The Good
* This had some great funny moments.
* The supporting characters were all very well created and added a lot to the story. It was never just about the romance.

The Not So Bad
* Both main characters were likeable if not overwhelmingly lovable.
* The romance was sweet with a good build up but was rushed towards the end.

I love Renee Ann Miller so much.

This entire series of books is an absolute delight - the connection between characters, the emotion throughout.

Just lovely!

This was just particularly enjoyable--and so nice to find a new author in historical romance to read! There was just the right balance of humor/ridiculous antics & angst, and I had a lot of fun reading.

Clearly, Emma Trafford’s new neighbor is a lady killer—but is the scoundrel with the scar capable of murder? Emma can barely contain her precocious younger sister, Lily—the child swears she spied their neighbor engaged in foul play in his Bloomsbury love nest. But when Lily goes too far searching for “evidence,” Emma must save the imp by distracting Simon—with an all-consuming kiss rife with danger and desire.
This was a pretty good book that I really enjoyed. I liked the story and all of the characters. I found myself amused throughout much of the book. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I received an ARC of the latest in Renee Ann Miller’s Notorious Lords series and I am so thankful to have discovered a great new author for historical romance.

The way in which Emma Trafford meets Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler, who she only knows as Mr. Simon Radcliffe, is full of humor. Each side character that was introduced was endearing and added to the charm of the story.

I wish Simon’s stepmother got a little bit more of what she deserved but Simon’s happiness may have been the best revenge.

I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series and hope Miller keeps these historical romances coming!

Never Deceive a Viscount continues the Infamous Lords series and is another charming historical romance with witty dialogue between orphaned portraitist Emma Trafford who’s raising her brother and sister between painting session. Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler, is shunned by the ton because of his stepmother’s lies. Their romance hits a few bumps in the road (harrowing run-ins with loan sharks and a neighborhood break-in) but is true to the genre. It uses several romance tropes: the alpha male, mistaken identity, tortured hero, and jilted bride.

While I enjoyed the book, it annoyed me that the main plot point was miscommunication. If the characters had just talked instead of being scared, they could have dealt with all their problems very early on.

Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler, carries the emotional scars from his father's manipulative second wife and now trusts no woman. When he sends his current mistress away on holiday, Simon decides to reside at his Bloomsbury love nest for a change. What he doesn't expect is for thieves to break into the house, assault him and steal his signet ring. Determined to find the thieves, he has no idea that his neighbors, painter Emma Trafford and her little sister Lily were actually the thieves. Now it's a game of cat and mouse as Simon suspects Emma of the theft and will use everything in his power to make her confess.

This is the second book in the Infamous Lords series and Ms. Miller has delivered another wonderfully written story. I enjoyed it immensely and especially the outrageous things that Lily came out with. She almost stole the show. This story was a delightful change from the usual balls and teas most books of this type feature. I loved Emma's independence and her absolute commitment to her siblings. She was strong, yet vulnerable and her attraction to Simon grew over time. Simon needed a special kind of healing and the kind and loving Emma could be just what he needs. Can he put aside his mistrust for women and accept Emma's love for him?

Never Deceive a Viscount was an absolute delight to read with an amazing group of characters and a fantastic romance.

When her sister Lily claims she saw the new neighbor murder a woman, Emma Trafford believes the girl’s imagination (and love of detective novels) has gotten the better of her. After Lily breaks into the man’s house to find evidence, Emma must follow and get her out before she is seen. When the man himself unexpectedly appears, Emma distracts him with a kiss to give Lily time to get away. Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler is determined to catch the intruder who kissed him one minute and knocked him out the next, absconding with his signet ring in the process. When the trail leads to Emma, Simon aims to catch his thief but never expected to lose his heart in the process.

Following the deaths of their parents, Emma began working as a portraitist to support herself and her two younger siblings. Emma is devoted to her family and is determined to find a way to support them. Her relationship with Lily felt a lot like a mother/daughter relationship which was likely due to their age gap. After a disastrous end to a previous relationship, Emma doesn’t believe she’ll find love although she does dream of one day having a husband and children.

