Great romantic read with low drama. Fast paced novel with a great build world. Perfect read for an afternoon. Arc provided by Netgalley
If thrillers are your thing, be sure to pick this book up. It's suspenseful and pulls you in from page one. Abby and Jordan are entertaining characters. Get ready for a rollercoaster of a read with this one.
I have read this author’s book and it is either hit or miss with their writing. This was a hit!!!! I was absorbed with Abby and Jordan. But, the character that caught my heart was Nay. What an ending for this character. Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the ARC of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving this book in this manner had no bearing on this review.
I read this book a few weeks ago, and I already can't remember most of the plot. I do remember being confused at the beginning as I had not read the previous two books in the series, and then a whole lot of eye-rolling through the middle and the end because the kidnapping plot line was so over-the-top. I didn't really get the chemistry between Abby and Jordan, nor did I really care that much about what happened to them.
Having read Seducing Abby Rhodes, I was particularly interested in reading The Woman Trapped in the Dark. In her trademark style, Mason has woven a complex tale of love, betrayal, and deceit, with a little racism sprinkled throughout. I loved how she structured each chapter and masterfully told this new story. Where I failed to connect with the main character, Abby, centered on the common theme I see in several books: billionaire romance and a single (through completely independent and fierce) woman clearly out of his financial league. In spite of my inability to connect with her, I was drawn to Jordan's tenacity and drive, in spite of all that he had been through.
A thriller based on a unlikely couple in love in a new marriage when the woman is kidnapped . Her husband is rich but must race against time and threats to save her. against madmen. A fast paced moving thriller albeit a bit dark with the kidnapping being something I would not normally read. This is the third in the series but my first book by the author. I found it traumatic to read . This is a good read for anyone that likes a thriller with dangerous elements .
A ARC for review was sent by the publisher. My opinion is my own.
I have been waiting for this book since I read Seducing Abby Rhodes, and I was not disappointed. Jordan and Abby are finally together, and everything is great until Abby get's kidnapped. In order to get her back, Jordan must transfer some money and sign a contract on a project that can ruin his company and his life forever. He only has so many days to get it done before things change drastically for the worse.
I was shocked throughout the story. Every time I turned the page I read something I wasn't expecting. It was also good to see some familiar characters make an entrance. Although I hate that it's ending, I can't wait to read what's next from this author.
Thank you to Net Galley for an early copy of this book.
Jordan and Abby fell in love and are preparing to start their future together. But when Abby is taken captive to get to Jordan, will he be able to save her in time? The longer Abby is held captive the less hope she has of being rescued, will she find a way to escape on her own? This is a fast-paced read with plenty of drama and suspense. The story takes you on a roller coaster ride from beginning to end and really draws you into the drama. I liked it!
If you want a story that will keep you turning the pages and wondering how things can get any crazier than what's already happening, pick up The Woman Trapped In The Dark! J.D. Mason knows how to bring the crazy but still make the story cohesive and engaging. You don't need to have read the other books set in Blink, Texas to enjoy this one, but it would help with some context. Abby and Jordan are characters that you will root for and wish for their happily ever after. There are also antagonists in this story that you will want to throat punch for their despicable ways. I'm leaving it there to avoid revealing spoilers.
If you read this as a stand alone, you'll want to go back to get the background information because the other stories are really good too! I own all but one of Mason's backlist titles and I am planning on making my way through all of them!
Another excellent story out of Blink Texas!

The book is a thriller from the beginning and sustains the pace all the way through. I rooted for Abby and was invested in her character, hoping she survived the nightmare. It's a story of marriage and secrets and love, which in some cases can be deadly. A great read.
The Woman Trapped in the Dark is the latest installment in the Blink, Texas series by one of my favorite authors, the good sis, J. D. Mason.
First of all, if you have not read the Dirty, Beautiful, Rich series, what is wrong with you? No, really, if you haven't read those books, you're missing out on important background information I feel is needed to fully understand the Blink, Texas series. For instance, our boy, Jordan, is all up and in that series, and you will see just how much he has grown as a man in this latest book.
Anyway, here's the quick rundown: Abby and Jordan are all boo'd up. Jordan wants her to move in, but Abby has much apprehension, and rightfully so. Being that Jordan is successful and rich, he has enemies, both known and hidden. Now that everyone knows that Abby is his weakness, his enemies come for her, forcing Jordan's hand.
As always, I adore J. D. Mason and her writing. Although this book can be read as a stand alone, again, I highly recommend starting from the very beginning, with the Beautiful, Dirty, Rich series, which then branches off to the Blink, Texas series. Don't argue with me on this. You won't be disappointed, especially if you enjoy J. D. Mason's books as much as I do.
I received an ARC from NetGalley to read and review. Thanks to the publishers as well.
Abby Rhodes and Jordan Gatewood fought hard to be together. Now they are looking forward to a life of marital bliss. But sometimes the greatest threat stems from the person you trust the most.
To anyone looking at Abby and Jordan it's plain for all to see just how much they love each other. But Abby is not used to the risks associated with his wealth. Then Abby gets herself kidnapped. Someone wants Jordan to sign a contract that will completely distory him. Abby is scared that no one will come for her, but Jordan does have someone looking for her, but will he find her in time?
