Found this book in the series really good and the characters were brilliant.
Love Damien Boyd books as his characters grow each time I read them.
This is already the 8th book featuring DI Nixon, and not having read the previous novels I didn't know what to expect, and honestly - this book kicked arse from beginning to end. Can't wait to start reading the previous books in the series! Recommended.
3 stars. Classic Detective story set in England. I did not realize when I requested it that it was #8 in a series. There were a few points when I was a tad confused but nothing that really interrupted the story.
It was good. Suspenseful.
Thank you #NetGalley, the publisher and the author for my free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Absolutely love Damien Boyd and I am never disappointed by his books. I only discovered him this year but I have managed to read all his titles. Fantastic detective series, looking forward reading his new releases
The first book in this series I've read and I found not knowing the characters made it difficult to follow some of the sub plots.
Cleverly written but slightly too complex for me in relation to the canals and business finance
Thankyou to NetGalley, Amazon Publishing UK and Damien Boyd for the opportunity to read an advanced readers copy of Dead Lock.
What a great book!! I really enjoyed reading this novel. The storyline was well written with plenty of twists and turns. I definitely did not see the end coming either. I loved the unpredictability of this story.
Definitely well worth a read.
Having read the previous half dozen novels, I had high expectations of this book. Boyd did not let me down.
I was slightly surprised by the opening to the book as I thought "blimey, it's not a Nick Dixon book" but the world was soon put to rights as Dixon swept in to save the day.
I love that Dixon has flaws, is a bit quirky and is a rebel at heart, as these all go to engage the reader with the character.
Boyd one of a few authors that I will read in advance for free (where possible), but will always go on to purchase the book as I know I will still enjoy it second, third or even fourth time around.
I thank the netgalley website and the Thomas & Mercer editions for this partnership.
Everything starts when the girl ten years old Alescha is missing, her mother is found unconscious her stepfather is wanted.
Shortly after a second girl is missing, Nick Dixon ends his vacation to resume and help on the investigation. Except that once dismantled a network they make a low profile to the police. It is certain that these two kidnappings are linked except for the other investigators.
A well-written book, filled with suspense and twists with endearing characters, eager to read the other volumes.
This book is part of a series, but my first book from Damien Boyd and I will be purchasing more!! I was able to read it as a stand-alone with no problem, but know that if I go back and complete the previous books, I won't be disappointed.
This book is about two young girls who are abducted and the team who helps to find out who and why? It was full of suspense and an excellent read. The ending is just WOW!! Looking forward to the next installment already!
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this wonderful book! All thoughts and opinions are my own. What a great author!! He really knows how to tell a drama packed story!
I had been patiently waiting for the latest novel from Damien Boyd, and when I got it I couldn't wait to get stuck into it.
Early on a cold Somerset morning, ten year old Alesha Daniels is reported missing by her father, a violent alcoholic. Her mother, a known drug addict, is found unconscious, but it’s her mother’s boyfriend the police are keen to trace.
As the hunt for Alesha gathers pace, a second local girl is taken, plunging another family into the depths of despair. This child is the Granddaughter of Roger Poland, Home Office Pathologist and friend of DI Nick Dixon .who is on holiday up the side of a mountain..
Cutting short his holiday, DI Nick Dixon races home to join the Major Investigation Team, but no sooner has he identified a network of local suspects than they begin to show up dead.
At odds with his superiors, Dixon is convinced the child abductions are anything but random, but nobody is prepared for the investigation to lead quite so close to home.. There are many twists and turns and false trails to this story, but Dixon and his unorthodox methods are soon hot on the heels of the perpetrators.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am now waiting for the next one. I wonder if Nick will have married his girlfriend Jane by then. We will just have to wait and see..
This was another good story from Damien Boyd. Plenty of pace, a good plot with missing children but just lacking in a bit more description. The setting is based around the canals of the West Country and it's history. A surprise ending and characters I can relate to. Thanks to Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.
I found it hard to get into the story at the start because of all the characters which seemed to be very alike but I'm glad I stuck with reading it. It picked up when Dixon joined the investigation and I hated having to leave the book down to go to work. Again it is my first book by this author and seeing as this is the latest in the series makes me want to read the rest.
