Although the writing bought a vivid imagery of a fantastic world and creatures, what stopped this from being a better read in my opinion was the clash of too many ideas.
It just made it a too complex.
Sometimes less is more

My email reply to a note from Mr. Briney asking if I had read his book that I had gotten months ago was something like:

"I did get your book through NetGalley but as far as I can see you didn't permit downloading from the site. Since I got the book only via Amazon's delivery service, it did not appear in my Digital Editions queue. It got lost and I didn't remember it at all.

After your email I tracked the book to one of my ereaders and gave it a whirl. You really really need a new editor. The text is full of bad sentences. For example, a nest of ants doesn't move. The ants near the nest can be seen to move, the nest stays still. My reading notes have comments on every page and I stopped reading after the first chapter.

Editors are worth their weight in gold."

I would now add, after looking up the book on Amazon, that the subtitle is silly.

I received a review copy of "Unproven: Unproven: When Technology Advances and Magic Evolves, No One is Safe" by Drew Briney (On the Fly Publications) through NetGalley.com.

Review: UNPROVEN

UNPROVEN is a visually and sensorily compelling epic fantasy, with tremendous world-building. I admired the feckless hero, Shadow, an apprentice mage whom everyone considers "not quite good enough," which is their perception, but not quite accurate. Shadow will endure all kinds of misery and insults to obey Earth, whom he serves. When Earth leads him to witness a feat of immense magic, before which even Earth itself tremors, Shadow discovers his psychic connection to the largest and most dangerous predators imaginable. He can read their thoughts and they can read his! Now Shadow can crumble under the contempt of others, or embrace his Gift and change destiny.
