Elena Meyer needs to pass on incriminating info to someone who can figure out the cryptic message. And, someone doesn’t want her to do it and wants it back. Out of choices, Elena runs into traffic so as to deliberately get hit by a car. Her envelope with the info is found by the police and delivered to a familiar character..Kendra Michaels. Kendra, in previous stories, used her enhanced senses to “see” what others don’t. Previously, Kendra had risky surgery that restored her sight after a lifetime of blindness. As a result of the lack of vision, she developed very sensitive senses of taste, smell, touch, and hearing. Now adding in sight, she is formidable in analyzing crime scenes as well as ordinary situations dealing with people.
This story has all the components, a compelling story with enough non-obvious directions as well as interpersonal drama including Kendra’s long time friend Olivia who remains sightless.
This story has something for everyone. While this can be read without prologue, I would suggest reading the previous 4 Kendra novels where you not only learn more about Kendra but also Adam Lynch, a government contract agent. I know once you read one you will read them all. Each one keeps getting better than the next.
I appreciate getting a eArc from the authors, the publisher, and Netgalley.
I eagerly anticipate every Kendra Michaels book. They are my favorite books by Iris Johansen. In this book I enjoyed the chemistry between Kendra and Lynch, and getting to see more of Mercado.
Kendra was born blind & it enhanced her other senses. A miraculous stem cell operation gave her sight but she didn’t lose those enhanced senses. Kendra is on the trail of a serial killer. She was brought into the case when one of the victims was found close to Kendra’s condo, with an envelope with her address in her pocket.
This book was another terrific thriller. The plot was fast moving & the action was intense. The interactions between the characters give the plot dimension & strength. There is an element of romance that adds emotional depth. I enjoy this series with Kendra, Lynch & the others.
I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Well written, interesting, and entertaining. This is another great Johansen book! Kendra Michaels is a fabulous character that shows the fortitude of women. Lynch throws in adventure and fun. Enjoy reading!!!!
Double Blind is a fast paced, engaging read. Kendra is resourceful, independent and strong not letting anything get in her way. With a well-developed surrounding cast this was and thrilling read. I loved this story, the dynamics was well written and I will reading many more books by this author.
Love Kendra Micheals stories. When a woman dies with a flash drive on her way to find Kendra, things get personal. Of course Lynch will do anything to protect Kendra, but she feels better dealing with things on her own. That is until her best friend Olivia is taken. Then all bets are off. Which leads to Kendra, Lynch, and Jessie heading to Afghanistan, but that's also where the story ends. Can't wait for next one.
Kendra Michaels was blind from birth. Until she wasn’t; due to a rare, successful stem cell surgery. While she was blind, her determined, brilliant mother decided that Kendra was going to grow up to extraordinary. Kendra thought this was a fine idea, and in furtherance of this goal developed her other senses to an almost otherworldly degree. Even when Kendra gained her sight, she still honed this talent of noticing what most of us have always missed.
This ability did not go unnoticed by the FBI, and they have often made use of her talents. As Kendra remarks upon during a self-defense lesson with Adam Lynch, there have been 26 attempts on her life; which might be a record for a well known musical therapist working with autistic kids. Not surprisingly, Kendra is not always pleased to be drawn into their cases as a consultant. Luckily she always has Lynch, the man called upon by governments or their agencies for special jobs.
Lynch is almost always at Kendra’s side or at her back when she is consulting.
Special Agent in Charge of the San Diego office FBI office, Michael Griffin personally recruits Kendra into an hours old case. A woman has purposely run into traffic and been killed a few blocks from Kendra’s home. The police have found an envelope containing a memory stick with Kendra’s name on it. (This would really by the only reason the FBI would be called to a murder scene, unless it was a known a known part of a series. You are welcome). The memory stick contains a video of a lovely wedding reception. Nothing overtly remarkable about the video, until members of the wedding party begin to disappear. Kendra and best friend Olivia use their skills to unravel and try to stop the upcoming deaths the video portends.
Adam Lynch and Jessie Mercado, a private detective and friend to Kendra, are also determined to stay involved with Kendra’s case when they discover the presence of a quasi-government security agency. Both Mercado and Lynch have experiences with this company.
Kendra and Olivia are intriguing, strong women. They are super-women of the realistic kind, not the comic book variety. They live their lives to the fullest, and show extraordinary skill, grace and determination.
