Supurb read. A gruesome murder takes place and as Robyn and team try to get to the bottom of it more murders stack up. Time is running out for Robyn to solve the case and the culprit is a master of deception even to those trained to see beyond the facts. Great plot, lots of action and the sub plot developing nicely. We get closer to what happened in Roybn’s past but still are left hanging.
This series gets better and better

I have loved this authors previous books in the series and couldn’t wait to read this one. I was hoping it would put to bed some twists revealed previously, but it only answered some of the questions before literally blowing everything to pieces.

The crimes in this story appear to be unrelated, but as Robyn works her way through the evidence it becomes clear that they are actually being committed by the same person. What she can’t figure out is why. Unfortunately by the time she works things out, more lives are at stake. Will everyone escape unscathed?

Throughout the story we also have a different mystery running, what really happened to Robyn’s fiancée Davies? Will she ever get the answers she seeks, or is she destined to never find out the truth? Only time will tell.

Many thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for providing a copy.

The Chosen Ones by Carol Wyer is book 5 in the DI Robyn Carter series. After the way book 4 ended I could not wait to get stuck into this one and find out what happened next.

Robyn Carter is one of my favourite female detectives at the moment. She is strong, respected and well liked by her team. Underneath it all she has her own demons and finally in this book she starts to feel like she can move on with her life. Although, just like the rest of the series Carol Wyer leaves us on yet another cliffhanger. Seriously, I need book 6 now!!

This books sees Robyn and the team called to the scene of a gruesome murder, a body of a local man is found hanging like a scarecrow in a corn field. As they set about working this case more locals are murdered and they begin to find links between the victims. Seemingly average people are hiding dark secrets and Robyn needs to start to find the killer before they strike again.

I loved this book, could not get enough of it and was sad when it was finished. Easily 5 stars from me. Thanks again to Bookouture and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book to read in exchange for my honest views.

This is my first book by this author and the sixth of the series, but it worked as a stand alone. It was very well written and the police work thoroughly researched, to give an intriguing tale that starts when a young man is murdered and found strung up like a scarecrow. There are lots of twists to keep you guessing and it all seems very real. A satisfying read for lovers of this genre.

Robyn and her team of detectives are called to a macabre crime scene when a body is discovered in a field strung up like a scarecrow. Signs of violence indicate a revenge-filled angry killer. When a mate of the man and possible suspect turns up dead it’s up to Robyn to catch the killer before they strike again.

I look forward to each episode of these Robyn Carter crime thrillers. Carol Wyer gives her detectives few clues to work with and the reader is guaranteed enough red herring plot threads to be as frustrated as the detectives. The police procedural aspects are top rate and while patience is required, good solid police work always wins out in the end. The thriller portion of this crime thriller is excellent and the people involved surprising. This is a definite page turner and a pleasure to read. Even the ongoing issues in Robyn’s personal life show progress, if only baby steps.

Waiting patiently for book 6.

ARC received with thanks from Bookouture via NetGalley for review.

Wow, are we really on book five of this series!? As for all series, usual rules apply. Although the main story is self-contained, to get the very best from the main characters in terms of backstory and development, you really want to start from the beginning and read in order. They've all been really good so, what's stopping you?!
So, in this book Robyn and her team are called out to the scene of a bit of a gruesome murder. A man has been found in a corn field, strung up like a scarecrow. He's the son of a prominent business man, could his death be linked there? But then his friend is also found dead and the investigation takes a different path. As the team continue their investigations, there's another murder. But how does this one fit in, if indeed it does? With plenty of speculation as to motive and what links the murders and a healthy list of suspects, can Robyn and her team cut through the noise and a bit of red tape and bring the perpetrator to justice before more deaths occur?
This book contains all the things I like from a series in this genre. There's a good core cast of interesting characters who interact naturally and sometimes bring a bit of light relief to the crimes being investigated, a cracking crime to get to grips with trying to solve before the detectives get there (I was almost there, just not quite all), and and overall story that gets on with itself nicely throughout. There is no superfluous padding which is very refreshing and the pacing is darned near perfect, ramping up nicely towards the final climactic showdown.
The story and characters are so good in this series, I can even forgive the author and her ongoing, unresolved series arc which ended in a bit of a cliffhanger in the last book and pretty much does a similar thing here too, although we do get a bit more information regarding the situation. I do hope that the author doesn't keep me hanging for too much longer though, I'm getting a bit impatient and also worried that the reveal, when it comes, won't have been worth the wait and all the teasing which I have experienced before with ongoing series arcs. I imagine it must also be annoying for Robyn with her "will they won't they" potential relationship teetering on the edge of happening, it would be nice to get her some resolution one way or the other. Maybe in the next instalment, bit of luck!
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

What can I say? I was totally hooked! I had never read a book from this author before and after reading this one, I deeply regret this.
I liked the way the story was constructed. The actions happening in the present were mixed with fragements of the past of the killer and the author was able to keep me in the dark for a very long time. A lot was going on, but it was never confusing and it attacted my attention the whole time.
For me it was an unputdownable book and the least I can say is that she went out with a bang.
Thank you, Carol Wyer (you gained a fan), Bookouture and Netgalley.

