This book was fantastic!! So fast paced and you will not be able to figure out the ending. My first book by Margot and I will be looking up more to read. Talk about a marriage go wrong!! It's suspenseful and you will be shocked how it ends!
3.5*
How far would you go to protect your child? The police? Threatening letters? Murder? Nat and Will are tested when their child is threatened - they may have joked about committing the perfect murder but could they go through with it in practise?
Hunt has crafted a tense thriller where a couple's marriage and life is put under severe pressure and scrutiny in a community where rumours spread like wildfire. Spending time in each of the character's head made for interesting reading as they try to ride the police investigation without being caught. Not a wholly bad read with an interesting, open ended conclusion...
This book makes for an involving read, with two strong - willed main characters, Natalie & Will. Both lawyers and both sure of their own importance whilst also being devoted parents to their son.
The story is told from these two characters points of view, giving the reader time to understand their side of the marriage and the events they face.
Reflecting back to a conversation from their first date together, it is interesting to see how, when faced with a choice, their reasoning and logic skills may not follow the ways of that earlier thinking.
Circumstances they face as parents, are not ones parents should ever have to face. How they each react makes for interesting reading.
As any good psychological thriller does, this story has unexpected twists, for me one or two were a little unrealistic, but they all combine to make an intriguing, dark read.
Ohhh, I really enjoyed this story. The plot was so good! It really made me think about what I would do if I was put in the position of the parents in this story. And I may or may not have done the same. Very atmospheric and tense.
What would you do as a parent to protect your child? Well that is what Natalie and Will must figure out when they learn horrific news that involves their son. Natalie is a lawyer and knows the system so the questions is asked, Can they get away with murder?
What a juicy read!
For Better and Worse was another unexpected thrilling read for me and one once I started I couldn't put down.
So what made this one a thrilling read for me? It was all in the delicious, dark pleasurable revenge story that appealed to that vigilantism while playing on our fear as parents. After someone harms her son, Natalie’s protective claws come out, and she cooly and calmly decides the person who abused her son must die. Revenge thrillers are a guilty pleasure for me, and I love to ponder those moral questions and just get lost in the nonsense of imagining getting revenge against someone who has harmed a child. Is that dark?
My two cents
The story begins with a good hook. While on a date, law students Natalie and Will discuss how they could outsmart the law and plan the perfect murder. They are now married with a son that is being tested. There are some dark themes and one that might have you shying away from; however, we are not given any details to make this a dark read. We know just enough to allow us to feel angry and invoke the need for revenge and justice and some desire to see the criminal here get what he deserves.
There is nothing believable to this revenge crime, and it is hard to buy into the shady story. It’s all in the self-indulgent feeling that allows us to fantasize about getting away with this revenge crime. None of the characters other than young charlie are likable or compelling.
Overall. It might not sound like a thrilling read and not work for a few readers, but the thrill of revenge drives the story forward.
I really enjoyed this book as it was not your predictable Psychological Thriller! I couldn't put it down as I wanted to know the outcome and it definitely wasn't anything that I predicted. I typically struggle with books that have multiple viewpoints but Margot Hunt was flawless when it came to multiple viewpoints and I believe the viewpoints from both the husband and wife was critical to this book! I would definitely recommend this book to any Thriller or Psychological Thriller fan.
I liked the setup in For Better and Worse. I haven't read too many books about parents taking the law into their own hands to protect their child. I felt horrible for Charlie and honestly Will and Nat's marriage is pretty depressing. I felt like they were somewhat stereotypical of the middle-aged man child husband and control freak wife. I would've like more depth to them as a way to relate to their struggles. I did like the tension as they try to get away with murder, but the ending wasn't my favorite. Overall, I'd rate 3.5 out of 5 stars.
I don't have access to the book anymore. I have been using a new email for kindle for the last year. I will focus on new books instead of digging for the old files. I apologize for the inconvenience. It's not my intention to not review like this.
This was tense and had some nice twists but overall I felt a bit unsatisfied by the end-- not that I didn't enjoy it. It felt like it lacked something. I also really (SPOILER) hated the husband, the asshole.
Nail biting, addictive and enthralling. Such a fantastic, tightly plotted story with some brilliant characters. I adored it. Recommend!
Oooh, yessss! I really enjoyed this addictive read. I loved all of the drama surrounding the parents in the community, the ruthless characters, the suspenseful writing style, the enticing plot, and all of the secrets & lies sprinkled in between. If you enjoyed Big Little Lies or My Lovely Wife, you gotta read this one. It gave me very similar vibes. In my opinion, For Better and Worse is a solid thriller. I give it 4/5 stars!
I absolutely loved this book!! Could not get to the end fast enough!!! It was so full of twists and turns . I had no idea what was coming next . Can not wait for more books from this author!
For Better and Worse is the type of book that you can only put down briefly in order to purchase the author's other works. As a mother especially, I could not put this book down. I found myself relating to Nat and some of the choices she makes. Overall, if you are looking for a book that you can't put down, look no further.
This still sounds great to me and I dont understand why I never read it because its up my alley. It has such great reviews and I have put it on my thriller tbr!
I go into all my thrillers without reading the synopsis or reading reviews. And I’m so glad I did because I was pleasantly surprised. The writing of this book was so easy to read and I read it in one night.
There are some trigger warnings for child abuse and pedophiles, so please be aware of that going in.
this book kept me reading and I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next. It had its twists like every thriller and they didn’t blow me out of the water but I enjoyed it!
I loved the part where you didn’t know whether or not to believe the foster boy or not. Cuz he does have a history of causing trouble.
Not at all what I was expecting, and very dark (things involving children always are). Still very captivating and I couldn’t put it down!
I was completely gripped by this story and thought was impressed with the writing quality. I was entertained throughout the story and would not hesitate to recommend this book.
This is a review that should have already been done so I hope the old saying better late than never still rings true.
Natalie and Will are the quintessential husband and wife who are both attorneys now with a child that Natalie will protect at all costs. They both are far too familiar with manipulating the justice system in order to get the desired outcome for themselves as well as their clients. Now however, Nat feels as though a different type of justice is in order. The problem now is that Will cannot begin to understand his wife and why she has done what she did. Will they be able to stand the test of time as well as ruthless police looking into them? This book was something that I had not expected. While the blurb had me interested, the writing kept me entertained and wanting more. I found myself reading this well into the night so that I could get to the end and see what happens. This is well written and as an attorney myself, it seems the author knows about the law also.
Thank you to netgalley as well as the author/publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
Here I am, desperately trying to get through some old ARCs - I truly am sorry for such a terrible delay. With that, I truly did enjoy this book! At first, I thought the plot was a bit W I L D. I could imagine parents having that type of reaction to the potential abuse of their child - but would someone actually go through with it.
As the novel went on, however, I was drawn in by the couple, how they were both processing the events that have taken place, and their attempts at covering for themselves.
Overall, it was an enjoyable family drama - with a crime twist. However, I will say the ending wrapped up a bit too nicely for me; we are given little motivation for the sheriff's behavior. And, I wish we were given a bit more insight into the wife's mindset - she seemed too calm given the situation and how she reacted.
Even with the ending, I will gladly read something else by this author, as this one was enjoyable, an easy and fast read, and held my attention.
