I've been enjoying this author's sexy novels for the most part, although there have been a couple of them that I wasn't crazy about, but happily for me, this novel, the first in her new Kinky Spurs series, was one of the better ones, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It gets a 4-star rating from this reader.
Kinky Spurs is a country western bar in a small town in Colorado, and the heroine, Emma Monroe, works there as a bartender, a far cry from her previous position as Executive Creative Director at an elite NYC company. She's been seeing and sleeping with the CEO, Jake, for the past year, believing that this relationship was true love, yet keeping it quiet because she works for him. She was on her way to let him know that her grandmother had died and that she needed to take some time off when she heard Jake talking. What he was saying shocked her to the core. Clearly Jake wasn't in love with her, and now that word was out that she'd been sleeping with the boss and co-workers were assuming her got her promotion on her back, she was devastated, fled the building and fled her job.
As it turned out, her late grandmother loved rescuing abandoned, injured and abused animals at her Colorado farm, the place that Emma spent her childhood summers, and Grams left it all to Emma. Clearly, she still needed a paying job and Kinky Spurs was the answer. It was there that she met the sexy, dirty-talking cowboy in the title, Shep Blackshaw, and it was clear from the first time they made eye contact that they had amazing chemistry. But considering that she'd made such a horrible mistake with thinking that her former boss really cared about her, she's not quite ready to trust her own judgement or the insta-lust between her and Shep.
Shep had his own 2-year relationship end badly, so he's up front with Emma, letting her know at the outset that he's only interested in her sexually, and if she's up for that, he's certainly ready, willing and able, and he's happy to help her learn to take care of the animals her grandmother left in her charge. Emma couldn't resist him and neither could this reader because in addition to his being smokin' hot, he was an appealing character on every level--good, kind, understanding, strong, capable, honest and considerate, the kind of take-charge lover most women dream about, and everything you could possibly want in a sexy cowboy romance hero.
Of course there are bumps along the way, Emma's doubts and her ambivalent feelings for Jake, the fact that she's a city girl and doesn't really know yet whether or not her move to Colorado is permanent, and the fact that the Blackshaw cattle business that was started by Shep's late father, who died six months earlier, and which Shep and his brothers learn is now at the brink of bankruptcy, but try as Emma might, Shep is pretty darn irresistible, and the relationship moves forward, from just sex to something far more lasting, at least until Emma comes home one day and discovers Jake sitting on her front porch.
The only part of this novel I wasn't over the moon about was the way Emma handled finding Jake on her porch. Personally, I'd have sent him packing immediately, and I thought that Emma was far too kind, and far too willing to forgive what he did to her. I thought her character had developed a bit more backbone since she'd arrived in Colorado and met Shep.
While I'm not usually a fan of insta-lust or insta-love in a romance novel, in this particular novel it worked like a charm for me. There were plenty of well-written, hot and steamy scenes, and I thought that both of these characters were well-drawn, they each had a backstory, and I also liked the secondary characters--Shep's mom and his brothers, Chase and Nash, who, I assume, will be featured in upcoming novels in this series, and, if they are anything like this one, I'll be eagerly awaiting their release.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
This book was pretty good. Emma Monroe has returned to River Rock, Colorado, after the death of her grandmother and some drama from her old job. After settling in she does have some accidents that throw her directly into Shep's arms.
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy of this book
Overall this book was pretty good. I liked Shep and Emma's relationship. They both had issues and although it took some time they both were able to help each other in what they thought were impossible situations. I can't wait for Shep's brother and Emma's bosses story. That seems like it is going to be really good.
A steamy new romance series from Stacey Kennedy, the Kinky Spurs series looks like it is going to be a definite star. Emma Monroe is nursing a broken heart and inheriting her beloved grandmother's ranch that doubles as an animal sanctuary in the perfect place to recover. Working at Kinky Spurs to make ends meet is a means to an end. But Shep Blackshaw is an added bonus.
When an unusually troubled horse is brought to her ranch, Shep realises that this animal is more than she can handle. And her getting injured confirm his worst fears. He must help her rehabilitate the horse before she kills herself trying. And being in such close proximity to her is no hardship especially when the chemistry they share is off the charts.
