I liked this book, it moved along quite quickly. Bianca was a wonderfully strong heroine, with Cage being perfect for her. If you enjoy a good shifter story, complete with yummy Alpha men - this is for you!
This is the second volume in the Bravo Team Wolves series of which I read and reviewed the first, When Danger Bites, when it was published last year. The idea is a special Marines Unit with only werewolves coming from the diverse packs of the country. Here we follow them on a rescue mission in the south American jungle to get back a little boy and a tourist kidnapped by unidentified people.
The story begins strongly as we discover directly Bianca trying to protect the little boy at the risk of her life, then the commando members intervene and free them. Just after that Cage realizes he probably bit Bianca when he attacked the man who was going to kill her and she may transform, and the soufflé deflates and never takes again.
Bianca isn’t a classical heroine, she’s been raised by parents members of Doctors without borders all over the world and she’s herself part of an international humanitarian organization. She’s not afraid to defend herself and once she tases the hero because she heard someone following her in the street.
Cage isn’t an alpha hero, he’s calmer and less domineering than those we’re used to in shifters stories. The attraction between them is immediate, even too much as Bianca is scarcely awake, still dehydrated and feverish, when she begins to notice Cage’s attractive body, but as they spend a lot of time almost alone together we see them getting used to the other and we see their feelings evolve.
As Bianca was mistreated and hit by the kidnappers, she’s got a cast on her wrist and several bruises on her face so there are a lot of reactions by people they meet, sympathy and attention toward her and hostility toward Cage. That was great and comforted me, but I’m afraid in real life people would much more look away than face a 7feet tall potentially violent boyfriend.
Unfortunately we have a quite classical story about two people very attracted by each other who get closer then intimate without really knowing each other while one of them hides an important fact from the other, with lots of repetitions in their thoughts – especially “I hope I didn’t really bit her”, “I hope she won’t change”, and “I probably ruined her life.”
I was waiting for something to happen, not just the apparition of Cage’s father – and there again a big hole as they have a tense relationship but we don’t really know why.
And finally we don’t really know why the child was kidnapped to begin with, we’re told it’s probably because he’s the son of a diplomat but as the kidnappers are all dead this subplot is never wrapped. Too bad.
Action, Danger, Romance…what a fun read!
This story starts out with lots of action and danger, which immediately pulled me in and made me a big fan of Bianca. She’s been forced to take a vacation from her job as a relief worker…and boom, she finds herself kidnapped with a diplomat’s son and fighting for both of their lives. I loved her selflessness, her ability to be pragmatic, and her resilience – especially when faced with adversity. Cage was all alpha wolf, but I also loved getting to see and feel his “softer” and romantic side when it came to Bianca. He’s immediately attracted to Bianca, so when circumstance has him needing to be in close proximity to her, there was no doubt these two were going to be steaming up the pages.
Although this book focuses mostly on just Cage and Bianca, we do get to interact with some of the other members of Brava Team WOLF, and I just loved the scenes with Kaitlyn (from book 1) as well as seeing Cage’s team help him untangle his mess. I also enjoyed meeting Cage’s father and loved seeing their relationship change as events unfolded.
I’m always impressed by Heather Long’s ability to write the emotions onto the page, and she once again so easily conveys the feelings within and between the characters. This story starts off fast-paced but does slow down a bit during the last half of the book, focusing more on the romance and relationships, but still had me turning the pages to see how things would finally work themselves out.
Kudos to the author for creating another great world for her wolves to play in!
Unlike a lot of romantic suspense stories, Bitten Under Fire opens up in the middle of the big action scene. Cage and Bianca meet when his unit rescues her from kidnappers in the Costa Rican jungle. I thought it was interesting how the story seemed to be flipped, but I found myself skimming during some of that rescue mission. I didn't really get into the story until they got back home to the suburbs.