When a "whodunit" is well written and when, half way through, you still have no idea who the perpetrator is, it is a sure sign of a really great read. The Chosen Ones by Carol Wyer is all of those things. This book reads like something you could imagine coming across in the newspapers. It is set in the north of England with characters you might come across in everyday life (although some hopefully not!).

The son of a wealthy property developer is murdered and his body posed in strange circumstances, soon followed by two seemingly unrelated murders, Robyn and her team must use all endeavours to try to link what appear to be unrelated events and people to try to solve the murders. There are lots of red herrings, twists and turns in the story which I really enjoyed as it is not often that I don't figure out the plot, and so I was very happily guessing right up until the very end.

Robyn is a very likeable character and the procedures the police team went through to unmask the murderer felt very true to life. I didn't feel that starting on book 5 of the series hindered me in any way, in fact it I am now going to voraciously devour all of Carol's previous books. This book is a superb read for fans of crime fiction and police procedurals. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thank you very much to NetGalley, Bookouture and of course Ms Wyer herself for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love this author's books and this series is one of my favourite crime series ever, so I was eagerly awaiting this book. And what a book it is! From the first page to the last this is a gripping, tense, fast paced and mind bending, heart racing roller-coaster of a read. I could not put it down! I just had to keep turning the pages, everything else forgotten as I raced to the end! This author gets better with every book and I absolutely cannot wait for her next!

The Chosen Ones by Carol Wyer and is the 5th novel in the Detective Robin Carter series.
The story starts when the body of Jordan Kilby, trussed up on a scarecrow pole, with crows pecking at him is found in a corn field. Jordan is the son of wealthy business man Nathaniel Jones Kilby who is responsible of several redevelopment projects, including the field that Jordan had died in.
DI Robyn Carter leads the investigation and discovers that Jordan wasn’t well liked by his work colleagues and football team mates. Not only because of his father but they thought he was quite weird due to him be into Marvel comics and figurines, he was always under the thumb by his girlfriend Rebecca but, he was also mad about cycling. They thought his death was due to rivalry but, when they find his friend Owen dead as well, DI Robyn Carter knows that she has a serial killer on her hands.
I have read and enjoyed all books in this series and this was another thought provoking, gripping fast paced thriller, with lots of red herrings to keep you guessing throughout. But I didn’t think it was intense as the others and I kind of guessed who-dunnit before we found out who it was. The cliff hanger was a bit samey. So because of this I give it 4 stars.
Thank you Bookoutre and Netgalley for a copy of this book for an honest review.

The is the fifth book in the excellent Robyn Carter series and each book surpasses the last.

When Jordan Kilby is found brutally murdered in a field, DI Robyn Carter is called with her team to investigate. When Jordan’s friend is also found murdered, Robyn has to decide whether the two murders are related, on the discovery of a third person brutally murdered, it seems they might have a serial killer on their hands. When Jordan Kilby’s father refuses to help with the investigation, Robyn and her team will need all their experience to try and solve the case.

A fast paced well written book with an excellent plot, also interwoven within the story is the subplot regarding the mystery of Robyn’s fiance Davis. An excellent series which I would recommend.

I read The Chosen Ones over a few days. I’ve read the previous books in the DI Robyn Carter series and after the cliffhanger book four left us on, I wanted to read this in the hope that we found out what happened to Davies. Sadly I struggled with this book. The premise was good but for me it just wasn’t executed in the best way. I do love female detective leads but sadly this doesn’t seem to be on a par with other authors I’ve read.

It seemed to be really hard to get into and the only thing compelling me to the end was the thought the Davies mystery would finally be put to bed. It wasn’t, we were just left with another cliffhanger. This is only my opinion though as I know others have read and loved this book. As for book six, please finish the Davies storyline.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.

Firstly, thank you to Bookouture, the author and of course Net Galley, so pleased to read another great author, and yes another great find, sits alongside an array of great detective authors including Robert Bryndza, Angela Marsons, Mel Sherratt , Patricia Gibney and Sharon Bolton.

They had not been forgiven. And they would never be forgotten ….
When a doting young father is murdered and his body discovered in a cornfield for his family to see, it’s a harrowing new case for Detective Robyn Carter. But just as Robyn starts to investigate, a popular local doctor and young mother, is found dead outside her surgery.