This is the 3rd book in a triology. I have not read the first two books.im sure my star rating would not have been any higher if I had as there are parts of the story that I just could not believe. It's not a bad read it's just not a good read. It would probably been a little better if I had read the books in order as I did feel I has missed out on some of the back story.
I would like to thank NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and the author J. D. Martin for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Bitter rivalry will destroy many lives. Jordan has come a long way from the young man that had to take over his father's company he made many mistakes but he learnt that you can't trust everyone. He is happy in love with Abby and his businesses are doing well but someone is going to make sure that he never recovers from what is about to happen. Abby knows that she loves Jordan and she is been stubborn about moving in with him as she is very independent and she doesn't want to make a mistake. She never thought that she might never see him again she has to hang on and hopes that he finds her in time. Someone has taken Abby and they want Jordan to sign a contract that will ultimately destroy him and he has no choice as he has no idea if Abby will be alive if he refuses. The people that are meant to be looking after her each have their own reasons for being involved in Abby's kidnapping but they just don't realise that their days are numbered as Jordan has someone looking for her. Abby is scared that no one is coming for her and she knows that the one kidnapper is going to take things too far and she knows that she has to hang on. Will Jordan's man find her in time and will they find out who is behind the kidnapping and blackmail? A good read I did find the story a little slow in parts. I liked Abby as she was strong and she never gave up even when the days passed and she thought that Jordan wasn't coming. Jordan is a man that gets what he wants and I did feel that he treats Abby like a prize and someone that he needs to look after all the time hopefully he let's her keep her independence. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley and the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
Before starting this book I re-read Seducing Abby Rhodes. I also read The Real Mrs Price plus the three Blink short reads.
Fully caught up I settled down to read this.
Now this could have been the best book yet but.. I’m getting ahead of myself.
Abby and Jordan are a couple, she’s the woman in his life and it’s obvious on sight how much he loves her.
But she’s not used to the risks associated with his wealth and power. Abby travels back to Blink and finds herself kidnapped.
Like the other books this was a slow read at times. Which was surprising considering it was a race to find Abby before it was too late. The problem was the book was padded out with flash backs which really slowed it down.
I know the kidnapping happened early and the flash backs fill in the gaps. But I found myself skimming again and again because I wanted to know what happened moving forward not looking back.
Abby is taken from her bed one night. Then we have a whole day (Day 1) then it’s the next day (Day 2) before Abby needs to use the bathroom.
“I . . . I need to use the bathroom,” she reluctantly said.
It was the truth. Abby had to pee. The woman noticeably tensed.
“In the cup,” she said simply.
“What?” Abby asked stunned.
“You pee in the cup.”
I’m being picky I know but it’s just not remotely realistic that she could wait that long. If so then I want a bladder like hers.
Plato. After reading Mrs Price I commented that I felt he couldn’t find a free toy in a cereal box. I’ve not really changed my mind here. He annoyed me. Abby has 5 days, just 5. He looks around her house and then goes home for tea, her life is on the line here. Even when presented with a huge clue he brushes it off.
This book had a lot of potential but (for me anyway) it didn’t quite live up to expectations.
The example I used is from the arc and may change in the final edition.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley.
I have been reading the Abby Rhodes series by JD Mason and this book did not disappoint. It’s was a really intriguing and once you start reading it’s hard to put down. It makes you wonder how people that are suffering from abuse can inflict abuse on someone else, but I guess when you are trying to escape the pain you just put on someone else. Also, this book shows how strong a woman can be when the care for someone other than themselves. Great book!!!!
Abby sure didn't deserve to be kidnapped. BUT, Jordan is determined to get her back! I had not read the earlier books so I might have missed some nuance but the propulsive nature of this thriller made it a quick, entertaining read. Abby and Jordan might seem mismatched but it's love and so it's the power of love that triumphs over the bad guys. There's some revenge too. No spoilers! Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
Abby and Jordan have been fighting an uphill battle to be able to love and live in comfort and safety. It's been an uphill battle but they have been surviving. That is until Abby is kidnapped and, Jordan is given a week to sign a contract if he wants her back alive.
This book was too slow an plodding for the first half. it sped up in the second half and, ended up being a pleasant read but, because it took so long to enjoy this book, I can only give it a 3.
Thank you for the opportunity to read/review this book. I was not connecting it to the first one so I read some reviews already posted on Goodreads.
When I read that there was a sexual assault in this I had to stop.
While I think it may go towards the story line I can't read about that type of assault.
Thank You again
I'm taking off a star because I wanted a vile ending for James, Lars and his daughter. How cruel can you be.
This is the best of the three, hands down. There's suspense, romance, and violence. I was on the edge of my seat, literally. Greed and rivalry are what fuels this story. I felt awful for Abby. Ms. Mason just allows us to suffer with her without relief. 'The Woman Trapped in the Dark' is soooo good! I just had to delete some sentences because I really can't say too much. This is a must read. I would definitely read the first two before this one to get the beauty and history of the characters. I will miss Jordan and Abby.
*Today I purchased the novella to the series, 'Hart Breaker: A Blink Texas story'. I can't wait to get to it!
I won an ARC from First Reads Giveaway and received an eArc from St. Martin's Press via Netgalley
