Deep Cover is the third book in the Love Over Duty series by Scarlett Cole and it was another brilliant read.
Ms Cole keeps you on the edge of your seat with these romantic suspense books. I loved reading the story of Agent Amy Murray of the FBI and ex-Navy Seal Cabe Moss. They are tasked with working together to uncover a money laundering and missing women case and form an unlikely alliance that quickly turns into more.
Cabe is dealing with the tragic death of his fiancée when Amy comes into his life. There's something about him that attracts him from the very beginning. Amy has just transferred FBI offices after being sexually harassed by officers in her former office. She doesn't want the stigma that may come with forming a relationship with a senior officer so she needs to keep her distance from Cabe.
I loved reading how the relationship developed between these two characters. The suspense portion of the case that they're working on kept me turning the pages.
Definitely love this series!
I think I am going to stop with this book in this series and just for your information this is the third and I feel that you would be lost if you do not read first 2. Now I think some of you will find this book entertaining but I find this book chaotic too much going on, and the writer was jumping from one persons thoughts to the next yeah too combobulated for me..And I also found my self dragging while reading..
Enjoyed Cabe and Amy's story. This author is extremely talented weaving characters pasat and present experiences in to the story without distracting from the suspense. The camraderie and the support that the founders of Eagle Security give to each other is heartwarming and genuine.
2.5 stars for me. I preferred it from the previous one. The hero and heroin are more likable and understandable for me.
But somehow I didn’t really get into their adventure. Both the relation and the said suspense were so-so.
3.5 stars. One of the things I like best about Ms. Cole's stories is that she never goes in the typical direction with her plots. In this one, Cabe is still mourning the loss of his fiancé, Jess, who was killed several years prior. Thus, I figured the hiccup in the budding relationship between Cabe and Amy would be Cabe's reluctance to ever love again. And there are a couple of moments where he has those types of thoughts, but they are brief. He doesn't spend the whole book fighting his feelings, which I thought was a very refreshing take. This one did get a bit depressing for me, though, with Cabe's extensive memories of Jess; although it was touching at first, I started to skim those passages because they took me out of Cabe and Amy's story, which is what I wanted to focus on. Nonetheless, the story and the characters are realistic, and it is obvious that a lot of research went into the casino background of this one. The suspense aspect is interesting and brings the storyline that has been building since Book 1 to a tidy conclusion.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC for review.
Cabe is an ex Navy SEAL and a founding member of Eagle Security. He has worked his very cute butt off to get it off the ground with Six and Mac but he is ever overshadowed by the memory of his fiancée being killed whilst he was away on a mission. Jess was military like him and he just can't seem to shake her memory and what they lost.
Amy is an FBI agent who forever has the stigma of being the female agent who called time on her boss and his sexual misconduct. She doesn't think the stigma has followed her to her new posting but she can never rest on her laurels. She wants some fun before undertaking her new case and has a close call with a hunky stranger but he disappears as fast as he appeared! But now he pops up again...as one of the security specialists she has to work with. Putting aside her hurt feelings she has to deal with Cabe.
Cabe is superbly written as the sensitive soul mixed with Alpha bad-ass! He truly loved and mourned Jess and feels conflict over his emotions when Amy is involved. He feels like he is cheating on Jess, even when he knows that she is gone and would want him to be happy. Amy is trying to be super professional, not wanting anyone to come at her as being the girl who climbed the ladder by sleeping her way to the top.
I love that whilst the male characters may be physically strong, their female counterparts are equally as strong in other areas, whether in intellect or emotionally. I loved how everyone got sucked into the madness of Six wedding! Amy's family and friends from the world of gambling were just as fun and I enjoyed learning so much about the workings of a casino! What happens now?!?!?
Honestly, I was a bit torn when it came to rating this book.
On the one hand it is as amazing as every other book in this series. On the other hand, even though I really loved Cabe and Amy, their personal problems that threaten to keep them apart, felt a bit like a broken record.
Both of them are hung up in their past and their personal tragedies and feel threatened by their buddening romance despite the fact that both of them feel and acknowledge that they have something special there and want to make it happen. Nevertheless, they can't resist temptation and even risk their assignment because they can't stay apart.
This assignment, meaning the investigation dealing with missing women and potential human trafficking and money laundering, is important to both of them but they still risk Amy's and also Cabe's personal safety.
