I look forward to reading the other books in this series.
Two and a half stars.
We first met Hannah Walters as Becca's bitchy twin sister in Should've Been You who strung Jase along. In this book she's had a bit of a rewrite, he was just her BFF, the only one who supported her (Becca was the perfect twin and Hannah the screw-up) and would call her out on her BS. She was briefly engaged before realising he wasn't the one and has now decided to try to find herself rather than rely on a man to define her. She's also realised that she has never travelled, even to nearby cities and has become very insular.
Aiden King is a friend to the male leads in this series, all of whom are reserve National Guardsman. Once a month they each go on duty and it has become a ritual that the gang meet up the night before and Aiden cooks them all a meal. One night Aiden and Hannah end up talking alone, well Hannah talks and Aiden listens. Hannah doesn't realise that Aiden has had a crush on her for a long time that he has never acted upon while she was semi-dating Jase. After their chat they start texting each other and Hannah comes to his bar for dinner one night. They become closer as friends, but (as always) there is a secret that could come between them.
I enjoyed the previous book in this series but I have to say (regrettably) I didn't like this one. I found it overly melodramatic in phases, I got over one third of the way through the book without anything really happening, Aiden had practically the full house of angst (he only needed to have lost a limb to make it complete TBH), he was by turns condescending and a wimp and Hannah was a self-absorbed, selfish woman who thought something that a man would have been crucified for. (view spoiler) Aiden overcomes all of his problems basically by just deciding to, they fall in love for no apparent reason. The book was also short, 150 pages is more novella than novel, and I felt that a serious issue was trivialised and just swept under the carpet rather than being addressed with sensitivity.
Overall, I can sum up my feelings by saying I didn't like either character. In fact I made a note on my kindle that I wanted to throat-punch Hannah at one point!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
When I first started reading Only With You I thought this was going to be one of those weird stories where the friends are overly involved in each other’s lives to create unnecessary drama.
I’m glad that I was wrong.
We first meet Hannah and she’s feeling low because not only has her twin sister fallen in love with her very best friend, but she was painfully single after ending an engagement that just wasn’t right. She was swearing off men and working on herself, something every woman of a certain age has done in the aftermath of a big break up. And wouldn’t you know that’s just when she finds the right guy!
Aiden is…a peach. He’s handsome and quiet and kind of brooding but I wouldn’t call him a bad boy. He thinks he’s a bad man but as we learn throughout Only With You that he’s actually the best type of man.
Watching their friendship slowly develop into something more was beautiful and fun and sometimes hilarious because our girl Hannah is a talker with a capital T. It takes some time for them to actually get together and there is plenty of self-created drama to keep them apart but not enough hat it becomes ridiculous and overwrought.
Nicole McLaughlin’s story was fun and engaging and I had a good time reading it from start to finish.
After reading “Should’ve Been You”, I wasn’t too interested in hearing Hannah’s story, but McLaughlin tells it with a lot of love and self-awareness on Hannah’s part. She and Aiden have a long way to go. Hannah needs to get over her broken engagement, and adjust to her forever best-friend now belonging to her envied sister. Aiden, well he has even more to get over. This was a heart-warming story with a hard-won HEA.
Aiden and Hannah have mutual friends and have been around each other for a long time. Hannah has just gotten out of a relationship and Aiden finds out she is available. Although he thinks she isn't interested, Hannah finds herself thinking about Aiden more and more. Hannah and Aiden both have issues and each need to do some work on themselves. Hannah was kind of a spoiled brat throughout this book and even acknowledges it at points. She had no patience, which was surprising for a school teacher; Aiden has a dark and troubled past and he does not speak of it ever. He knows he has a lot of baggage and tries to live his life in a way that he feels comfortable without bringing attention to his lack of a love life. Hannah and Aiden have several obstacles to overcome and each stumbles a bit in achieving them successfully. I felt Aiden needed to be more open with Hannah at points, but she needed to let him take it slow as he requested. Overall it was an okay read. It did deal with difficult subject matter and it handled it quite well. I was happy to see that it was not glossed over.
Only With You is the newest standalone entry in the Man Enough series by Nicole McLaughlin. It’s a very sweet, tender story, but by no means mindless fluff. It’s full of heartbreak, drama, humor, suspense, secrets, surprise – and love. It will draw you in right from the start and keep you hoping for that happily ever after. The characters are well developed and the story moves right along.
