This book was a slow starter, but don’t give up! The story really picks up at about the 35% mark and from there is fast paced and crazy! Veronica is quite the unreliable narrator, or is she? This is the first book I’ve read by Emily Bleeker and certainly won’t be my last!!

"Sometimes you run away from the flames, and other times you stay and help put out the fire." This book starts slow, taking its time to build an in-depth world of a woman struggling through post partum depression. But it eventually picks up steam and comes to pack the punch fans of Emily Bleeker have come to expect. This study of a mother's love, depression, and friendship is not to be missed!

I have loved every book I have read by Emily Bleeker so far, so I was super excited when i won a free copy of The Waiting Room on NetGalley in exchange for a review. At first it took me a while to get into this book, but I kept on reading because i was pretty sure it would be worth it and it was!

Emily Bleaker did a great job of leading the reader in one direction throughout The Waiting Room, only to abruptly surprise us with the true story at the end.

I felt as though I was duped by the synopsis of this book. If I had known that it was all about postpartum depression told by an unreliable narrator I would not have picked up this story. I felt disconnected to the characters and I felt that the plot was incomprehensible. Several times I needed to go back wondering what a character was doing. Many pieces were also unbelievable. This read was honestly forgettable.

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing for the digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Thank you to the Lake Union Publishers for this e-galley of The Waiting Room in exchange for an honest review. Veronica Shelton suffers from a postpartum depression that stems from her husband’s death around the time her baby was born. She has trouble sleeping, working and can’t even touch her baby. Her mom had to come live with her to feed and take care of them both. When her daughter goes missing after her first night out in a while, the police start to suspect her and Veronica takes things into her own hands.
I do love a good unreliable narrator thriller. This one was quite fast paced and had quite a few elements to follow. I ended up predicting a lot of it but not everything. A good quick read, nothing mind blowing but certainly an interesting concept! Publishes August 28, 2018

The Waiting Room is a tough book to review without giving anything away. It is a highly emotional read but I found it a quick read and finished it in an evening. I have previously read books by the author and couldn't wait to read this....and then I could not put it down. There is a lot happening, and at times I was in tears for the characters and what they were going through.

Veronica's life was turned upside down when her husband was killed in a car crash. Her baby girl survived the crash but now she is having trouble bonding with her, even struggling to pick her up. She is finally starting to go to therapy to help her with her post partum depression. When she returns from a session to find her house broken into and her daughter missing she soon becomes the suspect and not the victim. The only way to get her daughter back is to do it herself. The ending is incredible and I didn't see it coming.

Thank you to Lake Union Publishing and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

Stick with this one through the set up and you'll be rewarded with a well done psychological thriller and a twist at the end that will surprise you. Veronica is dealing with a lot- the loss of her husband, the birth of her daughter, dealing with her post partum depression. Then things get worse, when she goes at it with her mother, who has been caring for her daughter. Then the baby disappears. Keep your eye on Gillian and Mark, and on what you think is real and what is not. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a good fast read.

This is the first book that I have read by this author, but it won't be the last. Veronica is having issues after she had her baby and can't take care of her. She hasn't been able to hold her in months and is going to therapy to work through her issues. She is trying everything to work through her issues so she will be able to take care of her sweet Sophie again. But then she wakes up one day and Sophie is gone. Who took her? Veronica is desperate to find her child. I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give away any of the twists. Let me say I didn't see any of them coming and this book kept me on the edge of my seat.
Thanks Netgalley and Lake Union for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you to both NetGalley & Lake Union Publishing for an advanced copy of The Waiting Room. The story definitely grabs you from the first page. Veronica has just given birth to her daughter Sophie. She’s suffering from PPD and she awakes to both her husband Nick and her daughter Sophie missing. The story unfolds from there and is a twisty, suspense ride to the end. I recommend this to anyone who enjoyed reading thriller and suspense.

This is a thrillingand fast-paced ride.

Veronica loses her husband soon after giving birth to her daughter Sophia. His death was devastating and in conjunction with postpartum depression these events have left Veronica emotionally vulnerable and unable to cope on her own.

One day, Veronica returns to her home after a counseling session and finds her baby gone. The police are not being as helpful and she wishes, so she takes it upon herself to find her daughter.

This was a fast-paced book with unexpected turns. I can't reveal much about the book except that I recommend it to readers of thrillers, mysteries and contemporary fiction.

