This is the debut novel by Emma Tallon and what a debut novel it is. I absolutely loved reading it but more about that in a bit.
We first meet Anna Davis as she is fleeing a violent relationship. By the sounds of it, her then boyfriend kept her a virtual prisoner and she wasn’t allowed to leave the house. Her former boyfriend is the sort of man, who thinks that if he can’t have her then nobody will. He is soon on to her and vows to track her down. Not surprisingly Anna is afraid for her life and with good reason. Anna is one feisty young lady but this relationship has worn her down somewhat and she suffers from panic attacks. Anna ends up sharing a flat with a former stripper called Tanya Smith. Tanya sounds like a lovely lady, who has a big heart and who loves to have a good time. It isn’t long until Anna and Tanya become firm friends. Anna does have trust issues too and at times these issues get in her way. Although she isn’t looking for a relationship, Anna catches the eye of a gangland figure called Freddie Tyler. Freddie sounds like the exact opposite of Anna’s former boyfriend. When Freddie is with Anna, she is his world and he does everything he can to make her happy. Freddie can be kind and considerate but I wouldn’t like to get on the wrong side of him because when he kicks off he scares the poop out of me. However appearances and people can be deceptive and are Tanya and Freddie who they really say they are or is Anna in even more danger than she was before? Will Anna’s ex track her down? Well for the answers to those questions and more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.
Blimey, oh riley this was certainly a read and a half. The book starts with a bang, hits the ground running and maintains the pace throughout. I feared for Anna’s safety so much that I empathised with her and I felt myself go through similar feelings to her when she thought that she was in danger. There were moments where I felt my heart rate increase, my blood pressure rise and I didn’t want to turn the page because I genuinely feared what was going to happen next. I even found myself holding my breath because I didn’t want to give any clues away that I was there. Then I had to give my head a shake and tell myself that it was fiction and that the characters couldn’t hear me. If I am enjoying a book then I tend to ‘live’ the story which is exactly what happened in this case. Reading this book was like being on a rather scary rollercoaster ride with lots of twists and turns and moments where you feel your stomach churn in anticipation of what is happening. I did become addicted to reading this book and because I wanted to see what was going to happen to Anna, I just kept turning the pages. The page numbers and the time flew past but because I was enjoying the book so much, I hadn’t noticed.
I would have no hesitation in recommend this book and this author to other readers. This is certainly an ideal book for fans of Martina Cole, Kimberley Chambers, Mandasue Heller, Jessie Keane and Casey Kelleher. Emma Tallon deserves to be as popular as the aforementioned authors. If the underworld is as scary as it sounds then I don’t want any part of it. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series and I sincerely hope that we don’t have too long to wait. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a well deserved 5* out of 5*.
This book is absolutely brilliant. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait for the next one.
This book reminded me of Martina Cole’s earlier books which I also loved. It will grab hold of you and won’t let go.
I loved the character, Anna, and despite everything she’s been through, her grit and determination really shone through.
In this book we follow Anna as she escapes one life and she starts again in a different part of London. She is never completely free of her old life as people are hunting her down and she can never feel completely safe.
Tanya gives her somewhere to stay and then she meets Freddie who is handsome, kind and charming.... but he is also the local Face.
Anna has no idea who he really is and her feelings grow stronger each time she sees him.
Events take a turn for the worse and the last few chapters will simply take your breath away as Anna’s past and present collide.
This is a fantastic book and I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
This is the authors debut novel and what a great start to her writing career.
The story starts with Anna running for her life from her brutal boyfriend Tony. He’s a sadistic evil man who treated Anna real badly. As soon as I read this I was gripped and next thing I knew I’d finished the book.
Anna meets Tanya and Freddie who both help her to move on but are they who they say they are.
I found this to be a really well written story that had me gripped from start to finish. I can’t wait to read more.
runaway girl is a gangster style book. whilst it’s not a bad read it is tamer than some i’ve read in the same genre. a second book is planned in the series and it will be interesting to see how the characters and storyline will develop.
many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the Publisher, Bookouture for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review. Also thank you to Noelle from Bookouture for organising the Blog Tour.
I have to admit this is not my usual genre of books, although I have read a couple of ‘gangland’ books recently which I have really enjoyed. I’m glad I decided to give this one a try as I really enjoyed it!
Anna Davis is on the run from her gangster boyfriend. Ending up in London, she meets two strangers who help turn her life around. Tanya is a stripper, who becomes Anna’s best friend and Freddie would do absolutely anything for Anna. But are they really the people she thinks they are?
This story was gritty and raw, just like I’ve seemed to find in books of this genre. You can’t write a gangland book without it being a bit brutual and hard-hitting and this certainly was! The characters were all likeable, and Anna in particular was definitely a favourite. The story was fast paced and kept up the action all the way through. It certainly had me biting my nails down to the knuckle a few times in suspense and the adrenaline ran high in anticipation of what would happen!
A great London gangland thriller with a bit of friendship and romance thrown in for fun! Would definitely recommend!
On the cover is Anna, who is hiding from a man. One sentence is obvious: "You must fight for those you love".
Everything begins when Anna terrified by her gangster boyfriend flees his home in the middle of the night. She knows he will kill her someday. She starts from scratch and meets two strangers who will make her change her life. But do they tell him the truth about who they really are?
A captivating thriller, I hung right away, the character of Anna is very endearing. I recommend this book for those who have not read it yet.
