I love picture books where the character in the story interacts with the book, and Taco the squirrel is a standout among these! The humor (and sass) work on both a child and adult level so that readers of all ages can enjoy this story. I also appreciated the positive message of pursuing your dreams i.e. "If you want tacos in your story, then YOU make sure there are tacos in your story." Highly recommended!

I received a digital ARC from the publisher via NetGalley.

Funny, adorable and a super cute story line! My children loved it and I'll be sure to look for this author in the future!

This is such a cute little book! Taco (the squirrel) is adorable and funny as heck, the book even dealt with stereotyping someone just because of common traits. Taco takes over the story and makes it his own, though, which was unexpected and hilarious.

This book is so funny, and also really informative!
It dealt with stereotypes and I felt like it had a really good message, but it was subtle enough that it worked really well.

Very cute! I actually laughed out loud a couple of times and learned something new about squirrels -- the fact that their ankles can rotate (ouch!) in any direction. I would like to use this to teach "tone" and "humor" to my students -- it would be a perfect fit!

So funny! Maybe I just have a special place in my heart for books about squirrels, but this cracked me up.

I am an elementary school art teacher and I read to my students all the time. They adore non-fiction books as well as fiction. This is the best of both worlds. It has great facts for the kiddos to learn about squirrels and amazingly fun illustrations to keep them engaged. Taco is cute and funny and I think kids will really enjoy this book. I know I did.

This book was a lot of fun to read and even taught me stuff about squirrels that I as an adult reader did not know before.. The illustrations were very beautiful and the lesson behind the story was good. I might have gone with a more healthy food choice as this book is aimed at kids and therefore would not buy it for my niece since she would want nothing other than tacos. But if you have a kid who enjoys healthy food and will not be tempted by fast food I would definitely recommend this book.

It has funny illustrations, an interactive narrator set-up (very trendy right now), and a cute message about how you can make changes that suit yourself best!

I think kids will enjoy this one and have a giggle. Cute! (and who doesn't love a nod to tacos?).

This book is a picture book masquerading as a book about squirrels; however, Taco, the adorable squirrel that is providing the object lesson about squirrels doesn't like the direction the book is going. He takes out his trusty red pencil and makes some alterations to improve the book. This book provides humor, as well as showing the value of punctuation and clarity in writing.

This is cute! Who doesn't like tacos?! Or squirrels! My kindergarten and 1st graders will love this silly book.

A cute, fourth-wall breaking comic about a squirrel who loves tacos and NOT the way the story was going! Some kids may not find it as funny, but I think enough will, and it is a short enough read to make it worth picking up.

This is super cute. Thanks Edelweiss+ for a preview of this book! OMG! Taco is super cute, but I think this book ended too abruptly. You only get a few pages of Taco taking over the book before it ends. With the message of writing your own story, it should have been longer so the reader could learn more about Taco.

Cute and funny, with a message of "write your own story." Would categorize as an easy picture book, not a graphic novel.

In "This is a Taco!" written by Andrew Cangelose and illustrated by Josh Shipley, we are introduced to an unusual squirrel named Taco. The books say squirrels like to eat nuts, acorns, and tree bark. Taco the squirrel says he loves eating tacos (that's why he got his name!). He's an original that marches to the beat of his own drum.

This is a children's book that is hard to define or categorize. Is it a fun story about a squirrel who loves tacos? Is it an educational story about squirrels? In actuality it is a cross of both. Taco, the main character is very cute and the story is one that I think kids would greatly enjoy. Plus the main character knows what he likes and who he is and doesn't conform to the expectations the world has set for him. This is a book I would gladly read to my children.

Sadly, Sophie’s son is rapidly growing out of the age for picture books. It’s a shame because there are some amazing titles coming out at the moment, but luckily, she can still convince him to read the occasional one for the time being. When she spotted This Is a Taco! by Andrew Cangelose, she knew it was one they simply had to read together.

This Is a Taco! is, perhaps confusingly, a book about a squirrel. A squirrel named Taco whose favorite food also happens to be… tacos. It is a send-up of traditional children’s nature primers, introducing kids to squirrels, where and how they live, and their preferred diet. Taco has very different opinions about how his book should be progressing and the facts it should be imparting to its readers, and when we reach the pages about predators who hunt squirrels, he takes the narrative into his own paws. Literally, with a big red crayon.

This book had Sophie’s eight-year-old rolling on the floor in hysterics, and he has taken to loudly announcing, ” the taco is the natural predator of tacos!” at random moments, much to the confusion of anyone who hasn’t read the book. Sophie also found herself laughing out loud at This Is a Taco! and she very much appreciated the moral of the story—that you are in charge of your own story and can change it however you want if you choose to.

If Sophie and her son are anything to go by, parents and kids will love reading this together.

Absolutely adorable! Loved this book. The illustrations were darling. Such a cute book to show kids that they can let their imaginations run free.

This was a fun book to read with my son. He enjoyed the story, but didn't want to sit through the whole book.

This is the most hilarious picture book I have ever read. I loved how Taco hijacked the book and made it about tacos. Super inventive.
