This was a excellent source for learning the coloring mixing. A number of techniques that can really help a beginner. I find myself using this quite a lot for references .
While I've been an amateur artist for some years, I am always interested in the topic of colour mixing, particularly as new formulations appear over time. Useful for beginners too, as the advice is most helpful in using bright colours - new artists can be timid with colour! A great reference for any artist or those hoping to be!
Thanks to the publisher for a review copy.

Thank you Quatro amd Netgalley for this ARC.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and how it has encouraged me to get out my paints and experiment with my creativity.
Highly recommended.
This is an extremely useful book/guide to novices in color mixing. It starts with the basics and explains various techniques very thoroughly. I have always struggled with color mixing and so this has been very helpful to me.
This is a great book for beginners or experienced artists who have been away from painting for a while. Everything you need to start or get back to using color in your art, simply stated.
I really enjoy Beginning of Color Mixing. I am teaching my eight-year-old son about color theory and mixing colors. This book is a wonderful guide! It starts with the basics like understanding the color wheel and scaffolds up, so it is appropriate for all “levels” of artists. It is also appropriate for all ages. The techniques author Kimberly Adams shares are useful, yielding magnificent results. I highly recommend this book!
If you've wondered why your paint colors are not intense or muddy, this book provides a manual for choosing a basic palate to mix colors. It includes instructions for choosing tools, values, and various color schemes.
The styles demonstrated are varied and interesting. This would be a good primer for those beginning to paint or working with intermediate skills. I enjoyed it and recommend it.
This is a fabulous book for anyone who is starting out painting (and probably more experienced painters would also learn something ). I splash colour about on a canvas, sometimes I get lucky and it looks good, but most times it is an awful mess and I need to paint over it.
This book is really easy to read and understand, all the sections from "getting started"," colour theory", "painting with colour" to "painting from life" have been well explained, illustrated and examples of are shown.
I particularly love the "painting with colour" section as it is extremely informative and illustrates what different colour placement make.
I really recommend this book both for its information and easy reading style used
Excellent book on color! The pictures are gorgeous and vibrant and it is great for beginners and even people a bit more experienced.
This helpful Beginning Colour Mixing book is a wonderful addition to any artist starting out. It explains everything so well, from the colour palette to putting the colours onto a canvas in the right order.
The first chapter "Getting Started" explains how to set up your work space, the painting tools & materials required and some basic painting techniques.
The Colour Theory chapter covers helps the reader understand the colour wheel and colour schemes. Painting with Colour further expands on the previous chapter, explaining each colour in turn. Plus using one colour on a card it shows how other colours work together, a great way to understand the colour palette even more.
The last chapter shows 4 different painted images that have been broken down into steps to achieve the finished painting.
Throughout the book there are useful tips and lots of colour pictures and colour schemes to help you achieve painting something yourself.
This is a colorful book of tips and techniques for mixing and using colors. From setting up your workspace, understanding color, to painting with color, this book has it all, along with the plethora of colorful pictures to use as visual aids. I love color and can appreciate the knowledge needed to achieve the colors I imagine for my paintings, whether on cakes, paper, tile or canvas.
With a lot of practice, you will be able to dream and translate your colors to canvas too.
I received this book through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
This book should be required reading for any beginning artist who paints. Though to me the title was slightly misleading since I thought that it would specifically show how to mix pigments to get a specific color. Though there is a bit of that it is more about how to pick colors to use to help draw the eye of the viewer of a painting to different areas through the use of specific colors. I do not paint myself so I found this book to be a revelation. The step by step approach will be helpful to those who would like to venture into painting as an artist.
Beginning Color Mixing is an art techniques book on how to pick what colors to use to create vivid, colorful artwork. The author creates colorful, finger-painted, Impressionistic landscapes. Her technique is to use vivid colors straight from the tube (mainly oil, but also acrylic or watercolor) and place dabs of color next to each other to create eye-catching paintings. (This book won't be of much help if you're looking for instruction on mixing your own colors on a palette; it's about placing color on the canvas.)
The author briefly covered tools, materials, etc., and then discussed the basics of colors and color theory. Then she talked about the main colors--reds, pinks, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples, neutrals, black and white--as well as the specific paint colors that she uses to create a range of red (or other) colors in her paintings. She also gave tips about specific paint colors that look good together and how to use color to draw the eye or unify the painting.
She was very easy to understand and her demonstrations were clear and well-illustrated. She provided 4 step-by-step landscape demonstrations (lighthouse and ocean, clouds and a field, fall trees, and more trees) in her Impressionistic style. Overall, I'd recommend this book to any painter who is drawn to the author's vivid, colorful paintings--like the one on the cover.
A lot of good information. Focus on oil/acrylic and a lot of terms and methodology. But an interesting read to help understand color mixing and painting.
I found Portfolio: Beginning Color Mixing: Tips and techniques for mixing vibrant colors and cohesive palettes
by Kimberly Adams. A beautifully written book. There's so much information throughout this book about core concepts and mixing techniques of mixing colours and for them to become other colours. It explains in great detail how to create your work with colours and how to apply these. I loved the way Kimberly explained the basic theory of the colours and how they work within the book and then adding these to your own picture.
This is a must for any beginner who wants to learn how to mix paints etc and them add them to your picture etc.
I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book is VERY GOOD. Especially as I forgot some of these techniques and they will be used again whilst I create my work in my craft room x
Gorgeous pictures. I learned a lot about color and painting and art. Such amazing artwork. Thanks for letting me look at this book and review it.
Very educational and well taught. I struggle with color mixing! This book teaches you how to mix and use those colors. Loaded with techniques and step by step exercises to teach you the hows and whys! I give it 5 stars!
This book really opened my eyes to painting. I love the artwork and details of this book. Will reread and makes a great coffee table book. Love it.
This book introduces colour mixing, colour combination and, of course, gives an introduction in colour theory.
I especially liked the information on which colours work well together and how to mix the colours od one family to make them appear warmer or colder. Futher, the introduction to painting colourful clouds was very interesting.
A beautiful book that gives some great tips on how to mix colour, paint and organise your work space. Some great tips that are really useful.
