***Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the chance to review this book. The following is my honest opinion of the book.***
I read the book description up above and was intrigued to say the least. I love reading different types of books and every so often a thriller will just sound too good to turn down. This is exactly what happened with this book. I would be lying if I told you it was one of those books you have figured out from page 5. I had no idea how it was gonna turn out. Joe is such a great character. I love that he was the victim in the story instead of his wife. I wish I could tell you all the many twists and turns that surprised me but it would be giving to much away. I WILL tell you that I have not read a book quite like it. It was a page turner from the beginning and it truly kept me guessing. I can say that this is one of the best suspense/thriller books I have read in a very, very long time. I rated this one 5 out of 5 stars.
This is a suspenseful and twisty novel. I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did and if you like thrillers, then more likely than not you will have a good time with this story.
Joe is driving his son home when they spot his wife's car on the road. He decides to follow it and watches as she arrives at a hotel and has a conversation with their friend Ben.
From that moment Joe starts question why his wife is in that location and having, what appears to be, a disagreement with Ben. With his mind in turmoil, Joe makes a decision that irrevocably changes the course of his life. What is that decision? You will have to read to find out.
I found the plot well-paced and flowing. At some points I questioned the decisions the characters made but that is the case with almost every book I read. The author did a good job at building and maintaining the suspense.
Overall, I enjoyed it and recommend it to readers of contemporary fiction, thrillers, and misteryes.

Good psychological mystery. Joe is going about his life, minding his own business with everything right in his life. Suddenly, he sees his wife's car, in a place where it's not expected to be, and Joe's life spirals out of control from there. Joe has a naivety about his marriage that contributes to his situation. As the truth comes out of the lies, the story ends with a shocking conclusion.
Imagine that you find out one day.....seemingly out of the blue.....that your entire life is based on lies. All of it. What you thought you could trust, suddenly you can't believe in. An altercation with a family friend leaves a man on the sidewalk injured. Joe leaves the scene to get medical help for his son who is having an asthma attack. When he returns, the man is gone.....but then the text messages start. Joe's life rapidly disintegrates. Lies, lies, lies....all lies.
I found this book a bit hard to read. The plot is disturbing. I didn't feel sorry for Joe. What I felt was more akin to pity, I think. He's just.....stupid. Completely naive. What person today reaches their mid-30s and can't discern anything about human behavior? He is completely blindsided by everything. I guess maybe when you are completely content, you ignore warning signs? The entire time I was reading I kept wanting to grab Joe and shake him, yelling "Stop being so bloody stupid!'' All of the characters are hiding something....lying, manipulating, cheating. Just an unlikable crew. It was hard to sit back and watch Joe's life totally come to pieces all because of one spur-of-the-moment innocent choice to please his young son....BOOM..... One decision.....and he can never go back to content.
Powerful story. But I felt emotionally exhausted as I finished reading. All the horrible lies. All the twists. The absolute trashing of a man's entire life......OMG. That sort of train wreck is hard to watch. I did stick through the entire book because I just HAD to know the entire truth and what was going to ultimately happen. But I didn't get entirely sucked into the story because I just felt Joe was completely naive....and the rest of the cast were horrendous human beings. But, if a book gives me strong feelings....even negative ones....then it's well written and got its point across. Do we ever really totally know the people around us? Everyone has secrets. Everyone tells lies. How much can any person really trust? And what happens when things start to fall apart? For Joe, they fall apart in a disastrous way.
Well-written, but disturbing. Several surprising twists. I had to watch a few sitcom episodes after I finished this. Needed a fast palate cleanser to clear my head.
I will definitely be reading more by this author! I know now to keep a funny movie queued in wait for me to finish. His other book, 29 Seconds, sounds just as disturbing. The tag line says "How much could you lose in 29 seconds?'' I might just need two funny movies after that one!
**I voluntarily read a review copy of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.**
This book is easy to read, and a bit predictable, but it still holds my attention. Lies, they always come undone and that's what's doing in Joe Lynch. His last name fits, this guy is framed and virtual "lynched" with what he's going through. I found it to be fast-moving, with nice short chapters. I can see this one on TV as a movie.