Double Blind is darker than previous books in the series. Stretched to her limits by heartbreak, Kendra is forced to understand she can’t always protect her loved ones, a circle wider than previously she previously admits.
Pacing and a plot that makes the book hard to put down, Double Blind is a terrific addition to the Kendra Michael series. I always suggest reading an entire series so as not to miss out, but its fine to start with this one because of the stellar summation in my first two paragraphs.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this book
kendra has attitude..she was also blind but can now see...she has talents that the fbi want to use but she has her own abililties that she uses for the children that come to her classes..though that wasnt touched much in this story
the fbi want kendra and her skills to help them with a case...as her name turned up on a piece of paper in a dead womans pocket with a usb key that has a wedding video on it...
kendra and the people around her then become targeted by the same murderer but they have no clue what they have all stumbled on...
can kendra and the fbi sort out what is what before the murderer gets away with murder again....
Double Blind by Iris and Roy Johansen was such a surprise for me. I cannot believe I totally missed this series before now. I liked the characters, the situations they were in and how they worked on solving them! This book is listed at the sixth book in the Kendra Michaels series, but I didn’t feel like I had missed out of a lot and was able to dive right in!
Kendra Michaels is a music therapist. She works with children with autism helping them communicate or at least respond through the music they play. However, that is not all she does. Kendra was blind for many years and learned to navigate her world using her other senses. However, after an operation, Kendra was able to see. Her absolute powers of seeing, hearing and other senses has led her to helping solve mysteries with her ability to find clues. She is reluctant to help the FBI with the case, but is pulled in anyway. She has help from Adam Lynch - a man who works for who pays the most and private investigator Jessie Mercado. A serial killer and a wedding party - how curious.
The book caught my attention quickly and held it the entire book. I loved the wit that was apparent as well as the obvious connections between the characters. The murder mystery was well thought out and led me on through twists and turns and revelations. I was one hundred percent on board with the storyline and characters.Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book. The Double Blind by Iris and Roy Johansen was a great read.
This book is so crazy fast-paced- there is not a wasted page as Kendra and Lynch rush to help the FBI with this dramatic case. The fascination with the things Kendra notices that others don't doesn't wane, and there is a very DRAMATIC EVENT partway through that thoroughly shocked me. The final showdown scene was heart-pounding. If you're craving a book that feels like an action movie, this is the one!
(6th in a series- while I think there are other books in the series that work fine as standalones, I think knowing the characters' backstories is more important for thorough enjoyment in this one.)
Oh my wow! I've always loved books by Iris Johansen and this one did not disappoint! Little bit of romance between Kendra and Lynch, but that is totally secondary to the mystery of who is killing women and has their sights set on Kendra next. I had absolutely no clue who the murderer was, and was totally surprised when it was revealed. Cannot wait for the next in the series, I need to see what happens next!
This review is based on a galley copy from netgalley, courtesy of the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I enjoyed this book very much. It’s fast-paced with interesting and complex characters. The story was great. I haven’t read the previous books in this series but I will after this book. #DoubleBlind #NetGalley
Johansen books have been a treat for me from my very first Eve Duncan book. The latest Kendra Michaels book is a real treat with everything I could ask for in a non-stop read. Kendra is a fascinating character who the Johansen's have developed with great skill. I love how they describe her critical thinking and observation skills, making her an asset to the FBI and herself when she or her friends are in danger. In her latest case Kendra is following the leads to a murderer and his/her ties to companies with questionable goals. Along for the mystery is Adam Lynch and Jessie Mercardo two fascinating characters in their own right along with best friend Olivia. Using her skills of deduction are essential in this mystery attempting to solve abductions and murders and protecting herself and her friends. It doesn't hurt either that the sexual tension and attraction between Adam and Kendra kicks in high gear. I always hate when a Johansen books comes to an end because now I have to wait for the next one. The next story of Kendra Michaels can't come soon enough. Grab Double Blind from your local bookstore or library and you won't be disappointed.
