Another fantastic novel from Charlie Gallagher. Really enjoyed getting to know George and following the two cases through to their conclusion

Wow, I don't really know where to start with my review for this book, there was such a lot that was excellent about it - you are thrown straight in to the story and hooked right to the fantastic ending! It is so, so good!!

The characters were brilliant and they really made the story. The plot was excellent and the writing style was the same superb one that I have come to expect from Charlie.

Having a young daughter myself I think I found the book even more addictive, I had to know how the book was going to end and I flew through the story -I most certainly wasn't disappointed by the story!

Five stars from me - a brilliant story! Very highly recommended - grab your copy now!!

Having never read anything by this author I was pleased to be given a copy to read by Net Galley. Then She ran features Police Detective George Elms. A no nonsense determined copper who will do what it takes to catch the villain. Throughout the story we follow George as he works hard to solve the crime, whilst struggling with domestic events in his personal life.
The book starts somewhat like a formula one race, fast off the starting line and continues with plenty of action and twists and turns. What initially appears as 2 separate crimes become linked leading George to a final arrest. What Gallagher lacks in some of his character development he more than makes up for with fast paced action and a well written storyline which kept me hooked. I got caught up with the fast paced action, with didn't relent. Gallagher leads us down a path where the reader begins to form a suspect as does George, then with just as much pace and drama the story twists until we cannot guess who is going to be arrested for the killings. A great read that left me wanting to read more by Gallagher

This was my first meeting with Charlie Gallagher and I thought "Then She Ran" was a standalone. However, it's quite clearly part of a series. This didn't detract from the story or the enjoyment at all, which is always a sign of good writing. I do feel I would have benefited from knowing some of the history, though, but the author did give some very clever and helpful hints.

I got a bit lost with all the characters with names beginning with J - Jenny, Joseph/Joe, Jimmy, even George has the J sound. The author got a bit confused too, calling Jimmy Joe in one place and Louse Jenny. I found the character of Jenny a little unbelievable, not really very maternal, and not very feminine in places. For example, when her first thought should have been of her daughter, she was gazing out of a window and describing the scene, and clean underwear was an afterthought. I didn't think that the George character was particularly likeable either, nor a particularly good copper. I guessed the "massive twist" too, very early on.

The fast pace kept me reading and turning the pages and while it may have finished a little abruptly, I would be interested to read other titles by the same author and in the same series, as well as standalones.

This is a brilliant book, which starts off with a bang and an exhilarating pace, which never drops off until the end.

The story starts off with a man and woman running away from a gang, with their little girl. The action hots up with another murder of an old lady, where we are left wondering how the two murders are linked, if at all.

The characters are really well written and have a great depth to them that you don’t always find in crime books, and the plot line was brilliant, with lots of lovely twists that I didn’t know where the story was going from one moment to the next.

I am really starting to like Charlie’s books and will be going through his back catalogue to start getting to know the complete back story of George as I have only read End Game before.

Overall this is yet another great book by Charlie and I can’t wait to read more by him.

Amazing book! From the firsr chapter i was completely drawn in by it. Jennys husband is shot in front of her eyes after he makes them leave and run from people . Jenny had no clue why someone is chasing her , she has to make a heartwrenching decision at first to leave her child to keep her safe. I cannot even imagine this. There were so many twists and turns in this book i couldnt put it down definately will read more by this author and reccoment this book.

Joseph wakes Jenny to grab the baby and they have t go. No time for anything else. As soon as they are on the road they are being shot at and when the car crashes Jenny runs with the baby. Soon she sees a police car with no one there so she leaves the baby on the car and keeps running. Everyone who tries to help her have been in danger. In the mean time Detective George Elms is investigating a murder near by, trying to do the best he can while everyone is working on the other situation. What lengths will he go to in order to get help for his case. The story takes us on the journey of some of the characters of the story and what is happening with them. Well wroth the read.

I always enjoy books by this author, they just keep getting better. George Elms is now an inspector with Langhorne police and the latest case starts with a shooting and a woman on the run with her baby. Plenty action, twists and turns and an ending I didn't see coming. Charlie Gallagher is one of the best writers of police procedurals today. It's a 4 stars from me. Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Amazon, Goodreads and Facebook.