Hannah is just getting over a break up and has decided to give relationships a break for a while, too. She’s always been best friends with Jase, but he and Hannah’s twin sister Becca have just become seriously involved, and Hannah is feeling a bit like a third wheel. Jase’s friend and fellow National Guardsman Aiden has always been attracted to Hannah, but because of her friendship with Jase has never made his feelings known. Both needing something but not quite knowing what, they slowly become friends, good friends, and each can feel the start of something more. But she is afraid to get into another relationship unless she’s absolute certain it’s “the one” and Aiden has a secret, a big secret and he’ll never be able to be in a loving relationship if he can’t get past it.
Aiden looks out for Hannah and supports everything she decides to do. As for Hannah, her friendship – and maybe love? – for Aiden is unconditional. They take a road trip to take Hannah’s mind off her troubles and discover some facts along the way that may change Aiden’s life. It’s fun to go on this journey with them. There are some moments to make you laugh, some to frustrate you until you want to shout, “Wake up!” and some moments will make you cry.
I received a copy of Only With You from St. Martin’s Press via NetGalley. I had not read any of the previous books in the Man Enough series, or any of author Nicole McLaughlin’s other books, but Only With You is a standalone that stands very ably on its own. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it.
Only With You (Man Enough, #4) by Nicole McLaughlin .... Aiden and Hannah's story... Aiden has a dark secret...he really cares for Hannah but he doesn't think he is good enough for her and she is getting over an engagement that never should have been and the fact that her twin Becca and Jase from SHOULD HAVE BEEN YOU #3 are a couple and she has lost her best friend (Jase). This book grips you from the start and even with lots of laughs there is a story that needs to be told. I laughed and cried my way to their HEA.
Loved this book found it really emotional and loved this authors style of writing will be wanting to read more form them in the future
Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin is the fourth book in the contemporary romance Man Enough series. Each book in this series features a different couple so they all can be read fine as a standalone but there could be mentions of previous characters for those following the series.
Hannah Walters has had to sit back and watch her best friend, Jase Beckford, fall in love with Hannah’s twin sister. While Hannah didn’t feel that way for Jase she does feel the loss of having the close friendship they once had and after also breaking off her engagement Hannah vows to hold out for the perfect man for her.
Aiden King serves with Jase so the two are very close friends and while he’s always had a bit of a crush on Hannah he never acted upon it with Jase being so close to Hannah. Now that it’s clear Jase and Hannah are not going to take their friendship to another level Aiden vows to get the courage to see if there’s anything there with Hannah but Aiden has secrets from his past he needs to deal with first.
Only With You was a rather sweet romance with a lot of emotional content to pull at a reader’s heartstrings. Aiden and Hannah seemed to really work well together and just seemed to be exactly what the other needed at this moment in their lives. While there was some steamier content the author also infused those moments with emotion from her characters to the point you could really just feel it while reading. Definitely a nice addition to the series.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
A good emotional story.
Hannah and Aiden are friends who came to realize that they might be more.
Aiden has emotional problems which affect his beginning able to love.
Very good story about loving and trusting completely.
I received an ARC of this book to read from NetGalley in exchange for for a fair review. Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin is the fourth book in her Man Enough series. I had not read the other books and did feel a bit that perhaps I should have as a couple of times I felt I was missing out on something so I suggest reading the entire series. This is a friends to lovers story and it takes the time to build the friendship and also the romance. Hannah Walters is a teacher who has just ended an engagement and the other main relationship in her life is changing dramatically because her best friend Jase is now in a relationship with her twin sister with whom she is trying to have a better relationship.... this is one part where I think reading the other books would make it less confusing. Aiden King has been attracted to Hannah but he is not sure he can have a relationship because of his troubled past. To be honest at first I thought Hannah was a bit shallow and a ditz but she is not and luckily for Aiden she is exactly what he needs. Possible trigger childhood abuse. Quite Steamy. Hannah and Aiden's story was exciting, gut wrenching and full of hope. I enjoyed this book as much as I did the first book. I can't wait for the next one.
I enjoyed reading this book, it was an intense romance. Just an FYI this book contains sensitive subjects, that may bother some people.
Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin is full on intensity. Hot and sweet, as well as the sad and frustrated kind of intense situations. The characters are mature but have their own personal journey to go through before they figure out things. Hannah believes she is incapable of loving someone and Aiden is scared of letting in Hannah.
