Wow, Debbie did it again. She wrote a wonderful book. A girl feels lost and alone after losing her family. She returns to the summer cottage where he family vacationed as a child. As she spends more time at the cottage, her heart starts to heal. It will take time, but with the help of new found friends, she is able to move on to the next phase in her life. This book is heartwarming and is worth the read. I found that I could not put it down. I received a free copy in return for my honest review on NetGalley.

After Annie loses her entire family in a mudslide, she decides to move back to the place where she lived happily with them. It’s a tiny cottage across the street from a beach in a small town. She starts making new friends, including a mysterious painter, and a woman suffering from agoraphobia (a fear of open and public places.) She learns that helping others helps herself heal.
This was a beautiful story of a woman affected by tragedy who learned how to live and love again. Personally, I love stories with a happy ending, but this story didn’t conclude that way. It was sad and somewhat less fulfilling than I’d hoped. I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and am voluntarily reviewing it.

I loved this latest book by Debbie Macomber titled Cottage by the Sea. It is a must read and a great beach read. This book I didn't want to put down. With all the negative in this world, this read will remind you that there is still good people in this world.. I know that work of fiction but in truth I am sure that Debbie found someone inspiration from someone around her to write this. I would very much recommend this book to any reader.

If ever a Debbie Macomber book was destined to be a Hallmark movie; it is Cottage By the Sea. Once I started this book I could not put it down. I only stopped when the battery died on my Kindle. This heart touching story demonstrates how people come together to form a family even though they are not related. Over the years I have read many books by Ms. Macomber. This is by far my favorite.

Another hit for Debbie Macomber. Cottage by the Sea is a tender, gentle novel about loss, love, and hard lessons. The main character, Annie, suffers a tremendous loss and decides to relocate to a beach town where she begins to heal with help from a silent admirer. The supporting characters have developing stories that intertwine nicely with Annie's. My favorite character is crusty Mellie who resists reentering life. The ending will leave you sighing with contentment.

When tragedy took the lives of Annie’s immediate family, she was left with feelings of despair, aloneness, depression, and low self worth. Annie had survival’s guilt and wanted to die with her family. However, her cousin urged her to go to a place in her life where she felt happy. As Annie traveled to a cottage by the sea, hope for a better, happier future slowly made its way into her life in the form of a quiet gentle giant, a recluse landlord, and other complex and troubled characters.
This story was very entertaining, but it was also an emotional read. Many of the characters had to “let go” of past events to move forward, which was not an easy task. I also loved how the author incorporated the rescue theme throughout the story with both people and animals. A very well written story!
Highly recommended!

I have read many of Debbie Macomber's books and enjoy all of them. While I did enjoy this book , the writing style seemed a bit different. Annie had a tragic loss. Unable to deal with it she hid out for 1 1/2 years. When she was ready to just give it all up she decided to go back to her happy place. The place where she and her family used to spend their vacations. Where times were good. Starting over in a place she loved as a child her live began to change. Just when Annie is finally happy in a place she can call home with new friends she gets an offer of a life time, Now does she start all over again and hope to find happiness or stay where she is at ? This is a fun summer read and I am sure you will enjoy it.

After the death of her family, Annie moves to the sea in order to start fresh.
There she meets a curmudgeon yet troubled neighbor and a gruff and quiet painter.
Through those two people, Annie finds that people can overcome a lot with a new start, new friends and taking chances.

As always, I love Debbie Macomber. I devour her books. This one seemed REALLY far-fetched though. The idea that everyone can miraculously overcome mental illness and a life time of unhappiness in a few weeks seems a bit unrealistic. However, I do not read Debbie Macomber for the reality. I read it for the hope, the adorable-ness and the love. Not my favorite but still an enjoyable read.

An ok book, didn’t really feel like a typical Debbie Macomber book. A little depressing with so many people dieing. Felt more like she took a page from Nicholas Sparks.

Annie Marlowe loses her family, tragically and unexpectedly early one Thanksgiving morning. She lives with survivors guilt until one day her cousin encourages her to make a move, any move toward healing herself by visiting her "happy place". She remembers an ocean side cottage she and her family visited summers during her teenaged years. She visits the sleepy seaside town, finds a job and moves in to the cottage her family once stayed at. She encounters people as broken as she is, and together, they shakily build their lives again.

