Cute and funny story to read to your kids about squirrels. We learned something new and had a great time. Attractive drawings and talk of tacos.
Who doesn’t love a squirrel whose obsessed with tacos? A zany and fun read with illustrations to match! Kids will absolutely adore their antics!
A cute and funny little book teaching children about squirrels. This squirrel in particular is obsessed with tacos.
This book is absolutely hilarious. I love the message about making things happen for yourself.
Taco was an adorable, funny character. I enjoyed the documentary style elements, mixed with Taco's reactions to the facts about squirrels.
The pictures were also very bright and jumped off the page. Taco's ability to break the fourth wall made for an immersive experience.
Highly recommend this book to anyone, young or old. Anyone who enjoys a good laugh.
Okay, this was adorable! It's a very short book, but any kid (or taco-loving adult) would love this. It's funny and silly and charming. The art is fantastic, very colorful, and super cute.
Very cute, interactive book. Fun illustrations and engaging for young readers (or listeners). The squirrel has spunk which is sure to make little ones laugh every time.
Adorable and laugh-out-loud hilarious, the illustrated tale about a squirrel named Taco combines education and entertainment in an easy reading format perfect for children, and adults, too!
The author cleverly combines interesting facts about squirrels along with pop-up commentary from Taco as he valiantly demonstrates all the wonderful qualities of the said furry creature.
The tongue-in-cheek tone appealed to me as did the cartoon-ish illustrations. Taco's expressions and body language evoked immediate laughter, and I liked the imaginative creative touch the author imbued by suggesting that Taco could re-write his own story.
In the end, I did have to wonder, though, whether squirrels really do eat tacos or if just Taco loved tacos.
Thanks to #NetGalley for the ARC of #ThisisaTaco! I'm only sad that the book didn't download properly and it took me a while to get a hard copy from my local library so I could complete this review!
This is the hilarious tale of Taco the Squirrel who, through trial and error, learns to manipulate the book to get what it wants.
Highly confusing - was expecting a taco, however, this ended up being a book, and definitely not a taco. Still, highly amusing.
It was a cute book about a squirrel. I know the kiddos will find it hilarious. I would not use it as part of a curriculum, but as a just for fun read aloud and to use in book boxes for independent reading time.
A fun book for kids. We have an adorable squirrel who volunteers to teach kids about squirrels in hopes of getting tacos. He goes along with the teachers for awhile but uses his intellegence to change the story to his own happy ending. Adorable art! Adorable story! Definitely a good choice for a gift for your favorite kindergartener.
Funny book! Enjoyable and fun. Would use certain pages to enhance curriculum or use for comic-style writing.
Love reading this silly book with my neice. she enjoyed it and it was a fun read. great pictures, lessons, etc. very well written
This was an adorable book. I read it to my grand baby and she loves it. Taco was too cute, but seemed selfish. The illustrations were very good and went well with the story.
What does a squirrel have to do to have tacos in its story? Write it!!! This book is so funny! Loved it!
The original narrator of the story starts to present this book as one about common, simple facts about squirrels: "This is a squirrel...Squirrels are some of the cleanest rodents in the wild. They are known for having silky, soft fur...Squirrels love to eat nuts, acorns and tree bark".
But Taco, the squirrel in this story keeps interrupting. And everything goes down when food is mentioned: "Tree barks? I was told there'd be tacos." That's the reason he accepted to be in this book!!!
Taco isn't an ordinary squirrel and he doesn't like the direction the story is taking. He won't accept that. He refuses the writer to dictate the rules for him. He will fight for what he wants. How? By taking a red pen and editing the text as it is written, making it right for him and what he is as an individual. After all, this book is about him.
This squirrel is confident and daring. He knows what he requires and demands it! He has no reservations in correcting the writer's text to achieve it. Nobody messes with Taco!
The illustrations are cartoonish and funny. The narrator's text is serious and informative, occurring in turns with Taco's vivacious and expressive speech, full of fuss, exclamations, and shouts.
Is it all just about laughs? I don't think so.
Is there a message? Yes! Don't do what others expect you to do, just because it's what all others usually do, what is expected of you, what is considered normal. Dare to be different! Write your own story, make your choices even if they are unexpected. Even if they make you different from the rest. Fight for it!
This book reminds me of a quote I like, by Holly Dean: "Don’t ever let anyone build your world for you. They always build it too small".
I really recommend this book. Children of all ages (even mine, as a mother of three) can really laugh with Taco! A lot!
This is a book about <s>squirrels</s> tacos. This children's book was a blast. I loved the self-reverential nature of Taco. While we learn facts about squirrels, Taco is quickly getting upset about these facts. It reminded me some of one of my all time favorite children's books, "The Monster at the End of This Book" where Grover is trying to stop you from turning each page.
My children enjoyed reading this book with me, and enjoyed looking at the pictures and pointing things out. What's not to like? Who doesn't like squirrels?
Adorable and hilarious! I loved the illustrations and the story was really enjoyable. A squirrel that loves tacos sounds really weird but I loved it, the format of the book was also unusual but worked well for the book.
Rating 4 stars!
A very funny book about a squirrel who loves tacos, with factual information sprinkled into the story. Good to use in story times, or great for one on one sharing. Recommended.
This Is a Taco is a picturebook written by Andrew Congelose and illustrated by Josh Shipley. This is a squirrel, one named Taco that does not eat nuts and tree bark—blech—he prefers tacos! This twist on a children's nature primer teaches kids that the most important story is the one you write yourself.
This Is a Taco is an informative but fun look at the squirrel. What they eat, how they move, and who eats them. Our narrator, Taco, is not too thrilled with the information about flying squirrels (because he isn't one) and hawks. So, he does his best to strike hawks from his story and to get himself some more of his favorite food- tacos. Things do not go quite as planned, but he still gets himself a special, happy ending.I loved the illustrations and the breaking of the third wall as the squirrel entertains and teaches readers of all ages.the colors and hints of fun in each of the pages made the read great fun. Much like Taco, I prefer tacos to bark and nuts, and do not think I would like the idea of being snatched up by a hawk. I think the book could offer readers of all ages a bit of knowledge, a few laughs, and a touch of empathy.
