Sarah Booth and Tinkie find themselves caring for a baby and looking for a missing mom in this installment in a long running and highly entertaining series. Don't worry if you haven't read the earlier ones, this is fine as a standalone. I love the back and forth between the characters and if it goes over the top a bit- that's ok too. The mystery is just twisty enough. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A fun cozy read.
I love this series. Once again Sarah Booth and her crazy friends are helping solve the mystery of a young teenager who is missing. Her baby has been dropped off on Sarah's doorstop and Jitty is there to remind Sarah about motherhood. Tinkie and Oscar care for the baby until her mother is found. The mystery was OK. The characters and the Mississippi setting are fun as always. The author also incorporates her love of animals in the story. This series always makes me laugh and Jitty is always welcome for comic relief. I do wish Sarah's Romantic life would get settled. I do find her complaining about all the great guys who want a relationship with her a little annoying. This series should probably be read in order. Enjoy this humorous fun Southern Cozy Series.
I liked this story but I agree with Darcy's review that Tinkie is a little over the top and weird in this book. This is book 16 in the Sarah Booth Delaney series and I love the fact that Sarah has her ghost spirit taking care of her. Just the hint of magic/ghost makes this cozy series a little extra special. The Detective agency is doing well and Sarah and Tinkie are caring for a newborn baby that was left on the doorstep just before Thanksgiving. There is also new love interest for her. You can read this book as a stand alone but I think readers of the series will get more from the story. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
E-book/Mystery: There is so much to like about this book. Disclaimers: I did get this book from NetGalley in lieu of an honest review and I live in the south and I am partial to books set in the south. I read the first Sarah Booth book where she held the dog for ransom to pay her taxes. I have been meaning to read the series, but I keep getting sidetracked. After reading this one, I plan on getting this series on the from burner. I enjoy Sarah Booth so much. She is the wind beneath my wings. She's single and a private eye. The only thing I take issue with is that she never leashes her dog and her cat obeys commands. I didn't think cats did that. Ever.
I like that there is a ghost in her house and that the author leaves it at that. The ghost is a nag in this book, but never travels and solves cases with Sarah Booth. This book, as you can tell from the cover, involves a baby, not Sarah Booth's, whose mother is missing. I would have read this faster, but I had my grandson for a couple of days. I had to stew and ponder how Sarah Booth was going to get out of the jaws of a cottonmouth. I finally was able to read the last 30% of the book today. I enjoyed it and I hope the rest of the series is just as good.
I have enjoyed this series for a long time. Sarah is one of my favorite characters ever. The southern charm just dries through this book. The storyline of the baby is delightful. Cant wait for the next installment. Thanks netgalley for the arc. I left my honest opinion in the review
PI Sarah Booth Delaney gets a big surprise when a newborn baby is left on her front porch. Sarah Booth and her partner Tinkie Richmond need to find the baby's mother. The trail leads to a gifted teenage singer-songwriter Pleasant Smith who went missing a month ago. While Tinkie and her husband Oscar are falling in love with baby Lilly, Sarah Booth questions Pleasant's jealous classmates, teachers, and family for clues. Meanwhile, Sarah Booth's life is threatened by Gertrude Strom who has bail jumped and is looking for revenge. This was another zany, enjoyable book in the long-running Sarah Booth Delaney mystery series.
I received an eARC via Netgalley and St. Martin's Press with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book and provided this review.
This book is a charming southern read, Sarah Both Delaney is a funny and witty slueth who is in great form, especially with a baby around. If your a fam of the series you know what Jitty is thinking. I recommend this book and complete series to every bok lover
Just when it's getting good I have to go and hit the current end of the series. I can only assume more books are on the way because there is so much left unresolved.
That said, the plot and mystery of this installment is wrapped up and I sacrificed sleep last night to finish this one. Oh my goodness. I love these characters so much. I love the family Sarah Booth has created, even if it does include 3 different handsome bachelors, 3 horses, 3 dogs (incl. Chablis and Roscoe), and a cat.
I don't want to give anything away, but the story around Tinkie and Oscar did not go as I'd hoped, but I'm happy for them.
I did go with 4 stars on this rather than 5 because I thought the actual mystery lacked some final tying up - what about the others involved? The parents? Really, what about everyone in Bolivar County?
Other than that, another stellar mystery from Carolyn Haines. I look forward to the next installment.