Looking for a new start, Emma headed to River Rock, Colorado never expecting to meet Shep Blackshaw, the sexy cattle rancher. Their chemistry is undeniable, but when their sexy nights blend into emotion-filled days, can Emma and Shep turn this connection into something more?
The chemistry between Shep and Emma sizzles right off the pages! Seriously thought I saw some smoke coming out of my kindle. Emma and Shep's connection is quick and sexy and that chemistry kept pulling them towards one another.
An excellent start to this new series! I can't wait for more!
City meets country. This book was instant attraction, for sure. I enjoyed these characters, Emma and Shep wanted an escape with other with no strings attached. Emma had a choice to make about her life what she needed out of it. Solid book!
I had a lot of fun with this one. I love small town romances, this one certainly fit the bill. Shep was super hot and I loved watching him woo Emma. A quick read that entertained me.
I received this book from Netgalley to review.
Emma has left New York leaving everything and everyone behind to live in her grandmother's house. After having a secret relationship with her boss and then being found out her fellow employees don't believe her promotion was fairly given.
Feeling lost, Emma decides to work at the bar "Kinky Spurs". Here she meets Shep, the oldest in a cattle ranching family.
Together they begin a relationship that becomes very steamy. They both work to solve their problems, but can they do it together .
Since I rarely read cowboy stories I was curious if this book written by Author Stacey Kennedy would catch my interest. Yes, yes it did. I disappeared into Shep and Emma's world and didn't look up till I finished the book.
The richly detailed storyline offers the reader the opportunity to live in the cowboy world that they may never experience in person. Additionally, the heat in Shep and Emma's relationship burns the pages. Forewarning "Do not read on the airplane or in a crowd. It's that hot!"
City girl, Emma, comes to River Rock, Colorado to nurse a broken heart and stay on the farm she inherits from her deceased grandma to decide what to do with her life. She just wants to be alone and Shep can't leave her alone, so the reader is taken through their relationship of how the city girl learns to be a country girl.
Shep has a definite alpha personality that dominates his need for Emma while he tries to save his family ranch and hold his family together after father dies leaving them in debt. He has a big heart filled with love for his mother and brothers which he opens to include Emma much to his surprise.
The resolution to this story is rewarding as the city girl teaches the country boys how to diversify and she finally learns what makes her happy.
5 STARS making this reader a bonafide cowboy enthusiast.
This book was enjoyable, with a few twists and turns. At first, I found it difficult to engage with the main characters but then found the flow and read the rest in practically one sitting. Overall it was entertaining and I will be looking out for more Stacey Kennedy books in the future.
Dirty-Talking Cowboy is the first book in the Kinky Spurs series by Stacey Kennedy. Emma Monroe has returned to River Rock, Colorado, after the death of her grandmother. Now she’s inherited a farm full of abused animals and she’s working as a waitress at the local hotspot, Kinky Spurs. The last thing Emma wants in her life is a man, as she’s still recovering from a recent heartbreak. But when a sensual and powerful cowboy, Shep Blackshaw enters her life, Emma begins to want things she shouldn't. Shep knows sex shouldn’t be on his mind. He’s got a world of responsibility on his shoulders. He’s attempting to save his late father’s cattle ranch, Blackshaw Cattle Company, from foreclosure. But Emma’s heated reactions to his touch make ignoring her impossible. She’s the perfect distraction to make him forget that his father’s company is a sinking ship. While their nights only heat up, soon emotions become tangled into the mix.
Dirty-Talking Cowboy is a hot a steamy romance, with an alpha hero that is a little too perfect. Shep is sexy, a hard worker, and while he is controlling he also takes the time to be sure of the emotional well-being of those he cares about. I love that he can be slow and gentle in his conversations and takes care of those around him, and hat consent is a priority in bedroom- that is not always the case with strong alpha heroes. Emma is sweet and smart, reeling from heartbreak and the loss of her grandmother. Changes and grief are taking up most of her head-space as she tries to heal and move forward. I liked that they are both pretty self aware of their issues, and what they need. I like that they talk through the issues and do not force things. The attraction and chemistry between them is powerful, maybe a bit too much to be real but since I read for escape I was fine with that. My biggest problem with the book is that Shep is too perfect. He is strong, willing to work hard, is patient even when he needs to struggle with it. Emma is fairly perfect too, but at least she is struggling with trust, and allowing herself to feel. I enjoyed the secondary characters as much as the main players, and look forward to the next two books in the series, since the story made the next couples pretty obvious. Now, I really need to read those books because I want to see them find their happy endings.
