This is book 2 in the Bravo Team WOLF series. This one is about Carlos (Cage) Castillo and Bianca Devlin. Bianca is kidnapped while on vacation when she tries to stop the kidnappers from taking a child away from the resort. She is dragged along as collateral. Cage and his team are sent in to rescue the child as he is the son of a diplomat. They hoped to be able to save the woman taken with him. But in the rescue something goes wrong that was not expected. After she returns to the US she doesn't expect to run into Cage again. Especially not living right across the street from her. And now there are things happening that she isn't sure can be explained. Even with them getting closer to each other every day.
I loved this book. Cage is sweet and definitely Alpha but when he finds the one person he want and needs to be his mate, he wants to do everything he can to make sure she is happy and healthy. Bianca is a completely selfless person, even when she acts in a selfish it's not for something truly for herself. The only thing I didn't like was his keeping secrets even after they had gotten close. I get that he has to keep things secret but there were ways to get around it. But on a whole, I definitely loved this book. They both grew as individuals and realized that even by being together that they could still have the things that they need to be happy. Great read!
Bitten Under Fire is book 2 in Heather Long’s Bravo Team WOLF series. It is Bianca and Cage's story, and wow, does it start off with a bang!
I first opened this book with the intention of reading a page or two to see if it was something I wanted to read next. Well, it grabbed me almost from the first sentence and didn’t let go for two or three chapters! Once started there was no way I was putting this down, the rest, as they say, is history.
The first few chapters are quite intense. The author captured the fierce emotion of being kidnapped with a small child. The horrific circumstances in which Bianca and Collin find themselves in keep you turning the pages. I was both pleased and disappointed that that feeling of suspense didn’t carry through the book. Pleased because maintaining that level of intense emotion for a length of time can be draining, but disappointed (a bit, not a lot) because the book reverted to a conventional romance from that stage.
Having said that, I really enjoyed this book! I genuinely liked both Bianca and Cage, especially Cage, he was just a lovely character, and it was good that Bianca was presented as a social ‘do-gooder’ but without the pretension. She just genuinely cared about helping people, and her skills seemed to blend perfectly with those of Cage. It will be interesting to see how they work together in later books. I appreciated how Bianca reacted to the news of who Cage was, and the repercussions of it, it felt natural, and I loved the ending! I’m hoping Silver’s book is up next, the cocky bugger needs to get his just desserts!
I enjoyed Heather Long’s writing style, she was able to demonstrate emotion, sometimes quite intensely, but still managed to keep the general feel relaxed (except for those first few chapters). I found myself continually turning the pages to see what would happen next and to see just how Cage was going to dig himself out of the hole he made for himself. This book was from the joint point of view from Bianca and Cage, and it flowed smoothly from one to the other and at logical points.
I’d recommend Heather Long’s Bitten Under Fire to anyone who enjoys a werewolf romance with a military twist.
I was gifted this book in exchange for my honest review. This was introduction to author Heather Long. Bianca is a World Aid worker and for the last 10 years has been going from one disaster to another. Mudslides, floods, tsunamis, fires, hurricanes she has seen it all. Her job was her life which makes sense since she grew up with parents who travel the world with Doctors without Borders. After 10 years her boss sends her on mandatory sabbatical and books her the first week in a resort in Costa Rica. Guerilla's kidnap a young boy from the resort and she attacks them to try and save him. Instead she gets kidnapped too. Drug through the jungle and beaten she is constantly protecting Collin. When a military team rescues them she meets Cage. In his wolf form he might have bitten her and now he needs to watch over to see if she will change. The story takes you through the two of them discovering a chemistry that is more than rescuer/rescuee.
I really liked the author's writing style. She got me hooked on the story from the very beginning. The characters are well developed and you fall in love with them and want them to be happy together. You can't get much hotter than a shifter who is also a Marine! I recommend this book and will be reading her again.
Bitten Under Fire is about Bianca Devlin and Carlos “Cage” Castillo. Pretty simplified explanation for this story: uou should know it is fast and furious, full of bad guys, good guys, men who act like silly boys (sometimes), and a very brave little boy.
Bianca is at a resort when a little boy is abducted right from the resort. She jumps right in to try to rescue the boy but they end up in a heap of trouble. Enter Bravo Team WOLF for the rescue! Bianca doesn’t know about shifters and the team is forbidden to spill their secrets to humans. However…Cage may have bitten Bianca when he rescued her.
I loved how clueless Cage was, mostly about his own feelings and actions. Bianca is recovering from the trauma while falling for Cage…except she knows there is something he is holding back from her.
It’s fast-paced, there’s intrigue, there’s some wonderful moments between Bianca and Cage…and Cage’s grandmother. (I will say I wouldn’t want to be on HER bad side!) Enjoyed the story and completely fell for Cage. I received a free, advance copy of this book from the publisher. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
Totally immersing myself in this great world! Shifters are known to only a select few and they bargained for their autonomy and right to secrecy by setting up a specialist unit within the American military.
