"All Linda wants to do is sleep. She won’t look at her husband. She can’t stand her daughter. And she doesn’t want to have this baby. Having this baby means moving on, and she just wants to go back to before. Before their family was torn apart, before the blame was placed."
I loved this book, with it's three sisters and the whole fragmented connection between them all.
The writing of letters to Phoebe by Esme for Bea was a brilliant idea and some of the content in them broke my heart.
This book broke my heart and put it back together again. Brilliantly written, beautifully earnest and heartfelt. It was a pleasure to be immersed in the characters and how all of the pieces came together. Honest and tender, recommend!
This was an interesting read by an author that I was not familiar with having never read their work before. I always enjoy a new to me author and I wasn’t disappointed.
I found the characters interesting and really had a depth to them with lots of details described for me to portray them in my mind and really get inside them.
The story line took me to a place I wasn’t expecting and kept me intrigued right until the end.
I would recommend to anyone interested in this genre and will be reading more.
This is an incredibly difficult read due to the emotional, distressing plot. However, it is so worth the pain. The first section in particular had me in tears at multiple times but it was beautifully written and Pearson captures the feelings and pain well. The second part of the book is still a difficult read but it contains more hope and love.
The characters really make this book. The family are broken but you can still sense their familial bond and I liked getting to know them.
I was captivated by this read. Yes it is a very difficult read but this is where the true power lies.
Thank you to NetGalley and Agora Books for an advance copy.
This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended
Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!
Let me be honest. I wanted to read this based on the cover. When I finished, I was like what the heck did I just read! Wow! Heartbreaking, gripping, intense.
Following a tragedy all Linda wants to do is sleep. She doesn’t want to have the baby, can’t stand her daughter or look at her husband. The baby means moving on and all she wants to do is turn back time to before that awful day. The family grow up together but apart never talking about the secret. Bea finds out she’s pregnant and wants to know what happened that fateful day 25 years ago but will she be able to get her remaining family to open up.
This book had me gripped within the first few pages. One of the first books in a long time to do that. I couldn’t put it down as it was so gripping. I highly recommend this book and would happily read it again.

This sad story underlines the huge impact and long term effects the death of a young child has on a family. The actual details are not revealed immediately and this makes you want to keep on reading to find out. Cleverly and beautifully written, giving everyone's perspective, this is an emotional read. Thank you to Laura Pearson, Net Galley and Agora Books for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I felt like i was in the book, that is how good the writing is and the characters come alive. I enjoy books like this immensely. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the arc of this book in return for my honest review. Receiving this book in this manner had no bearing on this review.
Unfortunately I just could not get into this book. It may be one for other readers, but I was unable to finish it.
Thank you to Netgalley for giving me a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I wasn’t able to read this book when it was first gifted to me but after reading the hard copy I am adding my review here.
My goodness, what a rollercoaster of emotions. If you love a book that will make you cry, grab the tissues! This one is for you! Pearson did such a wonderful job creating this story, each character and their emotions felt so real to me. I know I will be thinking of this book for a long time to come.
Missing Pieces is an emotional and beautiful debut by Laura Pearson. A terribly sad tale of traumatic loss and its impact on a family
A devastating mistake with a lifetime of consequences. Wow. I really enjoyed reading this debut by Laura Pearson.
The task of repopulating the senior library has been an exciting and daunting task aS in a boarding school our aim is to encourage all members of the community to read. Because of this, I have been searching down a wide and diverse range of books to read that will entice a wide cross-section of the school to come in, browse and find books that they love.
Books like this will ensure that the senior students in the school see the library as a diverse, modern and exciting place with books that speak to them and they want to recommend to their friends, classmates, teachers and tutors.
It is an engrossing and exciting read with fully-formed characters and a plot that ensures that it's hard to look away. It is as far from formulaic as it is possible to be and kept me up far too late in order to finish it. I immediately wanted to read all of this writer's other books as I loved their voice and found that it really drew me into the story and made me think about it even when I'd stepped away from this tale.
This is a thought-provoking read which I'm sure will be a popular and well-read addition to our new library; I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to read it and I know that the students are going to absolutely love it too!
A very moving novel about the loss of a young child and the tragedy around this. Told through multiple narrators and also different times, it shows how it also affects the next generation. A difficult read at times, but definitely worth a read.
Thanks to NetGalley for the copy of this to review.
Beautiful book that deals with the loss of a child in such a sensitive way. It explores it through the parents and then, twenty five years later, through the sister who needs to make sense of it all. A lovely read.

For some reason I thought that this was a thriller book. As it is, I’m not sure how to categorise it. Linda is expecting a new baby. It will be her third daughter, that is until the worst happens. Linda is devastated and struggles to cope with new baby Bea.
Twenty-five years later Bea is pregnant herself and determined to find out the truth about her family’s troubled past before having her own child. I enjoyed the book, especially Bea’s growing relationship with her sister, but overall the plot moved a little too slowly. There were sections where not much happened at all.
Not the easiest of reads, this story follows a family in the aftermath of a devastating tragedy- the death of a 3 year old. It’s heartbreakingly emotional and best read with a full box of tissues at your side.
