Once again Debbie Macomber gives us an encouraging story about overcoming adversity in the worst of times. She shows how friendship, love and overcoming adversity can lift your spirits. Never disappointed in her novels.
Since this is only the second book that I have read by this author, I hesitate to be too dismissive, but this book was not a good fit for me. That said I’m sure there are those readers who would genuinely like this story. The melodrama is a bit over the top with all of the characters having serious devastation in their backgrounds. There was little to be happy about in anyone's life until the very pat ending. As expected the dialog was well written and the characters well developed. But this story was just “okay", although I found it depressing.
Going home to heal her wounds Annie goes to her family’s summer cottage. She finds more of her needs healing than she thought. Great read, emotional and funny. I highly recommend it
Debbie Doesn't Dissapoint! I love almost everything this fine women has written. I want to buy a plane ticket and fly to the Nortwest and visit every town in every book.
The characters in this book are exactly what we have come to expect. It's an easy breezy read. If you are a Macomber fan or even if you are not. I recommend you pick up this book. Net Galley was gracious enough to provide digital access to this book, I provided the honest opinion
Fantastic book! I love the Debbie Macomber's books are such a breeze to read but still heartfelt and emotional. Definitely recommended. Five stars!
Annie is learning to adjust to life without her entire family. After eighteen months she has decided to go to one the place that she remembers from her childhood as a time of love and happiness. Will this place be the healing Annie needs?
A beautiful story or healing and love. You not only have healing from a personal tragedy, you have healing of a past that has frozen one to life of agoraphobia, and healing of animals that bring comfort and joy to all they touch.
I appreciate how Debbie Macomber can write about love without smutting it up. She keeps it clean and respectful. Her characters can argue nd get their point across without throwing out curse words every other word. You can rest assured that an impressionable young woman can read this book and walk away without being shocked.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Random House Publishing through NetGalley. Any and all opinions expressed in the above review are entirely my own.
This book felt very much like a Debbie Macomber book to me, which was a very good thing, because it is her book. Annie is our h, who tragically loses her family, and after a period of depression, decides to go back to a “happy”place where her family vacationed every summer. There is a man who grew up there, and remembers her from his childhood, but was always to afraid to talk to her. This is a very simple synopsis for a fairly complex story of Annie, the small seaside town of Oceanside, and the people who live and love there. I truly enjoyed the power of this story, and felt all the love and heartbreak this story brings. I have been reading Ms.Macomber for many years now, and believe that the depth of her writing has improved greatly over the last couple of books
I didn't want to put this book down once I started reading it. Poor Annie she goes through so much in this book especially at the beginning. Keaton is such a lovable character, I wish he was real. All the people in this book have something to overcome and happily by the end of the book they do. This is a great summer read. The book sucks you right in and you don't want to leave. I am really happy I got to read this book.

Classic Debbie Macomber- a light summer read with characters who emerge from the darkness and move toward a happier life. In this case, Annie is dealing with a horrible tragedy and her move to Oceanside brings her into contact with Keaton, Mellie, and Brit- all of whom also have sadness in their lives. As you might expect, there's a little romance (but no steamy scenes!). If I have an issue, it's that this is so light given the themes, but then again, it is a very good summer book. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This is a quick and entertaining read for Macomber fans.
The author grabbed my attention right from the beginning, and what a beginning, have the tissues handy.
Trying to find peace, going to a happy spot, this is what brings Annie Marlow back to Oceanside, and an entirely new start on her shattered life.
I loved these characters and they all seemed so real, and they meld together beautifully, hurting yes, but so much compassion for those less fortunate.
I do have to admit, I couldn’t put this one down, and now I’m sad that the page turning is over, I wanted even more, even with the epilogue!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Ballantine Books, and was not required to give a positive review.
What would you do if you lost your entire family in one night? How would you move on? Could you move on? A beautiful story of moving on from heartbreak and learning how to trust and again.
After Annie gets the horrible news that her entire family died, she moves to a coastal town where she has wonderful memories of her family. She wants the same courage they stayed in when she was younger, but meets some obstacles. Keaton, a man that she met one summer, but doesn't remember, helps pave the way. Keaton had never forgotten Annie and can't believe that she is back after nearly a decade. He vows to never let her go, if he gets a chance.
They have a great friendship, and even start carrying about each other. Keaton is worried that she will leave, but wants to make the most of the time they have together. Her landlord is a tough nut to crack. She never comes outside and isn't friendly at all. Annie tries to befriend her and is met with a lot of resistance. What had made the woman the recluse that she is? Will she, the neighbor, be able to prove that she loves the man that she did, after she treats him horribly when he tells her how he feels.
There wasn't a moment in this book that wasn't brilliantly written. Each character had flaws that were believable and broken pieces that needed to out back together. Sometimes, family isn't i only blood. It's also the people that support you. A must read. I would give this book more than five c starts if I could.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from Ballantine Books for my unbiased opinion of the book. This is the story of Annie Marlow who goes through a horrific tragedy to find out why she is meant to be still here on earth and to follow her destiny. Debbie Macomber is one of the few authors that I will buy and read whatever she writes. From the Cedar Cove series to Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern for Your Life, Blossom series to Call Me Mrs. Miracle (who I think is really Debbie). She brings such joy and delight with her God-given talent!!! I read this book in less than twelve hours! You will not want to put it down and it ends great! Thank you, Debbie Macomber, for all the great stories told and spiritual advice you have given! Keep it up!