Okay, right, this is the "Love over Duty" series which means, well, that love rules, right? Well, common sense should also rule, I think. I loved the other books in this series as well, and, I must admit that I loved those even more. Somehow "Deep Cover" feels a bit rushed. The other two books felt a bit more intense and more straight. Nontheless, I also loved "Deep Cover", even when I was rolling my eyes at another woe-me-moment of our heroine or our hero because they are amazing characters and their chemistry is simply great. You get them, you feel why they belong together. Apart from their romance there is also this whole other part of the story, the investigation that captivated me right from the start.
Despite the points that I mentioned, I loved to read the book and would recommend it.
This is the third in the Love Over Duty series - and it certainly picks up where the last book left off... Cabe is our hero this time around, and we have obviously met him in the previous books. He is definitely forced to eat his words - and the company no fraternisation rule - when he has to work with FBI agent Amy!
There is some push and shove, some woe is me, some I still love my fiancée who died, some I have to protect her even though she is perfectly able to do it herself-ness (sorry that last one was a bit long) - but this was an entertaining yarn and a perfect addition to the series!
2.5*
I didn’t read UNDER FIRE, Love Over Duty book #1, and had a hard time with FINAL SIEGE (book #2)--particularly with the protagonists--so I decided to give Scarlett Cole a final go with book #3, DEEP COVER. While I certainly enjoyed it much more than the previous book and found Cabe and Amy a much more engaging couple than Mac and Delaney, I can’t say the book blew me away. It’s a run-of-the-mill RS-lite novel that will entertain you for a few hours and you’ll then promptly forget after until something/someone reminds you of the Love Over Duty universe. Which is not necessarily a bad thing, but if you’re looking for an RS masterpiece, look elsewhere. Not sure there is much else to do in Love Over Duty since the 3 protagonists’ stories have been told, but I’d probably pass on a next instalment regardless.

I really enjoyed this book. I did not read the first two but will definitely go back and read now that I have met the characters in this book. I felt like the author definitely gave enough info to be able to read this as a standalone. This is Cabe's story. Cabe Moss is a former Navy Seal, if you can ever truly be a former Seal. He and his Seal brothers/friends Six and Mac now run Eagle Securities with him.
They take on a job involving missing women from a Vegas casino and form a task force that includes the FBI. It is there where Cabe meets Amy Murray (well sort of), who is an FBI agent who desperately wants to solve this case because of her past. Cabe is having a hard time letting go of the memory of his deceased fiance but he is drawn to Amy. Amy does undercover in the casino and there are some pretty intense moments. Cabe will not let anything happen to her.
Good story, characters, suspense, and hot sexy romance definitely make me want to read more from this new to me author.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC of this book.
I received a copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This felt like a second draft. The plot was solid for what it was but it could use more development. There were SPAG errors that I noticed and ignored at first, until there got to be too many of them. That took me out of it a bit. There are some formatting issues that made keeping track of the switches in point-of-view difficult.
My biggest complaint is the characters. Amy seems all badass/independent woman at first but that quickly dissolves into almost nothing after she meets Cabe. She's wishywashy and whiny at times and doesn't earn my respect for the moments when she acts otherwise. The relationship between Cabe and Amy felt like it was trying for a build-up of tension and depth but ended up falling flat.
From a technical perspective, I wish Ms. Cole trusted her audience's intelligence a bit more. I don't need jokes spelled out for me - it was a bit insulting - because she did a great job setting it up. I got it. But then she explained it and I stopped caring. There was a repetition of information in this story that I found unnecessary.
Everything was fine. Nothing about this story was outstanding for me. It blends in really well with others in this genre. As it stands, I wouldn't recommend it. There are better stories out there.

This is my first Scarlett Cole book and it will for sure NOT be the last. In fact with this being the third in a series, I am now planning to go back to read the first two. The books are obviously able to be read as stand alones, but different characters and touches on each ones’ story comes up in this book, so I am excited to read the stories of the other two couples.
Both male and female characters are strong, successful people, who have baggage, of course, don’t we all??? Their careers make it difficult for them to be together, so although the draw is there the agreement to not act on it is eventually overridden by both parties. There is a slow burn, to great love scenes. Add in some suspense and danger for a great book. Not too short or too long. Really glad that I found this series and author!