Simon is a bit jaded towards women due to his stepmother turning his father against him at age sixteen and having him cast out of his family home. Instead of finding a meaningful relationship, he goes through mistresses fairly quickly. When it comes to his friends and his staff, Simon is very generous and does everything within his power to make the lives of those around him better.

Emma and Simon’s relationship has the wonderful addition of a game of cat and mouse as each tries to discover the information they need from the other. Their relationship is quite flirty with a lot of banter and tons of chemistry between the two. Things progress a bit slowly between them, but it’s incredibly sexy when their relationship does begin to heat up. When the inevitiable separation occurs, it thankfully doesn’t last very long and gets resolved quickly due to Emma’s sister interferring.

We did get to see the characters from the first book in the series return which was wonderful. I’m always happy to see characters pop up again after they’ve gotten their happily ever after. There is a small side plot about a money lender that felt a bit out of place and I think the book would have been better off without it’s inclusion. That was the only small thing I didn’t like about this book as the rest is quite fantastic.

Never Deceive a Viscount was just as much fun as the first book in the series and I can’t wait to see what the author does next. I definitely recommend this series to anyone looking for a fun historical romance series to pick up.

Engaging regency romance where a younger sister provides the comedy and and older sister and viscount in hiding provide the romance. I enjoyed it and think you will too.

I received an ARC of this book, from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is a very entertaining story. After being robbed, Simon pretends to be a Mr. to track down the thief that kissed him, then stole his ring. He's a kind, caring man with a stubborn streak. And he's emotionally damaged, which leaves him determined not to trust any woman. Emma is strong, kind and generous. Having the responsibility of her two younger siblings has made her strong, especially having to deal with her little sister and her imagination. Simon's investigation zeroes in on Emma and he decides to catch her unaware and make her confess. He had no intention of falling in love, or having strange thoughts about Emma. Their cat and mouse game is amusing, romantic and sweet. All of the characters in this story are interesting and amusing, the butler and valet are hilarious. This is a must read that belongs on your TBR list.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.

Beautifully written complex characters and a engaging storyline made this book a pleasure to read. This was the first book I read written by this author. The chemistry between the hero and heroine is hot and I loved the heroine’s character that was strong and brave. Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

'Never Deceive a Viscount' has a charm that is appealing. The characters are as a general rule delightful. It is full of complicated family issues, some intrigue, a good measure of humor and of course, romance. I liked watching the characters develop, but was totally disappointed in the overt sexual descriptions. Those diminished an otherwise great story.

I loved Renee Ann Millers first book and this one is no different. Although this can be a stand alone book, it would really help to read the first one. The two do connect, this one picking up where the first left off.
This book stays with a "Rear Window " scenario. Emma's (our heroine) younger sister, Liliy (who virtually steals the show), is watching the townhouse across the street with her opera glasses, when she thinks she sees a gentleman, Simon ( our hero) killing his paramour.
This leads to Lily trying to investigate further and Emma tryng to keep her out of trouble.
This book had action from word one. It kept your attention thru out. I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to the next in the series.
As a side note, I know this is a book in The Dangerous Lord series, but I hope that Lily will get her own story someday.

A positively awesome and well written story! We have the heroine Emma Trafford who’s an aspiring painter with a massive distrust of men particularly peers. Being the sole guardian to her younger siblings she is determined to support her family through her painting.
Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler is a brooding damaged and very very sexy hero with secrets a plenty of his own. Through plenty of hilarious circumstances, some delicious to die for kisses and one very ambitious sibling for sleuthing keep Emma on her toes and in Simon’s lap!

I highly recommend this second book by Renee Ann Miller I enjoyed it immensely!
I recieved a complimanry copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest unbiased opinion.

Never Deceive a Viscount is the second book in the Infamous Lords series by Renee Ann Miller. It can be read as a standalone book.

Emma and her sister Lily share a home with their brother who is away at school. Emma is responsible for her younger siblings and she makes ends meet by being an artist. Her sister Lily while spying on her neighbour witnesses what she believes to be a murder. A lover of mystery novels she takes it upon herself to sneak into the man’s house to investigate. Fortunately, Emma realises what she is doing and follows quickly after her to bring her home.

