Man, oh man, this was quite the fascinating read. Quick paced, this book was unlike other horror-esque novels I have read recently. Although I often steer clear of horror, this came across my radar as a book about clones. I can't remember why I decided to pick it up, as that was quite some time ago, but now that I've spent the time on it that this book deserves, I'm so glad I did.
Emma goes to a boarding school in Vermont (eek! books about Vermont!). It's a prestigious place, so while clones in general are under much scrutiny from the goverment, it's not a surprise to the students who attend Darkwood to find out that some of the more prestigious members of their community have been cloned. The six clones of Darkwood students arrive on campus at the start of Emma's Junior year. The relationships, both between clones and non-clone members of society are uncomfortable and eerie throughout the book, and the whole time I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the other shoe to drop. The sinister feelings pervaded almost every page.
I really enjoyed how the story continued to unfold, with Emma uncovering more and more secrets as she goes along. What secretive elements were obvious about the book were made up for by the actual twists and turns that I didn't see coming. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel, which was published recently in 2019.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was fine until the last couple of chapters where everything got kind of silly with a "twist" that felt kind of tacked on as a last minute thing and din't make sense when compared to the rest of the story. There was also WAY too much of "I'm a villain and let me tell you ALL about my villainous plan before I actually do anything" going on.

I was a HUGE fan of this book! It was a phenomenal take on scifi. I really enjoyed the mystery of the book. There were a few unexpected turns as well.

The Similars is Rebecca Hanover's first book and there are some very good parts! The world is interesting and the intersection of technology and ethics is a really great starting point for teen readers.

I've read a few stories about clones and like them, this one is a little on the strange side too! Despite the sci-fi aspect it mostly takes place an elite school which gives us the drama and angst of high school YA novels. There is some romance mixed in with mystery. Know there is a cliffhanger which will leave you wanting book 2!

I love everything about this book; the premise, the writing and, most importantly, the characters. Perfect for fans of Orphan Black and What Ever Happened to Monday?

Unfortunately unable to review THE SIMILARS by Rebecca Hanover since I wasn't about to read it before being archived. I would still like to read it at a future date.

I loved this book. It was refreshing and enjoyable with an engaging plot. A must read for fans of Scott Westerfeild.

I was pretty intrigued by The Similars right from the get-go. The idea of clones has always been fascinating to me, and reading about them in a high school setting made it that much better! Emma doesn't want anything to do with the Similars. She is more focused on the loss of her best friend Oliver--until she meets Oliver's clone Levi--and then she gets pulled into the dark secrets that surround her school and the clones. I cannot wait for the sequel!

The concept of this book had me hooked at the blurb and I knew I had to read it stat! Paired with the cool cover and potentially new plot in the YA verse this book seemed like a refreshing change,

The storyline quickly fell flat for me and I could not bring myself to love the characters or the concept. Emma is te main heroine who has lost her bestie and heart broken to see that he has been cloned. Emma does not trust the clones, especially te one who appears to have taken her bestie's place in the world. Until- wait for it- she falls madly in love with him. *Insert YA trope*

This book just was not for me. I hope that the author continues the series and does well. I would not necessarily recommend this title above some of te others that I have read this year but it was not completely terrible.

I'm sorry but I couldn't get into this and gave up on it. I didn't leave a review because I don't like leaving bad reviews unless there's something very wrong with the book.

While enjoyable, this one missed the mark that the concept/synopsis sold us. I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with this book other than it really does feel like the author got bored with her own plot half-way through.

I liked this a lot, even though it turned out to be very different than I was expecting. I would recommend it.

Where to begin? I always love it when I read a completely different book than what I normally dive into. Similars is one of those books that is definitely different. 6 families found out that their children were cloned without their permission. 5 were told. Now these 6 are in the high school where their originals are. This is the first time they are out in the open and not at the compound where they have been trained. One of the originals passed away three months prior and it is hard on everyone including his best friend. Even weirder when the originals parents comes to the school. But, things aren’t always innocent. Definitely some twists and turns and when you find out why they were cloned. Wow. Loved one of the twists at the end. I give this 3 1/2 stars upgrading it to 4.

The first half of this story kept you guessing.
Unfortunately the second half lost the plot with too many clichés of previous YA stories.
Overall this was disappointing as it could have been so much better.

The Similars was a wild ride -- clones, super powers, private school, friendship, romance, betrayal -- I can't wait to read the sequel! I am pretty sure I read this straight through in one day -- that's how compelling it was! Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read this title.

I really liked the idea of this book, six clones, boarding school but about 10% in I knew it wasn't going to work for me. The biggest problem for me was the main character Emma. Her responses to situations seemed wrong or without reason. There was a lot going on but none of it seemed to fit together, instead just random plot points

While The Similars was not for me I would try another book by Rebecca Hanover

Reading this book was weird for me, mostly because I haven’t read a book like this in a long while. I’ve been enveloped in a sea of fantasy and contemporary reads lately and YA dystopia was the farthest thing from my mind. But, here we are. While reading it I was reminded of all the things I liked about the genre, but also all the things I hated.

This book was a fairly enjoyable read. The premise was really interesting and the writing was quite good. The characters were also pretty decent and the story was overall entertaining. The issue I had was that it was a little too ‘Young Adult’.

If I had read this book at 16, I might have loved it. But, I’m a ripe old lady of 22, and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes at some points. Things were a little too convenient at times, a little too predictable. It felt at times as if things were happening just to keep the plot going forward. I also couldn’t quite relate to the charcters. They felt like archetypes with no deep or unique personalities.

There is also some romance going on between Emma and Levi and I just wasn’t feeling it. Like most generic YA, the romance seemed to come out of nowhere. It felt rushed and as though it only really occurred because Levi was Oliver’s similar and because the book needed some romantic tension.

Despite all that negativity, I gotta say, the story was pretty interesting. I wanted to know more of what was happening. I would recommend this book to younger YA readers, or people that unlike me, weren’t avid readers in the early 2010s when every book was a YA sci-fi/ dystopia.

3.5 stars

This went back and forth for me, but it was what got me out of another slump. I was interested in the premise, and there were enough little twists and turns and additions to the basic premise that it helped smooth over some of the bits that I found less interesting.

I am a little more than uncertain of what my expectations are for the sequel, but I do know that I will be keeping an eye out for it.