As Robyn tries to find the link between the victims, she uncovers a dark web of secrets. Were these much-loved members of the community as innocent as they seemed?

The killer has a message for Robyn and the carefully chosen victims. Can Robyn get to the truth before she becomes the next target?

A well paced, gripping, clever story filled with lots of suspects, and also a great team working with DI Robyn Carter, a very realistic character.

A great shock ending, with an added climax at the end which makes this series even more readable, and also tells me which I had read the first four beforehand !

Another series to catch up with, and another great new author to keep us with, thanks.

A clear four star.

I love this series of Detective Robyn Carter. The Chosen Ones’ s by Carol Wyer is the fifth book and I found this book just as good as her first book in this series. It's full of twists and turns which made it a brilliant read! Plus, will keep you guessing till the end.
The beginning opens with a gruesome murder of Jordan Kilby, his body was discovered in a field. Other murders follow.
Are these murders connected? What are the connections?

This book will not disappoint......Carol's books just get better and better.......I found this a Brilliant read

This is the first time I have read any books from this author and as usual I start reading the series on the fifth book. I might have been hindered a bit by this so I possibly didn’t get everything out of this read as I should. Until I was more than halfway through the book I stayed confused and had a terrible time keeping track of the different murders that seemed to have no connection whatsoever. To further make things harder there was a background “then” in the story which seemed to have little to do with the story until that is when you find out it has everything to do with the story. If this wasn’t confusing enough (and this might be because I came in the middle of a series) DI Robyn Carter has a fiancé who might be dead or not in Morocco on some secret mission. Many times in the book I was ready to give up but I persevered and am happy I did. I will most likely end up reading the rest of the series and recommend it to others. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my unbiased review. Four stars.

I would like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Chosen Ones’ written by Carol Wyer in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
The body of Jordan Kilby is discovered tied to a post in a field with stab wounds to his chest, and his friend Owen Falcon is killed. Then Dr Lucy Harding is mown down and driven over several times in the surgery car park by her own car. Can DI Robyn Carter and her team make the connection between the three deaths before she’s taken her off the case?
Carol Wyer has produced yet another enthralling crime thriller with a plot that appears simple but is anything but. As the story progresses the tension mounts so that I need to keep reading to discover the truth. There are lots of suspects, twists and turns, plus a few red herrings for good measure, and all the time there’s a man standing in the shadows waiting for Robyn to return home. Could it be Robyn’s missing partner, Davies, who’s believed to be dead, or someone else? This novel is gripping with an exciting conclusion that I wasn’t expecting and is well worth reading.

4/5 stars! I am thoroughly enjoying this series. and D. I. Robyn Carter. I was so excited when I saw the cover and synopsis of this book! This is book number 5 in the series and I highly suggest you begin at the beginning with book 1. My favorite thus far is book number 3, The Missing Children, however this is a close second!

The "then" chapters were very intriguing in this one, the story behind the who why and where was great. I would have liked more of it and for the book to have started with a "then" chapter from the very beginning. A body is discovered where a scarecrow used to reside. The body at first is mistaken for a scarecrow by the nearby neighbor with crows circling and pecking at it. Enter D.I. Robyn and her team to investigate. I am really enjoying this series and eagerly looking forward to book number 6. I would like to see more depth to Robyn's character as well as her team. And that ending? Wowza.... now that is an intriguing story line that I want more of!

A huge thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for graciously allowing me an advanced copy of this book! Always greatly appreciated!

Starting with the gruesome murder of Jordan Kilby, whose body was discovered in a field, there are other equally heinous murders that follow soon thereafter. There is a common thread, definite connections. But what? Can DI Robyn Carter solve this case before she is removed from this investigation? Robyn clearly senses powerful links to the murders, and follows every lead possible to identify the murderer. In so doing, she develops a bond of sorts to Jordan's girlfriend.

Hand over mouth! Yes, that was my reaction! There are two shockingly specific twists that raised the hairs on the back of my neck. Oh my! Most of the time with thrillers the twists come so fast and hard that I am shocked as to who the killer is. However, in The Chosen Ones, I knew for quite some time. Even so, I had loads of fun rooting out the motive while Robyn and team raced to find out. Well done Carol Wyer.

Also, during the progression of this series, there have been clues of a different sort involving the death of Robyn's fiancé Davies. Is he really dead after all? Then there is Ross, a private investigator and Robyn’s cousin. It was great to see a bit more of Ross in this book.

When I received this for review, I purchased, read and reviewed the first four books in this series. I generally do this with any new authors or series that I learn about. Doing so allows me to enjoy familiarity with the characters in the books that I read. Having done so here really pleased me. For one thing, I have discovered a new favorite author! I not only recommend this book, but the entire series as well. Oh do I ever hope we will be seeing more of Robyn.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC to review.
