Shouldn't a criminal defense attorney be able to plan the perfect crime? Apparently not, as Nat and her husband discover when she attempts to protect their young son from notoriety after discovering his principal has been accused of molesting young boys. Believing she's thought of everything, she prepares what she believes is a surefire way to get rid of him but then discovers she needs her husband's help. But there are secrets in his life that will prevent all from going as planned and soon they are both caught up in a web of deceit and lies. Nice little twist at the end that I didn't see coming as well!
How far would you go to protect your child? After finding out some devastating news about her child, Natalie takes matters into her own hands and decides to attempt to get away with murder.
I loved the writing style. It was so descriptive and well-worded that I felt exactly what the characters were feeling. I liked the changing POVs. The only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars is the ending. While I’m glad it ended the way it did, it just seemed a little far placed from reality.
Natalie and Will's story had me on the edge of my seat until the end. There were events I didn't see coming. I kept reading and reading enjoying the flow of this well-written read. Filled with suspense and intrigue, I enjoyed For Better and Worse.
Thank you, Netgalley for this ARC.
I received a free e-copy of For Better and Worse by Margot Hunt from NetGalley for my honest review.
This is a story about murder, revenge and an affair and in the middle of the story is a child who is the victim. I really enjoyed this book it kept me reading into the small hours. The writing was descriptive and you could feel the absolute fear of the characters the husband and wife Nat and Will. The story also includes the same topic from both Nat and Will which some times I had to remind myself who was telling the story.
I recommend this book for a really good read and this would make an excellent book club read where I am sure it would be debated long and hard. Well done to the author and I thoroughly recommend this book.
Four stars. I loved the legal aspect of this book, it wasn't over the top or too hard to understand for the average person. You can tell from the description this story will be on the darker side, so I'm sure anyone interested after reading the blurb is obviously okay with it. The reader is not sure what will happen, and it unfolds very satisfactorily. Some of the subject matter is a little hard to handle, but it really isnt too bad. My only complaint with the book, is the set-up for a sequel... it seems silly. Like, a little too far. I think the book would have been much better off as a stand alone, I will absolutely read more by Margot Hunt but I will not be reading a follow-up to "For Better and Worse."
I received this novel via E-advanced reader copy from Netgalley in return for an honest review. Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this novel.
Will and Nat are on a date about 15 years ago and the topic turns to how they could get away with the perfect murder. Fast forward to present day. Now married with an eleven year old son, their marriage has gone stale, with bickering and suspected infidelity. If only that is all they had to worry about....
Added to this is the shocking news that their son's school principle has been accused of molesting a student, has he actually done this? Nat and Will's lives are thrown in chaos as their subsequent actions will change their lives forever - in more ways than one...
While I was reading the first chapter I felt very disengaged..is this going to be another shallow novel with colorless characters? Boy, was I wrong. This is the first book in a long time where I have foregone an evening of tv to focus on a book. Who needs tv anyway? Several times I found myself thinking. 'ohhh no... as I turned page after page eager to finds out what happens next.
While some of my fellow reviewers were not altogether happy with the ending, I actually was fine with it as I feel that the ending is not outside the realm of possibility.
I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend. Bravo!
I never suggest books to read to my students unless they are literary masterpieces or close. But this was a thoroughly entertaining book and kept my interest and kept me guessing throughout. And this is much more than I could say for most books that I read nowadays.
The concept was genuinely unique and I do think the author was extremely good at writing dialogue. I just wish the ending were resolved better. It kind of left one hanging.
Margot Hunt delivers another well-written psychological thriller with twists and turns up to the very last pages! This story follows Natalie and Will Clarke from their first date to the stress of a family tragedy and everything in between. The book is riveting and will keep you guessing from start to finish. Unsure of what will happen next, this book is a page turner that explores the ins and outs of family relationships and makes you wonder “How far would you go to protect your family?”
I received an eARC from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
A solid 4 star read. I was interested in seeing how it played out but was a little disappointed in the ending. It was good, it just lacked a little something for me. In my head it played out very differently but I'm always pleasantly surprised when I'm wrong. It's definitely a touchy and hard subject to cover.
