While I liked the idea of the story, it all felt very rushed. I liked Jamie and Rachel together, their chemistry was instant, but at the same time it felt very forced at stages and very predictable. The writing style held my attention well enough but I felt there were huge chunks of empty spaces. A quick read for me, and ideal for an afternoon on the sofa.

Suddenly freezing weather had me reaching for a summer book to warm me up and A Hot Montana Summer has done the trick nicely. Set in Glacier Creek Montana, this is the first book in Karen Foley’s Glacier Creek series and features injured Marine Jamie Coulter and newly divorced Rachel McAffertey. These two have known each other all their lives, and while Rachel is seven years older than him, Jamie has been in love with her most of that time.
This is a story of healing for both Jamie and Rachel but it also has plenty of sexy sizzle as the feelings grow between these two. Fast paced, the story kept me hooked until the last page though I did feel as though things were tied up a little too neatly and a little too quickly at then end. Nonetheless, a good read and I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

Jamie was Rachel's brother's best friend growing up. Rachel is a bit older. As a kid he told her he was going to marry her. Fast forward to today-Jamie is a marine recovering at his parent's house with a messed up leg. Rachel has returned to her parent's house a divorced woman. When she sees Jamie for the first time she is shocked. The scrawny teen has been replaced by a hot marine. The age difference is still a problem for Rachel. Her husband was younger than her and he lost interest in her once he married her. She has sworn off younger men. Jamie had to try and convince her to give him a chance. The attraction is mutual but Rachel holds back. You can't help but love Jamie. Between the fact that he served his country and that he feels that Rachel has always been the one, what is there not to like. Sweet story about a one sided second chance and opening your heart to possibilities you never expected. Sometimes age really is just a number. Great read.

I'm gonna have to agree with a few other reviewers - the prologue to this one is just about the cutest every.  It beats out a meet cute by far!

I'm a big fan of the friends to lovers, although this one is a bit of a stretch.  While Rachel & Jamie knew each other they weren't really close - the age difference was a bit too much.  It's still a good read, though, as they reconnect as adults and discover a very mature attraction.

Some might get a little tired of Rachel's issues with the age difference between the two.  I get that it is probably a difficult thing to let go of, especially when you watched him grow up, but it is pretty hard to deny that Jamie is all man now :)  And there is that one scene (you gotta have at least one) where you just want to smack Rachel for doing something stupid.  But she did just end a pretty toxic relationship so she's not quite got her mojo back.  It's a lot to take on all at once.

I will admit that Jamie drove this book for me.  Rachel's treatment of him was OK at best and awful at its worst (see above) but he was willing to wait it out and hope for good things to come - not sure why, but you gotta admire his stick-to-it-ness.

It was an enjoyable read as long as you don't mind the push/pull from Rachel and a decent amount of angst throughout.  I think that the book would have benefited from more positive interactions between the two, just to emphasize his attraction to her, but overall definitely worth the time.

First off, what’s with the lack of a cover picture for this book on Goodreads??? Even the sequel, which has come out already (I’m WAY behind in my ARC reading), has a cover...

Anyway, I think I’m going to title this review “A Hot Montana Mess”... This book started out really great. The heroine is so kind and considerate to a much younger hero (she’s 20 and he’s almost 14), and I loved how she handled an awkward situation. I thought “oh, this is going to be a great book!”

But then we move to present day, and the story is just one big running inner monologue by the heroine about how good looking the hero is and how how hot his body is. Also, that she is much too old for him (FYI...she’s now 32 and he’s 26).

Our hero, when he and the heroine have a morning-after conversation and the heroine tells him it was a mistake, instead of being honest with his feelings, tells her he’s just up for a quick fling - thinking if he tells her the truth she’ll run away. I’m expecting a man who is unapologetic and honest about how he feels for Rachel - as he was when he was 14 - and what I got was one who lied to her repeatedly. And really, it was hard to understand why he felt so strongly for her after not seeing her for seven or eight years. I know young love/infatuation is strong, but it was difficult to feel anything between them other than sexual tension.

And the heroine? She was like a toddler, only deciding she loved him when she witnessed him hug another woman. Ugh. Just not much to like about either character…

This story could have been so good. The age difference, which was the backbone of their conflict, could have been explored more. They only touched on whether or not the hero was ready to settle down and have a family, as the heroine was. The heroine had previously been married to a man who constantly traveled around the world without her, causing some abandonment issues. That, to me, could have been a much more compelling conflict - if they stayed together and the hero went back to active duty, could their relationship endure being apart when her first marriage couldn’t?