The tension in Cage and Bianca's relationship, on the other hand, is exactly what you'd expect. How many shifter stories have you seen where the hero doesn't tell that the heroine that he's a werewolf, or werecat or werewhatever, and fears he'll lose her when she finds out? But I was sucked in by the chemistry between Cage and Bianca. They're just so charming I couldn't help but be happy for them.
One thing I thought was so novel about the previous book, When Danger Bites, was that the external conflict came from the military chain of command rather than the pack politics that you expect in a shifter romance. That's not the case in Bitten Under Fire. The threat of pack drama is there, but it never really manifests. In fact there's no true external conflict at all, just things they worry about momentarily. That should be a problem, but Cage and Bianca were just so cute together that I didn't really care.
We also get to see a little bit of Kat and Jax, the couple from the first book, and Silver who's that one easygoing pack member that everyone loves. Most of the other wolves aren't around much, which is another big difference from book one.
As much as I want to say there's nothing special about this story, I really enjoyed it. It's a pretty straightforward romance, but it made me happy. And there's nothing wrong with that.
Oh boy, this was great, mystery, suspence, action packed, I could not put this book down, I was engrossed from the first couple of chapters.
Having been kidnapped whilst trying to save a young boy, Bianca is accidentally bitten by a large wolf (Cage) during a rescue mission. Wanting to keep an eye on her to, i suppose, make sure she doesn't turn, Cage moved into the house opposite her.
That's all I'm saying, I'm a newbie with this author and I look forward to reading more from her
I received a copy from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving my own honest opinion
This is Book 2 in the Bravo Team WOLF series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. This is the first book of Heather Long’s that I read in a while. I will be going back and getting more of her books. It was so good. I can’t believe that it’s been a while since I’ve read her books. They are always so good. Bianca is forced to take a vacation and she goes to this resort. While there, the bad guys kidnap a little boy and she tries to save him and gets kidnapped herself. This is where WOLF comes in and we meet Cage. There’s some very exciting scenes in this book and the relationship between Bianca and Cage are great. Then there’s the scene between Cage and his dad, who just happens to be his Alpha. I wasn’t happy with his dad telling him, I’m your dad but I’m always your Alpha. See, I didn’t agree with that. Sometimes, Dad is more important than Alpha. But maybe that’s why I’m not an Alpha. In the end, it all came together and made me laugh and cry. The characters were all written so that you could easily see them living in the real world. I loved that. Now I must go back and read Book 1 so that I can be caught up with the story. Then the wait for the next book. I voluntarily read and read this book that I received from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Things didn’t go quite as planned on his team’s recent rescue. There might have been a little slip up on his part, but he’d keep an eye on the situation. Yeah, Cage might be keeping an eye on Bianca but his heart knows an entirely different reason as to why he moved in across the street… and why he simply cannot resist this lovely lady with the brave heart.
I had such fun with Bitten Under Fire. From Bianca’s brave actions, to the rescue and that slip up, to the sexy bantering between Cage and Bianca to their truly happy ever after ending… I loved every second spent in this world.
If you love Shifters, if Paranormal Romance is one of your favorite genre, or if you simply love a good thrilling romance then you’ll want to pick up Bitten Under Fire, and probably When Danger Bites as well. While I always believe the reader gets the best overview of a series by starting with the first book – if you cannot do that then you will not be lost at all by starting with this particular story. Bianca and Cage are a sizzling hot couple, there is danger, several twists, secrets and a growing love to add to this delicious mix. I loved it, and I think you will, too.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Bitten Under Fire by Heather Long is book Two in the Bravo Team WOLF Series. Bianca boss forces her to take a 6 month leave to get some rest and relaxation. While she is on vacation, she gets kidnapped while trying to save a small boy from harm. Carlos “Cage” Castillo and his team are sent in to rescue her and the little boy. Something goes wrong, and Cage is sent to keep an eye on Bianca even after she returns home. As the attraction between the two grows, there are secrets to be revealed, family issues to be handled and surprises galore with lots of twist.