I thought this was an amazing story. It is a tale of heart wrenching loss, grief, starting over, and learning to live again. A year after suffering an unimaginable loss people are trying to get Annie to move on and get on with her life. That's easier said than done when everything around you reminds you of those you lost. It wasn't until Annie decides to return to the one place that holds most of her fun childhood memories. The quaint little beach town and the loving yet quirky residents are just the balm her heart and soul needed. Now can she open her heart and love again?
Of course the writing is exceptional with this one and the characters are nothing less than memorable. Put this one on the must read list. I highly recommend it.
Debbie Macomber's latest novel is one of her most engaging, beautiful characters, beautiful place, beautiful story. I know many authors with this many titles start to get redundant but I like each of her books better than the last.
Overcoming Tragedy and Finding a Place to Call Home
As a child, some of Annie’s favorite memories involve time spent with her family in a vacation cottage on the Oregon coast. As an adult she’s enjoying life and looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with her cousin, Gabby. When he mother calls asking her to reconsider and join the family for Thanksgiving, Annie feels guilty, but refuses to agree. She’ll see them at Christmas anyway.
Tragedy strikes that Thanksgiving when a mudslide demolishes her family home and kills her parents, her brother and his wife, and her baby niece. Annie thinks she’ll never recover from the tragedy. Gabby suggests that Annie think about the place where she was happiest and go back there. Willing to try anything, Annie returns to the cottage in Oregon and with the help of new friends, particularly Keaton, an artist who knows what it is to feel alone, she begins to heal.
This is a wonderful romance for summer. It reads quickly and the characters are people you’d like to meet. This is not just a boy-meets-girl romance. Keaton and Annie are adults who have been injured and are looking to heal. This is a story of finding love, acceptance and a place to call home.
If you enjoy romance with characters that grow and change in a beautiful small town setting, you’ll want to take this book this book to the beach, or just enjoy it in your living room.
I received this book from Penguin Random House for this review.
Annie Marlow is wallowing in despair. She has suffered unimaginable loss and can't quite get her life back on track. She is looking for a place that she can call home. She remembers a cottage in a small town which gives her fond memories of her family. She quickly finds a job in the town of Oceanside and manages to rent the very cottage she wants.
The quiet and tender giant Keaton cannot believe his eyes. Years ago, as a teen, he was enamored with beautiful Annie. She is now back in the town of Oceanside. What's more is that she is as kind as he remembered her to be and the two hit it off quite well. She mesmerized him then, and she does even more so now.
Annie was truly waylaid by grief and depression as she lost her family due to a horrible tragedy. She is broken, and can never imagine healing. However, in Oceanside, things begin to change. It seems that she might have found the peace she desperately needs. Hope begins to shine through and it seems possible that Annie can actually heal. During this marvelous revelation, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Keaton. However, things take a sharp turn, threatening what was growing between Annie and Keaton.
The prolific Debbie Macomber has written a slow, warm love story, one that captured my attention right from the very start. This tender romance has fabulous characters that are very easy to like. There is also a secondary story that is developed here. The stories were compelling. I was definitely drawn to the sensitivity in this book, especially where the secondary characters were concerned. As with the previous books that Debbie Macomber has written, this one did not disappoint. I definitely look forward to her next book.
Many thanks to Ballantine Books and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
4.5 heart Warming Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Debbie Macomber! We’re not on Blossom Street anymore! This book had all the feels... it touched on every single emotion you have! Wow... just wow!
I picked up this book expecting a sweet fluffy love story and what I got was so much more... this was a book about loss, heartbreak, friendship, family, second chances, and so much more... at times during this book I was reaching for a tissue and at other times I couldn’t get the big smile off my face... what a beautiful story about resilience and peoples need for one another...
Annie has suffered a major tragedy... so to heal her wounded heart she returns to a favorite vacation spot from when she was a kid...Annie was a tremendously likable character and you really felt for her and wanted her heart to heal...Keaton was a big strong insecure man who made you want to reach through the pages to give him a big hug and tell him he is a good person! The relationship between these two was so lovely and so much more than a simple romance... it was a healing love... The secondary characters in the story added even more emotion to this book.... The book touched on some pretty serious subject matter, but it handled it with grace and thought....
I think this is Debbie Macomber’s best book yet! So if you are a fan of this author I cannot encourage you enough to pick this one up and if you have not read anything from her yet... what are you waiting for? This is a book about the power of love, but it is so much more than a romance! The love in this book is not only romantic love, but the love between friends... so as much as I adored the romance between Keaton and Annie, I loved the friendship that bloomed between all these characters in this book!
Absolutely recommend... you will want to find your own cottage by the sea💕
*** many thanks to Valentine Books for my copy of this delightful book ***
No one writes books quite like this author! You always feel like you are drawn into the place and family that she is writing about. I can’t imagine going through the things that Annie did, but am glad she found a place to start to heal.
I have enjoyed this author’s books for many years and will continue to do so.
Sweet book to read on a lazy Sunday afternoon! Debbie is one of the best authors and this book is a sweet reminder of it.
I am always a fan of Debbie Macomber books and, once again, this one does not disappoint.
The book was a quick read but very enjoyable. As usual, I fell in love with the characters she created. I would love to see more books that incorporate them!
If you are looking for a book for the beach or a rainy day on the couch, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this pick.