There were several directions this story could have gone, but didn’t. Instead we had to read too much about pecs and not enough about plot. This is the start to a series, but I’m going to be skipping the rest of them for a couple reasons: first, I didn’t like this book, and second, this story sets up the next book about the heroine’s brother and his neighbor who has apparently been pining after him - but there is a chapter at the end of A Hot Montana Summer for the next book, and they have him meeting a random woman and being interested in her. WHAT THE HECK?!?! Unless the author plans to find someone else for the lovelorn neighbor, I’m gonna be hacked off! Although, I probably wouldn’t read that book either, so I don’t even know why I’m angry on behalf of a character I don’t even particularly care about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jamie and Rachel's story. Good story for the most part, but her harping on the age thing got tiresome after awile. Still enjoyed it though, and would highly recommend this book and series.

A Hot Montana Summer (Glacier Creek Book 1) by Karen Foley. This is Jamie Colter and Rachel McCafferty’s story.

Jamie was Rachel brother’s best friend. He has always had a crush on Rachel. Their paths cross when Jamie is home recuperating from a combat injury and Rachel has come home after her divorce. Jamie is still extremely attracted to Rachel and wants her to give them a chance at true love. Rachel is definitely drawn to Jamie but struggles with age difference. Will Rachel take a chance on love?

Jamie’s character was great! I love when a May-December story has the woman as the older one. Now, I enjoyed Rachel’s character too but at times Jamie acted older than her. In Rachel’s defense she lost confidence in herself from the way her ex husband had treated her when they were married. I read this story from beginning to end in one sitting.

FYI, contains mature content. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

I enjoyed reading A Hot Montana Summer by Karen Foley, book one in Glacier Creek series. Glacier Creek is a small town in Montana where Jamie Colter grew up across the street from his best friend Dylan McCafferty and his older sister Rachel. Despite being six years younger, Jamie has always had a crush on Rachel. Now, a combat-hardened Marine Jamie is home recuperating from a mortar attack that left him with a busted leg and a bad case of cabin fever. Rachel returns home to nurse her wounds and make a fresh start after her divorce from her rich, jet-setting, never home younger husband. After seeing Jamie’s good lucks and bold confidence Rachel is shocked that he is no longer the scrawny boy she remembered. Jamie has never forgotten Rachel and tells her he is hers for the taking.

I struggled with Rachel and her attitude toward Jamie. She was attracted to him yet kept harping on their age difference. I realize that the “boy” she married was younger, wealthy, only thought of himself and abandoned her to party around the world, but Jamie was not her ex. In fact, Jamie worked hard to get Rachel to see him as the only man who is perfect for her. As these two spent time together sometimes it felt like Jamie was the older one, not Rachel.

I really did enjoy reading this book as Ms. Foley wrote a wonderful story in which I connected with the characters. I recommend this book to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Such a fun story. I loved the fact that she was the older sister of his best friend. The dynamics were great! The characters were well written and fun to read. I love a great HEA and this was a fun one to read.
Well written. A great start of a good series and I look forward to reading more from this author!!

A nice story about two people coming together. First Jamie grew up living across the street from Rachel and is also her brother’s best friend. She is older than him by six years and this theme comes out throughout the story. Now she is in her thirty’s and home as her divorce is finalized, her mother talks her into helping Jamie who has come home from the Marines after his unit came under attack. Injured and not being able to get around like he would like she agrees to help so her parents and his will go away on their annual cruise. When seeing him it is not his injuries that set her back a breath but his body size and over all appearance is nothing like she remembers. The Marines has definitely changed his body into a man, and is nothing like her former husband. Jamie is attracted to her more now than he was years earlier now he only needs to show her that he can be right for her. The problem for her is that her former husband was younger than her, and though that really was not the problem that is what she focuses on with Jamie when they start to get hot and heavy. Later when he hears her talking to her mother and comparing him to her ex he has had enough and leaves. Her problem is that when she goes to his house to apologize he gone, gone. She has no idea where he went and she begins to realize that she had something special. Now she needs to find him and tell him if he will listen to her. The last part of the book has a lot going on for all of the characters, including her brother and his neighbor which he is clueless over. Along with Jamie and Rachel. A good story with good characters. Very much worth the read.

This is the first book in the Glacier Creek series. Jamie is a wounded warrior returned home to heal physically and emotionally. Rachel returns to recover from the end of her marriage. Both characters have baggage to overcome before they can find love again. This is a quick, sweet read.

I received an arc from Netgalley. I always enjoy a friends to lovers romance and this book was definitely that. Although Rachel and Jamie have an age difference to contend with and get over, Rachel eventually comes around and realizes you can’t fight Love while dwelling on the little details.