My copy came from Net Galley. My review is my own, left of my own free will.
Joe Lynch is a decent, caring man who dearly loves his wife and son, enjoys his teaching job, and feels lucky to have such a great life. Then, one day while driving on the freeway with his son, the boy spots his mother’s car and wants to see her. Joe makes a split-second decision that will drastically change his life and follows her off the freeway. He gets the shock of his life when he catches up with her, just in time to see something that shakes him to the core and upends his life.
Read this enjoyable whodunnit to find out what he saw and the chaos that ensued.
Note: I received an advance copy of the ebook from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Joe Lynch’s life is changed forever when he is charged for murder. Did Joe commit this crime? His life has been perfect until this point. His wife is an adulteress and Joe and his son see her car pulling into a motel. He thought he knew his wife so well!
This book will keep you guessing what is going to happen next and their is a surprise at the end that you will not expect!
I definitely recommend reading this book
This was an intense ride that left me breathless more often than I expected. The twists and turns just never stopped coming and even at the end I was still trying to slow my heart down from the excitement. Logan did an excellent job in engaging and diverting and just generally entertaining the reader. A well written story definitely worth your time.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book.
Wow! I’m still reeling from the twists of this storyline! Well written, and spellbinding from the first page. This story moved fast and did not disappoint. The characters were well developed and believable. It was all around a very good thriller!
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I can’t believe It took me this long! Fantastic read.
Thank you Net-Galley, ST. Martin's Press and author for the opportunity to read this story.
This book will hold your attention and leaving you wanting to know what is going to happen next. There was a twist that I saw coming and thought I it figured out and I partially did but not 100 percent
I felt sorry for a few of the characters then I was like oh no she had me fooled. Great story I found another author to read!
Joe Lynch impulsively follows his wife's car one day and stumbles upon what he suspects is evidence that she is having an affair. Joe becomes a beleaguered man entangled in lies and a murder investigation while his life implodes. Once you know that the title of this book is "Lies" you pretty much know not to trust anyone. Nevertheless, I found it entertaining to try to figure out who was lying and why. While not entirely believable, this book did hold my interest especially in the beginning. Later on, all of the talk about phones, computers and apps made my eyes glaze over and my fingers begin to skim, but I wanted to see how things turned out. I would be willing to read this author again. I've rounded my 3.5 star rating up to 4.
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
This is a dark and twisty thriller filled with lies that keep the reader as confused and guessing at what’s happening as the victim, Joe. The author does a good job of creating suspense and tension to propel the reader to the final conclusion. I like a book that I can’t guess and figure it all out. This was one of those thrillers. Well done~
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC of this book.
I kept trying to like this book but I couldn't. Lots of people gave it 4 and 5 star reviews and I guess this is what kept me reading to the end. I kept waiting for it to become interesting. I found all of the characters not likable and the plot was pedestrian. As for the twist at the end, give me a break.
Sorry, I tried. Would have been 3 stars but I found the ending offensive.
Wow this is a exciting thriller that is non stop action !
I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy fast action thriller.s and psychological suspense.
Poor Joe Lynch is just a ordinary husband and father with a career he loves. His life is routine and he likes his normal life One day he makes a decision to follow his wife’s car. That proves to be the decision that changes his life forever.
When he follows her to a parking garage, she’s arguing with Ben, the husband of one of her friends. Joe gets out and the fight soon escalates, Ben is knocked unconscious. Joe has to leave quickly as he has his young son with him and he needs medical attention. When Joe comes back both Ben and his car are gone.
Now Joe is the object of threats and stalking by text from Ben. Then the situation gets worse when Ben’s wife reports him missing. This is a dynamite action thriller. You will feel for the charcters of Joe and wonder throughout what really happened to Ben and is he torturing Joe for a specific reason? Is he still involved with Joe's wife and is she in on it? Wow I was blown away by this book. A great read.
Thank you for the ARC which does not influence my review. I look forward to further work by this author.
I was so excited to get the privilege of reading this book and all I can say is Wow! It did not disappoint. I started early one morning and could not put it down. A thrilling story that really kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. I will definitely be gifting this one for holidays this year !
