Final Shadows is the third book in the Bishop Files Trilogy by Kay Hooper. I have been a fan of Kay Hooper’s for a while and I must say, Final Shadows does not disappoint, though I wish it had not taken three years to finally be able to read the conclusion in this trilogy. Happy to report that many questions I had at the conclusion of book 2, A Deadly Web, have now been answered. It all comes together in a neat, well written ending. Maybe too neat?

The final battle is upon Bishop and his group of psychic’s. We get much insight into Murphy. And no, I will not say to much about her, but suffice it to say that I was taken by surprise. I found the evolution of Duran intriguing. Murphy and Duran have history…

“Your relationship with Duran could be another key.”

Murphy winced. “Relationship. Gotta be another name for two enemies who trust each other about as far as either one of us could throw a Buick.”

If ever one had a hatred for a fictional character…it is Sebring. Many bad things seemed to happen and most – attributable to Sebring and her leadership.

I was so upset (as was Bishop and his gang) at the loss of the unborn babies and their host mothers by the fire that was deliberately set. Bishop and crew definitely put blame upon themselves for not being able to stop the annihilation of the home the mothers and unborn babies all lived in. All of the babies were psychics, not “latents”. The mystery is who would want to kill all of them? Never fear, eventually that mystery is solved.

There were some twists and turns throughout the story, which kept me guessing. The introduction of a few new characters added more depth and intrigue, though at times I needed to keep a list of who was bonded to whom. Once I got that all straight, it was easy to identify the couples. And I really enjoyed the introduction of Pendragon…a cat with attitude and then some ☺.

The writing certainly allowed for much emotion, especially surrounding the death of the innocents! At times a bit slow, but that may well have been me trying to keep all the characters straight. Once the story got to the point of everyone working towards getting the “bad” guy (actually – gal) … the pace picked up and the flow improved. All in all, a decent conclusion to the trilogy.

My one complaint about reading books in a series generally is that time passes in between books so….it has been nearly four years since I completed book one, The First Prophet. Now that I have read the third book in the Bishop Files trilogy, I am inclined to go back and read the three books in quick succession. Regardless, I am still a huge fan of Kay Hooper and can’t wait to see which of her titles I shall read next.

I shall patiently await Ms. Hooper’s next book with baited breath!

Bishop and the psychics team together to stop the schemes of the evil faction. Are they just evil or something more. ARC from NetGalley.

I was expecting the Bishop FBI books, and this was not it. It also didn't help that I had somehow missed the first 2 in this trilogy, so was fairly lost for the start.

This was an excellent end to a great sub-series within a larger series. The characters have been well-rounded over the course of three books, and the story has followed logically in each book. The author did surprise me with a particular direction, but it was in keeping with the story so it felt right. In fact, I saw it coming, but I thought she would suddenly change directions, so the surprise was more that there wasn't a twist. If you haven't read the first two books, I would suggest that they come first, as this is not likely to make sense without them.

Many of my favorite characters were a part of this story. I thought this was a great conclusion to this story arc, but there were almost too many players to keep track of everything happening.
Many things were alluded to in the book that I wish had been explained. I feel we have read more intense material from her before but she wasn't willing to go there here.
The news about bonded pairs will be an interesting concept going forward in her other books I am sure.
Murphy and Duran were very interesting characters that I would be interested in reading more about but this has a definite more sci-fi feel to me than paranormal.

Thank you to NetGalley, Berkley Publishing Group, and Kay Hooper for an ARC. This is an honest review.

Final Shadows is the about a group psychics (mostly all paired off) working together to rescue some babies and captured psychics.

First thing to note is that this is book three of the Bishop Files. I have not read the previous books but I have read other books from Ms. Hooper from this world. Second thing is that it has been a few years since I have picked up a novel by Kay. I don't know why because I genuinely liked her previous books.

I forgot how much I liked this world. Kay Hooper can paint a fantastic world. This book was hard though. First rule is to read books 1-2 because there were so many characters in the first chapter and in this book I had a hard time connecting to any of them. My description of the book above is vague but really did sum up the book. There was a lot of questioning about whats happening. The thing is even while this questioning and confusion was happening I still wanted to keep reading. If this is your first Kay Hooper book please choose another one and come back to this. It was dark but I do enjoy a dark story. This one just had a lot going on that you need previous books to truly appreciate it.

NetGalley: Three stars because I recommend this book if you have read the first two in the series plus some previous books in the world.
Goodreads: Two stars because while I finished it and did enjoy parts there was so much that was confusing that I could not really enjoy the book.

Final Shadows brings to a close the Bishop Files trilogy by Kay Hooper. A network of people with psychic abilities must work together to end the war between those Bishop has sworn to protect and the factions. The horrors of the factions must be stopped at all costs, and Murphy is more than willing to pull out all the stops to make sure this war ends once and for all.

Murphy is an interesting character that is shrouded in mystery. A few questions about her are answered but really all that does is create more questions. A future series that focuses on Murphy’s past, present and future would make a superb addition Hooper’s books. Duran is the other character that needs to be explored further. He’s one that you want to hate but aren’t so sure that you should. His unanswered questions are by far the most intriguing.

This final book was one of the best I have read by Hooper. The underlying secrets that are brought to light and even the questions that are still unanswered made this a truly interesting read. It will open your mind to endless possibilities and what I hope is not the end of some fantastic characters.

I haven’t read any of this authors previous books before so i didn’t know what to expect when starting this story.
This is the 3rd book in the series and is meant to be read as a stand-alone but it doesn’t read as a stand-alone at all. I felt like I had started reading a book from the middle not from the start.
There was a lot of characters to deal with, and by the end of the book I couldn’t remember anything about any of them.
Having so many characters made it difficult to get into the story. This would of been ok if you had read the previous books in the series.
I felt there was no character development at all. With any series there’s always a catch up, a brief description of the goings on in previous books but there was nothing in this book.
Maybe I would of enjoyed this book if I had read the others.

This cannot be enjoyed as a stand alone in my opinion. Although I have read the other books in the series, I did not enjoy this one. There needed to be more background information given to draw this reader into caring about the characters. I needed my mind refreshed as to who the characters were and what their previous experiences had been. Kay Hooper is a very good writer within this genre and I expected to enjoy this book as much as I did her previous novels, but I was disappointed. It was OK.

The third book and final book in the Bishop Files series wraps things up neatly. Good characterizations, twisty plot, and more than a few surprises.

I don't remember if the earlier books explicitly said that they were dealing with an alien invasion (although the clues were there). Regardless, it is explicit here. The rise in psychic abilities--in this, and by implication, the other Bishop and Haven books--is a tactic by the aliens to breed for it. Why is a bit of a surprise, and their tactics are appalling even among the good (that is, less bad) contingent.

Worth reading, although I would recommend starting at the beginning of the trilogy.

Final Shadows by Kay Hooper the final book in the Bishop Files Trilogy. The book was darker and more violent than the previous books. Often, I lost the thread of the book and confused with the way various characters were included. Not one of my favorites by Ms Hooper.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

Tasha Solomon’s psychic powers have never been easy to deal with, but now they are jeopardizing her life. John Brodie is a Guardian, he’s in charge of keeping psychics safe, but Tasha is special. And her very life is in jeopardy, she and others like her are being hunted because of their gifts. Hooper never fails to enthrall her readers with extraordinary characters and intricate plots

I have read all of Kay Hoooper's book starting with the Loveswepts. She has always been a favorite author of mine. This book was not at all what I expected. The story line was not what I expected from this series. The book seemed to be more focused on the final battle than on the characters. I did enjoy the book but again it was different
