Who doesn't love a good taco, right?? Well, this is squirrel and squirrel is definitely not your normal squirrel. His name is Taco because that is his favorite food. In this informational book about squirrels you will learn about squirrels fur (Taco gets his done by a professional), what they eat (Taco definitely doesn't eat tree bark), how they stuff their mouths to get food back to their nests (but not tacos), how they are great climbers and some can fly (once again, definitely not squirrel), and that the hawk is their natural predator (this is where Taco draws the line!!). Is Taco going to stay in this book without tacos or will he rewrite his own story? Read this hilarious, laugh-out-loud picture book that will have you rolling on the floor crying with laughter. Don't miss this one!!
This is a Taco! is an adorable book! It's about a squirrel named Taco who loves, you guessed it, tacos. He's the main character in this story, which starts off with fun facts about squirrels. However, Taco keeps trying to tell the reader that he isn't like other squirrels. He doesn't want to eat tree bark, he wants to eat tacos. The story starts to take a dark turn, when a hawk starts circling, looking for prey. This is when Taco takes the story into their own hands. Taco grabs a red crayon, crosses out words, and rewrites the story. By doing this, readers see not only how important grammar is, but how important it is to take matters into your own hands in order to achieve your dreams.
This is a Taco! has a great hidden message: take the reins on your own story and make it whatever you want it to be!
This book is great for adults and children alike. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an electronic copy of this wonderful book.

It has a squirrel eating a taco! Squirrels don't eat tacos!
Do you want me to read it again?
Yeah!!!
This book literally had me cracking up. I was laughing so hard. Squirrels and tacos happen to be two of my favorite things and I feel like I really relate to how much this squirrel loves his tacos.
In this book regular squirrel things happen, he eats bark and gets chased by a hawk. But he realizes he can cross out the words on the page and add in the word tacos. So of course he does, because who doesn't love tacos.
This book has adorable and brightly colored illustrations. It's funny and great for even slightly older kids I think.
We received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is too cute. Taco is a squirrel, he understands that he controls his own story and to ignore the haters who think squirrels should only eat nuts and not tacos. Don't be fooled into thinking this book is only for kids - everyone should have the chance to fall in love with Taco the squirrel!
The pictures are adorable and the story quirky and fun – the lesson this book teaches is that it’s ok to be silly and to be true to yourself.
**Thank you NetGalley for this copy.**
This was a tickle! My son, Ivan, said yeah and he read it. His only complaint was that the digital edition was lagging. That has nothing to do with the book, but my tablet.
It's a funny story built around a few squirrel facts. The squirrels name is Taco because he loves Tacos. When the author talks about hawks, Taco steps in and takes control of his story. This is a little one picture book, and your kids will just love it!
There’s a squirrel named Taco. The narrator tries to teach you about squirrels, but Taco keeps interrupting, breaking the fourth and fifth wall in the process.
Yes, you run into trouble when you name animals by their favorite foods. Might work once, but not twice. By this logic, the hawk’s name should be Squirrel.
Most of the humor here revolves on either Taco not having a good contract lawyer, or the author/producers of the book ignoring the contract completely. It’s not that funny, but kids will probably find it hilarious and/or confusing. Possibly both.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5
This was a cute book, light-hearted and fun. I think that young readers will enjoy not only learning about squirrels, but will find the silly scenario of a taco-eating squirrel to be quite amusing. As a life-long learner myself, I'm always fond of a book that encourages children to learn about something new in the process, so despite our title character's insistence on eating tacos, there is still a good bit of legitimate information to learn about these common critters.
This is a sweet book that will appeal to young readers. The authors cleverly intertwine facts about squirrels while, at the same time, portraying the cartoon squirrel as a taco lover. The humor will entertain while the facts educate.
Thank you for the chance to preview This is a Taco, cute premise, loved that it gave some real info about the squirrels as well as giving him a red pen to be able to edit the story. You can always change your story is a good lesson for any age.