Debbie Macomber's books are dependable and sturdy; predictable, but that is what makes them so enjoyable as go-to comfort reads. I've read many of her books, and many of theme were shared with me by Net Galley, as this particular novel was, in exchange for a an honest review. I look forward to getting lost in the fictionalized world that Macomber creates for her readers, and I love the dependability of her writing style. She delivers what readers want most; imperfect, believable characters who work through tragedies and come through the other side of angst. This one is no disappointment, and I am happy to have read it.

I received an advanced reader copy for an honest review.
Ihave read Debbie Macomber's books before, and I love them all! This one has touched me like no other. I actually cried reading it! It is filled with love, loss, and destiny. Annie and Keaton have a wonderful story that, for Newton, dates back to the teen years and love at first sight. Their story totally tugged my heart strings.
Mellie and Preston have their own love story faced with different challenges. Both couples were destined for each other, but had to get through the muck to see the light.
I highly recommend this book. I kept thinking about the story and characters when I wasn't reading it. Now that I am done I am still thinking of them! This is one of those stories that stands out and I am hoping to read it again!

Debbie Macomber has, once again, produced a heartwarming story of loss and love, of friendship and respect. Due out July 17, 2018, Cottage By the Sea, may be one of her best yet, as it explores the recovery of well-developed, lifelike characters from a devastating loss, pain caused by a cruel parent, self-punishment by a young woman who believed she did not deserve to love again, and a mother and two siblings living with an abusive man.

Physician assistant, Annie Marlow’s world was turned upside down by unspeakable tragedy. After drifting through life for sixteen months, she returns to Oceanside, the small seaside town of her childhood family vacations. It was there that she had the happiest memories of her lost family.

Annie is quickly accepted into the community, and finds again and again that the best way to heal herself is to do what comes naturally to her – helping others. Keaton’s life has been cruel and lonely, yet he is a talented artist who rescues abused animals. Mellie has enclosed herself in her late grandparents’ home, and become an agoraphobic and a hoarder. Britt and Logan show bruises and broken bones from the man of the house, and their mother, Teresa, sees no way out of her situation.

Since childhood, Annie has wanted to go to medical school. Torn between leaving a budding romance and the community she had grown to love, when faced with chance to apply for an accelerated program for PAs, she struggles to make a decision.

As a public health educator, I am happy to see Macomber mention budget cuts that cripple social services, as well as her mention of a voice “that rattled after years of tobacco use”. Another important point raised in Cottage By the Sea is the fact that most battered women’s shelters do not accept male children above a certain age. Because of this some battered moms have no place to go.

What Makes This Book Reviewer Grumpy?

The usual things:
-- ending a sentence with a preposition;
-- beginning a sentence with a conjunction;
-- split infinitives;
-- misplacement of the word “only” within a sentence;
-- having a character say “come” when he should have said “go”.

What do you do when your whole family is killed in a freak accident and you are haunted by the last conversation you had with them? You seek comfort in the one place you had happy memories, Oceanside. Annie goes back to the little cottage by the sea to help herself heal from her terrible loss. Along the way she meets some very quirky characters that become her best friends and neighbors. This cottage and the new friends help her move on and pursue her one dream that she never thought she could achieve. Debbie Macomber does it again with her characters that we don't want to let go of. I am hoping this is the first of several books with this town and characters.

Debbie Macomber's Cottage by the Sea is a charming read about loss, love, reinvention, and self-discovery. After experiencing a heartbreaking family tragedy, physician's assistant, Annie Marlow, is encouraged to find her "happy place." After reflecting, she discovers that she experienced her happiest memories with her family during summer vacations in the Pacific Northwest town of Oceanside. Shortly after her visit, Annie decides to relocate to the picturesque town full of warm, colorful characters and fond memories. While there, she experiences love, new friendships, and her happy place in the cottage by the sea.

I enjoyed this novel immensely, and I finished it in one day. I laughed, cried, and cheered as I followed Annie's journey to following her dreams. Debbie Macomber is one of my favorite "feel-good" authors, and fans of her work will enjoy this one as well. The only reason that I gave it 4/5 stars is that I would have liked a little more development with a few of the characters, but it's still a wonderful read, and I recommend it.

I was provided with an eARC of this book in exchange for a fair review.
I’ve read Debbie’s books in the last and enjoyed them, and this didn’t disappoint. Nothing too deep or intense about this; just a feel-good romance for when you need a little fluff to read. A good way to help a reading hangover 😏.
