This was a funny little book about a squirrel called Taco who just wanted a friggin taco.

Lol. I loved the clever little things it did to avoid certain doom and loved that it got his heart's desires in the end.

It also had great graphics and I really enjoyed it.

A silly picture book about a taco-loving squirrel - perfect for kindergarten story time. And while not every book needs to also work into a lesson, this one does. Students can research squirrels and verify the facts presented in the first part of the book. Highly recommended for Ps-Gr. 2.

LOVE this book! A squirrel who ultimately didn't like the direction his story was going and changed it. I love the message! You can’t go wrong with a book about a squirrel named Taco who loves to eat tacos.

I love squirrels and am known to follow squirrels to take a picture of them. My love for squirrels is why I had to pick up this book. This is a witty story about a squirrel named Taco who is not the average squirrel and loves to eat taco's. It's a very informative about squirrels (what they eat, what there habits are and such) until Taco the squirrel takes over the story from the narrator. Which I thought was very cute. If you love animals and want something funny to read with a kid, than this is a great book for you. I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Taco is a squirrel who loves to eat Tacos. This book teaches facts about squirrels in a fun/funny way. I might use this book for a story time with a squirrel or fall theme or recommend it to a parent or child looking for a funny picture book.

Cute story meant to educate children about squirrels with a little help from one of their own named Taco. Ultimately, it is the story of a squirrel making his dreams come true.

This fun book is about a precocious squirrel who takes charge of the informational squirrel book to write his own story about Taco, the taco loving squirrel who refuses to be a predator of hawks, but instead becomes his own predator of yummy tacos. When things go awry on his plan, he just takes his favorite red crayon and edits again.

This is a great writing workshop mini lesson resource on the power of editing to show voice, character and humor, even for middle school kids.

Last words:

Kids, remember: if you want tacos in your story, then YOU make sure there are tacos in your story.

A mixed bag of nuts/tacos!
I really didn't enjoy this book as much as I had hoped. I am not sure to what age group I would want to read this. The illustrations are funny, but kind of stressful, making the facts about squirrels offered less and less relevant as the author tries to turn the book to "funny". It was tolerable until the very end, which left me truly wondering if my comprehension level has slipped to that below a 3 year old...
Some parts, I am sure, will be enjoyed by some children and parents, but as an overall, I don't recommend it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Taco is a squirrel who loves to eat tacos, and he agrees to be in this book to teach young children about squirrels, with the understanding that there will be tacos in the book! But Taco gets more than he bargained for when he is mistaken for a flying squirrel, forced to eat tree bark, and hunted by a ferocious hawk. Can Taco take back control of the narrative before it's too late?

I love books that break down the fourth wall, especially picture books. As Taco becomes increasingly anxious about the chaotic turn the story is taking, he does a beautiful job of addressing the reader directly and including the audience in the book narrative. The writing is quite clever, and similar to another favorite picture book, "The Monster at the End of this Book" !

The illustrations are so lovely! Colorful and funny, each page has a charm all its own. Taco is so cute!! He's cuddly and adorable, and I love his funny facial expressions.

I like that Taco is single-minded about wanting his tacos, and he takes charge of his own story to make sure he gets the happy ending he desires. He's a fun and likable character, with some slapstick jokes and general silliness.

'This is a Taco!' by Andrew Cangelose with art by Josh Shipley is a story about a squirrel. No, it's a story about a taco.

This book starts out normal, describing a squirrel, who states from the beginning that he likes tacos. When the book takes a turn toward the dark. At that point, the book changes, but I don't want to spoil it, except to say that there may be tacos involved.

I really liked this funny little book. The illustrations are great, and I think kids would get the giggles out of this funny story about a squirrel who likes tacos.

This very funny picture book stars a taco-obsessed squirrel named Taco. This will be tons of fun to read out loud and I can already hear the yelps from the audience when the hawk swoops down.

Super cute! Kids can relate to wanting tacos and this story with a squirrel who is nuts for them will strike a fun cord with children. Similiar to Harold and the Purple Crayon who created the scene he was in on each page, this format shows how Taco the squirrel can do the same by writing his own story to share. Really fun.

I review children's books with an eye toward buying gifts for the kids in my family. This book is one I'm going to buy. Taco the Squirrel stars in a book that teaches kids about squirrels. But Taco doesn't particularly want predators in his book, he wants tacos, so he rewrites the book to get what he wants. #ThisIsATaco! #NetGalley

This Is a Taco! by Andrew Cangelose and illustrator Josh Shipley is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I loved this kids book! It is so cute! The funny story about a squirrel trying to tell about squirrels but it gets all messed up. The illustrations are hilarious! Kids will love this! A definite winner!

This book was a fast read, but cute with lots of laugh. Humorous. Taco is the name of the squirrel, and he loves Tacos. Informative information about squirrels and illustrations were amazing. Definitely for elementary students.

I received and ARC from netgalley for an honest review.

Squirrel named Taco...because he likes to eat Tacos. This book was super cute and hilarious! I read it to my 3 year old niece and she could not stop laughing! It was educational too! I can not wait to purchase her a hard copy!

So, I got yet another children’s book from NetGalley and this book is called “This is a Taco!” by Andrew Cangelose along with artwork by Josh Shipley. I must say that this is seriously one of the FUNNIEST children’s books I had ever read for the modern era of children’s books!

Meet Taco! Taco is a squirrel who happens to love eating tacos and he only agreed to be in this book if he can have some tacos. Unfortunately for Taco, this book is not about tacos as it is a book that teaches the readers about the life of a squirrel and how they are able to survive in the wild.

Will Taco the Squirrel get his tacos?

Read this book to find out!

Wow! Just wow! I thought that I would never read another children’s book that contains so much humor and wit in this day and age, but lo and behold, I found such a book! Andrew Cangelose has done an excellent job at writing this book as this story is truly hilarious to read! I loved the way that Andrew Cangelose wrote Taco the Squirrel himself as he is such a hilarious character who just wanted to have tacos to eat but has to endure lots of mishaps in this book so that the reader would learn more about squirrels. I especially loved the way that Taco the Squirrel solved the problem of not getting tacos at the end of this book as it was a truly witty and humorous conclusion to the story! I also loved the fact that the tone of this book reminded me so much of the popular children’s book “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” as both books have sarcastic humor and characters who continually break the fourth wall and wanted the stories to go the way they see fit. Josh Shipley’s artwork is adorable and hilarious to look at, especially of the images of Taco the Squirrel himself as he is shown as being a puffy looking squirrel with a humorous smile on his face on each panel. I also loved the watercolors in the background as it gives the book a down to earth tone that compliments well with the mellowness of this book.

Overall, “This is a Taco!” is a truly hilarious book about squirrels and unconventional storytelling that children should definitely check out! I would recommend this book to children ages five and up since there is nothing inappropriate in this book.

This is a fun, silly book about squirrels, with one squirrel in particular, Taco, correcting the text to better suit himself. The illustrations are great and I think a lot of kids are going to really like this book.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