Scarlett Cole is a brilliant writer. She won me over on her first book and I will continue to read her books. This series is sexy and suspenful. A must read!
I received an arc from Netgalley. Amy and Cabe meet and right off the bat start off on a misunderstanding. Soon after they meet through their work in an undercover operation.
Instant attraction between the two is inevitable and though Cabe has memories of his fiancé and guilt from starting to love again these two work it out.
I enjoyed, Deep Cover. The way that Amy could take care of herself, but also knew when Cabe needed to take care of her to keep him satisfied.
Deep Cover took the suspense to the next level! Cole managed to write such amazing main characters I was unable to put the book down until I was finished. Well written, with the overall plot of the series moving forward, I was a happy reader indeed.
This book is about an undercover operation to discover where some women who worked in a casino have disappeared. I enjoyed reading it because it was filled with twists and turns. A very good book!
Deep Cover is the third book in The Love Over Duty Series and is an interconnected stand-alone novel. Deep Cover follows the story of Cabe and Amy. Cabe is the guy you can always count on when you need him. When called to duty, he'll never let you down. When his fiancee passed away, it nearly destroyed him. He will face his biggest challenge to date when he gets paired up with FBI Agent Amy Murry. Even though Cabe may appear to be the strong, silent type, there is more to him than meets the eye. The stakes are high and sparks are flying all over the place. Will Amy be able to resist Cabe? Will they be able to keep things professional and solve the case?? There's only one way to find out.....
Deep Cover is my first book by this author and overall I thought it was an ok read. I was really intrigued by the story-line and the characters. I wanted to know more, though I will admit, the first part of the story did move at a slower pace than I would like. Since the story is not told from the first person point of view, I will admit that I was distracted. With so many characters and the different pov type, I found it hard to concentrate on the story. 2nd & 3rd Person POV is something that I personally struggle with, but do try my best to overcome.
Anyways, I liked Amy and Cabe together. Amy was smart and witty. She challenged Cabe and made him want to have a life again. And Cabe was an alpha male with the biggest heart, even when he seemed closed off and wanting to keep things professional. Together, I thought these two meshed well and was looking forward to seeing how their story was going to play out.
Deep Cover is one of those stories that I think will be a hit for some and a miss for others. For me, I thought it was an ok read. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. There was a few issues with the story that made it a little hard for me, but in the end, I'm glad I didn't give up on Amy and Cabe's story. I loved the danger and suspense that Deep Cover had to offer and appreciated the light drama associated with Amy and Cabe's romance.
As I stated before, this is my first read by this author, and while it wasn't a 100% hit for me, I'd still opening to checking out more from her in the future.
I'd like to that the publisher & Netgally for giving me the opportunity to read for an honest review. Although I have not read books 1 & 2 of that series this book was slow start for me to jump into, but I enjoyed Cabe and Amy's romance story. I thought the characters were really a good match for each other. They worked well and were not afraid of saying what they thought. Now I will be going back to read the other books in the series and also more of this authors books.
Deep Cover is the third book in the Love over Duty series. It was my first Scarlett Cole book and it won’t be my last! I really enjoyed it. I was able to easily follow the book even though I had not read the previous two books in the series. I’m definitely curious enough to go back and read the first two books now to better understand the backstory of some of the secondary characters.
Cabe Moss, an ex-Navy SEAL, now works for an independent security firm. He’s assigned to investigate a money laundering scheme taking place in a Vegas casino. Amy Murray is an FBI agent investigating the same casino trying to determine what happened to a number of missing women. They are thrown together as they both try and unravel what is happening behind the scenes at the casino.
Cabe is haunted by the death of his fiancée who was killed in action in the middle east. He’s got a big heart and a protective streak but is reluctant to acknowledge his feelings. Amy is battling her own demons. The disappearance of her mother years ago has driven Amy to the FBI where she tries to reunite families with their missing loved ones. She’s also smarting from having to deal with sexual harassment in the FBI and she’s not at all interested in getting involved with someone she works with.
This book had a little bit of an Oceans Eleven vibe for me. It is a fast moving thriller taking place in the secret VIP rooms of a Vegas casino. There is great chemistry between the hero and heroine and a wonderful cast of secondary characters. It was one of those books that I couldn’t put down and stayed up way too late on a work night to finish.