Bianca is a tirelessly optimistic aid worker. She goes from one disaster to another, never really taking a break. But when her boss puts her on a mandatory vacation she gets abducted along with a diplomats young son...well she couldn't let the boy face the horror on his own, could she?
She keeps them alive long enough for them to be rescued but during the escape she is essentially saved by a wolf but gets a bits on the process. Cage can't believe he but Bianca. It was accidental but he should have better control than that! The team then engineers an elaborate plan to keep tabs on Bianca, after all she could turn and they can't let her face that alone.
Cage may be telling himself he is detached and just looking after a former charge, but these two have sparks like you wouldn't believe. I loves the sneakiness of Cage but also his sweet side. Bianca could have come across as twee and precious and a know-it-all do gooder but she is a very fun, engaging character with a heart of gold. She just would not let Cage run roughshod all over her!
I loved it! This book grabbed my attention from the first. Bianca is such a stellar character and so full of courage. Little Collin sure tugged at the heart strings as well. I look forward to reading the rest of this series. Highly recommend it.

Paranormal Romance
*** 1/2
Heather Long’s BITTEN UNDER FIRE is the second book in her Bravo Team WOLF series of paranormal romances and is full of danger, secrets and romance.
Bianca Devlin is an aid worker who has been forced by her boss to take an extended vacation from her work. Of course, the resort she chooses for that forced vacation just so happens to be hit by guerillas there to kidnap a diplomat’s son. Bianca does what comes naturally, jumps in to save the boy and ends up a prisoner as well. Luckily for her, Brave Team WOLF is sent in and they are rescued. But not before it appears that Bianca may have been bitten by something in the melee.
Back home in Texas, Bianca is shocked to find her new next door neighbor is Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo, the very member of Bravo Team WOLF that rescued her only days before. The coincidence is beyond odd, but not unwanted. Yet something about Cage just doesn’t ring true.
Heather Long’s BITTEN UNDER FIRE is fast paced and filled with mystery and romance. Bianca is a very normal, albeit overworked aid worker who is constantly going from one high stress situation to the next helping others. Cage is strong, capable and sexy. The storyline moves along nicely from rescue to consequences with some getting-to-know-you time in the middle. Yet, when the unbelievable becomes real and Cage turns into a wolf right in front of her, Bianca must face the very real possibility that her life will never be the same.
This reader enjoyed BITTEN UNDER FIRE but it never really lit a fire under me. There wasn’t anything wrong with the book; it just wasn’t one of those books that you can’t seem to put down. The characters were interesting, but not as multifaceted as this reader would have hoped. The storyline was less rescue and more waiting to see if Bianca was going to join the furry folk and then once it was obvious she was going to turn, the rest of the book simply seemed anticlimactic.
Still, for romance readers interested in a little easy to read paranormal romance, Heather Long’s BITTEN UNDER FIRE is a nice enjoyable read.
I received an ARC through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is my first read by this author and I questioned whether it was a good idea to start in the middle of a series, but read the info and trusted that each book in the series is a stand alone. I was not disappointed by the author or the story!
Steamy romance with supernatural turmoil for characters to face, but never an ounce of disloyalty from any characters. I also love that the entire story, although predictable HEA, also so down to earth! No over the top dramatic storylines that may make us swoon, but also think that would never happen in real life. Aside from the werewolf aspect, lol, this was a just a fun, organic, love story that kept me interested from the first page to the last' then wanting to read the rest in the series!
This book is well worth your time and doesn’t have a lot of unimportant, extra junk to read through as the story progresses. It’s fast paced and holds the reader all the way through!
Emergency aid worker Bianca Devlin is used to being the rescuer. When she sees a little boy being kidnapped while she is on a forced vacation she rushes to his aid unfortunately getting kidnapped along with the boy. She does her best to keep the boy from more trauma. This all means that she and the boy need rescuing. Call in the Marines - Bravo Team WOLF to the rescue. Rescuing the boy and Bianca is supposed to be an easy in easy out op. Sergeant Carlos “Cage” Castillo is leading his first mission and everything is going to plan until he accidently bites Bianca while tearing the guy who is about to kill her away. Now he has to wait and see if she will change.
I LOVE Bianca! She is smart, strong and totally human in the best way. I love that Cage is so secure in himself as a Marine but just as messed up as the rest of us in relation to his father (his alpha) and oblivious in relation to women.
Bitten Under Fire is a heartwarming tale that kept me smiling and rooting for love.
Once again I’ve managed to read the second book in a series before the first. That said, I really enjoyed Bitten Under Fire and will definitely go back and read book one.
This was an entertaining shifter story, with plenty of action, danger and romance too. The world building was good and the characters were well developed. I look forward to seeing where the series goes from here.
Thank you NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for providing me with an e-ARC to read and review.
A different kind of storytelling for a paranormal romance novel than I'm used to...but I liked it. A lot.
At first, I requested this title because of the inciting incident described in the summary and the rest of the description seemed to support such an unusual beginning well enough to garner further interest. But it was the characters that kept me reading, which Heather Long does a fantastic job creating to propel the story along.
