Murder with Cinnamon Scones is the second installment in Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery series but can be read as a standalone.
True old fashioned cozy mystery where main character Daisy and her aunt are running a charming tea shop in Amish country. Everyone is busy getting ready for the quilting festival hoping to attract turists and bring money to the community. But when local gallery owner ends up dead her friend Tessa is the main suspect. Not only was she dating him, his body was found near the bridge where Tessa sketches. Daisy will do anything to prove her friends innocence.
Lovely portray of Amish culture and way of life. I have to say I enjoyed characters, they are real and well developed. Story is nicely paced. I appreciated the fact that family dynamics, realationship and even romance are well presented. Cleverly plotted it will keep you guessing till the end.
Murder With Cinnamon Scones by Karen Rose Smith is a 2018 Kensington Books publication.
A perfect cozy mystery!!
As the town gears up for the onslaught of tourists expected for a quilting event, Daisy is shocked by the murder of Reese Masemer, the man her good friend, Tess, had been dating. Daisy had no intention of poking her nose into the investigation, but when Tess becomes the primary suspect, she puts on her sleuthing hat once again to keep her friend from being charged with murder.
In the meantime, Daisy is worried her oldest daughter is getting too serious with her new boyfriend, while her own romantic prospect hits a disappointing snag.
This second installment in the ‘Tea Garden Mystery’ series, builds upon a sturdy foundation, becoming more solid and secure as characters develop a bit more and the location becomes more vivid. But, of course, we all showed up for a murder mystery, and this one is a real head scratcher.
This is a series I think I could settle into long term. Daisy is a character I could really grow to love, as she is more ‘mature’, and the issues she copes with are realistic and easy to relate to. I love the supporting cast, and their interesting and compelling relationships. The romance is just little angsty, working on a slow build up, which is nice, as well.
The mystery kept me on my toes and guessing from the start all the way to the nail biting conclusion! I loved the way this story ended, and enjoyed the awesome recipes included with the book. You really must try the cinnamon scones- they are to die for!!
4.5 stars
A great follow up to the first book in the series. Delightful characters that continued to evolve and I look forward to seeing what happens in the next book and beyond. Fun mystery that wasn’t too easy to solve that had me turning the pages as fast as I could to find out who did it.
Such a fun cozy mystery! This book has a sampling of everything that fans of this genre love: Great setting in a tea shop; a strong, smart heroine; quirky, memorable supporting characters; an interesting storyline and intriguing mystery; and the beginnings of a romance. This is a clean, sweet mystery with no bad language or embarrassing scenes. There’s also some good recipes at the end of the book. This was the first book I’ve read by Karen Rose Smith. I’ll look forward to following her characters through the series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
A good second instalment in this series. There is a lot of character building in this book as their relationships and personal stories are developed.
Sometimes the mystery takes the back seat to the human side but it's a fascinating reading and I really liked it.
The mystery it's very good and kept me guessing till the end.
I look forward to read the next instalment.
Many thanks to Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange of a honest review.
A delightful, typical cozy mystery. A friend is wrongly suspected of the murder, so the protagonist has to solve the crime. She puts herself in danger unwittingly. Interesting characters and side stories. A charming small town with close relationships.
Quilt lovers weekend should have been a great opportunity for the merchants in Willow Creek- especially Daisy who is still working with her Aunt Iris to build up business for their bakery. Alas, there's a robbery and then- worse- Reese, who has been dating Daisy's friend Tessa- is found dead and Tessa is a suspect! She didn't know why Reese had been acting oddly lately but then she didn't know his secrets. What sets this apart from the usual cozy are the warm and interesting family relationships, especially between Daisy and her daughters. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a delightful second entry into the series- but you don't need to have read the first one to enjoy it. Thumbs up!
I received this ARC from netgalley in return from an honest review.
This is the second title in the Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery Series. I am thoroughly enjoying this series. As a Cozy Mystery Lover, I enjoy a light story with a possible budding romance and several twists and turns. This series and this installment do it all. I enjoyed this one as much at the first.
