jordyn meet via twitter after she starts following Chase and they start banter about hockey. After she loses a bet they have their first date in Chicago, which is where Chase played hockey and is Jordyn's home town. The coming chapters they both deal with their injuries, trust and whether or not they can make it work.

Overall a solid book in the series with a few cameos from previous books. I felt the hockey parts were much stronger than the pop star parts, but it balanced well. It was nice to have the women in the relationship be just as famous as the guy.

I am a fan of Kelly Jamieson books and especially the hockey series. This is the story of Chase and Jordyn. Chase endeared himself to me right from the start and his issues with his parents were heart wrenching to read. He was a good guy and I liked him until the entire playing hurt scenes and then he started to annoy me and I was not happy with the way he then treated Jordyn. Re redeemed himself later. Their attraction and chemistry was great.

What an amazing story of facing your fears, falling in love, and coming back from the brink of self destruction. Kelly Jamieson writes awesome hockey romance books, and this was just another addition to the read again pile. It proves that the love and caring of one special person is enough to get you through the worst times of your life. When you least expect it, love walks up behind you and sucker punches you in the face!!

The Aces series is one of my favorite hockey series. I cannot wait for the next book!

A professional hockey player and a pop princess, what could they have in common ? The game of hockey and the fact that they both are at a point in life where they don’t know if they will continue doing what they love most.
Playing hurt was a heartwarming read. It is perfect balance of fun and serious making it an enjoyable read. The understanding between them and being a support for the other was just amazing and their hot chemistry the perfect icing.

Chase is considered a reformed bad boy after learning that if you party to much there are serious consequences. Such as getting traded from the team in New York to the Chicago Aces.
Music superstar Jordyn Banks loves her some hockey, especially her homtown team , the Chicago Aces, so it comes as quite a surprise to find herself flirting back and forth on twitter with Chicago Ace hockey player, Chase Hartman.
Chase is a big fan of Jordyn Bank's and when he see's her tweeting one night about a hockey game on tv, he find's himself unable to resist tweeting at her. One tweet lead's to another and before he know's it he's made a bet with the hot superstar. If his team win's they go on a date. Jordyn is willing to play Chase's game and take's the bet......  and loses.
After a pretty successful date, Chase is down to go another one but Jordyn shut's him down. After all it's impossible for anything to come of this sine he work's and lives in Chicago and she in L.A.
Fate has something else in mind though. After suffering an embarrassing performance on national television, Jordyn  flies home to discover that a polyp had burst and it required surgery to fix otherwise she wouldn't be able to sing again.
Spending all her recovery time in L.A. with very little close friends and no family doesn't really appeal to Jordyn, so she head's home to Chicago. Chase seeing what had happened on live TV was concerned and even though she shut him down he felt he had to reach out.
Jordyn had felt bad about what she said to Chase on their first date because she really did have a great time with him and enjoyed his company. She decides to give it second chance and agree's to go out on another date with him. Neither one of them is looking for anything long term with the unspoken truth hanging over them. Once Jordyn is fully recovered she will go back to L.A. to continue her career.
Chase is plagued with issues from his childhood that have progressed all through his adolescence and into adulthood and he becomes a self saboteur in their relationship. But will he realize his mistakes in time to get Jordyn back or will it be too late?

I loved this book, it had me hooked from the first page, the witty banter between both main characters was perfect. Kelly Jamieson has a great writing style. Her writing perspective for both male and female was flawless. I could not put this book down. You root for these two thoughout the entire book. What a great story!

It is hard to imagine two more likable characters than Jordyn and Chase. I could have read ten more chapters of nothing but their interaction, whether on a romantic getaway or in the middle of a disagreement. The author created two characters who had achieved great success in their fields, but were both struggling with possible career altering conditions. Naturally the tension in the book is developed through their trying to develop and maintain a relationship while dealing with their own insecurities and issues.
It would be easy for a book like this to devolve into melodrama, but these are such normal, decent and engaging characters, that you know it won’t. The drama, and the fun and sizzle is in now they will work it out. Because they are so awesome you know they have to.
This is a great book about hockey, hockey lovers, and coming to terms with the obstacles in life. It’s a Goldilocks book that has just the right amount of most everything.

