Twisted and dark, Lies messed with my mind! I was hooked from the very beginning and found it be the very definition of a page-turner.
This was one of those books that had a great story line but bugged the snot out of me. Joe Lynch is being jerked around and I felt like he was too gullible and should have figured out that things were not as they seemed. But he was such a good hearted, genuine person that it's possible he couldn't imagine people manipulating him.
There was an amazing twist at the end that made it worth staying with the book to the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and twenty7 Publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
i am no longer comfortable reading thrillers. There was a time when I did of course, but no longer feel comfortable doing so; maybe at some time in the distant future ,I will again but not in the near future.. Since this website requires me to give this a star rating, I'll give this a middle of the road 3 stars. I, of course will not e putting any type of review or rating on Goodreads.
I loved this story. Man, the whole set up was confusing. I felt terrible for the main character as he navigated his way through the confusion. I couldn’t stop reading! So interesting and unique.
Love psychological thrillers and this one was part whodunit, part thriller. I have to admit it didn't take me long to read it, since I would read past midnight, not wanting to miss the next chapter!
This book started out with a dad named Joe and his son in their car. While driving, the son sees his mother's car and mentions it to Joe. They decide to follow her, and before they know it, they're at a hotel, witnessing a family friend and Mommy have an argument. Joe decides to approach his friend Ben while he's walking to his car in the parking lot and the two have a conversation, but Joe ends up with more questions than answers. Ben also ends up on the ground of the parking lot after their altercation and things just seem to spin out of control after that.
Any book that has me asking questions throughout, especially about personalities, behaviors and motives, draws me in. This book did exactly that! Well written, fast-paced and with events that keep you asking questions during the investigation, this book does not disappoint on the "what's going on" scale. And the ending twist was a nice finish, considering everybody seems to be capable of wanting something bad to happen to Ben.
One thing I have to give credit to the author for, is the realistic reactions of Joe. Normally dialogue between married couples and other people sometimes never sound realistic, but as tension began to build, there were realistic questions asked, rational reactions and it made for a believable story line, so well done on that!
In order to know exactly what happens, you'll have to read for yourself. What if everything you've ever believed WAS a lie? #lies #netgalley

Lies is a twisty, turny book FULL of unrealiable characters. At one point or another, you are second guessing about everyone accept the little boy! You think you figure it out, and then it pulls you into another direction. The ending worked, it made me mad and I didn't see it coming; but also I think that means that the author did his job.
This was the second T. M. Logan book I’ve read and I enjoyed them both immensely. Lies delves into the life of Joe Logan, who witnesses something he shouldn’t have and becomes the lead suspect in the disappearance of his friend. Joe soon finds that he is entrapped in a tangled web of seduction and deceit.
This moved along at a quick rate and held my interest throughout. It had an abundance of twists and turns and an ending that I did not see coming.
Many thanks to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press and T. M. Logan for my complimentary e-copy ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
the psychological thriller burn out is real for me these days. this one had a ton of potential but i do think i need to take a break from thrillers lately as nothing surprises me anymore.
This was your typical thriller with frustrating characters, a somewhat unrealistic twist, and a quick wrap up in the last 10%. It’s an easy enough read but I’m not sure I’d recommend reading it when there are so many other books in the world.
I listened to this novel and I really enjoyed it. I also was provided a copy of the novel so I could follow along. To me, it was one of those mysterious novels where something felt off and I was just waiting for something major to transpire, because it had to, right? The answers just never seemed to add up.
I wanted to pull Joe through the pages and strangle him. His behavior was driving me crazy. Had his young son not seen his mother’s car, his wife’s affair might not have been detected. Joe was educated yet at times, he acted like he was wearing blinders. Exposed, Mel claims that her relationship with Ben is over but is it really? With clever twists, the story gives you a lot to think about.
I liked the short chapters and how quickly the novel progressed. I liked how William (son) was involved in the novel and how he continued to play a role throughout the story. It was a clever story and one that kept me vigilant until the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me a copy of this book, this review is my own opinion of the novel.
Joe Lynch makes a quick decision to see his wife, Mel, one day when he and his son see her car. When he catches up to her in a parking garage, she’s arguing with Ben, the husband of one of her friends. Mel leaves and Joe decides to confront Ben and a fight escalates, with Ben being knocked unconscious. Joe has to leave then, because his son has an asthma attack that needs immediate medical attention. When Joe comes back later, both Ben and his car are gone. Now, the father and husband is in the middle of a nightmare, he gets threatening texts from Ben, while at the same time Ben’s wife reports him missing
Joe is overly trusting and decides that he is going to find Ben before anything else escalates. His Facebook page has been posted on by someone who has his now missing phone and the police are looking at him as a suspect. The book was good, I got a little bored at some parts but I enjoyed the surprise at the end.