A little catch up, Daisy is a widow and mother of 2 girls that moved back to her small hometown and opened a tea shop with her Aunt Iris. In both novels, someone Daisy is close to is accused of killing their loved one. The typical small town investigator is lazy with a chip on his shoulder. He just wants to pin the charges on the easiest target. Daisy, along with her friend Jonas ( a retired police officer), set out to prove the him wrong and help solve the case.
What I enjoy about this series a little more than some, is that Daisy isn't out there putting herself directly into harm's way. I mean, of course she finds herself in compromising positions, but not like some other cozies. Also, in both of the books, I didn't know who the murder was until the parts of the books.
Highly recommend for cozy lovers. Also, the scone recipes look sinful!!
This is book #2 in the "Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery" series and I did not read book #1. I don't feel like I missed much without reading the first book and Karen Rose Smith did a good job of recapping to keep the reader up to date.
Overall, this was a good read and I can see why it's a popular mystery series. I think the plot and writing were well done and I did enjoy the characters. Daisy is a great main character that's very likable as well.
I'm just eh, with the whole tea and scones thing, which is Daisy's business, so I understand why this topic is discussed so frequently. Will likely continue reading this series.
*** Special thanks to NetGalley, Kensington Publishing, and Karen Rose Smith for providing me with an advanced read copy in exchange for an honest review. ***
I finished Murder with Cinnamon Scones by Karen Rose Smith on Mothers Day. This is a lovely cozy about a tea room and with a truly complicated and winding mystery. I did not have it figured out at all! I loved the characters, the setting and the relationships, those that felt easy to understand and the more complex family dynamics. This one is published by Kensington , and is out May 29th!
A cute cozy mystery! :) It was a quick read, the mystery was intriguing and the characters were fun to read about. I would recommend this series to fans of cozy mysteries.
It's January, and Daisy Swanson and her fellow merchants in the lovely town of Willow Creek, Pennsylvania are preparing for the Quilt Lovers Weekend. Reese, the boyfriend of Daisy's best friend Tessa, is found murdered in his art gallery and Daisy must work to uncover who did it and why, as secrets come to light and relationships are discovered to not be what they'd seemed. Warm and fuzzy and cozy all at once, this delightful mystery will keep the reader entranced from the first page to the last. Murder with Cinnamon Scones by Karen Rose Smith is very highly endorsed by this very satisfied reader!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and it made me hungry to read more in the series. Although there are other books with baking/cooking themes this one struck me differently and I couldn't wait to keep reading.
This is a fair and honest review. The book was given to me by the publisher.
Murder with Cinnamon Scones is the second installment in Karen Rose Smith’s Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery series and is an enjoyable read, with a great cast of realistic characters and an intriguing murder mystery with lots of twists and turns and possible suspects. The storyline is well plotted, the characters well developed, and the story moves at a steady pace. There’s a perfect mix of the importance of family, friendship, caring and compassion, romance, and mystery. There are lots of twists and turns and red herrings to keep the reader engaged. Ms. Smith provides great character background and this book can be read as a standalone. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading clean cozy mysteries.