Just one word..... WOW!!! Couldn't put this down because I needed to know what happened-- thought I had it figured out, but I did not. Have already recommended to a few of my regular customers, as well as coworkers
To be honest, I was pretty bored by this book. It kept me just interested enough not to put it down, but I was definitely not invested in the characters. I just kept wondering how a mother could behave that way to her son and the father of her child.
Lies by TM Logan is a fast paced, psychological thriller that follows Joe Lynch, a common school teacher with an ordinary life. Joe Lynch is married to his beloved wife Melissa Lynch, and together they have a 4 year old son named William. Joe lives a simple, but fulfilled life in London. Joe’s quaint life is given a firm jolt into the chaotic when his son spots his wife’s car in traffic one day as they are headed home. William wants to visit with his mother and Joe not wanting to disappoint him follows the car. He finds her at a hotel in a part of town that makes no sense. Unsuspecting Joe tracks through the hotel and finds his wife in a heated argument with Ben Delaney. Ben and Beth Delaney have been married for many years and are both good friends with Joe and his wife.
Caught off guard by the hostility expressed by Ben Delaney, Joe recedes to his car and vows to ask his wife if everything is ok when she comes out to the parking garage. Unaware that Joe is there, his wife speeds out of the garage before he can stop her. Joe sees Ben start to leave to his car and he approaches him in an effort to ask him if everything was ok. Joe does not get much of a chance to reconcile information with Ben, because Ben attacks Joe in an uncharacteristic move into physical aggression. Joe pushes Ben away and Ben loses his footing and falls heavily to the ground. After Ben does not get up again, Joe can only assume Ben May be seriously injured. Just as Joe is getting ready to call the ambulance, his son shows up behind him suffering from an asthmatic attack. With no other options Joe makes the decision to drive home to get his son’s inhaler. He vows to follow up as soon as he can with his friend Ben to make sure he is ok.
About an hour later, Joe returns to the parking garage only to find that Ben and his vehicle are no longer there. Figuring that Ben has gone home, Joe writes off the strange encounter as an odd anomaly, and he returns to his life. It is at this point that Joe’s life takes a turn for the worst. It starts with some cryptic Facebook messages coming from Ben Delaney’s Facebook account. Things escalate quickly when Beth Delaney reports her husband missing. As Ben’s missing person’s investigation unfolds, Joe comes into focus as a viable suspect in his disappearance. The harder Joe tries to clear his name, the faster his perfect life deteriorates.
Lies is well written with clear, vivid prose. Joe Lynch is a sympathetic protagonist, who’s most like able aspect is that he is just like any one of us. It is easy to see our routine lives in Joe’s life. His nightmare could happen to any of us in the right circumstances. Lies kept me engaged to the end, and capped off with a head spinning twist that I didn’t see coming.
Lies gripped me from the start, it was super fast-paced and had me wondering what was going on. I stayed really interested throughout the novel, and pleasantly, I didn't figure things out until just before the reveal. In a time where thrillers are incredibly commonplace, I think Lies made a great impact. 3.5 stars. This book to me 4.5 hours to read.
Thank you to St Martin's Press for an e-copy of Lies for review. Lies is currently available for purchase.
Lies is a twisty, quick paced thriller. Joe Lynch was driving his son home when his son spots his mom's car heading into a hotel parking lot. They end up walking in on a fight between his wife and her best friend's husband, Ben. When Joe confronts him in the parking lot and then leaves him unconscious on the ground, things start unraveling. Ben is declared missing and Joe is the prime suspect. Uncovering lies that his wife has been telling, trying to clear his name, and figure out where Ben could be and why this is all happening to him all over the next week.
A quick paced and captive thriller, I found Lies to be good, but not great. I have never been in this kind of situation but there would definitely have been less trust in certain people after a while if I was him. Some of the twists for me started to feel like a twist for shock value only, not leading the story anywhere but down the wrong path just so it could change direction again. But that said, if you want something to keep you guessing and keep you interested, this one will do the trick. I did not see where this one was going!