My Rating: 4.5 stars *****
“I received an advanced copy of this book from the author at no cost to me."
Something I can depend on in every Heather Long book is a strong woman and an Alpha male who isn't afraid to give in to her. In this book our heroine takes strength and courage to a whole new level.
Bianca isn't a soldier, she's an aid worker on her first vacation in years. Lounging by the pool enjoying the tropical sun, her relaxation is interrupted by a bunch of armed men grabbing a young boy. Without thinking she attempts to thwart them and ends up taken with the boy.
As Bravo Team WOLF moves in to extract them, something unexpected happens, a nick, a bite, something. Did Bianca imagine a huge wolf releasing her from her captor?
Carlos 'Cage' stays by her side as much as possible during her initial recovery. He has to stay close, he has to find out if he has changed her life forever. A mistake his father, his Alpha will never forgive.
Now the fun begins as he takes up residence in a house across the street from her and worms his way to friendship even as he tried to verify if he bit her.
Okay so maybe I laughed a little harder than I should have, but damn she tased him!
Plenty of tension as he waits for signs she might be turning. I loved his conversations with his abuela, she pulls no punches. Lots of little things snuck in that had me giggling or reminiscing and there were definitely some tears as well.
So we have some family drama, a possible bite that could change Bianca's life forever, and a growing attraction that cannot be denied.
I can't wait for the next book in this series!
The second book in the Bravo Team WOLF series by Heather Long confirms that my initial assessment of this series was spot on, in fact I would have to say I may have underestimated a bit. Bitten Under Fire is a thrilling romance that gets the heart pumping and passion raging.
This story starts off with quite an adrenaline punch and gets more exciting as it continues. It is fast paced with lots of dangerous thrills, twists that keep readers on the edge of their seat and a major secret that not only will have to be revealed but could destroy all the happiness this couple could have before it really gets started.
Bianca and Cage have lots of electrifying chemistry and being the strong, compelling characters they are, they easily draw readers into their lives as they strive for an happily ever after which in there is threatened by a major secret and plenty of emotional turbulence. The attraction between Bianca and Cage is undeniable, the passion is red hot and readers can’t help but hope that they can overcome the obstacles and become another strong Bravo Team WOLF couple.
Heather Long has definitely created an exciting paranormal military world with lots of fascinating characters that I just want to sink my teeth into again and again. These wolves are tough, sexy and easily set hearts to pounding and passions burning and I can’t wait until their next mission.
I gotta say when it comes to the authors that are published under Entangled, I have been quite a fan of their shapeshifter books I’ve come across. Even though Bitten Under Fire went a different direction than other shifter books I have read, I still found it rather enjoyable. This was a first time read from Heather Long and I have become completely entranced with her writing and Bitten Under Fire definitely won’t be the last book I’ll read by her.
Now I bet you’re wondering why I mentioned that this book went in a different direction than others I have read. To me, Bitten Under Fire felt like it was completely focused on something that Bianca was going through and the romance (of course) between Cage and her. With other shifter stories, I’m so used to them being action packed, so I think that’s what forced me to look at this book in a completely different way.
With Cage essentially being a part of a special forces team in the Marine Corps, on a rescue mission was the first time he first set eyes on Bianca. It wasn’t just her beauty that caught his eye, but her instincts to protect a child that wasn’t hers. And it was this very moment that he could probably do anything to get this woman to safety and protect her. Probably a lot longer than he bargained for, but I don’t see him complaining anytime soon.
I admired Bianca’s character so much, she was strong and I loved her complete loyalty to the child she was protecting. And I found her personality rather easy-going even if she did have tendencies to keep to herself, which made me a bit sad at times. But I loved how Cage was able to sneak into her daily routine especially since he decided to move across the street from her. As much as I would love to go into detail about why he did that, you’re just going to have to pick up your own copy and find out for yourself.
