The Warrior Queen by Emily R. King
A fun conclusion to the Hundredth Queen series! This book was so much better than the previous one, which almost made me give up on the series. I loved the three points of view from three strong female characters, and I love that all the storylines are tied up so well in the end. It did move a little slowly for me, but I'm ultimately glad I read it.
Overall, I've really enjoyed Emily R. King's The Hundredth Queen series, but by this book I was starting to feel ready for it to end. That being said, I think she does a great job of tying up the loose ends and giving it a solid ending that didn't feel too trite.
This title is so fitting. WOW! Kali has lost so much, but continues to fight. Great ending to a fabulous series. Be warned, this series cannot be read as stand-alones. The author did a great job of finalizing all that needed to wrapped up.
If I could describe this book in one word.. it would be "Meh"
Basically the plot of the whole book is that Kalinda is trying to save Deven from the Void. Deven is trying to survive in the Void. And Prince Ashwin is trying to unify the nation.
I know I loved the first three books when I was reading them, but this one just didnt do it for me. Not sure if its because I read the first 3 books almost back to back and waited a long time before picking this one up, or if the series would have been better off ending at book 3. Either way this was not the book for me.
This was a thrilling end to a phenomenal series which I have already encouraged others to try. I will be eagerly awaiting future work from Emily R. King!
As a whole, I really liked this series. The first two books were by far my favorites though, with books three and four taking quite a downturn for me. This book was still a very quick and entertaining read and it's definitely a series worth reading. Unfortunately, what started extremely strong ended on a bit of a low note.
I couldn’t get into this book. I tried multiple times and it just didn’t grab my attention. I skimmed through hoping something would grab me but nothing ever did.
Good day! Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest, sincerest gratitude for sending me a digital review copy of this book (via NetGalley). Thank you very much for the opportunity!
Unfortunately, I am sad to say that I have lost interest in this particular title, and consequently, I have decided against finishing it. Forcing myself to finish a book I am disinterested in (solely for the sake of finishing it) can only negatively impact the entirety of my reading experience, which, in turn, could result in me writing an unfairly negative review. That is a circumstance I hope to avoid. With that said, I believe that the best course of action is for me to simply not read it and to refrain from publicly posting any feedback regarding this book.
I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Again, thank you for the lovely opportunity!
If you haven't started this series yet, please do yourself a favor and go, just go and get the first book The Hundredth Queen and read and then you will hate me because you will not be able to stop there, because from there you will get book 2 and 3 and them 4. Each book is better then the previous and this book (4) is the final one and man, it did not disappoint me a all, once I was done I was happy and I will admit, I wanted more because bottom will, you will never get tired of reading about Kalinda and Deven and Ashwin. And that been said...
In the final book, we get to see Kalinda desperately trying to find a way to get Deven back as he is still trapped in the Void. We also get to see his POV in the Vod and what hells he is going through. Kalinda does whatever it takes to get her love back, even it is convincing a god to guide her through the Void. Even if this god has some purpose of his own of helping her. The odds may be against Kalinda, but nothing and no one will stop her.
In the other hand we have Ashwin busy taking over as rajah and fixing the empire, a task that is not small at all. Specially since he has allowed Bhutas into the empire, they no longer have to hide their gifts, but some are not taking his decision so well and are causing trouble. However, Ashwin is not backing down on his decision and he will prove to his people that he is the right rajah and making the right decision. And did I say that Ashwin has moved on from Kalinda and is engaged to Gemi? And we get to see their romance evolve in this book? And have I said that it was my favorite thing EVER. I loved these two together, Gemi has been one of my favorite characters and Ashwin, I mean Ashwin is Ashwin, he is your one of your favorite book boyfriends and getting to see these two fall in love? It was AMAZING! When the book was done, I wanted more.
Ah, there was so much more happening among all of these, but I will leave it for you guys to read it and fall more in love with this book.
5 out of 5 starts and totally recommend it.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
In this finale in The Hundredth Queen series, Kalinda has finally brought peace to the Tarachand Empire, but lost Deven to the Void in the process and now desperately seeks a way to rescue him. Meanwhile in Vanhi, Ashwin, the newly crowned King is struggling to adjust to his new responsibilities and also placate the people. Bhutas may no longer have to hide, but neither are they accepted completely.
Kali's storyline was quite interesting, especially the part about her past lives. The past few books spent quite a bit of time discussing the Gods which all really becomes relevant only now as we finally get to meet one of them. But as good as this part was, it just wasn't enough to balance the rest of the plot which was just causing the story to drag - namely, Ashwin's storyline. He really needed some sense shaken into him. The city is tearing itself apart around him because of widespread discontent against the bhutas still prevalent, not to mention the king getting married to one, but he is very strangely - unexplainably - reluctant to do anything about it, even when his own guards are getting injured in the process.
Apart from that however, this was, as always, an easy read, and a tidy conclusion to this story. Overall, this was an imaginative and entertaining series and it was fun to follow Kalinda's journey through all these books.
After the disaster that was The Rogue Queen, I really wasn't eager to start The Warrior Queen. I started out loving this series and by the end couldn't care less, nor could I recommend it.
On the up side, the covers are absolutely stunning.