Welcome to Book 8 in the DI Dixon series! Dixon is one of my favorite British fictional policemen- he's honest, brash, makes mistakes, but always thinks about his team. That same dedication applies to his cases, and this one is no different. it's a roller coaster read, with constant changes, that make you rethink who the true suspect is. And then the final chapter will leave you reading with your mouth open, as you realized you missed some clues along the way, like Dixon! I finished this one in one sitting, as I just couldn't put it down, I had to keep turning pages! Add it to the other 2 books today, and you're all set for some great vacation reading!
I've read all these books and it does help to read them in order but it works perfectly well as a stand alone novel. I love the relationship between Do Nick Dixon and his girlfriend DS Jane Winters which is refreshingly normal. The plot races along with an interesting twist and I read it in one sitting.
This is a new author for me and I will definitely be downloading the rest in this series. Two young girls go missing, not connected to each other or are They? Enter D I Dixon who has been brought back from his holiday to find the connection and bring the girls home safely.
There are plenty of red herrings in this book, and I did not find out who was the killer and kidnapper until the end.
This is my type of book, a really good read. Devoured in one sitting.
I would like to thank the author Damien Boyd, Amazon Publishing UK and Net.galley for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for giving an honest review.
This is my first read of this popular series featuring DI Nick Dixon set in Somerset, but I found it fine as a standalone. Nick is on holiday with DS Jane Winters in the Lake District when 10 year Alesha Daniels is taken. Jane works for the Safeguarding Unit, is familiar with Alesha, a girl well known to Social Services, closely monitored, and returns to help the police team under the leadership of Detective Chief Superintendent Deborah Potter. Alesha's father, Ryan, is violent and alcoholic, her mother, Tanya, is in a relationship with Kevin Sailes, on the sex offender's register, she is found unconscious with a syringe sticking out of her. Not surprisingly, this is a case that is the focus of intense media scrutiny.
Then another 10 year old girl, Harriet 'Hatty' Renner, from a middle class family is taken, and her anguished grandfather is closely connected to Nick, insisting that Dixon helps find her. Nick returns from the Lakes, as the team desperately try to find a connection between the missing girls. The team focus on a white van with fake number plates and the possible involvement of a paedophile. In a twisted story with red herrings, the suspects keep turning up dead, and the Renners bring in an offbeat clairvoyant. Jane's young troubled sister absconds from her foster parents home, hitching a ride to turn up at Jane and Nick's home, with Jane determined to help her turn her life around. Will Nick and Jane be able to find and save the missing girls?
This is a well written and well plotted police procedural, a great addition to what is a well established series and characters. I loved the way the police team worked, the relationships between them, and how Nick and Jane work out the small niggles in their obvious journey towards marriage. Nick is forensic in his approach to evidence whilst deploying his strong intuitive sense to make the leaps in progress that the investigation needs to make the breaks required to get closer to the truth. All in all, this is a great series with great characters, I really enjoyed reading this novel and found it compelling and entertaining. Many thanks to Amazon Publishing UK for an ARC.
One child is missing and the mother is a drug addict and the father is a drunk. Definitely not a helpful mix. You’d think maybe someone they know would be response and then another child comes up missing. This is your typical mystery book which I appreciate and love. It gets me like love stories. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to review this book. Can’t wait to read more!
Dead Lock is the 8th book in the DI Nick Dixon series and as with all the others it yet again proves to be a just as good if not better.Nick is called back from his holiday in the Lake District when a young girl goes missing and then also the granddaughter of his friend and pathologist Roger Poland. His partner DS Jane Winter is back to help out and Monty the dog as always ! in a case that is full of twists and turns until the unexpected ending.Having read all 8 books in this excellent series now i would recommend anyone who enjoys this genre to dive in and read the lot, preferably from the beginning though so you can get to know the characters.Yet again another 5 star read from Damien Boyd.
Very well written. This thriller was very in depth and will keep you interested from start to finish. Very descriptive book you will enjoy again and again
This was my first introduction to DI Nick Dixon and his girlfriend DS Jane Winter. It is an engrossing story of deceit, blackmail and murder spanning many years which held my attention right to the end. The book is almost one of two halves. Initially one of the investigation of two child abductions with all the imagined horrors associated with this, then moving onto the real plot behind them. The main detective characters are actually away on holiday at the start of the book, giving the reader a chance to learn more about the rest of the investigation team before our heroes are brought back to help solve the crimes. The story itself is quite fast paced with well described and likeable characters who you start to care about and with a little bit of canal history thrown in for good measure! Don’t worry about where the prologue fits in – you won’t find that out until very near the end, together with a note from the author. I can highly recommend this book and I am now looking forward to catching up with the first seven books in this series.