The romance between these two had an easy and natural pace, which made it totally real to me. I was hoping for more with the plot and definitely wishing for more of Cage and Bianca’s story. I felt like there’s still so much to share about them, which I hope we’ll get more off with the other books to come.
Definitely adding this series to my TBR because I’m looking forward to reading more from Heather Long.
Military wolves!
US Aid worker Bianca Devlin is on a forced vacation by her boss at a 5 star resort when she interrupts a kidnapping of young boy so the kidnappers take her with them when they escape back into the jungle. Bravo Team Wolf is tasked to find and rescue Collin Valenzuela who is the son of the US ambassador.
Bianca was injured during the rescue and accidently bitten by Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo in his wolf form. Cage knew that there was a slight possibility that Bianca could be changed into a wolf with just one bite. Bianca moved to Austin to recuperate from her injuries so Cage bought the house across the street because his wolf was very attracted to Bianca but he couldn’t do anything until he knew whether or not she would change.
Bitten Under Fire is a stand-alone paranormal romance that is different from many others because the way the wolves deal with humans. I intend to read the first book in the series and I hope there are other books being written.
Received an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
A brilliant intriguing story it was a good read and enjogable and i recommend trying it and wait to try more
This is the first book by this author that I have read but it will not be the last! This story is about a team of Marines who are wolf shifters. They are sent to search rescue hostages that have been kidnapped in Costa Rica. Led by Carlos "Cage" Castillo the rescue mission is successful but an accident will change the life forever of Bianca. Feeling guilty, Cage is determined to watch over her. This story has romance, suspense and a HEA ending. The characters are well-defined and you will appreciate the strength that both the H and h display. The book is well-written and the plot is good. The author takes you on an adventure that is interesting and intriguing. Their are some f-bombs dropped and mild sex scenes but overall, a great read.
There were many things I loved about Bitten Under Fire.
Bianca gets in a bit of a situation while holidaying, and by “situation” I mean she tried to prevent a child from getting kidnapped by guerrillas but only succeeded in getting herself drug through the jungle.
Fortunately, they get rescued by a team of sexy badasses just in the nick time but not before Bianca got heavily banged up.
Unbeknownst to everyone, the shifter packs of the US have agreed to form a special ops team working for the military to keep their existence on the down low. Cage is the one leading the group that goes into the jungle for the S&R of Bianca and the kid.
His attraction to Bianca is immediate and powerful, but in the midst of a rescue, he can’t really do anything about it. Nor while Bianca is recuperating in a hospital bed but when he sees what it says in her medical report, he knows he can’t just walk away.
That is how they end up across-the-street neighbors. While Bianca finds this iffy, when they start to spend time together she can’t deny the pull she feels towards Cage and their chemistry soon ignites into passion. Everything is hunky dory until Bianca begins to feel off and we realize Cage’s presence is not only fuelled by his attraction but that he is on a mission of his own.
I found the storyline, as well as the overall world it takes place in, really interesting. I enjoyed the slightly different take on shifters, though I must confess that the whole Alpha thing between Cage and his father was rather off-putting. I mean I was waiting for Cage to fart and his dad to see it as a challenge. I guess I’m used to reading about alphas that act in a less strictly-animal-to-the-letter way.
I loved Bianca completely. She was one very tough cookie and totally selfless. Her whole life was about helping those in need, and she never thought twice about lending a hand. She really just rolled with the punches and took everything mostly in stride, which I thought was really impressive.
Cage was one sexy wolf hot-guy. He had the muscles and the moves to drive anyone crazy. It was loads of fun to watch him struggle with his feelings for Bianca.
I do have to admit I did a fair bit of skimming, as both main characters could go into their heads and spend quite a long time there. This also made for the pace of the story to be on the slower side, and I was constantly prompting myself to carry on reading.
With action, some suspense and lots of hot sexiness Bitten Under Fire was a solidly good read, although the pace was not to my personal taste, I really enjoyed the overall story.
Fun!
I really enjoyed this story. Cage and Bianca are terrific together. This is my first book by Ms. Long and I’m looking forward to reading more by her.