This was a pretty decent book. The story was there, but also quite a bit of filler to slough through to get to what I was looking for, but I was hooked enough to continue on.
Wow! What a book that totally took me by surprise! Holy cow, I did not see that coming! It's hard to talk about any of it without giving away spoilers, but I thought that some of the ending would end the way it does, but there was a surprising little twist that I totally never thought about!
This is my first book by T.M. Logan and certainly won't be my last. I am so grateful that the Publisher provided me a copy, via Netgalley, in return for an honest review! I just wish I would have read this much sooner!
The narrator that they chose for this book seemed to fit it perfectly! He suited the main character well!
Overall, I can't wait to see what else this author has to offer!
Lots to like here, but there is also a fair amount of filler to endure until you get to the good stuff.
Joe Lynch, like most husbands, thinks his family life and marriage is kicking along okay until it suddenly absolutely isn't. Out with his young son one day, Joe spots his wife in a hotel, having a rather intense conversation with a man that Joe has always written off as a bit of a cad but fairly harmless. The world changes in an instant for Joe, tugged along on a string of text messages, lies and clues to an affair he never knew had been happening right beneath his eyes. When the police suspect that the now missing Ben is a victim of homicide, it is inevitable that Joe is the most suspicious person in their cross hairs - as the cuckolded husband.
You do need to assess this novel as the debut that it is, and as a kick off point, its a solid entry into the world of psychological thrillers. Joe Lynch is the Joe Average of all of us, thrust into a hideous situation that he is ill equipped to deal with and must cope with as best he can.
LIES struggles to keep up the momentum of the chase, and it does go around and around repeating the same information, inclusive of Joe's worries. The conclusion is sort of logical - but the foundation weren't there during the build up, making is less believable.. We needed more of the classic red herrings threaded into the plot. LIES does a great job of keeping the reader in the now, wondering what is going to happen next, making us feel for this poor bewildered husband and father who has had his whole life de-rail with no warning on the tracks.
**I would like to thank the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review**
This novel was wicked awesome!! Mr. Logan knows how to write a page-turner, that's for sure. I didn't want to put this book down. I loved the characters - so well written and believable. Didn't see the ending coming either. A contender for the best book I've read all year!!!
5 stars.
This guy was so naive, so toothless, so not likable. Could not get thru the story. The writing was juvenile and the story just didn't hold my attention.
TM Logan is known for easy suspense reads in a modern British fashion - ordinary people find that their lives are all but ordinary. That is precisely the plot in Lies. Joe is an ordinary British man with a steady job, loving wife, and sweet family...or so he thought. When he sees his wife in a compromising situation, he begins to question everything he knew and ultimately commits and act he never thought he could. This book has lots of twists and turns, but overall, is a fairly predictable read with over-the-top drama. While it is a quick read and is great if you like modern British family dramas, it is nothing revolutionary.
Joe's life is unraveling and he cna't trust the person he should be able to trust with anything. Is his whole life based on lies?
The first recommended book with a male POV is “Lies” by T. M. Logan. Classified under the genre Mystery & Thrillers, it has been described by New York Times bestselling author Lee Child as “Assured, compelling, and hypnotically readable—with a twist at the end I guarantee you won’t see coming.”
I agree! When I first got hold of this book, I was hooked in the first chapter. I could not turn the pages fast enough. There were a few holes in the logic, but they were not significant enough to deter me from enjoying the book.
“Lies” opened with Joe Lynch, a happily married man, a devoted father, and a respected teacher living in a well-to-do London suburb driving home with his son when he saw his wife enter a hotel parking garage.
That was the pivotal moment when Joe’s “perfect and very ordinary life” tilted on its axis. After witnessing his wife having a heated argument with her best friend’s husband, Joe got into an altercation with the other man where he left him for dead, bleeding and unconscious.
Feeling guilty, Joe went back to the scene of the crime in a manner of speaking but found the man missing, all traces him, including his car was gone.
What followed was a rollercoaster ride where Joe did not know whether he was coming or going, what was real and what was not, what was the truth and what was the lie.
There is only one constant he can rely on – his son William is real, and Joe needs to protect him. But what if it costs him his life? Who will take care of William?
This book kept me coming back for more and the ending I didn’t see coming but it tied in all aspects that the author told in the story. Would for sure read this author again!
