Brilliant read with all the things I enjoy in a book with a brilliant storyline and characters and I will look forward to reading more from you from this author thank you for my arc
Kathleen was pedaling the bike and decided if there was nothing after the hill she would give up- no campground, no town, no car, no other sign of life. Then Kathleen saw an inn. The next day Kathleen woke, sat up in bed confused and disoriented. Her money pack was safe on her stomach , her shoes were still on her feet. All she remembered was drinking a glass on water an falling onto the bed. Her bike bag was tucked in the back corner, a folded towel on top of it . There was a granola bar left on the towel on the towel and she ate it quickly. Then Kathleen knew she needed a shower. Then a woman with huge purple glasses smiled at her and then went downstairs. When Kathleen went downstairs the lady told Kathleen she had been dehydrated and it was common for people to pass out in front of her. The woman’s name was Charlotte Trainer. And her and her husband-Diremud- was the owner of the Tractor Inn. Then Kathleen said her father and stepmother would say that was another case of her being reckless. Then she added the whole point of her trip was for Kathleen to show them both she was responsible without their help. Kathleen didn’t have the energy to explain her reasons for escaping her family to play hobo. Kathleen said she had to be in San Francisco for a job in two weeks . After San Francisco there was Portland, Seattle, and all of Canada. She wasn’t giving up and going back to her dads and stepmother- Randi’s cushy house back in Chicago. Kathleen went to leave the next day and got into an accident and her bike had to be taken to a bike shop. Kathleen wrote her best friend Gabriel and told him about the accident and she was at the inn and staying there for free until she recovers then she had to work at the inn in Cambria all summer for the bike repairs with a little leftover Kathleen further wrote there was a Moonstone beach where people spent their days looking for moonstones to sell to jewelers.
I couldn’t get into this book. It just did not keep my interest in any way. I even went back to try to gain interest but this book just wasn’t for me. I am sure someone else will enjoy this book.
If ever there was a book to convince naysayers on the existence of fate, and the bigger picture in life, this book would certainly prove the point. Paul and Rosemary have been friends and sweethearts throughout their school years and are engaged to be married when a stranger comes to town and sends all three of them off on a trajectory that none of them could have ever imagined. This is a heartfelt and compelling story of love and loss that will take all three characters on a journey of personal growth that we can all learn lessons from. I read a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley and all opinions expressed through my voluntary review are completely my own.
Moonstone Heart is the story of a traveler named Kathleen who meets Paul in Cambria. She's riding along on her bike and he's the one to rescue her and take her to the hospital when she's run over while on her bike. She's been staying at his family's b&b and finds her stay extended after she's injured, and she and Paul find in each other a kindred soul. But, when his family informs her Paul's engaged and that Kathleen is ruining everything, what will she do? How will it affect her and Paul's burgeoning relationship?
I appreciate the sentiment of this story, I just don't like the execution. It unnecessarily rambled and went off in tangents, with years and years spanning between the beginning of the story and the end. I dislike the ending and how everything ended up playing out. I felt a bit cheated, actually. To be frank, I kind of wondered what the point of this story was. She met a man. She fell in love with the man. The man loved her too. He married someone else and loved her to pieces, but always wondered about Kathleen. Then they meet again years later and that's that. What was the point of it all? Not sure, that's why the 2 stars instead of 3 or 4.
What a beautiful love story! Moonstone Heart is not your typical HEA romance, but so much more. Paul, Kathleen, and Rosemary's stories demonstrate the power of love and how it can go on and on, despite obstacles. Strauss' writing was beautiful, descriptive, and full of emotion which completely drew me into this story. And I completely fell in love with the romantic notion in this novel about meeting up with your true love many years later, after loving others and doing other things with your life.
Moonstone Heart is a hauntingly beautiful story of love gained, love lost and enthralling anguish in between. And how it is within our own power to find, make, win or lose it. It engagingly pulls you along to the last page where it says "The End". But, is it really? I liked it! And Cambria seemed like a place I would love to visit, and stay for awhile. May try at least one of the recipes!
