Lies by T. M. Logan is an excellent psychological thriller, which I really enjoyed. Joe Lynch is driving home after picking up his son, when his son spots his mom going into a hotel. Joe follows her and finds her arguing with a male friend of theirs. When Joe confronts the man and things turn physical, Joe's son has an asthma attack and they rush home to get his medication. Once I started this book, I could not stop reading until I was done. I will be reading more books by this author. I recommended this book for anyone who likes books full of twists and turns and surprises around every corner. I strongly recommended this book.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
What if what you knew was based on a lie?
I received a copy from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my honest opinion. I was quickly drawn into this book. Even though the characters were flawed, they seemed very real. The story moved along very well for me.
What if your whole life was based on LIES? Thoughout this novel, this question comes to mind. It's the story of a man, Joe, who stumbles across the fact that his wife is having an affair with her best friend Beth's husband, Ben. Or is she? When Ben mysteriously disappears after a fight with Joe, he is suspected by the police of murdering Ben. Joe feels he is being set up by Ben to get him out of the way, so Ben can claim Joe's wife, Mel. Can Joe prove Ben is still alive before the police believe the framed evidence? Or will Joe go to jail for a crime he didn't commit?
Lies is a great thriller, with lots of suspense and page-turning surprises! The writing was real, honest, and easy to read. The characters were well developed and interesting. Joe is the guy we all want to marry and father our children, so I liked him immediately and cheered him to succeed. The ending was shocking! I had no clue, even though thinking back it is subtly foretold, but the author keeps just enough information back from the reader to jolt us at the end!
If you enjoyed The Women in the Window or In a Dark, Dark Woods, I think you'd be a fan of this novel!
This is a well written book which unfortunately did not grab and hold my attention. I am certain that many other will enjoy this thriller.
True, there are more lies told in this suspense novel than in the course of a typical political campaign. But a better title might have been "Gone Guy," so closely does it follow the blueprint of Gillian Flynn's mega-selling book. Still, it's a decent tale, reasonably well told. It can rightly be called a page-turner, even if I found myself turning pages faster and faster towards the last quarter of the story just to get to the payoff. A cover blurb suggests that readers will not guess the final twist, but when the book itself is called "Lies" you will find that your heightened scrutiny may put the lie to that claim. Take off your Sherlock hat and you will enjoy it more.
“What’s done cannot be undone.” Lies It is often said that one can't ever trust a liar. For Joe Lynch his life is about to turn as he finds the "truth" of that quote. One day driving home his son spots his wife entering a hotel. Joe's son convinces him that they need to surprise mommy and so they follow her with shocking results. For he finds her with Ben, a casual friend of theirs, having a full blown out argument. Joe doesn't know what to do and later confronts Ben, thinking of course that his wife is having an affair. Angry words are exchanged in the hotel parking lot. Words lead to aggression and Ben is pushed, hits his head and is knocked out. Joe leaves the scene figuring someone will find Ben or that he will wake up, but then his conscience clicks in and he feels he needs to return to the scene and check up on Ben. When he arrives he finds Ben is gone and then Ben just seems to vanish.
Where is Ben and why is he intervening in Joe's social media account? In the altercation, Joe has lost both his phone and a treasured bracelet. Now, it would seem that Joe has information from the phone that he will use to attack and bait Joe.
The police are alerted first declaring Ben a missing person and then as things start to rack up against Joe, they start to think that there has been foul play. Meanwhile, Joe is being harassed by Ben on social media as well as text messages. These messages are cryptic as well as threatening. The men schedule to meet on a number of occasions, and Joe swears he knows that Ben is somewhere alive taunting him. What is going on? Is Ben his wife's paramour? Is she lying to him about their involvement? Who can he trust? Things escalate and Joe becomes a suspect in the possible murder of Ben. Will he ever be able to clear himself? Joe seems to be caught in a never ending spiral of lies, deceit, and distortions.
This was a fast paced interesting book that had a cast of characters who were deceptive, carrying out a subterfuge that had no end in sight. There were many twists and turns as the characters seemed to carry out their many distortions and fabrications right up to the end of the book where there was a major "wow" moment......didn't see that one coming for sure happening....
All in all, it was a well done thriller although Joe was a bit too gullible and forgiving for my tastes. He was so desperate to make things right that he stumbled from one lie into the next and didn't even seem to blink an eye. “The truth of the battle is whatever the victor deems it to be’ – Sun Tzu.” What ultimately is the truth is the shocker ending which to this reader saved what might have been a mediocre book making it into something that was definitely a cut above.
