I haven't read any other novel based on Max Revere before. I think this is #5, but I can assure you I didn't get lost or felt like I had to go back and read the other novels. In Abandoned Max Revere is looking into the disappearance of her mother. She hasn't seen her since she was 10 years old. Leaving Max with her grandmother,The Revere family is very wealthy and respected family. Max grew up with the best of everything and had the best education. Her mother Martha would always send her post cards of her travels and the last card Max received was after her 16th birthday and never was heard from again. Max, now older is an investigative reporter, with her own show specializes in cold cases. Now she wants to use her skills to find out about her mother. As she investigates, she finds out more than she imagined. With the help of a private investigator, Sean Rogan, (who can be found in other Allison Brennan books) he gives her clues of the last place Martha was that leads her to Virginia.
The way Allison Brennan writes this book, you are connected deeply in the investigation with Max. I wanted to write down the clues as Max found out, because you want to find out about Martha as well. The who, when, where, and the whys. Then you think you got it figured out, but you don't!
As the story comes to an end, I feel like there's some unanswered questions about The Revere family. Max's uncle, Martha's older brother plays a big part in the story, that needs to be explored more. I hope there's more to the story in another book. I hope this isn't the end because I need more questions answered.
Another hit by Allsion Brennan! Well developed characters. A well developed and well written story and plot that flows effortlessly. I hope to see more of Max, Ryan and Eve in future books.
Thank you #NetGalley and #StMartinsPress for the eARC.
Abandoned by Allison Brennan is another interesting story about Maxine Revere and her search for the truth. This time her search leads her to information about her personal history. Its an exciting book. I must admit I stayed up most of the night reading it. Thats how interesting I found the story!
Many thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Suspense, suspense, and more suspense! Until I read other reviews I did not realize this book was part of a previous series. I read it as a stand alone story and really enjoyed it. The characters were introduced at a nice pace, not too rushed and not to slow as the story developed into a gripping plot. The plot was well thought out by the author and the twists kept coming.
My only criticism was the way some of the dialogue was written. When two people were in a discussion, the sentences all ran together. I often had to reread a paragraph to follow the discussion between two characters. Like.. "Hello. How are you? Oh, I'm fine thanks. How are you? Did you see Max? No, did you.?" There was no delineation to identify who was speaking, no quotations or he said, she said. It got confusing at times.
The author did a realistic job with the story delivery. My visualizations of the area and people were very clear. I felt I was right there along with Max, Eve, Brian, David, Gabriel and the rest. Ms. Brennan has a vivid imagination that took us on an interesting flight through parental abandonment, art thievery, a small sleepy resort town, murder, love, trust fund kids, lies and secrets. All this wrapped up into a fabulous read.
Get yourself a copy. This book is pretty difficult to put down once you pick it up. Hope you enjoy the ride as much as I did!
I loved this book. Very well written mystery and a good ending. This book hooked me from page one and I really liked the characters
This is Book 5 in the Max Revere series but can be read as a stand alone. Fantastic book! I have been a fan of this Author for many years. Maxine Revere is an investigative reporter in New York with a cable tv show. She investigates cold cases. Her mother left her with her grandparents when she was 9 years old. Maxine received postcards from her mother usually around her birthday. They stopped coming when she was 16. In this book Maxine travels to a small seaside town, the place where her mother's car was found abandoned. The story is excellent and the characters (most of them) leave a warm feeling in your heart. There are some sad parts. Such a good book from the beginning to the end, Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
I really enjoy the Max Revere novels and the visits from other Allison Brennan novels :)
Max has had her ups and downs and this book really runs the gauntlet of emotions...up, down and up again! A touch a romance with some suspense and police procedural, it's a great story that moves quickly.
I love a good mystery, but this simply didn’t pull me in. I was disappointed and found the plot too absurd.
If you're a fan of this series and have kept up with it you will know as you read this book that it might just be the most important book for Max.
She's taken time off work to find her mother, or at least what happened to her, and she will not air until she does. Well that's not all Max finds!
Grab some tissues your gonna need them at some point in this book. This is my favorite book so far in this series and that's saying something because I like them all but this one is just... more!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Max Revere has had a successful as an investigative reporter, but she’s often wondered about her own mysterious past and why her mother disappeared when she was just a child. Seven years after her disappearance, her mother is declared dead. Max has reached the point in her life where she needs answers and begins following the few clues she has about her mother. She learns her mother took up with a confidence man, and that together, the two made their merry way across the world, conning people out of their money along the way. It turns out the FBI is still looking for the man her mother was involved with, but no one is talking. Max has to wonder if her mother was a victim or a willing participant, and whether she really wants to know the truth about what really happened to her