What a fun, informative book for young kids! The book starts with a squirrel named Taco. It gives some little known facts about squirrels and then Taco takes over his own story. Both informative and fun, this will have the adults laughing as well as the kids. Can't wait to read this one out loud to my three year old.
Ho funny! This story made me laugh. My kids would love this book. You learn some facts about squirrels with a large side of humor.
This is a book that both parents and children will love.

If you have trouble getting your kids to eat tacos, then this book is for you.
The book breaks the 4th wall on every page ( which could be guessed from the cover), which didn’t make it feel like a story at all. Plus the facts are wrong. Squirrels are not clean. They carry pestilence and salmonella. Apart from nuts and tree bark they also eat nestlings and eggs.
I didn’t find this book useful, the humor in it funny or the pictures unique. The jokes were plain and stupid. I wouldn’t want it for my own kid.
This book is wonderful for beginning writers and even those who haven't started yet, but will be soon. Besides some interesting facts, it shows children how to keep their focus on the topic they wish to write about. When a hawk sneaks into the narrative and doesn't belong in the story, Taco the squirrel changes the wording, getting the story back on track again. That's a great lesson for anyone who finds themselves sidetracked and throwing too many subjects into a story.
Children who don't write yet, will be entranced by the funny story and have a chance to learn facts about squirrels which live all over.
Taco the squirrel how can you not love it! Such a cute book that my boys thought was hilarious. They can't stop talking about Taco.
I found a copy of this book and fell in love with it! This was a hoot! I am sure children, especially the taco lovers, will enjoy this story of a squirrel who agrees to work for food in this book. The book has him eating acorns, berries, bark, but no tacos!!! And he LOVES tacos! His name is Taco and he's just an ordinary squirrel, kind of... He hates heights (lives in a bush), can't fly (not a suger glider like his cousin), doesn't care for acorns, etc...squirrel food. He's also afraid of hawks as he is their food. But! He discovers if he changes a few words in the story, extraordinary things happen! He may just get those tacos yet! Fun story! Kiddos will love Taco!
My four year old loves this book. This is a cute picture book featuring a squirrel named Taco who agreed to be in the book if he can have some tacos. Unfortunately, this book is more about facts related to squirrels and how they live in the wild. This is a clever book where Taco the Squirrel breaks the fourth wall with commentary about the written words from the book. Taco's solution for getting tacos at the end of the book made my son crack up. The illustrations are great, especially the puffy squirrel but the watercolor backgrounds are fantastic. A fun picture book.
What a goofy, fun story about two timely topics - squirrels and tacos, of course! This will be wildly popular with the kindergarten and 1st grade crowd, who will collapse into giggles every time this witty squirrel makes one of his remarks. Lots of similarities to Scaredy Squirrel will lead to an awesome compare-and-contrast discussion as well.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This Is a Taco! by Andrew Cangelose starts out as an educational look at squirrels, with demonstrations of squirrel behaviors by our star, Taco (so-named because that’s his favorite food). But just a few pages in, Taco disagrees with the narrator’s version of facts and decides to set things straight.
Josh Shipley’s illustrations are bright and funny, and feisty Taco will have kids giggling as he discovers the impact of changing the text. Short and sweet, this would make a great bedtime story for ages 4-8.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a free electronic ARC of this book, received in exchange for an honest review.
So adorable and funny, I could see this story easily making its way into young classrooms and bedtime routines everywhere and causing barrels of laughter. It’s a great message, even though he’s a squirrel he’s unique and proud to not be your average squirrel. The illustrations are perfect, Taco snatched up a spot in my heart and not just the food variety.
Liebevoll gezeichnet und sehr lustig umgesetzte Geschichte rund um die kleinen Klettertiere. Das Eichhörnchen, dass eigentlich nicht ins Buch wollte und nur Tacos im Kopf hat. Herrlich!
Ich habe das Buch über NetGalley erhalten. Lesen und bewerten erfolgte vollkommen freiwillig.