Wow~ This is the first Kendra Michaels book I have read. Double Blind by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen is very well written. I love the heroine....Kendra is working with the FBI and with Adam Lynch. The chemistry between Kendra and Adam is intense, and I can tell the back stories must be really good. There are many other characters that really stand in this series. The mystery had turning me page after page because the story would shift then shift again, but the ride was smooth. Kendra gets involved because the woman who was killed was carrying something with her name on it. She wonders what it is that connects them and so the search for the killer begins. Double Blind moves so fast and is so well written! The plot twists are perfectly balanced with spicy characters that leave you wanting more of their stories.
What I love:
The characters. Really strong character development. This is the sixth book in a series, so my read went fast and quick. Good as a stand alone as well as part of the series. I like that Kendra having been blind is not used as the central focus of the novel, even though she pays extra attention to all of her senses while observing a crime scene. The independence and feisty best friend who also happens to be blind is a very intriguing character. I want to see more of her story and more of her journey in the next book. (Hint, hint...Are you hearing me Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen?)
Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an advanced reader copy of Double Blind for me to review. As always, my opinions are my own.
I'll preface this review by saying that this is my first book by these authors and it is exactly what I was expecting. I felt like I was reading a soft core superhero story. I found the characters to be unbelievable and not engaging enough for my tastes. That being said, I can see the appeal of this series for readers that enjoy a light read with a strong female lead. The last couple of chapters were really good, I only wish the rest of the novel had followed suit.
Kendra and her team Jessie and Adam, are at it again in this latest installment in a a pretty good series. Kendra uses her mind to track down bad guys, in this case, a very bad guy who has been killing people connected to a wedding. This is fairly light for the genre but it's well plotted and written wth good characters. I particularly appreciate that Johansen adds an occasional chuckle to the mix (not much but there are. a few times that I smiled.). Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. You don't need to have read the whole series- or even one of them- to appreciate this. Perfect travel or beach reading!
Can you read this as a stand-alone? Probably...but considering Kendra Michaels is one of my favorite characters, I highly recommend reading them in order and getting to know her :)
Blind Double doesn't disappoint with its fast paced action as the team of usually characters search for a killer that has Kendra in his sights.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Double Blind by Iris and Roy Johansen that I read and reviewed.
This is the sixth book in the Kendra Michaels series and I can honestly say I think this series gets better with each book. This book took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I was actually in tears at one point because I am so invested in these characters and I was feeling Kendra's pain at one point. I love it and I can't wait to see where the authors take the series next.
This book had a great story and was packed full of information about the Kendra Michaels and Adam Lynch story which I love in itself. This book was the full package and I highly recommend it.
Needless to say Double Blind gets five out of five stars.
Our favorite team is back. This new case will reveal the growing attraction that Kendra and Lynch have towards each other. But will it change the way they work together? A woman was killed and she had something that she needed to show Kendra but Kendra has no idea who is was. The more Kendra and Lynch look into the case the more dangerous things become for both of them but they can't back down. A killer is loose and he is choosing his victim's for a reason but will Kendra be able to work it out before even more people die? Lynch knows that the killer has friends that will protect him and they have no trouble in taking down their enemies and he knows that Kendra is putting herself in danger but he can't stop her no matter how hard he tries. Will Kendra have to face her greatest fear and lose someone that means the world to her or will she do everything she can to find them? Will they stop the killer dead in his tracks and be able to find some justice for the victims? Another great read. Lynch & Kendra make a great team he is the muscle and she is the secret weapon as she can pick up things that others might have missed. Griffin & Metcalf are both back as well doing their best to keep the killers of the street and Olivia the best friend is there to listen to guide Kendra through all this madness. A must read for fans. I was lucky enough to receive a copy via Netgalley & the publishing house in exchange for my honest review.
I just finished reading Double Blind by Iris Johansen and Roy Johansen and has nothing but praise for the authors. I have read earlier books by Iris Johansen and she has definitely not lost her touch. The book started out strong with a young woman running out in traffic but it turns out that she was shot and that was what made her run. She has an envelope with Kendra’s name and address and a USB stick inside. The UBS stick has part of a wedding video which is in no way connected to the dead woman at first appearances. After this beginning it is nonstop action with a great ending which can easily lead to a future series. In the beginning I wasn’t too impressed with Kendra because she seemed like such a know it all but she started growing on me after a while. I very much liked her friends Jessie, Adam Lynch and her blind friend Olivia. The “bad guys” are perfectly described and you get a sense of being there in the book where the action is. I will gladly recommend this book to everyone and give it 5 stars. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my unbiased review.
