Admittedly, I'm not sure if the issue was that I didn't realize these characters and story lines are part of two series, but I just couldn't connect at all. It's super short and I still gave up on it.

This was such a sweet book. I loved it! I'm a sucker for road trip books. I loved that The Hurley brothers were mentioned. This was a great addition to the Whiskey Sharp novels.

I did not finish this book unfortunately. I couldnt connect with the characters and writing even though I really wanted to since the premise seemed very much my vibe. I typically dont like to DNF any book and especially not those given as arcs. Thank you to the publisher for sending it to me. Still giving it 2 stars because the plot seems a good one.

This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and heroine. Gregori and Wren were well-written characters. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.

There have been glimpses of Gregori and Wren in the Whiskey Sharp series, but it had been a while since I first read their book, Cake, so I did a quick re-read just to get reacquainted. I’m so glad I did this! I had forgotten much of their story, and I fell in love with them all over again. In Sugar, a sequel novella, Wren and Gregori are six or so years into their relationship and planning to get married. Gregori has it all planned out, and honestly, his plans are amazing—romantic and luxurious, and totally swoon-worthy. However, fate has something else in mind, and Wren—the more spontaneous of the two—takes over the wedding and honeymoon plans. For me, the best part of Sugar was seeing a whole new side of Gregori. He’s always come across as the quintessential hot, brooding Russian. A temperamental, demanding, often surly and arrogant artist used to getting his way and with a love for the finer things in life. Wren, on the other hand, is more down to earth, with a great sense of humor and a tremendous sense of fun and adventure. After Gregori’s plans are thwarted, Wren comes up with a completely new plan, and even then, not everything goes as planned. But the two of them end up having a truly interesting and unique wedding and honeymoon. Gregori enjoys himself despite the less than ideal circumstances. This to me showed not just a new, charming side of Gregori, but made me feel his love for Wren and how happy he was to spend his life with her.

I really enjoyed Sugar! It was fun, romantic in an offbeat, quirky way, sexy, and yes, sweet.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

This was cute. I don't think I've read Cake, so I was playing a little catch-up, but these two were almost annoyingly sweet. The things Gregori said to her had me swooning and her upbeat attitude? Perfect. Those love scenes were nothing to sneer at either. A lot of heat and heart in one tiny package. A fun read from Dane.

I absolutely love Lauren Dane but this one didn't feel that connected to either series to me and I expected that it would. The romance was there and it was still sweet and sexy but the connection was lacking for me.

Great conclusion to the first book and their life as they begin their new life together and finding the happiness they dreamt of

Sugar is the sequel to the novella Cake. Remarkably enough, you can read one without the other, but why deny yourself the experience. Lauren Dane uses Sugar to move the lovely, fun couple from Cake six years into the future. Surprise, they are finally going to tie the knot! They have to journey by cat cross country, and we get to take the journey as well. This was such a balanced, complete, sexy read - my hat's off to Ms Dane. Her sense of fun, her passionate writing, and her compelling characters are why she's an auto buy for me!
I received my copy through NetGalley under no obligation

Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆
This is the second book in the series (duet?) and I would suggest that you really need to read Cake first. Even better, read the Whiskey Sharp books too, as they are all linked.

The romance was fun, but this opportunity to catch up with Wren and Gregori was too good to miss. There is a lot to be said for enjoying a couple who have gone through the hard stuff and are now properly together. It is low angst, high romance and passion. Their journey is fun and full of the things that they both appreciate, or appreciate for each other.

This is the perfect story for those of us who always want a little more :-) getting to see how happy ever after could turn out, rather than being an aspiration at the end of a novel. Thank you, Lauren Dane, for giving us this indulgence.

I love Lauren Dane. This cute novella set in the Cake/Whiskey Sharp universe follows Wren and Gregori through their wedding and honeymoon. Through awful hotel clerks and shopping in small towns, Wren and Gregori's love for each other shines through on every page. Sweet, sexy and satisfying, Sugar lives up to the title.

It was so great getting to revisit Wren and Gregori's romance. Readers who enjoyed Cake will love Sugar.

Full disclosure – I requested this ARC because I was thinking of the wrong couple. I thought this was a follow up to one of Lauren Dane’s other books, but I was incorrect. So I haven’t read Cake. But after reading this one, I think I’m going to go back and check it out.

Wren and Gregori have been together for six years by now. Gregori has asked Wren to marry him multiple times, but she turns him down every time. This time, however, ,she doesn’t. This time, she says yes. Which is perfect since Gregori has planned their entire wedding down to the minute, starting the next day.