Dirty-Talking Cowboy is a steamy contemporary romance. The sex is steamy, the characters a little too perfect, but the ride is highly entertaining and well worth the read.
O forse no???
This was a good read that I enjoyed from the start in this first book in this series. Emma and Shep were well written characters that had chemistry. Their story moved along well and kept me interested in seeing where it went next. This wasn't the cliché city girl/country boy read and I enjoyed it from the start. I would love to see where the series goes next with Shep's brothers.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
The beginning of this one had potential. Hot cowboy? Check. Horses? Check. No matter how I tried, though, I couldn’t keep engaged with reading it. The mane female character, Emma, got a bit annoying, and as much as I like Shep, there are other books on my shelf I’d rather be reading.
Sad to say it was a DNF at 38%. :(
Incredible sexy read with a amazing Aphla male lead. Off the charts chemistry with a guaranteed HEA.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4 stars
Emma has exiled herself to her late grandmother's farm after quitting her job after her former boss and lover had thrown her under the bus for their romance. He had let his boss talk about her and insinuated that her promotion was due to their affair.
Shep Blackshaw likes the look of Emma, the new waitress at the Kinky Spur. He's not sure what the city girl is doing in Colorado or how long she's staying at her grandmother's farm, but he knows he wants to get to know her better and once he does, he doesn't want her leave.
The characters in this book are well written and the sparks between them jump off the page. Both Shep and Emma are complex characters and both are dealing with issues that affect more than just themselves.

M/F Romance
Emma is hurting after giving her heart to someone she thought was in a relationship with her that was equal. After learning that it wasn't equal, or on the same level that she thought it was, she was heartbroken. Throw that on top of the fact that her grandmother has passed away and she's kind of a mess. Emotionally, she is jumbled. She is a city girl living on a ranch and trying to take care of animals, which she doesn't really know how to do. When she is working at the local bar, she is able to put on a brave face and interact with the locals.
When Shep walks in and sees Emma, he knows that despite everything that's on his plate, he wants to put Emma on there too. His father has left him kind of a mess and it's up to him and his brothers to figure out whether or not the business that has been in their family for a while is worth saving or if they should sell and get out.
Shep and Emma have sparks that mesh well together. They intrigue each other and perplex each other in equal measure. While their communication isn't stellar, it helps create the complexities in the story. Both have things that they need to work through, but it's only together that they will become their best versions of themselves.

This is the first book in a new series, and I have no doubt that there are more great stories to come. We are immersed in the Colorado cowboy scene from the very beginning, and it took no time at all to be centred in the location, with the key protagonists, and keen to learn more.
Emma has had her world turned upside down and as we learn how and why, it is clear that she had a lucky break that she had to come to her Gram’s farm and regroup. She is a young woman who has worked so hard for her ambitions that she has rather forgotten the beauty of the simple things, and being back where she spent her summer holidays is teaching her again. Irrespective of the wonderful romance, I found this hiatus in her rushing around to be very well written, and even when Jake looks to be about to ruin everything, she proves that she has learned the lessons about trust, love, and home.
Shep is pretty much the perfect man – certainly for Emma – and whilst he is reluctant to admit that she is his perfect woman, even to himself, he also behaves with great charm and honesty. The connection that they make is strong and true – and comes from their battered hearts.
I enjoyed the business elements, although it seemed difficult to believe that they were all so oblivious of the state of the farm business, but I enjoyed how it was turned around, and had no doubt that Emma's skills would be engaged in the revival. The two other brothers, who will no doubt get their chance at love, are very different to Shep, so it is going to be fun watching them fall... especially Nash, as he needs bringing down a peg or two!