Daisy Swanson is a widow and she and her two daughters moved back to the small town of Willow Creek, Pennsylvania, to be near family. The quaint tea garden, Daisy’s Tea Garden, she co-owns with her aunt, Iris Albright, is doing well. Daisy worries about her daughters; Jasmine, who’s in high school, is adopted and has recently connected with her birth mother, Portia Smith Harding, who hasn’t told her family about Jasmine, and Violet, who’s away at college, is dating, Foster Cranshaw, one of the tea garden’s employees. Daisy’s been seeing Jonas Groft, a retired detective and owner of Woods, a handcrafted furniture store, but she feels something is wrong and is concerned about where their relationship is headed. Daisy’s good friend, Tessa Miller, is the chef and kitchen manager at the tea garden and a talented artist who’s been dating Reese Masemer since her October show in his gallery, Revelations Art Gallery. Daisy’s been working with other local merchants to promote the upcoming Quilt Lovers Weekend and the festivities are expected to bring much needed revenue into town. Reese, who was also involved in the planning of the upcoming event, is murdered and Detective Morris Rappaport looks at Tessa as the prime suspect. Daisy didn’t plan to get involved in the investigation, but she can’t sit by and do nothing while evidence piles up against Tessa. She believes someone is trying to frame her friend, and is compelled to search for clues and point the authorities in the right direction. Daisy uncovers secrets about Reese and finds herself in harm’s way.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
'Murder with Cinnamon Scones' is the first I have read in Karen Rose Smith's Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery series, and it was delightful. The setting in Pennsylvania Amish country is inviting, the characters are all believable and the mystery is excellent. I will look forward to many more visits to Willow Creek, PA.
I love the Tea Garden series. Smith's descriptive writing style pulls you in and helps you to feel as if you are right there in the mix of characters. I love the descriptions of the food and the tea room. I also love the recipes at the end of the book. The characters are rich and full and the plotline is smooth. There were lots of suspects in this one and I really didn't figure this one out. It definitely kept me turning the page. Love this series and hope there are lots more in this series..
Daisy and Tessa are looking forward to the upcoming Quilt Lovers Weekend, an event that is being sponsored by several of the town businesses, including Daisy's Tea Garden. But when Tessa becomes the main suspect in the death of artist Reese Masemer, Daisy knows she has to investigate to clear Tessa's name. With a host of possible alternatives, including Reese's ex-wife, his teenaged son, and a mysterious figure from his past, Daisy has her work cut out for her. Of course, her own personal problems aren't helping her get to the bottom of this mystery, including the confused state with possible boyfriend, Jonas. This was an enjoyable mystery, full of clues and twists. I also enjoy the family centered perspectives found in this story, including dealing with your first child off to college, dealing with an adopted child seeking to find their biological mother, dealing with a contentious relationship with your own mother, or just dealing with emotional insecurity in dating relationships. This is the second book in this series, and I look forward to more adventures with Daisy and Jonas. BTW: recipes including that for cinnamon scones are included at the end of the book. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reading copy of this book.
I usually avoid food centered books as then tend to make me way to hungry. I enjoy this one so much that breaking that pattern is fun. Such a fun series, love the characters and the multiple layers in the story. This one is staying on my to be read again list.
I received a free copy of Murder with Cinnamon Scones (A Daisy’s Tea Garden Mystery) by Karen Rose Smith in exchange for an honest review. This book is the sequel to Murder with Lemon Tea Cakes; however, it can be read independently with no trouble. Daisy Swanson is working together with other local merchants to promote an upcoming quilting event expected to bring much needed revenue into town. Reese Masemer, who owns the local art gallery and who has been heavily involved in the planning of the upcoming event, is murdered. Daisy becomes embroiled in finding the murderer when law enforcement focuses on Daisy’s friend Tessa as the prime suspect. Can the crime be solved without sabotaging the upcoming promotional event and without anyone else getting hurt?
The characters were likeable and the story progressed smoothly. This is a nice story for whiling away a quiet weekend.

This is a delicious, multi-layered mystery that should be savored along with a cup of tea and a scone. Daisy Swanson and her two daughters returned to her hometown of Willow Creek, Pa. after the death of her husband and she opened a tea garden along with her Aunt Iris. Daisy's best friend, Tessa, works alongside her as a baker. Tessa is dating Reese, the owner of a local art gallery, and when Reese is murdered and Tessa becomes the prime suspect, Daisy gets involved in trying to clear her friend. In addition to the mystery, there is a burgeoning romance for Daisy and Jonas, wonderful look at life in Amish country and how the Amish live along with Daisy's adopted daughter Jazzi trying to develop a relationship with her birth mother and how that affects the family. I loved this book from the first page to the last and can't wait to see what the future holds for Daisy.