Received ARC from the publisher via Netgalley

N ick & Veronica and their baby girl Sophie seem to be the perfect family, but all is not well.

Veronica wakes up one night when she hears Sophie crying, she discovers both Nick and Sophie are missing..
(.We later learn that Nick was killed in some sort of accident). when she sees his car is gone she thinks he took Sophie for a drive to quiet her.

She gets a text message from him "I'm sorry, it was my fault_.

Six months later finds Veronica's mom living with her as she battle post partum depression. She cannot bring herself to touch Sophie.

She is a children's book illustrator and her drawings of a little blond girl running for her life are upsetting because she doesn't remember drawing them.

She becomes friends with a man she meets in her therapist's waiting room who tells her he works at a bank-he is actually a Private Investigator.

When Sophie goes missing again she asks for his help in finding her.

She finds Sophie and rescues her. However the baby isn't Sophie but the daughter of Nick's second wife.

It turns out that Sophie died when she was in kindergarten, she was on the school bus which was on its way to her school on a rainy morning when it was struck by a drunk driver ( who was the son of her g=friend Gillian) .

This was a very confusing story to follow; going back and forth in time and through Veronica's "memories", I had figured out early on the Veronica was mentally unstable and couldn't get over her grief of Nick dying and Sophie being injured in the car accident but I couldn't figure out how Sophie went missing the second time.

I could in no way imagine that Sophie was actually dead.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Intense, raw and incredibly well written! I thought I knew Veronica and her story then BOOM! This book took a turn I didn't see coming. I was hooked right from the beginning, and I'm quickly becoming a major fan of Emily Bleeker. Her writing is incredible. This is a must read!

This story grabbed my attention from the first page and never let me go. A sad, but real, portrayal of mental illness, grief, and healing. Another great book by Emily Bleeker that I highly recommend.

I literally devoured this in under 12 hours. It was just that good! What started slow quickly picked up and delved into multiple twists and turns! This is the third book of Bleeker’s that I have read and while they have all been extremely different (I have yet to read Working Fire), they all have one thing in common - they are all excellent. When Veronica starts therapy to grieve the loss of her husband, she meets both Gillian and Mark in the waiting room and what happens next will definitely interest you!

When I first picked up this book, I was really intrigued by the story, and excited to read a book about a mother who was dealing with postpartum depression. As you all most likely know, I dealt with that after I had my son, but this book just...it fell flat after that. In The Waiting Room by Emily Bleeker, what starts out as the story of loss and PPD, turns into some weird flipped around tale of deception, gaslighting and lord knows what else.

After the death of her husband, Veronica hasn't been able to touch her infant daughter. She's afraid something bad will happen if she does, so her mother stays with her in order to give Sophie the care that she needs, but as Veronica deals with her paranoia, the novel gets stranger and stranger.

One day, Veronica comes home to find out that someone took Sophie, and the police aren't interested in finding out who, because they think that Veronica had something to do with it. This sends Veronica on a wild goose chase for her daughter, with some random woman that she met in the waiting room of her psychiatrists office.

The twist in the middle of the book wasn't shocking to me, as it was pretty obvious from the get-go, what was really happening. Maybe I just read too many psychological thrillers, but to shock me, you must have some really good tricks up your sleeves. I always want to enjoy Emily Bleeker's books, but I feel like they are so blah, I probably won't be reading any more of her work.

I give this book 2 out of 5 stars. I didn't enjoy the story that much, and I actually don't even think I finished the book. It wasn't worth it to me.

Thank you to Lake Union for providing me with a free copy of this novel via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This has been one of my favorite psychological thrillers that I have read this year. Right away, Bleeker creates a wonderful atmosphere of a mother that is struggling in her postpartum journey. Veronica's anxiety and depression was written to be raw and real. I really felt that I was with her during these struggles, which made me want to root for her to overcome and get the help she needed. As the novel progressed, I was left in states of shock because of how well Bleeker kept the reader engaged while not giving away too much too fast.

The thing I loved the most about this novel was that I didn't see the twists that were coming - at all. I had three different theories and they were all so wrong. The ending didn't feel rushed, and it made sense. I also really enjoyed how the epilogue didn't tie everything up perfectly. The characters struggles didn't disappear, instead there was growth shown in Veronica's character and the knowledge that there is still growth to happen.
