The premise of the book is great and the author really delivers. Great read. Highly recommended. .
I loved this book! Written by Mr. Delff, he parallel stories in his life with Dolly's life and beliefs. Just when I thought I couldn't love Dolly Parton anymore, this book sealed it. Discussing Dolly's childhood, her partnership with Porter Wagner and her courtship and secret marriage to husband Carl at the age of 20 (against music producers advice). The author talked about Dollywood and taking risks in life. Great read!
This is a fine book. It is not extraordinary. It's the author's interesting take on what he has heard about Dolly Parton's faith. It isn't the kind of book that would meet my needs but it is an interesting idea.
Dolly Parton is one of my favorite people on this earth and has been since I was a child. She is an icon of happiness and faith, who understands what matters in life and doesn't forget her roots. This book shows how Dolly isn't afraid to share her faith and love of God, even when it's not so popular to do so in today's world. Very inspirational!
I enjoyed reading this novel by Dudley Delffs. I can, however, state that I feel as if the title of the novel is a bit misleading. The author has not met Dolly Parton and all of his information is done through research. I feel that the spiritual faith of a person is very private. This author should have used a different title in order to clearly write this novel. I did enjoy his insights not only into his faith, but that of Dolly Parton. Dudley's writing style is very interesting and easy to read. In this day and age it is very inspiring to see an author so dedicated to his faith.
Anyone who knows me knows I am a big Dolly Parton fan. But, can I fill you in on a little secret? I don't love her because of her music. I like her music enough, but I really just love who she is as a person. So, naturally, when I saw there was a book about her faith, I jumped at the chance to read and review it. And, it didn't disappoint!
"When I talk about the spiritual role models in my life who continue to inspire me, most people laugh or raise their eyebrows when I include Dolly on that list. But why not? In a world filled with so much turmoil, division, strife, and conflict, Miss Dolly models a kind of Christian faith that manages to be authentic, positive, hopeful, and contagious." - From The Faith of Dolly Parton
The Faith of Dolly Parton is part biography, part author memoir, and part devotional. In addition to learning about Dolly's life and her spiritual beliefs, the author intersperses the stories with personal stories of his own. I loved that the author is a forever fan of Dolly and that his love for her shines through in his own life stories. Then, at the end of each chapter, the author provides several faith-based questions, as well as a song to listen to based on the chapter theme, and a prayer. For a Dolly fan, I loved this format. I appreciated how the author made the book not only a standard biography, but he also made it a book that can work as a devotional of sorts.
I loved learning new things about Dolly's life in what I felt was a quick and easy read. I especially liked how often the author referred to Dolly's own quotes. She is funny and smart - and she knows how to use both to her and everyone else's benefits.
If your only knowledge of Dolly is her unique body shape, then you are missing out. Dolly has made a difference in her home state of Tennessee over and over again, and she continues to make a difference through Imagination Library for kids around the world.
If you love Dolly like I do, then you will enjoying starting your morning with this one. Happy reading!
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with this copy to read and review!
Thank you! I learned so much about Dolly Parton.
Very interesting angle on the book from the author.
The Faith of Dolly Parton by Dudley Delffs
I am such a big fan of Ms. Parton that I had to have this book. It did not disappoint at all...I love everything Dolly so this was a great inspirational book.
The Faith of Dolly Parton: Lessons from her life to uplift your heart by Dudley Delffs is an inspirational read. It delves into Dolly’s life and shares lessons from her experiences. I was surprised to find out just how much Dolly’s music is influenced by her life. One of the first stories shared is about Dolly’s humble beginnings. Her Coat of Many Colours was inspired by an incident that occurred during this period of her life. This song is beautiful and knowing that it was inspired by actual events makes it even more special.
Through each chapter, the author shares a lesson from Dolly’s life. He then relates it to his own life and in some chapters; he shares his personal experiences. The lessons are diverse and applicable to all of us. One that I really liked was on getting out of our comfort zones. In this chapter, the author shared his own experience and also Dolly’s about making risky moves to follow dreams. He challenges readers to consider their own situation and this is what I did. I don’t know if I would leave my job right now to follow my dreams though. I know I would be ten times happier if I did but it is still scary. It was still nice to get some inspiration from Dolly and Dudley.
Each chapter ends with a lesson, a song, scripture and prayer. I really liked this book and thought it was very well-written, inspiring and relatable. Although it has a number of Christian teachings, it also has life lessons that I believe anyone can apply in their lives. Dreams, ambition, courage, love do apply to all humans, right? What a beautiful read!
Ive always been a big fan of Dolly and this book made me an even bigger fan, (If possible.)
Love how Delff's weaved his own story in with hers.
Great refreshing read.
I have always loved hearing the songs from Dolly and this book is just wonderful! This book paints a picture in your head that Dolly is just like everyone else. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves Dolly Parton!
I am enjoying how the author is weaving their own story while telling Dolly’s. It is nice to not have just another biography on a well known person. The thoughtful pieces at the end of chapters are s nice touch.