If you enjoy hot, sexy cowboy romances, then this will be just your thing. If you have not tried one before, then this would be a good place to start!
So there are books that I start to read then get to a point in the book that I either don't like a character or a spot in the book and then put the book down read other ones and come back to the original book, this was one of the books. The reason I put the book down at 40% into the book was for two reasons. One reason was I found Emma to be a very whinny person and I really want to tell her suck it up buttercup as she was getting annoying. The second reason was because it hit the part where they were doing some BDSM which is fine for some people but I just didn't want to read about it. Now weeks later when I picked the book up to finish I was pleasantly surprised. There really wasn't any of the typical BDSM so the sex scenes were not bad to read. I still thought Emma was a whinny person, she grew on me a little but not much. Shep saved this whole book and I still think he could do better then Emma. But overall after finishing this book I did like it and would the next two in the series for Chase and Nash.
*I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.*
The title alone should peek your interest.. This is the start of a great series and amazing characters. Awesome writing too. Can't wait to read more on the brothers...
My favorite line is:
“I’m a better me with you.”
Let me tell ya’ll something …. Stacey Kennedy writes exceptional sexy-sexy #TRUTH I can count on one hand with fingers remaining the number of authors that hit this particular mark dead on like a bullseye EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. You know what else she is exceptional at? … She wraps your heart around her characters and makes you feel so damn much! GAH
Emma and Shep stole my heart from page one. And don’t get me started on Bentley *happy sigh* The story doesn’t start off really smooth, it felt off to me at times, but it quickly turned to greatness. This is not a lengthy courtship story. It’s a sexually driven inta-lust/love connection and it works for these characters very well. It’s exactly what both Emma and Shep needed in their lives. So kudos to the author for recognizing that and making sure she delivered.
I am beyond excited to get my hands on more Blackshaw men and the women who will eventually tame them :) This is going to be another outstanding series by an author you can really count on to hit the marks!
Dirty-Talking Cowboy
A Kinky Spurs Novel Book #1
Release Date: June 5, 2018
Review copy provided by the publisher
Sweet baby Jesus, I love me some hot cowboy romance novels! I was excited to be given an ARC of this book. Stacey Kennedy never disappoints...and did I mention the hot cowboy part?
Emma is nursing a broken heart. She lost her beloved grandmother and the man she has been seeing for the past year shattered her.
Shep is all kinds of yumminess! He's a cowboy through and through. From the moment Emma moved to River Rock Colorado, he's wanted her.
I fell hard for Shep. He's got that cowboy swagger that I adore, but he's not cocky. He's just a really nice guy with a filthy mouth that would make most women drop their panties!
The chemistry is off the wall with these two. Seriously, the damn pages sizzled every time they hit the sheets...or the wall.
I loved how vulnerable Emma was. She didn't make it a secret that part of her heart still cared deeply for her ex. I liked how conflicted she felt. It made the whole situation feel more realistic.
Shep works hard at earning her trust while trying to keep his families business open. He's being pulled in many directions, but his sense of loyalty was very admirable. I can't say it enough, I really loved this hero!
The story was fast paced, and made me want to ignore everyone around me. I found myself laughing at the witty banter between Shep and his brothers, Chase and Nash.
Speaking of Chase and Nash...there's going to be more sexy cowboy books from this amazing author! I seriously can't wait for Nash to be brought to his knees. Now there's a man who is crazy cocky!
This book is a fantastic start to what promises to be a decadently delicious series!
Dirty-Talking Cowboy (Kinky Spurs, #1)
by Stacey Kennedy
I was given this arc via NetGalley.
Let me preface this review by saying this. I was definitely not the right audience for this book. So, I will try to be fair in the review.
As always, I love cowboy reads. However, I seesawed back and forth on this one. The writing the plot the scene all were good. What I did not like is the back and forth of the heroine regarding her ex as well as the hero with talk that did not really fit coming from him. Once you bypass those areas , the book deserves a chance. The writer is obviously talented and obviously one I will keep my own eyes open for. The writing itself is creative and imaginative and captures the reader from the start. Too bad this was just outside of my enjoyment line. I write this review of my own opinion freely and willingly.