This was a great read and to be honest I can’t wait to read Dylan and Laurels story. 4.5 stars

What a terrific book. I gave them t 5 Stars. There was the return to home, steamy romance and a little second chance romance feel. We meet Rachel and Jamie. Jamie is 7years younger, the best friend of Rachel’s brother and next door neighbor. Rachel returns home after an unpleasant divorce to her Uber rich ex husband. Jamie returns home after a bad attack in his military life that left his leg shattered, bad nightmares and an uncertain return to his former career. Jamie has always wanted Rachel but she is 7 years older and found it a stumbling block. Jamie and Rachel’s parents are scheduled for a 2 week Hawaiian cruise and hire Rachel in her former job as a personal concierge to care for Jamie. The 2 become lovers and Rachel struggles to hide it. This book had a lot of wonderful steamy romance and angst. I got this from Net Gallery in exchange for an honest review. I highly recommend it. I love the Montana romances and this didn’t disappoint.

When Jamie was just a boy he told the Hot teenage Rachel she would marry him some day. Now he is a man and a Marine at that, and even with his leg injured and on crutches he’s so good looking Rachel can’t keep her eyes off him.
So their chemistry is off the charts, everything between them is so spicy and smoldering, but the age difference keeps eating at Rachel, can she get past this so their new love will have a chance, or will she throw away the love of her life???
I recommend this to adult romance readers.
And thank you NetGalley for my copy.

Loved this book. Read in one sitting. As teenagers, Jamie professed his love to Rachel, saying "You're going to marry me someday." Fast forward and Jamie has returned home from the Marines with an injured leg and Rachel has returned home after a recent divorce. Their parents are all going on trip and hires Rachel to help with Jamie, the neighborly thing to do.They can't deny the chemistry between them but Rachel also can't deny that she is older then Jamie. Noe for Jamie to convince Rachel that age does not matter.

I so loved these characters. Loved how Jamie did not give up Rachel. Great sexual chemistry between them. After reading this book I so want to visit Glacier Park, on my bucket list. I'm looking forward to reading, Dylan's story. I highly recommend this book!!

Alright, I’ve scratched my original review and am starting over because, frankly, that turned into a rant that wasn’t fair. So, instead I’ll be brief and to the point. While I liked A Hot Montana Summer, liked Jamie and Rachel individually (for the most part), there was one factor that prevented me, personally, from falling into this story and loving it. The constant mentioning of the age difference between Jamie and Rachel. I understand that it was Rachel’s voice driving it, that her insecurity was taking over – I do get that. Yet, the sledgehammer of it overtook the romance and I simply stopped caring about whether Jamie and Rachel ever got their happy ending.

For me this is a 3.5 star review which I’ll round up where necessary. After reading A Hummingbird Christmas (which, by the way, what happened to that first story? If this is the first then that had to be a prequel)), I was looking forward to learning more of Glacier Creek’s residents. And I’ll read the next story to see what happens next. I think the point got driven home too hard, and I stopped caring along the way. I am sorry that I ended up feeling this way about a good story, but eventually the constant reminder of age simply got too old.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

This was a very enjoyable read with some fun and interesting characters as well as a fun storyline.

Jamie Colter is a Marine home on medical leave. His bum leg makes it difficult for him to get around so when his parents go out of town they recruit a neighbor to give him a hand. Rachel McCafferty is temporarily living with her parents after going through a difficult divorce. Jamie the kid always had a huge crush on the older Rachel. Jamie the man knows that what he feels for Rachel is far more than a crush. Convincing Rachel to put aside her misgivings over her recent divorce and their age difference becomes Jamie's number one goal when she agrees to help him out.

Definitely a book I recommend to everyone.

The first book in the Glacier Creek series, A Hot Montana Summer by Karen Foley. This book grabbed me from the first page with it's likable characters, captivating storyline and dialogue. First line, "You're going to marry me someday." I look forward to see what the next book brings us.

This is an appealing story of determination fraught with the twists and turns that make up love. All that keeps Rachel McCafferty from seriously considering the chemistry between her and Jamie Coulter is the difference in age between them. Jamie doesn’t see it as anything to be bothered by especially since he’s been attracted to her since his teens.
At a lucky moment in time, he sees his chance to win her over, age difference or not. Her reluctance wavers in the face of their chemistry and maybe, just maybe, she will relent.

A Hot Montana Summer by Karen Foley is the beginning of a new series. First up in this series is the older woman and younger man trope. It works pretty well for the most part in this story of Jamie and Rachel. Jamie is wonderful as the returning home wounded Marine. He has battle scars and a physical injury still healing but he is not crippled emotionally. I enjoyed seeing a charming, confidence man going after what he wants. Jamie Colter is the entire package; loyal, brave, appealing with just enough brashness.

Rachel was a harder sell for me. Her battle scars are worse than Jamie’s; only her is from a disastrous marriage. I understood her caution, maybe even her reluctance concerning her younger brother’s now grown up friend. What I didn’t understand was her sometimes especially in public treatment of Jamie along with her on again and off again behavior. I found myself thinking he ought to find someone proud of him not one who treated him like a shameful secret. Still it does have an HEA which is expected. Jamie is 5 stars all the way, but Rachel brings it down to 4 Stars.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
