Great, colorful pictures in this book. Helps show children that everyone is different, and that is okay.
Another terrific book by the American Psychological Association’s Magination Press, this one on diversity. Includes a helpful Note to Parents and Caregivers. Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC; opinions are mine. Pub Date 14 May 2018.

This book is beautiful in all its simplicity and meaning. The main character is a little girl who is fascinated by the colors of nature. She thinks that the diversity of colors is what makes the world beautiful and interesting. Without them, the world would be monotonous and boring.
Then she relates the diversity of colors in nature with people. People also have different colors. It's this diversity that makes them beautiful and unique.
Her parents are of different colors. Her mother is white with light straight hair and her father is dark skinned with dark thick hair and brown eyes. From these mixed-race parents is born a child lighter than her father but darker than her mother. And beautiful in her own way.
I love this story because it's my family story. My husband comes from African ascendents and I'm white. We have three beautiful kids but only the older daughter shows clearly the merging of our two races. This makes her an exotic unusual beauty. She looks like Disney's Princess Moana. Even her name is a mix of my name and her father's. All our sons are proud of their heritage. Some of their many cousins are blond with fair skin. Two are from both African and Indian heritage and others are black, dark-skinned, with curly hair. We have a beautiful, big and united family. Our family parties are a diversity show. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
This is also an extremely useful book. In the end, there is a section that teaches parents to talk about race and different skin tones with their small children.
Graphically, the images are colorful, full of flowers and happy faces smiling. They fill the whole pages giving more protagonism to the images that the text, that is short but conveys efficiently the idea.
More than useful, I think this book's message is a necessity. That's a beautiful book with a pressing lesson.
An absolutely stunning children's book about the importance of diversity in the world and treating everyone the same. Such an impressive read.

As a member of a biracial, bilingual, bicultural family this book has an excellent message for families like ours. I loved how the story has both Spanish and English words throughout. The illustrations are beautiful and colorful. The book is about diversity, identity and the dynamics of race, ethnicity and culture. It discusses the different colors of skin and that they are all wonderful. It is a great message to read to our kids and let them know it isn’t wrong to notice that people have different color skin. It can be a positive and can be celebrated.
This was a wonderful children's book to read. I read this book to my son and he really enjoyed it. The story is being read from the point of view of a young interracial child about what color means within the dynamics of race, ethnicity, and culture. This sweet, simple story discusses the colors of the world and the colors of the people in a family. Being interracial myslef I felt this story was very touching and lovely. I really liked the story myself and loved reading it to my son.
This books celebrates the diversity of family! Families are all different and equally beautifully composed! Diverse families are Maravilloso! We are not all alike and it is our differences and uniqueness that make the world the special place that it is! This book sends the message to children that they are beautiful just the way they are, and who they are is exactly who they were meant to be! When families love one another that is all that counts!
A wonderful book that discusses the colors of people’s skin. That all colors are different and wonderful. That all families are wonderful no matter how they look, even if each member is a different color. A fantastic book for biracial families, or for showing biracial families in a realistic light.
This sweet and colorful story focuses on a young girl explaining the diversity in her own family as she more broadly explores the bright and colorful world around her. It's a positive book about celebrating the beauty around us. The use of color in nature to support her point is very well done as carried out through the illustrations. The injection of Spanish words and phrases flows easily with the text, broadening a Spanish vocabulary for non-Spanish speakers. This would be a good addition to the public, school or class library at the elementary level.
I liked the simplicity and positivity of “Marvelous Maravilloso.” The note in the back was interesting, too!
I was so excited when I heard that this story was coming out. It is so important in today’s society to give our children books that show different family groups. It is a beautiful look at one young girl’s interracial family. I love that the book begins with the girl talking about all the beautiful colors that are all over the earth. She goes on to share her love of her family and their differences in color and culture. I absolutely fell in love with the simple and beautiful way that readers are introduced to different cultures and skin colors. There is a sprinkle of Spanish words throughout the story which allows readers to get a glimpse of the Spanish culture. The authors note in the back of the book discusses the importance of teaching children about culture and about celebrating the different kinds of people and families there are in the world. A must read for all classroom and home libraries.
This story is about the beauty of the colorful world. A young girl marvels at the beautiful colors in the world. She and her father go for walks to view the flowers and other things in nature. She comments how boring the world would be without colors to make it pretty. The story then transitions to how diverse people are in the world and in her own family. She talks about the color of her mother, father and herself and they are all beautiful. A wonderful book about diversity and bi-racial families. I liked the smattering of Spanish throughout the story. The illustrations were wonderful; simple, colorful and definitely added to the story. A wonderful book for schools. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via netgalley.
This children's book delved into the beautiful diversity of interracial families; I still dream of the day such narratives do not centre whiteness but they are unlikely to come from the APA though.
Children will ask questions. They want to know about their family in relation to other families. They want to be sure that what they are is "normal" and they want to know why they might be a different color than either parent.
In this colorful picture book, the little girl relates how everyone is different, the way that flowers are different, and that is ok, because the world would be a dull place if everything were just gray.
The illustraions of this book are as bright and colorful as flowers.

It is wonderful that this book explains, in very simple terms, what differences there are in people, but how that is fine, and beautiful