I can say without a shadow of a doubt that this book has started with a heart-wrenching bang of intensive suspense. It brought tears to my eyes for Joseph and Jenny and their little baby daughter Isobel aggressively pushed into a fatal situation and Jenny still none the wiser as to why. The perpetrators are trying their very best to kill Jenny and anyone they considered in their path in order to achieve their goal. With all this happening the police department newly promoted George needed to rest his personal life on the shelf although its all messed up and get back into the game for it was all hands on deck. The sh-t is hitting the fan blades and it ain’t missing none. A true fast pace action suspense, that is quite exciting, with an all-consuming intensive storyline that bites in regions you don’t want to mention. I LOVE THIS BOOK, no joke it’s awesome.

It was OK. I liked the portion with Jenny running and not knowing why someone wants to kill her, but I wasn't impressed with Detective George Elms.

I personally found this book slow moving with a lot of detail that kept bogging me down. I ended up skipping over much of the writing to just read the dialogue.
Jenny and her husband Joseph are on the run from some dangerous criminals with their young daughter. Joseph is shot but Jenny escapes and leaves the baby on the hood of a car. Jenny goes through many days always on the run and finally is caught by the same men who got Joseph.
George Elm and Emily Riker are detectives trying to solve the question of who does the baby belong too? Who shot at Joseph and Jenny in the park, and also another different murder of a elderly women in her home. Are the two crimes connected?

The book started with a bang and drew me straight in to the story. I haven't read anything by Charlie Gallagher before, but I enjoyed this enough to want to go and read previous books. The main character was likable, but is human and has flaws. The book is full of twists, and kept me guessing all the way through. A very enjoyable read.

Another gripping instalment in this well established series. Fast paced with a complex storyline and just enough humour. Gallagher' s day job provides a rare authenticity to his writing that makes for a very compelling read.

5 stars (if I could but give it more…)

George Elms is back in the fast-paced and exciting new novel from Charlie Gallagher.

Jenny Harris is having a nice lie-in with her four-month old daughter, Isobel “Issy.” Suddenly her boyfriend Joseph is telling her to get up and hurry up. They need to get out of their hotel and run. They don’t even have time to pack all of their stuff.

Rushing out to the car, Joseph drives off very fast and recklessly. When the car crashes and Joseph is shot, he tells Jenny to get out and run. She has no idea what is going on. She grabs Issy and runs away from the car. Men with guns are following her. Is joseph okay? What is going on? Jenny has no idea.

George is promoted to Detective Inspector against his expectations. He gets to see his daughter Charley
again. She is now nine-years old. He is excited and very pleased. However, Sarah wants a divorce. George is still reeling from Sarah’s news when he is told to respond to an elderly woman shot by a shotgun.

Jenny initially gets away from the killers, but her ordeal is not over yet. She leaves Issy on the bonnet of a police car and knows she’ll be taken care of with them. She can run faster without holding the child in her arms. Issy will be safer. The killers leave a trail of bodies behind them as they pursue Jenny.

George gets assigned to Jenny’s case as well by his boss DCI Whitaker. He is very busy. Meanwhile he has argued with his wife and she tells him he can no longer see his daughter on her birthday.

With the support of some really great people, including his boss DCI Whitaker, George begins to connect the dots. It seems there are circles within circles in these cases. Eventually apprehending one of the thieves at the farmhouse, George and his partner Paul learn a startling revelation.

In a majorly surprise twist, we learn the identity of the killer. I didn’t see that one coming!

DI George Elms is a remarkable man. He interviews Stan who is the husband of the shotgun victim, Janice Wingmore with compassion and kindness. I really like George. I am so glad that George is back at full speed! I like the rest of his team too, although George has a tendency to act the lone wolf sometimes. He is intelligent, persistent and persuasive. This book is extremely well written and plotted, as are all of Charlie Gallagher’s novels. Mr. Gallagher’s use of dialogue is captivating and brilliant. The suspense begins immediately with Joseph and Jenny going on the run with baby Issy and continues at a high level throughout the story. What a remarkable book! I think that perhaps this is my favorite George Elms novel to date. Keep writing, Mr. Gallagher.