This story was spellbinding! Initially, the characters seem ordinary, borderline boring but it picks up quickly when you realize there’s so more to them (without giving too much away, I haven’t been able to look at an average acquaintance the same way since!). Excellent read!
A rollercoaster of a book, straight from the start the author pulls you in. Lies tells the story of of two couples and the love affair to starts between two of the partners. You initially believe that it’s a story of simple revenge, but of course it’s all smoke and mirrors hiding the actual truth. Lies is well written and incredibly believable, we put our trust into the ones closest to us without a second thought. Lies is one of the top thrillers I’ve read this year. Look forward to seeing more by this author.
What would you do if you were accused of a crime you didn’t commit and you didn’t know if you could even trust your wife? That’s the position Joe Lynch finds himself in.
This book kept me interested from the very beginning all the way until the end! Twists and turns the whole way through the book and the end was so unpredictable! Read this book; you won’t be disappointed!!!
Have you noticed that "lies" is the big word in book titles this past summer?
For awhile it was "girl"
The Girl on The Train
Gone Girl
The Girls
Luckiest Girl Alive
Then it changed to "Woman"
The Woman in Cabin 10
The Woman in the Window
The Other Woman
For awhile "Wife" was really big
The Wife Between Us
The Wife
The Silent Wife
My Husband's Wife
And I've noticed that "Lies" is definitely having a moment
Sweet Little Lies
Tell Me Lies
The Last Time I Lied
The Marriage Lie
Sometimes I Lie
and of course, my most recent read: Lies by T.M. Morgan
Like most of the books listed above, Lies is a psychological thriller. It follows the disintegration of the marriage between Joe and Mel. Joe is living a happy suburban life with his wife and young son when a chance encounter changes everything.
This book was definitely well written and entertaining. It kept my attention throughout and was a quick, fun read. However, as has happened so often in the last few years, it felt a little too formulaic for me.
I can't tell you how many books I've read that follow the same basic plot of a seemingly happy couple falling down a rabbit hole of lies and deceit that inevitably get exposed. The details change but the basic formula is there.
So, unfortunately, while it was entertaining and fast-paced and well written, it will not be memorable for me. It doesn't stand out among the fully saturated domestic thriller market.
I give it a solid 3.5 stars and encourage anyone who doesn't read a ton of thrillers to give it a try. It was a worthwhile read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my free copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
This novel has the requisite twist ending for a successful thriller. Even though I didn’t see it coming, which made me thoroughly pleased, the journey felt stunted and jerky. The characters’ behavior was usually frustrating and illogical making it difficult to root for anyone. That being said, it was entertaining and mostly engaging.
Loved it!!! This book captured me from the first page and I could't put it down. From the very beginning the story took a hold of me and I didn't want to put it down each night to go to sleep. Every time I would tell myself I would just read one more chapter, the story took a completely different turn and I wanted MORE! The story flew by and I didn't feel the narrative was bogged down with stuffy descriptions or too much text. I didn't guess the ending and I also didn't see it coming. The entire story left you guessing...was the wife guilty or not??!! I would love to read more by this author. T.M Logan...this story "Lies" to the reader the whole way through...who did it and what did they do??
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters were well written and they were very believable. I didn’t foresee the twists and turns that this book made but I was very invested in the story and its’ outcome.
My heart hurt for Joe and then when it dd, I didn’t really know if it should or not. Was he an unreliable narrator? Damn, this was a good story and I highly recommend it.
It is said that everyone lies. So who do you trust? That is the dilemma in which Joe Lynch, the main character, finds himself. This book keeps you interested from the first page to the last. The characters are well developed and they take you along with them in every thing they do. There are surprises at every turn and the ending was one of those surprises. I enjoyed this book very much and am glad I received it free from NetGalley for an honest review.
In “Lies” by T.M. Logan we meet Joe and his wife Mel. Joe adores his wife and has agreed to reduce his work load to stay home with their young son. But one faithful day on his way home with their son they spot Mel somewhere she should not be. The decision Joe makes to follow his wife and see what she is doing will uncover lies that date back decades and will shatter life as he knows it.
I have to say that I was kept guessing up until the end and while it dragged a little in the middle I am glad I stuck it out. I received a copy of this book through Net Galley for my honest review.
