I enjoyed reading this book, and it made me think a bit deeper about how I can be more mindful in my daily life, While I don't practice meditation often, I feel that these tips about being truly present and connecting with the present moment will stay with me.
Falling Awake Was originally published in 2005 as part of Coming to Our Senses, This new reformatted book is a exceptional sensible guide of meditating, of becoming aware and awakening ourselves to the benefits of meditating to better ourselves.
The author is the definitive source of mindfulness and meditation. In his extensive teachings he helped millions become more centered with sensible techniques that anyone can do. In this book he emphasizes how we just need to put forth the effort and turn to a simple mindful practice to fully experience meditation and mindfulness.
He suggest a practice called "drop and sit" to begin a practice anywhere. The author invites you to not depend on the right class, the right equipment, or time. To just begin your practice at home be willing to improve your peace of mind and connect with your soul and "drop and sit". This is the encouragement we all need to get started.
I found this outstanding in technique and very sensible. I will be referring to this book when I need a refreshment to return to my own practice of meditation and mindfulness.
Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for the ARC. My opinions are my own.
Kabat-Zinn is a master at his craft. This book is no exception. Even though these are excerpts from an even bigger book of his, I think these are the more accessible parts. I feel like reading his books are a practice in meditation as well - I always find myself absorbed and focused with his descriptions and personal stories, and feel calmer just by reading his words. Some beginners may find his writing a little slow in the beginning - but I think this is the more accessible Kabat-Zinn, so I would suggest beginners take a gander into this book before trying to dive into his bigger books. This book is perfect for the beginner reader who wants to see what meditation is all about, from the master of mindfulness himself!
This newly reformulated text was originally part of the author’s 2005 book, Coming to Our Senses. Still fresh and applicable, it offers helpful direction on how to meditate regularly despite constant distractions in the age of social media. The benefits? Greater compassion and well-being, both for ourselves and for the world in which we live. More than ever, we need this wisdom from the master of mindfulness, Jon Kabat-Zinn.
I received a complimentary copy from Hachette Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This is a wonderful book on meditation. Originally published as part of another book it is now being published in sections. I think this would be great for anyone interested in meditation and mindfulness.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a review copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
"Mindfulness doesn't involve doing anything, it is non-doing" Jon Kabat-Zinn, explains in his newest book Falling Awake, originally published in 2005 as part of Coming to Our Senses, just how to go about the easy practice of mindful thinking, of meditating, of becoming aware and awakening our senses in order to immerse ourselves in sound, sight, touch, smell and the air we share with all living creatures.
Those who practice mindful meditation need not purchase expensive equipment or sit with a guru on a mountaintop. All one needs to do, as Zinn states, is Stop n Drop. Just take time out of the business of the day to sit, lay down or simply while standing in line at the grocery store to drop into your experience of experiencing. Capture the moment and become aware.
The author then explains the numerous ways in which mindful meditation may be practiced. Through the chapter on Lovingkindness the reader begins to understand how important mindfulness is to our personal well being and our family but also how "we can expand the field of lovingkindness to include our neighbors and neighborhood, our community, our state, our country, the entire world.." "Being human, they are worthy of loving-kindness, and perhaps will respond to it by softening in ways your mind cannot possibly imagine." He goes on to offer mantras one can use while meditating to encompass human beings. Give them a mindful hug, so to speak.
This book would be especially helpful to those just getting started in the practices of mindfulness and meditation.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this thoughtful book.

Dr Jon Kabat-Zinn's book is wonderful. He is able to explain the complex theory of Mindfulness in a very simple way that any reader can understand. It is fantastic how Dr Kabat-Zinn includes anecdotes, poems and exercises to reinforce the theory.
As a huge Jon Kabat-Zinn fan, I was thrilled to receive an ARC of this book from Netgalley, the publisher, and the author. Falling Awake is a slightly revised edition of Kabat-Zinn's earlier work, Coming to our Senses. However, it's as relevant today as it was a decade ago--perhaps even more so with the advent of the age of distraction. Kabat-Zinn does a good job discussing how to be mindful in our always-on demanding society and in the age of social media.
No one does mindfulness as well as Kabat-Zinn and I'm delighted to add Falling Awake to my mindfulness collection.
Many thanks to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
I have been a fan of this author and his teaching style for years.
I still believe he is one of the best resources for anyone desiring to learn more about meditation.
As its popularity regains traction, I recommend going to a valued source such as this to learn to still your thoughts and gain control of your mind.
One of my first teachings on the beauty of mindfulness was Jon Kabat-Zinn's book, Wherever You Go, There You Are. He made the teachings understandable in that book, and this book is doubly so. It is full of practical suggestions and applications for bringing mindfulness into our lives in many ways. The benefits of living life in a mindful way are tremendous- physically, mentally, and emotionally. I highly recommend all books by this author.
I was able to read this book for free from NetGalley, and am grateful to the publisher and the author for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Falling Awake by Jon Kabat-Zinn offers helpful direction on how to meditate in today’s world where there are huge distractions and drama. He discusses the distractions of social media especially. The benefits of this apparently are a greater compassion and well-being. This is a best for our world as well as for ourselves. More than ever, this timely volume that has been re-worked from 15 years ago is important for the mental health of us as a nation.
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for a pre-publication ebook in exchange for an honest review.