Bianca is a humanitarian through and through. She's thoughtful, tough, independent, driven and possesses a great sense of humor. Cage is a dedicated Marine who wants to prove his worth. He's funny, takes responsibility for his actions, and incredibly caring. I really loved that both characters have dedicated their lives to helping and saving people. They are truly perfect for each other. Also, the dialogue between them is just so on-point and witty.
While Bianca and Cage are terrific characters and romantic leads, I adored their parents. The Devlin's are also humanitarians who work as physicians for Doctors Beyond Borders. They're so fun-loving and dedicated to their work and each other. Cage's father is not a man to be trifled with. But he has this certain appeal and charm about him, an adorable softness when it comes to his pack and family.
It took some time for me to get used to such a character driven story. The majority of the book focuses on the development of Bianca and Cage's relationship. I kept waiting for some third-party external force to disrupt things since the actual problem would take time to make itself known. It was unsurprising when that crux moment finally occurred but the romance kept me buoyant until then. There was a lengthy explanation about what wolves are, which for me I found boring because I've read so many shifter/wolf stories. But I'd say this would be a good starter book for anyone who hasn't read or is not too familiar with this aspect of the paranormal in fiction and the possibilities to create distinguishable supernatural beings.
The ending was a bit cheesy. I think it could have been done differently - same idea but different material. Or perhaps the final scenes needed more space for more impact. But what happened did its job and there were feels aplenty. Too rushed but okay.
"Bitten Under Fire" is the first book I've read by Heather Long and I think the first military-esque fiction I've read - the latter another aspect I loved about this book. I'm not sure if I'll go back and read book 1 because right now I'm not too interested in Jax and Kat's story - although I did like their brief presence in this installment so maybe someday. But I would recommend this book regardless. Heather Long is a great writer and storyteller.
Cage and Bianca captivated me from the start. I really liked them as people and how they treated each other. They aren't coy, they are open and honest. Now, you may say Cage not so much, but he wasn't dishonest, he was waiting. And then, he did the right thing as soon as he knew what needed to be done.
It was refreshing to have a couple that was, well, normal. They didn't have baggage that they carried, they dealt with their lives. They had family, and accepted them for their flaws, and loved them. They didn't need to be in the centre of the spotlight, or flashy, or stand out in the crowd, they were accepting of who they were, and embraced what made them happy
I really liked Cage and Bianca, and reading their story, let me get to know them, and how perfect they were for each other!
Bianca is an aid worker who is taking a mandatory vacation. Costa Rica was a good choice until she sees a small boy is being kidnapped from her resort and tries to protect him. That ended up getting her kidnapped as well. Bianca and the boy are saved by Bravo Team WOLF and they make it to an aircraft carrier where Bianca is treated for all of her many injuries. The doctor mentions what looks like a dog bite and Cage Castillo, who was one of Bianca’s saviors, thinks he might have made a huge mistake. He can’t get a good look at the bite on Bianca’s arm but he’s pretty sure that in the middle of the fight between Bravo Team and the guerillas, he might have bitten Bianca and turned her into a shifter. In order to verify this Cage follows Bianca to Austin, Texas where she’s rehabbing a home during the rest of her vacation. Cage and Bianca don’t fight their attraction to each other for very long before they’re in bed together. They seem to mesh with each other so seamlessly, but Bianca has no idea why Cage is really there or that she may turn into a wolf very soon.
This was a good second novel in Bravo Team WOLF series. I really enjoyed getting to know both Bianca and Cage and their romance was very sweet. Bianca was just a good person. I don’t think she had a selfish bone in her whole body. The fact that she had tried to save the boy, Colin, from being kidnapped was amazing and I admired her inner strength during her ordeal and even afterward. Once she found out about shifters and that she might turn into a wolf she was freaked out – of course. I loved that the author didn’t make her act like it was shocking but no big deal. She had her stewing and genuinely acting like she was about to come unglued. I loved it because it was a totally realistic reaction.
Cage was a bit harder to get to know but he was a nice man. He was hot as hell from the description but more than that he had a good heart. He had felt like he had to prove himself because his father is the alpha of his pack and that put him in the spotlight. With Bianca she wanted to get to know him but took him at face value. He really didn’t have to prove himself as she knew that he was one of the good ones (since he saved her and all). I loved that while he was so protective of Bianca he was also willing to give her time to herself when she asked. See? Good man.
We didn’t get as much interaction with the whole Bravo Team as we did in the first book, but we got some. The story was such that I really didn’t mind all that much. I love team member Silver and his sense of humor and can’t wait for his book. Hopefully we’ll get it soon.
Overall this was a good story and so far I like the series a lot.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. When I first read the description of this book I was drawn to it. I was not expecting it to be a fantasy and was surprised to find it about humans turning into wolves. I didn't let that stop me from reading as i wanted to make sure i could give a full review. I am happy to say that i was surprised by this book. The author had well developed characters and a great storyline. I loved the detail placed in the book so that i didn't feel like i was missing pieces. The author also kept my interest, without losing it, in suspense to whether Bianca was going to change into a wolf after being bitten. The romance part of this book was on point you could genuinely feel the connection between them. I would recommend this book to someone that likes military fantasy romance fiction.