Rock-a-Bye-Bones is another delightful read in the series.
Sarah is hosting a Thanksgiving dinner for her friends and after a long day of unsuccessful baking she stumbles into her bed, only to be awaken hours later by ringing doorbell. When she opens the door she finds newly born baby. Doc confirms all is well with the little one and Tinkie happily takes over all duties about baby. However it is imperative to find the mother as soon as possible as it is evident that she hasn't given birth in the hospital and that she is bleeding heavily.
Full of suspense, with many twists and turns this book is imposible to put it down. Same old lovable characters with new additions. Jitty makes every book so special and funny even to those who don't particularly enjoy paranormal mysteries such as myself, but I delight in her dry humor and she makes me laugh out loud with her comments. Another great read in the long series for all Carolyn Haines faithfull readers.
A good cozy mystery, fun to read and very interesting.
It's a real page turner with an interesting heroine and a cast of likeable characters.
It's well written, with no plot hole and keep you guessing till the end.
Many thanks to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley
The Sarah Booth books are all zany and fun, and they require the reader to suspend a little common sense while reading them! However, they are so much fun and make for a great afternoon of reading. In this book, Sarah Booth rescues an abandoned baby and must find the mother and save her life.
Thanks to St.Martin's Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
Rock-a-bye Bones by Carolyn Haines a mystifying four-star read. This is the sixteenth book in the Sarah Booth Delaney series but I have read it as stand-alone, I may go back and look through the previous stories as they have a real joy to them. One of the things I loved about this story was how I identified with Sarah not only do we have similar names, I’m also not a domestic goddess and have had explosions in the kitchen. The mystry will keep you on the edge of your seat and you will get sucked into this story, give it a go and have a great read.
A fair southern mystery. When Sarah finds a baby on her doorstep the hunt is on to find the mother. A fairly light and quick story, and overall enjoyable. Would recommend. The main issue I had was the flow was a little choppy, and at times skimmable, but otherwise a good story, and the mystery was well defined.
This is a great book; this is the sixteenth book in the Sarah Booth Delaney series by Carolyn Haines. Sarah Booth Delaney and her friends are still recovering from the attack on Scott Hampton’s blues club in Zinnia, Missippia. One night she hears a kitten at her door, when she goes to look it is not a kitten but a newborn baby in a basket on her front porch, with bloody footsteps leading away down the driveway. Sarah and her partner at the Delaney Detective Agency start looking for clues to track down the baby’s mother. This book has a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
This is the first book in the series by this author that I've read. Since it's a couple of years old, I'll be brief. I enjoyed the characters, even the ghost, but will admit, Tinkie was a bit much at times. The humor is there but only because it's the local customs that can make it funny, including the dialogue. I've decided to read a few of the others in the series and will recommend this to others.
I like Sarah Booth brash style of investigating, and the way she approaches the facts, the storyline is good minus the segments with the ghost, the characters are okay except for Jitty the ghost she talks too much and is annoying. Sarah is attracted to the three guys vying for her favors, she has backed herself in a corner and she needs to make a choice soon cause it looks like it might turn into a three-way split right now. It was nice how the missing pregnant girl was found alive, but these criminals confuse me a bit, am wondering why did they hold on to her for so long, after losing their so-called money making opportunity that was dropped into their willing hands, what were their real plans for her. Now Sarah is in a spot, she had to race against the clock to find and save her partner and friend Tinkie, who had gone rogue on her, she needed to do this before the police got involved, what a mess.
This is a touching, solidly written Sarah Booth novel. It moves quickly & you get a sense of the urgency Sarah feels in tracking down the baby's mother. Sarah is persistent & does what the sheriffs department didn't do, first search for, then rescue Pleasant. You really feel for Tinkie & Owen for how they feel about baby Libby & their desire to keep her, but in the end they do the right thing & reunion Libby with her mother & family. #Rock-a-byeBones #NetGalley
I really liked the mystery part of this one, where the baby came from and what happened to the mother. I was glad that Sarah Booth and crew were on the case and did right by Pleasant. What didn't work for me with this one was how crazy Tinkie got, she was beyond out of control. But that was nothing compared to Sarah Booth and her men. I don't get why they all are enamored by her and can be friends with all the other guys and not try to take them out of contention. Jitty's Delaney heir talk is getting old too. While it started out as a good thing, now it's over done.
