I really enjoyed this book. I liked the whole concept of it and the way it was written. I liked both endings as well. I liked all the characters. Their friendships at the centre of everything held the book together and gave it continuity. This definitely worth reading.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy.
I loved this book. It is one of the best books I’ve read in years. This is the story of Liv and Nate and their group of friends from post graduate to early forties. It’s well paced and the characters rings true, they are flawed and unpretentious and encounter love, loss, addiction, relationships, children , family - all the big stuff we all deal with. And it concludes. And then the author writes it again making different decisions to see the impact these decisions have on Liv and Nate’s lives. And the second story is different, very different. It has been totally reimagined. I loved it loved it loved it. Read it. Tell your friends to read it. But it for them. I am!
A lovely book that writes the story of a group of friend from two perspectives based on a decision made by a member in the group.
I loved the idea of this book which is why I chose to read it and I really enjoyed the story. The group of friends that were the focal point of the story were relatable and I enjoyed the way this story was written and the path their lives followed.
I am sorry, but this was not a book that engaged me deeply. I found the dual story concept irritating. There's nothing wrong with it, the writing was good, but I really didn't become involved with the characters.
Thanks to Net Galley for a review copy.
Have you ever had to make an important decision? What would have happened if you had decided differently!! This book centres on this theme! As a hesitant decision maker myself I was instantly draw to this book intrigued by the story which unfolded. I loved the film sliding doors and I drew comparison to it and this book instantly.
Liv and Nat have been longtime sweethearts and have been married for years. Their relationship has lost some of its spark and with the millennium approaching they are facing the life changing decision of staying in their safe marriage and working on rekindling their romance or deciding to draw a line under it.
The book is divided into two parts. The first is without Nate and the second is with Nat so essentially it’s the same story told from each perspective. This was an interesting read because it did demonstrate how one decision can change the course of your life.
If only we could all read a book which would enlighten us on how our life changing decision will turn out best!! The book did engage me , pulling at my emotions at times. I recommend you pack this in your suitcase this summer . Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for my copy in return for an honest review.
With or Without you by Shari Low a five-star read that will make you look twice at your life. This book was a little like looking in the mirror for me, as I made a huge life decision and have looked back several times and wondered what if. I know for some people they will just see this as two similar stories being told in the same book, but I saw it as so much more. Shari Low always writes an amazing story, she has a way of sucking you into the story and making you feel like you are a part of it. Nate and Liv have a story to tell along with their friends they will make you read each page is your life being unfolded, each page holds a new possibility for you. This is a great read, and it’s perfect to curl up in the sunshine with or when the sun goes down with a hot chocolate and blanket. It will make you all warm and fuzzy on the inside as well as the outside.
An enjoyable read. Perfect if you enjoy films like Sliding Doors. Really enjoyed the first half of the book and worried that I wouldn't enjoy the second, due to already being familiar with the characters etc. However, its not just the big decision that is different, you get to see events play out from the characters perspectives in a different way. Not thrilling in a way that has made me immediately seek out more by this author but a decent summer read.
Have you ever wondered ‘what if’? Well, this book answers that question. Taking two sides of the same problem. I really enjoyed this, it made me laugh and cry alternately. I recommend it to everyone.
Life is full of what if’s and this book takes that premise and runs away with it.
Liv, 28, is married to steady Nate, but she feels that they are really just friends and she wants more from the marriage. Should she stay and make the best of the life she has? Should she leave to face an uncertain future which may contain the man of her dreams?
With this book you get two stories for the price of one – when Liv stays and when she leaves. A thought provoking book linking milestones in the alternative life of Liv.
How many times have you wondered how different your life could be if you had made one decision differently? I try not to dwell on this too much because it stresses me out. I don't feel like I have a ton of regrets, but the thought that my life could have been somehow better if I hadn't done this or it could have been worse if I had done that is almost too overwhelming.
Liv and Nate have been married for years, college sweethearts. On New Year's Eve, they are trying to decide whether to put their friendly marriage to bed or keep trying to rekindle their romance.
This definitely started the story off with a bang. I didn't read the description before starting it, which is super unusual for me because I like to know what's going to happen. But because I've loved all of Shari Low's books (they are a fave for vacation), I skipped it.