I voluntarily read an advanced copy.
This was a fun book to read!
Bianca is such a great person, I wish I was her friend. She was taught by her parents to help and improve the world, to go beyond your own borders. I truly admire people like that. Though for awhile I thought that Bianca was using that as an excuse to avoid relationships but no. Cage too was a great character. I like that he made the choice to go beyond the pack to serve the country.
They met in unusual circumstances and Cage went to be near her to see if she might've accidentally been bitten (by him) and turn into a wolf too. And in between...their interactions are sooo cute! You can tell they fit together.
When things come to head, Bianca reacts normally and Cage is unsure what to do. But he rallies in the end and really, just a nice ending to a couple I was rooting for from the start. I want to read Jax's book and the next book in this series now.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this book!
Cage is part of Bravo Team WOLF, men who are also wolf shifters. They have been tasked with saving a little boy who has been captured for political reasons and find Bianca with him. She is a World Aid worker who goes to dangerous regions to assist the residents after catastrophic events like hurricanes. Unfortunately while Cage was saving Bianca he accidently bit her so he has to stay with her to find out if she is going to turn into a wolf shifter. Their attraction and his guilt make it difficult to have a relationship but they are determined to make it work. Enjoyable paranormal romance.
Rating: 4.5/5
This is an action packed contemporary romantic suspense that had me enthralled from the very start. Bianca Devlin is used to being sent from one disaster zone to another to help coordinate and organise support. She’s been doing this without a break until her boss insists she have a six month break, including going on a luxury holiday. Whilst in the exclusive resort she sees guerrillas kidnapping a young boy. She attempts to stop them but ends up being taken with him, being dragged into the jungle but is determined to protect him, even though her own life is threatened.
The boy is the sone of a diplomat and Bravo Team WOLF are sent in to rescue the child and are shocked to discover Bianca battling to protect the child. During the rescue Bianca is bitten by a large animal . . .
On her return to her new home, Bianca is shocked to discover one of her rescuers, Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo, lives across the street from her. . . . . As the attraction between the two grows, there are secrets to be revealed, family to be faced and surprises galore. This is an engaging story with a strong female lead, several alpha males and plenty of twists and turns in the well developed storyline to keep the reader enthralled. It is a steamy romance with paranormal elements and plenty of suspense that combine to make it a fun, fantasy that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys this genre, another winner by this talented author.
I requested and was given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.
This is the second installment in the series. Now that we "know" about the secret military group (Bravo Team WOLF), I was hoping for a little more PNR "action", so to speak. Unfortunately, this left me a bit bored at times, while in others, I was riveted. Hmmm...
Carlos "Cage" Castillo is a member of the Bravo Team. He's been given the honor of leading a mission, rescuing a kidnapped boy. But he soon discovers that it's not just the boy that will need rescuing. Although the rescue goes well, there's a hiccup. One that could not only jeopardize the secret group, but change the life of an innocent human.
Bianca Devlin could be considered a saint. She's spent the majority of her life running in to disasters, helping those less fortunate. So when she's supposed to be on vacation and witnesses a little boy being kidnapped, she steps in to help. Except, now she's in just as much danger. That is until they're rescued by the Bravo Team. Now? Now she still may need to be rescued because she can't seem to get Cage off the brain, out of her bed nor out of her thoughts. Uh oh.
The premise of the story is great. The natural chemistry between Cage and Bianca is actually super cute and fun to witness. Those aspects of the story worked for me. But there were multiple times when I just wanted to "get to it already". I didn't need to know each-and-every detail of making breakfast, accessing emotions, etc. It made the story drag when it shouldn't have.
Point made, once I hit the 60% mark, the flow picked up, drawing me deeper into the story. I felt as though we got to experience the PNR aspect of the story more so in this installment than in the first (although still limited). When the "ah ha" moment happens, it put a smile on my face, that remained until the very end.