Suspenseful and thrilling right up through the end. Natalie and Will Clarke met in law school, married and are living a fruitful life. Natalie is a defense attorney who strongly feels everyone is entitled to a fair hearing.. When something happens to challenge her family, she takes a vigilante approach. Not a chance that she is going to trust the system. It’s an intriguing story because it challenges the reader to assume their own reaction while pushing boundaries previously unimagined. It’s a page turner and I was totally engrossed in the story from start to finish .
Interesting vigilante justice plot and character development.. Kept my attention, especially the ending!

This was a fast paced book that kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
Natalie and Will have a son named Jacob. Jacob attends a private school where the principal has been accused of molesting a child. Jacob confides in Natalie that the principal has touched him as well. Natalie, being a defense lawyer, knows all about the law and what Jacob would go through if the case went to trial. Natalie, who will do whatever it takes to protect her son, decides to take things into her own hands. How far will she go to protect Jacob? How far would you got to protect your child?
Very good book. Love the twists. I could not stop reading it. The end was a real shocker to me. Great characters. Definately would recommend this book and author
Twisty turny goodness! Excellent characters that I wasn't sure if I loved or hated, but they kept me reading! Interesting different plot than normal, and a pretty shocking ending. Definitely recommend.
This book WAS so good! I could not put it down once I started it. As a married mother of 5, it totally hit home. I am pretty sure that I would do anything for my kids, especially to protect them. Natalie is a pillar of strength and organization. She is a great mom and lawyer and she really has it together. Will is a good dad but not around that much and kind of just lives at home hanging out with his kid here and there. When they find out Charlie was molested, they both handle it differently. I would go insane if I found that put about my child and probably be more like Nat being a mom. She did what other parents would want to do but wouldn't. I found the whole story very real and believable. Absolutely. I thought it was a great book with great writing, interesting characters, lots of suspense and also very current and real. I loved that it shifted from Nat's point of view to Will's and back to Nat's. I am not sure the ending is that realistic but I liked how it ended. Definitely do not miss this fabulous book!

per amazon.com On their first date back in law school, Natalie and Will Clarke bonded over drinks, dinner and whether they could get away with murder. Now married, they’ll put the latter to the test when an unchecked danger in their community places their son in jeopardy. Working as a criminal defense attorney, Nat refuses to rely on the broken legal system to keep her family safe. She knows that if you want justice…you have to get it yourself.
Shocked to discover Nat’s taken matters into her own hands, Will has no choice but to dirty his, also. His family is in way too deep to back down now. He’s just not sure he recognizes the woman he married. Nat’s always been fiercely protective, but never this ruthless or calculating. With the police poking holes in their airtight plan, what will be the first to fall apart: their scandalous secret—or their marriage?
The author touches on a very sensitive subject matter. I enjoyed the book all the way up until the end. I really was hoping for another ending. One that would have done the book justice. I’m not sure if the author was in a hurry to make a certain page count. But the ending should have ended that way.
So was this the perfect murder? I was hoping for a little stronger sense of suspense. It was easy to figure out exactly what was going to happen.
You will have to read for yourself.
My review is in my opinion and no one else’s. I was not paid for this review. Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the ARC.
This was a very weird, yet an interesting read!It forced you to put yourself in a situation like the one in the book and question if you would have done what they did.It was a great story with an interesting plot.
A fast-paced book with all of the elements of a great mystery until the end. See review here:https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2450487263
While on a date in law school, Natalie and Will discuss how to get away with murder. Years later, after they are married, Natalie, now a criminal defense attorney, finds that she is more than willing to commit a murder and knows just how to do it and get away with it. Kind of.
Although listed as a thriller, this novel is less thriller and more “how done it”. The writing is solid and the plot moves along at a good pace.
I didn’t find either of the main characters to be very likable and the ending was more than a little far-fetched but overall it was a very readable book.
Thank you #netgallery for allowing me to read this awesome book. It was amazing from start to finish. Totally hooked and a gripping storyline that made you understand the characters and there emotions and reactions. Was so tense through the middle, and such empathy for the victims. Superb writing can't recommend this enough. Ten out to ten!!