Hannah soon starts to crush on Aiden. The more time she spends with the sexy hunk, the more she likes making him laugh and talking to him. Plus, he's definitely easy on the eyes. But can she love him the way he deserves to be loved?
Aiden has a lot of inner struggles happening. He really likes Hannah. He wants her in more than just friends kind of way. But sometimes she makes him feel like all they could ever be is just friends. Aiden also has secrets that make him both the most frustrating and most intriguing man ever. He has a heart of gold. Plus, he's a brilliant cook.
Overall, Only With You, made me laugh and cry. It was both a sad and happy tale. I kept rooting for each character. Sexy, sweet, and engaging is the kind of book Nicole McLaughlin created. I enjoyed reading it. In the end, I recommend this contemporary novel to all readers.
Only with You is a sweet and quick read that is filled with emotion. I enjoyed the story as a whole, but do wish there was a little more backstory and romance. Perhaps if I had read the previous books in the series I wouldn't have felt this way? I suppose that doesn't matter much though because I still enjoyed the story and characters as a while. I would definitely consider reading the series from the start after this one.
4.5 stars
What a beautiful story about a slow-burn attraction gradually building over time, turning into trust and love! I loved that Aiden and Hannah were friends before they were lovers; I loved watching Aiden fantasizing about Hannah. And I think it’s so enticing to have a hot man, a National Guardsman and former sniper, cooking.
Aiden is such an alluring hero, his pain deep and raw, yet he’s still so sweet, tender and possessive “with his Hannah”. He is a basket of contradictions, intense, broken, a bit shy and awkward and so smitten with the heroine.
Hannah is impulsive and a bit pushy, but she tries to restrain herself and all that comes from a good place.
I loved that the author created intimate, meaningful moments between the romantic couple, making them complex and unexpected, instead of reducing feelings and emotions to stereotypes.
Only with you was my first book by Nicole Mclaughlin and it is part of a series but it can be read as a standalone. I enjoyed this book but I wish I would have read the rest in the series first because I did feel a little out of the loop in some parts. The story was well written and was entertaining.
Only With You by Nicole McLaughlin is a sometimes touching, all the time entertaining contemporary romance. Ms. McLaughlin has delivered a well-written book and filled it with fantastic, lovable characters. Hannah wonders if she's broken, if she's capable of falling in love. Aiden knows he's broken but he has a fascination of Hannah. Their story is packed with drama, more than a little angst, but it doesn't take over the story. There's also humor, sizzle and surprises along the way. I enjoyed reading Only With You and look forward to reading more from Nicole McLaughlin in the future. Only With You is book 4 of the Man Enough Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Only with You focuses on the friendship turned to love between Aiden and Hannah. It also discusses the heartbreaking consequences of an adolescent male who was sexually abused. The author did an excellent job developing a back story for both characters that led to the revelation that Aiden had been sexually abused by a relative. The story honestly addresses both Aiden’s feelings and Hannah’s reactions to those feelings.
I received a free ARC of this book from netgalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
It seems that in most of the books that I have read lately, instead of being cherished and loved, one if not both of the main characters were subject to abuse as a child and are still struggling with the physical and mental scars as adults. Is this a new trend? I hope only in fiction, because if not, it is a sad commentary on the way this country is moving away from our traditional values.
This book immediately follows that last, in which Hannah Walters breaks her own engagement followed by her best friend, Jace becoming engaged to her twin sister, Becca. After leaving the Army, Jace remained a member of the National Guard, and at the end of the last book Hannah was developing a friendship with one of Jace's friends and fellow Guard, Aiden King. Hannah is taking a break from men and trying to discover herself, but there definately is an attraction between her and Aiden, although she gets mixed signals from this large, quite beautiful man. Slowly the reader and eventually Hannah discover what went on in his grandmother's home where he grew up to make him think that he is too damaged for a woman. A Hannah decides she will soothe and help heal this strong and gentle wounded warrior.
I felt the story was especially strong in character development and very realistic. The author's writing style flows and I had a hard time putting it down, so eventually stayed up way past my normal bed to to finish it. Bonus points for the cover picture actually looking like the characters and they do ride a motorcycle together. The only con, was I found the author's possibly anti-gun sentiments projected onto Aiden as totally unrealistic. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