I want to very much thank NetGalley and Joffe Books for forwarding to me a copy of this most remarkable book for me to read, enjoy and review.

RUN - That was what her Husband Joseph screamed at her as he lay dying in the shot out wreckage of their rental car.So Jenny Harris grabs their four month old daughter from the back seat and runs for her life. Confused and terrified, she has no idea what is going on,who is chasing her and why.

Meanwhile newly promoted Detective Inspector George Elms has been sent to investigate the fatal shooting of Janice Wingmore in her country kitchen after a confrontation with some violent thieves.

As George struggles to figure out the link between the two cases whilst dealing with his own personal issues,he knows that he must move fast.Jenny is in deadly danger and time is running out.

The opening chapter of this thriller is action packed, intense and gripping after which the story continues in chapters that alternate between George's investigations and Jenny's desperate attempts to out run her pursuers and stay alive. I really liked brave, feisty Jenny and was totally hooked in and rooting for her as she found herself in some seriously intense life threatening situations. The people who were chasing Jenny were sinister and cold hearted, they didn't care who got hurt during their mission to capture her.I didn't like George Elms character during this story.Yes I know personal issues can affect your behaviour but his whining, self pity and miss treatment of others especially Emily Ryker made him not very likeable at times. Being distracted by his personal issues also caused him to make serious mistakes during his investigations.Although I felt the conclusion of the murder at the farmhouse was very sad,I felt that parts of this story line dragged at times and I did figure out quite early in the book who had shot and killed Janice Wingmore although I was wrong about the how and why.

So in the end I was left with mixed feelings about this book.Jenny`s chapters are definitely action packed, intense and gripping and I did enjoy this book enough to finish it.I just didn't enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed Missing. Hopefully by the next book George will have sorted his head out and be a bit more competent and sympathetic.

Fast-paced crime thriller/police procedural featuring Detective Inspector George Elms of the Major Crimes Unit based out of Langthorne Police Station. In this standalone novel by a prolific author of the Langthorne Police Series, a young woman, Jenny, escapes after a shootout on the main roads in Dover kills her boyfriend. She leaves her 4-month-old baby on the bonnet of a police car and runs for her life.

While most of the force is occupied with figuring out the details of the shooting spree, George is tasked with investigating the case of a home invasion robbery gone wrong. The elderly couple was awakened by masked men and the woman, Janice, has been killed by a shotgun blast. Her husband of 60 plus years, Stan Wingmore, is devastated. George attempts to get the information he needs and eventually it comes to light that these two cases may be related.

Lots of action and typical police investigative teamwork though George tends to want to handle everything quickly and on his own. He's definitely a maverick and has personal problems that make him keep on working the case rather than going home on his own. A couple of other team members are mentioned but their characters are never really fully developed, they are more sidekicks that George uses to get what he needs to solve the crimes. The results are a bit unexpected with a little twist toward the end.

Thank you to NetGalley and Joffee Books for the e-book ARC to read and review.

Jenny Harris is staying at a hotel in Cover with her 4-month old baby and her partner Joseph. Joseph wakes her and tells her they have to leave, NOW... As they flee in their rental car, they are attacked by men who shoot up the car and Joseph is hit. Jenny grabs her baby and runs for their lives. She finds a safe spot to leave her baby and goes on the run, having no idea why these men want to kill her.
Detective George Elms is finally meeting his wife, who left him a year ago, taking their daughter. The meeting doesn't go well at all and George is upset and furious. As others of his team investigate the shooting involving Jenny, George is sent to the scene of a fatal shooting at a farm. The farmer's wife was shot in the stomach and killed during an attempted robbery. In the process of the investigation George realizes the two cases are linked, but how and why?
I was in two minds reading this book; Jenny's story was edge-of-your-seat intense, I worried about her and her baby the whole time. George on the other hand was not that likeable in my opinion, his private life and how he handled it was irritating. It affected his work badly, I think; it made him seem weak. As much as this was a pageturner, I can only give it 3 1/2 stars. Hopefully he will be a bit more stable and sympathetic in the next in the series.
