Lucy takes her mother's ashes to Virginia for burial, although she has no idea why, as her mother has never said anything in the past about the state. Before her death she gives Lucy papers indicating she may have inherited a cottage in Virginia.. The inheritance is huge - both monetarily and in terms of land. However Lucy has to stay for at least a year. While in Virginia the townspeople recognize her as being Beth's daughter as she looks so much like her mom. Lucy has another mission - who is her father and why did she inherit the cottage?. A fascinating book allowing the reader to play who's who right along with Lucy, By books end, Lucy has acquired what she thought she would never have, ka family. Good book..
Better than expected. The character development was actually really good. The tropes in the book prevented me from fully loving it, however, this is a solid plot with a solid idea. Definitely not a waste of an afternoon.
Lucy Kincaid is bringing her mother’s ashes home to coastal Virginia and a life that Beth never shared with her daughter. Lucy and her dog Dolly are used to living hand to mouth, but all that changes when Lucy discovers she’s inherited a cottage by the sea. The cottage turns out to be a palatial estate in desperate need of a good overhaul, along with several hundred acres of prime land. There’s also millions of dollars to renovate the property if Lucy decides to stay. Told in both the past and the present, this is a story that I really enjoyed, although I was soured on the hero when her offered her a measly $50,000 to take the estate off her hands