I really liked these two together. Their chemistry is off the charts, and the way they balance each other is beautiful. Each of them knows their own weakness, and they have no problem letting the other step in and take over when they need to.

This story was pretty basic; pretty much just a couple on a road trip. There wasn’t a lot of drama or hijinks, it was simply a lovely way to catch up with a couple that (most of us) read and enjoyed the first time around. But I will read Cake. These two are super fun to read about, and now I want more of them.

Gregori and Wren wanted a romantic wedding of just the two of them in NYC. That didn't quite happen, instead quick wedding followed by a crazed road trip through Pacific Northwest and Midwest. I loved the quirky places they went to and the fun they had being with each other.

Sugar is a follow up novella to Cake by Lauren Dane. I somehow missed reading Cake, but have read related romances in the Whiskey Sharp series, so I did have a good understanding of the characters and their friends and family.

Bad-boy artist Gregori Ivanov wants nothing more than to marry Wren Davis. He’s asked her before—more than once—but she insisted on waiting until she’d established her own career. Now that the time is finally right, Gregori has one hell of a celebration in mind. Restaurants, museums and NYC luxury all the way…on top of all the newlywed sex they’ll be having. The universe, unfortunately, did not get the message. When their plane is grounded in Idaho, they’re forced to improvise a road trip to get back to Seattle instead of the romantic getaway Gregori painstakingly planned. But that they’re together is what’s important, and with giant roadside potato museums, funky galleries in towns with little more than two stoplights and some seriously great diner food—in between all the great sex—Gregori and Wren find a honeymoon as unique and memorable as their love.

Sugar is sweet, obviously. It is great fun seeing Wren and Gregori struggle with ruined plans. Wren is upbeat and willing to try anything. She is willing to make the best of anything and finds joy in some of the quirkiest roadside attractions. Gregori is much more stoic and grumpy, with a love for Wren and sweets that is unstoppable. I really enjoyed reading about the loving pair finding their way together and finding joy in moments that others might not. I liked how they compromised and find a path that makes them both happy. The conflicts are situational rather than threats to the pairs happiness, which makes the book a fun and easy read with plenty of humor and heat.

Sugar is a fun, feel good read with great character interactions and plenty of heat. This read is a great way to spend a fall weekend.

What a fun steamy read with just right amount of drama. Sugar pairs happenstance romance with undeniable attraction to two people who love each other for a sexy read to intrigue any type of romance reader.

Wren Has finally agreed to marry Gregori. Which is great since he has it all planned. But when mother nature and a broken plane derail his plans will he adapt?
Sugar by Lauren Dane is second in her Cake series. But if you have read her Whiskey Sharp series you will be familiar with Wren and Gregori. I loved seeing Wren and Gregori complete their love story. I love that Ms. Dane allowed Wren and Gregori to enjoy being together as they travelled home. I enjoyed seeing the joy Gregori took in making Wren happy, especially as she reciprocated. Their comfort and understanding of each other was so obvious. They fit. They enjoyed each other and the love they felt was abundantly clear. I loved seeing Gregori and Wren just be. And Ms. Dane showed us just how rock solid this relationship was even before the "I do's." I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved seeing Gregori and Wren together rolling with the punches. This was a quick read by Ms. Dane that continued the journey Gregori and Wren were taking. It was easy to keep up with even though this couple was just putting the icing on their relationship. It was well written and enjoyable. I look forward to reading more from this author.

A hot and steamy story ;) This is a very quick read that moves at a great pace. Great for a lunch time quickie!

This is a novella...an extended epilogue, really, featuring agregori and Wren have a spur of the moment wedding and honeymoon. The reader gets the wedding surprise and honeymoon, lots of honeymoon intimacy, and not much else. It’s been so long since I’d read the Cake books that this was a little hard to enjoy.

3.25stars--SUGAR is the sequel novella to Lauren Dane’s contemporary, adult CAKE romance story line focusing on artists and lovers Wren Davis, and Gregori Ivanov. SUGAR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalment is revealed where necessary but I recommend reading book one CAKE for backstory and cohesion.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Wren and Gregori) SUGAR fast forwards Wren and Gregori’s story approximately six years wherein Gregori’s latest proposal of marriage is finally accepted by our storyline heroine. Having set his marriage plans into motion, Gregori booked a plane from Seattle to New York, in the hopes of celebrating his wedding with his bride to be but bad weather derailed the plane on the way to the Big Apple, such that our couple rented a car and made the cross –country journey back home. What ensues is a sweet, tender and gentle look as a surly Russian artist as he gives into his new wife’s sense of adventure and fun.

SUGAR is a quick read; a romantic, sugar-coated story of one couple’s adventurous honeymoon and the stops along the way.