Loved this book. The title of this book is perfect. No one seemed to tell the truth in this book, except Joe. I don't know why I keep reading these types of books. I get so frustrated when I know the person is innocent and everyone else is convinced he's guilty. I couldn't put this book down, I needed to make sure Joe was vindicated and Ben was found. The ending was definitely a twist and turn I didn't see coming.
While Joe is driving his son home, they spot Mel's car. They decide to surprise her and follow her to a hotel parking lot. Inside Joe sees his wife, Mel, having an animated conversation with Ben. Ben happens to be the husband of Mel's best friend. Joe ends up getting into a small fight with Ben in the parking lot and punches Ben. Ben is knocked out on the pavement when Joe needs to leave due to his son having an asthma attack. From there things just get worse. Ben is missing. Joe finds out his wife was lying to him. The cops arrest Joe for the murder of Ben. The whole time Joe keeps getting messages from Ben, but where is he? Joe is on a mission to find out where Ben is hiding and along the way he discovers so much more. All the lies are finally revealed and there are a lot of them.
I loved the story, writing style and characters. Most of the people were crazy and not in a good way. I can't believe people would do this and send an innocent person to jail. From the start I thought Ben was an awful person and Mel wasn't to be trusted. I felt so bad for Joe and Beth. I was never so wrong. The ending was wonderful. I never expected it. I wish a little more was said about the arrests of the people involved. These books make me so anxious because I keep thinking- He's being set up!!!! Can't you see!!! All the characters played their part well.
I definitely recommend the book and can't wait to read more by the author.
Thanks to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press and the author, T.M. Logan, for a free electronic ARC of this novel.
I gave this book 4/5 stars on Goodreads. Couldn't put it down. Definitely recommend for suspense/thriller lovers.
Joe Lynch is a pretty average guy, a good husband to Mel & a wonderful father to William. One day after he picks William up from school, William recognizes his mother's car at a hotel and they decide to surprise her. They start to head into the hotel, when Joe sees Mel and their friend Ben having an angry shouting match in the hotel's restaurant. Ben storms out of the hotel, finds Joe in the parking lot and starts shouting at him. Ben attacks him, he shoves Ben back, and Ben falls, strikes his head, and is knocked out. At the same time William has an asthma attack and he must rush him home to get his inhaler. Later, he returns to the hotel to check on Ben, but Ben is gone. And that's when he begins to receive strange messages from Ben on his phone and through Facebook.
From there it's a cat and mouse game, & I was enthralled. From about the 30% mark on, I couldn't put it down, and when I wasn't reading, I was thinking about the puzzle of who was doing what. I did guess before the end who was behind it, but only part of the story. It was a pretty good twist.
This book talks a lot about the forensics related to social media and cell phones. I had no idea how much info can be collected from your cellular activity, but I totally believe it, and it creeps me out!
This book had be hooked from the very beginning! So many great and believable characters. Easy to love, easy to hate and easy to doubt. The main character was so strong and so likeable. I found myself pulling for him to be wrong in his suspicions. The deep and true love he felt for his wife and son were so real!
Just when you think the book can’t take another turn...boom. There you are again, jaw dropped!
Great book with a nice surprise twist at the end. I did NOT see that coming! Strong book.
4/5 stars. Thank you NetGalley for the privilege of reading this book for an honest review.
⭐⭐⭐ ½
One fateful day Joe on his way back after picking his son up from school is surprised to see his wife who was supposed to be at work pull into a hotel garage. Curious he followed her where he witnesses her arguing with a family friend Ben. Trying to get to the bottom of the argument Joe intervenes but the altercation turns violent with Joe knocking Ben unconscious. That one decision turns Joe’s life upside down with nowhere to turn to as he discovers his whole seemingly happy life was based on a bunch of lies .
Lies a debut by T.M.Logan was based on an interesting premise with some twists and turns . It started fast and the pace was a little slow in the middle but the extra twist in the end made up for it . Overall an interesting read about how social media and technology play such an important part in our lives.
I would like to thank St. Martin’s Press & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

This book was far fetched and tedious . I skipped a lot as pace was slow . Too much cell phone conversations and phone and computer technology for me. Story line picked up near the end but that was way too late for me. The title is appropriate as this book is all about deceit and lying to everyone.. spouses, children , employers, police , detectives, family members , friends.
