Thank you St. Martin's Press for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
We're down on the last book of Sons of Broad series and I'm thrilled how this ends because I want to know who's The Gentleman. This book is about the eldest Benedict brother, Kipling Benedict and Officer Alyssa Adams. These two buttheads each time they meet and now they're on the same side to find a closure to their love ones who'd been murdered and believe The Gentleman is behind of it all.
Secrets were revealed and this finale is great for brainstorming. If you haven't missed any detail, you might easily guess the mastermind. The Gentleman was wicked, selfish and jealous and karma served him right. Shame on him. It's a great conclusion for the series but this one was my least favorite. Not a fan of Alyssa and Kipling.
Broken Promise by Tara Thomas is the third and final book in the romantic suspense Sons of Broad series. There were also three prequel novellas that helped open up the series before the full length novels began. Each of the books switches the main characters/couple but the overall story has been built from the very beginning so it really is best to read the series in order.
This third book centers around the oldest of the three Benedict brothers that have been the center of the series. Kipling is looked at as the head of the Benedict family being the oldest and now it’s his turn to find love with Alyssa Adams, the very same Alyssa who is a police officer that arrested him in the past.
Alyssa became a police officer after the murder of her older sister ten years before. Now signs are pointing to her sister’s death being tied into the threat that the Benedict brothers have found themselves up against. The pair team up together to get answers and find out who has been after the entire family before it is too late.
I have been following this series from the very beginning and was quite excited to finally be able to get answers as to who was behind all of the danger. The unknown gentlemen and his motives for murder and mayhem are finally revealed in the action packed conclusion to the Sons of Broad series. This was a great conclusion that included all of the previous characters and gave a final look into them all in the wrap up. A great series overall for the fans of romantic suspense.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
I read the first book in this trilogy and thought this was the second, so imagine my surprise when I started reading and realized I'd missed a book. That said though, I was able to jump right back into the story and did not feel lost by not reading Knox and Bea's book.
This book felt better written than the first in the series. I wonder if some of that is because the focus could now just be on one brother and finishing off the mystery that has carried on through the trilogy. Kipling and Alyssa have been flirting on and off since the beginning and their chemistry is good. The romance and mystery work well together here and overall it's a good story.
My biggest issue is the inconsistencies in the story that I finally had to just power through and not dwell too much on. Things changing from one page to the next. The ending had a lot of issues in my mind - someone was shot yet they just go to the hospital waiting room with everyone else and sit as if it never happened. Someone is severely injured, yet it makes no sense and is never really explained how it occurred except to say we'll never know. They ditch phones so no one follows them, then the bad guy is calling on their burner? It’s as if parts are written in stream of consciousness and then no one went back to make sure everything flowed and made sense.
I liked this book and it's good, but I feel like it could have been better.
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy via Netgalley.
Broken Promise by Tara Thomas is the final installment in the Sons of Broad series. I feel like after each book, they just keep getting better and better. The amount of pure angst, and suspense... my heart races just thinking about it. This book features Kipling the oldest brother, and police officer Alyssa Adams. They have history... and not the good kind. But when Kiplings half sister gets kidnapped he has no one to turn to except Alyssa. This is another dark, gritty romance that left me in tears.
Give this series a try, you won't regret it!
Broken Promise ended this series with some excitement, and I enjoyed it. I never felt fully involved, though, and I think that's partly because the pace was very slow in places. Also, there were quite a bit of grammatical errors that made my reading flow difficult. Hopefully those errors will not be in the final version.
I also think that this author's writing just doesn't really work for me - the story was good, as it was in the previous books as well - however, I didn't really feel the characters. And I also didn't really care very much for any of them.
Kipling and Alyssa finally have their chance. Lots of secrets get revealed in this next installment of the Sons of Broad series.
I would recommend reading the other books in the series. Some references may not make sense without reading them first. But it’s still readable as a stand alone.
This is suspense and romance all rolled into one. 5 stars!
Alyssa and Kipling have a love hate relationship. They are brought together by a resourceful orphan. There are a lot of very good twists and turns to this story. I would definitely recommend this book.
Broken Promise is the third and final book in the Sons of Broad series. I have enjoyed this series and I enjoyed the way the author took the story and the characters. A solid Romantic suspense, I would read this series again and will recommend it to others
I was lost from the very beginning of this book, too many references to events and people. I had a very hard time getting into the book and it was like a bad part time job that I really had no interest in but had to attend anyway. I had high hopes from the description but sadly that was more interesting than the book itself.
This is the last story in a series of 3. I have not read the first 2 books and that made it hard to follow the characters backstories. I did like the book and will watch for new releases from this author
Rating 3.5.
Broken Promises was my first Tara Thomas book. In an attempt to bring readers who hadn’t read the first two books in the series up to speed, Thomas spent a lot of time recapping the backstory and introducing characters featured more in the other installments. Yet, at times I was still confused over who everyone was and what had happened previously. I especially felt I needed to know the whole story of the past interactions between Alyssa and Kipling, especially his arrest at her hands.