So reading the story of Nate and Liv, and their college friends over the next 20 years was thoroughly enjoyable, but it seemed like it was going quickly - probably didn't help that I was floating in the pool, completely relaxed in the sun. Then I realized that the second half told the story as if they had made a different life altering decision.
It was a great technique because it seemed like it would be the same story, but it was crazy how one decision had such a ripple effect on everyone's lives. These are just relaxing books for lazing in the summer sun. Perfect.
I enjoyed this story that focuses on Liv and Nate and their close circle of friends. If you enjoyed the film "Sliding Doors" then you will definitely want to get your hands on a copy of this book.
It's a quick read and the characters are all relatable in some way. I enjoyed the first half of the book more than the second, and I think that is because I already knew what was going to happen. For me the book would have been more engaging if there had been different consequences as a result of the decision Nate and Liv made on New Years Eve.
All in all though a great holiday read and my thanks go to the publishers and net galley for the advance copy in return for an honest review.
I've never read a novel by Shari Low and I certainly did like the way she writes. I really liked Liv and I thought it was really original to write about our fate, decisions, mistakes and the paths that our lives take along the years. I don't think it was one of my favourite reads this year, though. I found the story and characters too plain. The plot seems too perfect and the characters don't seem to develop throughout the years. It all seems to fall into place and everyone lives happily ever after. It just doesn't seem very real to me, to be honest. However, I loved some bits of the book because it made me think about life and the way in which our decisions mark the paths we take and that was really interesting.
I am an avid reader of Shari Low’s books, each one gives us something different and this one didn’t disappoint.
Liv and Nate have been married since college and their lives have become a little stale. On the eve of the Millennium they have made the decision to separate and although Nate would prefer to stay together and work things out Liv is unsure and her thinking is to go. The first part of the story takes us through their decision to go their separate ways and the second part as they continue their lives together.
We follow Liv, Nate and their friends through 20 years, and although the result at the end of both stories basically remain the same, I preferred the without part because their paths ended on a happier note than if Liv had stayed with Nate.
A good book which was an easy entertaining read which I would recommend.
An easy read but did get bored half way through . Predictable at times and just felt it needed something else.
Perfect If you don't want to concentrate on a book too much after a long day at work.
So this book is in two parts, the same story but tweaked. How a different decision can change the outcome of your future. Its an enjoyable book to read.
With or Without you is two stories in one telling how a different decision can affect your life. At the eve of the millennium Liv and Nate have decided to separate realising their marriage has basically just 'died' Liv wants to feel passion and excitement, Nate just wants to trundle along and not change the status quo, so the first half is the story of how their lives continue after the split.
The second is what happens when they stay together.
A refreshing angle and easy enjoyable read. I know which outcome I preferred but no spoilers here! Not sure I agree that everything is down to fate no matter what path one takes.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book honestly
Thoroughly enjoyed this and felt it was a great way of offering a story. The book is split into 2 depending on which path is picked. Only downside to the book is wanting to know what happened next :-)
This book is essentially two stories in one, or, if you're feeling less generous, the same story told twice in slightly different ways.
It all hinges on a big decision at the start of the millennium. Will Liv stay with boring husband Nate or leave him so they can both have a chance of finding a bigger love?
The first half of the book is 'without' and the second half is 'with'. Interestingly (or not), the small pool of main characters stays the same in each. The ramifications of the decision aren't as big as you might expect and this is where the book was missing something for me. The differences between each book are what are interesting (small realisations, spotting an affair, helping a friend, saving a life, creating life!) and there's not quite enough of it. Liv is often not particularly sympathetic and while main characters don't have to be, I found her frustrating.
Also, I felt the first half was the 'happier' one to me (not a spoiler as you may view things differently), and so I didn't particularly enjoy the book finishing on the 'sadder' version of Liv's life.
I got the feeling the author wanted to say that we all end up where we're supposed to (regardless of which way your big decisions go) - and what you think of that may affect how you feel about the book generally.
An interesting premise, but for me it didn't quite work.
What a great idea for a book to find what life throws at you and what path you eventually take loved the first half of the novel when Nate and his wife split up and enjoyed it from the other side when they stayed together a story of great friendship's in which the characters all came together in good and bad times a fantastic read
A delightful read, took me 8 hours to read, loved the characters, the story flowed from beginning to end and I loved how Shari wrote it from two perspectives, life really is what you make it.