Anna Davis has spent years terrified of her boyfriend. She runs away in the dead of night, she's frightened he will kill her. And she knows she will, if he ever finds her.
Tiny is a sadistic man who likes to use Anna as a punch bag. Tanya also has problems and when her path crosses with Anna's they form a close friendship and business partners. Anna meets Freddie who is a lovable rogue who will do anything to make Anna happy. But are they telling Anna who they really are.? Then Anna's past comes back to haunt her. This is a gripping, tense, page turning roller coaster,of a read. With many twists and turns to keep your attention. The characters are believable and the pace is set just right. The ending does feel a bit rushed but it does not disappoint.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author Emma Tallon for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book by Emma. A really good gritty storyline that had me gripped from the very first page hence I read it in a day. The characters were likeable and it was good to find out how they all came together at the end. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes this genre and I can’t wait to read the next instalment. If you are a fan of Martina Cole then you will love this!!
WoW.............What a Brilliant book Runaway Girl by Emma Tallon was. For Emma's first book I was just hooked from the first page, it was gritty, gripping and I was hooked. I found all the characters very likeable and each had a brilliant story line which made this book an easy read. The time just flew by before I knew it I was on the last chapter.
This is a book that I had no hesitation in giving 5 stars to and can thoroughly recommend it. Plus, If you are a fan of Martina Coles, Jessie Keane and Casey Kelleher this is a book for you
Looking forward to read more books by Emma Tallon. Excellent read.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoutre for the chance to read it for a bais review
Big 5 stars for this book.
Review on my Goodreads Blogg, Amazon UK and my FB page. A book that will be recoomended to my Family and Friends xxx
I received this book from #NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review. The book is described as mystery/thriller but I think romance should be added as a good portion of the story deals with the relationship between the main characters Anna and Freddie a crime boss in London. The runaway is Anna who after 3 years of abuse runs away from her keeper but only moves from one part of London to another which is the first event in this book that totally blows my mind. So the next big event is that she meets Freddie which has all the hallmarks of a cheesy romance novel. She falls in love with him and vice versa but neither admit to it which is followed by all kinds of misunderstandings but in the end as is the truth of all romance novels. I don’t like romances whatsoever so I will not be recommending this book. I give it one star.
Runaway Girl by Emma Tallon is an excellent crime thriller and if you enjoy this genre i am sure you will enjoy this book.Anna escapes her sadistic husband Tony after years of abuse and meets Tanya who herself is hiding secrets from her past, they become firm friends and set up a club together which becomes an instant success,Anna also meets Freddie who she becomes attracted to,but is Freddie the perfect boyfriend Anna thinks he is or is he hiding is own secrets ? This is a great read which skipped along at a great pace and although the ending was a bit predictable i look forward to reading more about Freddie and Anna,a great 5 star read.
Well done Emma Tallon on a brilliant gripping first book, this book had me engrossed from the first page, to Anna escaping all the way through to her paranoia (and rightly so), finding herself, Tanya, Freddie, loved it and can't wait for the second instalment, I'd love to know how Anna & Freddie are doing.
Thank you to Bookouture and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to preview this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I can finally breath again after holding my breath throughout this amazing and addictive read, I enjoyed every second of this book, it was an absolute roller coaster of a story, I will definitely be recommending this one. So excited to read the follow up when it comes out.
Anna escapes the clutches of her boyfriend tony who is a sadistic man who beats her to a pulp whenever he feels, Tanya is allso escaping her own demons when they bump straight into each other, they form a close and firm relationship. Freddie at the age of 18 was trying to better his family's way of life and allowed vince to mould him into his right hand man in the under world. Eleven years later Freddie is one of the biggest east end barons in his own right. Annas past comes back to bite her when tony closes in on her.
An enjoyable read, had me on my toes quiet a few times, beleavable characters but a bit predictable, really enjoyed it, will definitely be on the look out for her next novel.
I was looking forward to reading this, I had the original book, Life Game on my kindle, yet when I went to find it, it had disappeared into kindle heaven. But not to worry this is the re edited, revamped edition.
This was my Easter treat, sit down, start a new book and chill. Well sit and chill in between keeping a husband and an 8 year old occupied.
I had high hopes for this book, and was really looking forward to it. It wasn't long before I was engrossed in the pages.
Meeting Anna, she has escaped from an evil man of a boyfriend. Controlling and violent. She will forever be looking over her shoulder as she knows she will never truly be rid of him.
Tanya and Anna become friends after a chance meeting. Friends that hopefully can go on and help and trust each other.
This book has it all, it keeps you going, it keeps you wanting more. I did however at times feel it was a little tame, like it could have been vamped up a notch here and there. That said it was still a damn good read, and I will certainly be watching out for more from this author, I think Emma Tallon is going to be a name to watch out for.
Absolutely LOVED this book, I gave up reading this genre a couple of years ago as so many of the books were cliche and formulaic, I went in with very low hopes and was massively pleasantly surprised, I was hooked from beginning to end and couldn't wait to finish it. Really well written with only a couple of the things I expected to find. Looking forward to the next one!
Brilliant .brilliant brilliant - I can say no more. I loved this book from beginning to end and will be looking out for more. Thank you to Netgalley and Bookoutre for the chance to read it.
This book had me gripped from the first page. I could not put it down and read it within a day. The main character was so real and I worried about her on every page. Anyone who love Martina Cole, Kimberley chambers will love it.