I also felt Thomas’s writing was clunky at times and just didn’t flow as well as it could. That being said, I still found the characters interesting, the story was very suspenseful and I did want to see Alyssa and Kipling find their happily ever after. I recommend reading the first two books first and suspect I would have rated this one higher if I had been familiar with the entire series.
Alyssa was tired. Trying to protect the missing women and the corruption in the police department has left her weary and not knowing who to trust. Finally giving into her attraction for Kipling. He listened to her and made her finally take a breath and simply enjoy life. Will that all change as danger continues to look closer in the shadows? This suspense is nerve wracking as you stay up long into the night to find out who is behind the evil that has plagued them for far too long.
Broken Promise is the final installment of a series by Tara Thomas. I had not previously read the first two installments so was a bit lost about some of the backstory. That lack of exposure did not prevent me from enjoying or wanting to read more. I will definitely be reading the first two novels as soon as I can. Characters were well written and likable. There is a definite heat and attraction between Kipling and Alyssa. I really connected with Alyssa. Her conflict between doing what she has always thought was right and moving forward hit home for me. I have to highly recommend this book. I loved it!
Broken Promise by Tara Thomas is the third and final book in the romantic suspense Sons of Broad Trilogy set in Charleston, South Carolina. This book highlights Kipling, the oldest brother, and police detective Alyssa Adams. They have history, not really that pleasant history, but there is an undeniable attraction as well. Alyssa is the only one he can turn to when his half-sister is kidnapped. What follows is another gritty, suspenseful, fast-paced story in a gritty, suspenseful, fast-paced series. "The Gentleman," who has been targeting and terrorizing the Benedict family for so long, is back, as evil as ever. Charleston is back, too. You feel as if you are there, enveloped in the atmosphere.
As the eldest of the Benedict brothers, Kipling will stop at nothing to protect his family from a threat that aims to destroy them once and for all. Broken Promise is a well-written, fast-paced book with lots of twists and turns. Even if you haven’t read the first two books in the series, the flashbacks Tara Thomas provides are enough to help you understand, and feel, the danger. I recommend you read the entire series to fully enjoy and appreciate all the backstory and the tales of the other brothers, but Broken Promise ably stands on its own, with good character development and well-thought out plot and scenes. And while this story focuses on Kipling and Alyssa and the current danger, it answers all your questions about “The Gentleman” and very nicely wraps up all the storylines.
I enjoyed Broken Promise. The atmosphere is lush, the danger seems real, and the attraction between Kipling and Alyssa is steamy. But the best thing, the thread that runs throughout the entire series, is family – just how important family, and those brought into the family circle – is and what lengths they will go to to protect and care for each other.
Note I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
This book is so interesting. It starts off catching your attention and doesnt let it go till the very end. With a good mix of suspense and romance this keeps you intertained the whole way through. Its better to read this books as a series because it will help set the story better. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest review
All I can say is wow! When I got this from netgalley, I found out it's part of a series. I had to start at the beginning before I read Broken Promise. I'm glad I did since each story builds on the next. I could not stop reading this, in fact I read it in one day. I never saw the twists and turns this story took, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story!

Broken Promise – Tara Thomas
I was fortunate to receive this novel as an Advance Reader Copy, in exchange for an objective review.
Kipling Benedict is the eldest of the three Benedict brothers, whom are the heirs apparent to the large shipping company bequeathed to them by their father. Set in beautiful Charleston, SC, Kipling has seen both of his brothers marry, but after having his heart broken at a young age, he has vowed to remain single, despite his hidden interest in Charleston PD’s Officer Alyssa Adams.
Alyssa Adams has an agenda of her own. After losing a sister to murder when she was 15 years old, she has made it her life’s work to avenge her sister and to protect society, a story she shares with Kipling over an impromptu cup of coffee one afternoon. As they talk, they discover a connection between them – a company named ‘Finition Noire’.
Soon, a young woman who proclaims to be the Benedict’s sister – Jade - goes missing, and Kipling receives a call from an individual who claims to have her. He joins forces with Alyssa in attempts to find her.
As the search for Jade intensifies, we learn of ‘The Gentleman’, and a clue left behind by Alyssa’s sister all those years ago, that ties into the present as Kipling & Alyssa give in to their chemistry and search for answers and for Jade. Just who is ‘The Gentleman’ and why does he have it in for the Benedict family?
I absolutely LOVED this book! Non-stop action and suspense, and some great reveals into the motivations and backstories of individual characters and how they became to be. It kept me guessing – and guessing wrong! Great read!! I will be watching for more from Tara Thomas!!
As the third and finally book in the series I loved how the author brought it to a close. This last book has it all....lots of suspense....romance and characters that I loved.
This is the third book in the series. I did not realize this when I started reading it. It was not too bad catching on to the characters. The book was full of action. There was something going on with every turn of the page. I enjoyed the way the author gave us glimpses of the past. It explained what made this man they call The Gentleman so evil and vindictive. It also helped us understand the characters and how they are connected. Alyssa must work with Kippling to try to get to the bottom of his sisters kidknapping and the past death of her sister. Along the way they get closer and develope romantic feelings for one another. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it. I received a free copy from Netgalley for my honest opinion.
The Kipling brothers have so far proven themselves to be everything their detractors wish they were not. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. and am looking forward to the next.