I think these stories were just not written by the write author. Not that I don't think this author is talented, but the story felt like a white-washed version of what it could be (and I don't even know what cultural background would suit best because it feels like inspiration was pulled from several). At this point in the series, I don't really care about Kalinda anymore, nor the other point-of-view characters. Her romance with Deven, which I once enjoyed, has soured and I don't ship them either. The battle scenes? I don't even know what was happening with those.
It's a shame as I had hoped The Warrior Queen would redeem the third book but it sealed the fate of this series as one I don't plan to recommend anymore.
The Warrior Queen by Emily R King is everything I ever wanted for this series. This book is the conclusion of The Hundredth Queen series. I feel like so much happened in this book. Kalinda has grown up so much since book one. I feel like we have been friends for a long time and now it is coming to an end.
Ashwin got over his crush! Can you believe it?! I thought he was never going to get over Kalinda. I am so happy that he has finally moved on. Ashwin has had to do so much in this series that I don’t think he gets all the credit that he deserves. He becomes the sudden ruler of Tarachand. It isn’t like his father made things easy because Ashwin is having to overcome the issues that was left behind from his father’s reign.
I also think I loved this book the most because the theme of the story was hope. The characters ha dto have hope to win the war. They had to have hope that they would see their friends again. Hope for acceptance. Even hope for a better future for them. I honestly loved this. I love that this book focused so much on hope. I think that is a reminder that we all need.
King did another fantastic job bringing this book to her readers. I can’t wait to read the series she has next up for us.
I loved this book! It was a perfect fit in the series and the writing and character development were again wonderful. I loved following the characters through their journey in this book! I bought this book and would recommend this series to anyone!
The final instalment in the Hundreth Queen series. I enjoyed the series, it was a good quick and easy to follow read. This book was my least favourite. It felt like there was such a huge build up with all the story lines and then all the sudden within one chapter everything wrapped up. It was such a simple ending, I was left expecting something different. In all I did enjoy the whole series and would recommend to anyone that enjoys the YA category.
The final book was a bit slow to start, and then a bit quick to the end, but ultimately wrapped up the series very nicely. Most of the questions were answered, the conflicts resolved, and everything tied up rather neatly. But I almost feel as though it's still a bit unfinished. I'd love to see a sequel series after a time jump or even a spin off with some of the other characters. It just feels like there's more story to tell.
feels like author is trying to drag the series out, but the book is still good. feels like there's not going to be a true end.
Slow at first with the backstory and keeping readers up to date. But a good wrap up to a book series.
Hello,
Disclaimer I received a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review!
I do have to say I didn't know this was the fourth book in a series when I read it.
While I really enjoyed this book all my issues apart from the fact that this book had a weird pace to it, it was too slow or too fast there was never a good in-between.
The things that didn't make to much sense in the plot where all due to my lack of knowledge from not having read the previous books.
This having been said, the story was still really enjoyable, I loved the badass women and the romance was great.
It did however lack in some parts of the world building, even after having read the resumes of what people said about the world in the other books, which I keep thinking and reading about throughout the whole read.
I did have to take breaks between reads as the slow pace killed my interest at times.
Overall, good book, but certainly not the best or one of the great books I've read in my life.
I ultimately give it : 2.5/5 stars.

didn't really anticipate the story line of The Warrior Queen. It felt a little odd, since book 3 held what would be a typical ending, and book 4 is more of an expansion upon that ending, what comes after the battle is won. It was a good read that kept my interest, but I will say that some of the elements became a little stale.
Like, so much of what we find out is such a contrived, convenient thing because Kalinda is the heroine so "of course she has special connections to make for a perfect flowery thing" and that always reminds me of children's literature because children are thrilled when everything lines up perfectly and a heroine is too perfect, but in YA-teen literature (Kalinda is like 19 in this book by the way) these read poorly and detract from the story. It just felt eye-roll worthy that Kalinda WAS the hundredth rani in a prior life, that she WAS Inanna once and that she's ALWAYS met and loved Deven in all her prior lives. Like it just kinda takes it away because all these background factors kind of go "it was impossible for her to fail, she the triumph is empty; she would have succeeded regardless because she's special and all the stars always align for her."
But setting that aside, I did enjoy the book and am happy that things worked out well in the end; I think all the character connections were really nice throughout the narrative with Indah and Gemi and Natesa and Yatin and Brac and Tinsely carrying through and each one having a part to play; I appreciate books that have a wide, developed cast and that don't just throw in token people to fill in the world as necessary. I think the series overall is like a 3.5 for me, but I don't know if it's something I'll come back to reread. It feels like a "I'm glad I read it once" kind of experience.
With that in mind, I do think that the current eBook prices aren't worth it, but this series is on Kindle Unlimited and goes on sale a lot for .99-1.99 so if you can read it free or snag it for cheap, it's worth looking into :)
Also, to be transparent, I was given a free copy of this via NetGalley, but I also purchased a copy for myself to read, so that fact doesn't shift my review or opinions one way or another.
I've really enjoyed every book in this series. It makes me sad that this is the end. It was a fantastic series to escape to. Full of powerful women and action, it's a series to not miss.