Simon Marlton, Viscount Adler is their neighbour. What Lily suspected to be a murder was his mistress in the throes of passion. He has tired of her and as soon as they are done he sends her on a trip to Paris to buy some new gowns. She doesn’t realise he wants to end things so happily goes on her way. Seeing large trunks being put into a carriage, large enough to hold a body makes Lily even more adamant that a murder has taken place.

Unfortunately, Simon catches Emma moving around in the dark in his house and quickly tackles her to the ground thinking she is a lad robbing him. She fights him off and when he realises that she is a woman he is shocked. He is even more shocked when she grabs him and starts to kiss him! Sidetracked by the passionate kiss in such strange circumstances he doesn’t hear Lily sneak up behind him which she uses to her advantage by smashing a vase over his head knocking him unconscious.

When he wakes he is disorientated, and his anger turns extreme when he realises his family signet ring has been stolen from his finger. He is determined to find the woman and her accomplice to retrieve his ring and see them punished.

A big clue that his valet discovers is that the woman must be an artist because of the smell of turpentine left on Simon’s clothes from where Emma grabbed him. He sets about searching for any female artists in the area and when he finally meets Emma he can’t believe that she could be the one who so brazenly broke into his house, tussled with him and then kissed him so passionately. She is the only artist he has seen that is the correct height though, so he decides he must sit for her in order to spend the time he needs hoping to find out the truth.

During their sittings Simon doesn’t let on who he is, Emma believes he is just a wealthy gentleman. She also suspects he knows she is the thief that stole into his home and took his ring. It was Lily who took the ring. In her naivety, she thought it was proof that he was evil! Emma doesn’t know how she will be able to return the ring to him without being caught out, but she will cross that bridge when she comes to it. First of all, she has to complete his portrait without him sussing out who she is. A difficult enough task, but even more so when she finds herself reliving that kiss she shared with him, and wanting to kiss him again.

Simon is suffering from feelings of confusion too because even suspecting Emma is a thief he can’t get over his reaction to their kiss. How can he want to kiss her again when she could be the one who stole from him and only kissed him so that her accomplice could knock him out.

Both of them are so confused about each other but the more time they spend together the more they seem to be falling for each other. How can they have a future with the secrets that lay between them? How can they have a future if those secrets are told?

This was a really great story and I loved the characters. Emma had the weight of the world on her shoulders but struggled on without feeling a martyr. Lily was adorably daft with her crazy notions of Simon being a murderer. I laughed out loud at her antics. Simon, well what can I say about him? He is desperate for a family but won’t admit it to himself, thinking he can be satisfied with just keeping a mistress. It takes Emma to make him realise that he needs much more than just a woman to warm his bed! We get to see him act the hero which is just wonderful. Other characters that I loved were Emma’s cook who takes a fancy to Simon’s ‘man’ and woos him with her lemon tarts! Then there is Nick, a boy from the streets that Simon gives work. So many wonderful characters and such a beautiful story revolving around them all. I happily recommend this book.

What a gem! It took me some time to finally sit down to read this book. At first I wasn't so sure about the story line, and was having doubts on whether I may enjoy it. I am so glad I gave it a go.

I loved Emma and Simon's story! But what I think made it so engaging and satisfying was the supporting cast for their love story. The mess that Emma's little sister ended up getting them into was delightful. Simon's butler and valet were a hoot! I had some pretty laughed out loud moments when I can see the frustration in Simon and yet his appreciation for these two older gentlemen that had raised him and were his only family.

I enjoyed how Emma and Simon's love story evolved. It was steady and enjoyable!
I am looking forward to the next book in the series :)

Emma Trafford is struggling to make ends meet as the sole support of her two younger siblings. She paints to make a living for herself and her siblings. Lily, her sister witnesses love play at the Bloomsbury house and thinks a murder was committed or so she thinks. Lily sneaks into the neighbor, Simon's, house to look into what is going on and when Emma goes after her she encounters Simon. Emma seeking to distract Simon she kisses him and then runs.
Now Simon is determined to capture the thief. He remembers smelling a faint scent of paint spirits and the knowledge that his neighbor Emma is a portraitist. Now is Emma’s new neighbor a real lady killer or just a handsome scoundrel with a scar. Simon wants to keep his identity a secret to avoid another scandal. I love this cat and mouse game of this story and the witty banter between the characters. This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