This book was beyond fantastic. It stars pop princess, Jordyn and Chase, a hockey player. Both end up with injuries and get grounded and both live in different cities and Twitter is their contact. It was definetly a different premise than I have ever seen in a book, and it really worked.

Chase and Jordyn have one date/ a bet date and it is great but they live in different cities. That is until Jordyn is forced to take a break and ends up in Chase's town. I loved watching them get to know the other and fall in love while trying to figure out how to make it work long term since they live in different places.

This was a super fun and romantic story and my total favorite in the series.

I LOVED this book!! Such super sweet characters. So real, so charming! I really enjoyed being in their lives (that's how the author makes you feel), even for just the day it took to read the book. Great Job Ms. Jamieson!!

Cute story about a hockey player named Chase and a singer named Jordyn. The story has a fun set up of meeting by flirting on twitter and betting on a hockey game for a date. Their flirty banter was on point and the chemistry was great. I loved that when they had problems and things went wrong they may have fallen apart but they eventually worked through things. Great story!

I don’t know what today’s writers would do without social media platforms to serve as secondary characters to the humans. Sometimes I find it distracting; a “tell” when I want “show.” But “Playing Hurt” employs social media (especially Twitter) without relying on it.

The romance between Jordyn and Chase begins when one “follows” the other and a very public flirtation commences.

And boy is it public. She’s a rising pop star with 10 million followers and he’s an NHL player with the Chicago Aces. Side note: This is the seventh entry in the series and I’m not nearly ready to leave it.

Of course they meet in person and discover they have something in common besides fame and an insane attraction. Chiefly, they are both playing hurt.

I liked both characters but especially enjoyed Chase’s inner monologue. He doesn’t have a lot of illusions about himself, even regarding his wild past. As for Jordyn, she’s far from the bratty celebrity one might expect. Each has enough quirks and secrets to keep them interesting and sympathetic, which is saying something because sometimes I have a hard time enjoying a story about two beautiful, talented, healthy (and usually rich) people as they stumble toward their HEA. I don’t have that problem here. These are characters worth the investment, with a satisfying conclusion that makes me look forward to the next novel in the series.

I received an ARC for an honest review.

3.5 stars
I do love a good sports romance! Jordyn is a famous popstar who is a big hockey fan and used to people using her due to her fame. Chase is a famous hockey player who is struggling this season and also used to people using him. Chase has secretly like Jordyn for a while and is shocked when she begins following him on Twitter. One things leads to another and a bet is made for them to go on a date. However, can they survive a long distance relationship with her living in LA and Chase in Chicago? One of my favorite parts of this book is the witty banter between the two of them on Twitter. They also go on these wonderful dates - oh I would love for Chase to be my book boyfriend based on his date ideas! Chase and Jordyn have great chemistry between them and I enjoy their easy and hilarious banter. I love all of Kelly Jaimeson's ACE's Hockey books and while this one was very entertaining, it is not my favorite. Still Playing Hurt is definitely worth the read and I definitely plan on reading the next book in the ACE's hockey series.
I received this book as an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I received a copy of Playing Hurt by Kelly Jamieson from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am a hockey fan so the summary initially intrigued me and overcame any apprehension jumping into an on-going series (rather than finding the first book and going in order). Happily, it was easy enough to fall into the story and pick up on the characters and their relationships to one another.

I thought this novel was a fun read overall. Generally fast paced, likeable characters, steamy scenes, and a fun plot. It was just an enjoyable way to pass a rainy spring day!

I would definitely be interested in reading earlier novels by Kelly Jamieson and recommend this book without reservation.

Fantastic build up.

Wow this book was so amazing it pulled at everything inside of me. Too famous people both famous for different reasons end up going on a date. Neither realized how much they needed each other. I cannot say enough good things about this book. I started it and I just could not put it down. Chase was a really good guy who loved hockey but had been let down so many times by people who love him. He had so many insecurities that he didn't even realize he had. Jordyn was a really nice person doing what she loved but something was missing in her life and she really didn't know what. A bet on twitter changed both their lives for the better. Their love story is an amazing journey with so many ups and down. It is a really romantic. Kelly Jamieson did a really amazing job with this one and I cannot wait until the next one. Thanks for the chance to review this book NetGalley. I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
