Tina Gabrielle's "How to Tempt an Earl" earns a middling 3 stars from this reader. Heroine Grace Ashton's daring escapades and her encounter with the sinfully attractive Ian Swift add a certain flair to the story. The premise of a secret identity adds a layer of intrigue. However, while the plot is undeniably fast paced, the character development feels a bit rushed, leaving me wanting more depth. The twist of tutoring turning into a hasty marriage provides a charming touch, but at times it seemed like a predictable turn of events. "How to Tempt an Earl" is an enjoyable historical romance for those seeking a quick and lively read, though it didn't quite hit the high notes for a more stellar rating in my book.
I tried really hard to get into this book and it's completely possible it was just my mindset at the time. I can see myself enjoying How to Tempt an Earl at a later date but right now, it just wasn't for me.
Am I becoming somewhat jaded? This new contribution to the vastly growing Regency trope of rakish casino owner (Ian Swift—who’s suddenly inherited an earldom) meets miss (Grace Ashton) with either a relative (father—Baron Newbury) with a problem or else needs employment is well done but not the most engaging I've read. Still this title is a good entry into this genre.
All characters are believable and there is a satisfying conclusion.

This is my first book by Tina Gabrielle and I would definitely try her again, but this book wasn't anything special in my mind and I ended up skimming quite a bit. I was annoyed from the beginning, because it was definitely an insta-lust story, and while that can work for me sometimes, it can also get boring. Ian is immediately drawn/intrigued/whatever to Grace the minute she walks into his gaming hall, mask and hooded cloak included, and within minutes he's thinking of having sex with her and getting hard. It's just like ... woah, ease up there boy. Grace, for her part, acted stupidly sometimes and her responses or reactions didn't always make complete sense.

London society is cruel for a young woman whose father is an avid gambler. Miss Grace Ashton is not one to stand idly by while her family becomes destitute. Donning a mask, she slips into the night and attends the infamous Raven Club to confront the proprietor. But nothing prepares her for the sinfully attractive and wealthy Ian Swift.
This was a pretty good book that I really enjoyed. I liked the story and both main characters. I look forward to reading more from this author.

How to Tempt an Earl was the second book I've read from Tina Gabrielle. I enjoyed the first book I read from her and have to say the second was every bit as wonderful.
Let me just say I loved Grace Ashton and Ian Swift from the moment we met them both. I love that Grace is such a strong person she has no issue going to a gambling house to yell at the owner for letting her father continue to gamble. She also is smart she takes a secret job doing accounting work to help keep her family afloat. I love when we get a really smart and strong heroine, and Grace was both. Ian was such a rogue when we first met him, yet there was something about him that just pulled me to him. His story with his father about broke my heart, yet I knew there was way more to him than he let most people see. I loved that he cared so much for his family and even though he would rather do anything else on earth, he stepped up and accepted being an Earl to take care of his mother and sisters.
I felt a connection between Grace and Ian from the moment they first met. While they really seemed at odds much of the time, I loved their chemistry only grew stronger the more time they spent together. I also loved that Grace saw more to Ian than others pretty much from the beginning, yet still had to be told so much to see the complete man. I have to say watching Ian and Grace fall in love gave me all the feels. They really seemed to just complete one another, even when they didn't agree with each other. I think the fact that Ian had so much respect for how Grace did anything in her power to take care of her family made me fall in love with him just a little bit.
How to Tempt an Earlwas a wonderful romance and I think fans of historical romances will fall in love with this story. There were so many other characters we met in this book I loved along with the hero and heroine, and I hope we get each of their books in the future.

Short review: I LOVED IT!
A young woman, who wants to save her family. A man who owns a gambling hell and is the reason for her family’s problems. Meet Grace Ashton and Ian, the Earl of Castleton. He is the owner of the Raven Club, an infamous gambling hell. She is the daughter of a gambler.
Do I need to say more?
Because he inherited the earldom, he needs a tutor in good manors and society rules. Grace needs him to stop her father from gambling everything away. Can they come together? Can they arrange a deal?
Oh, I loved the story of those two very different individuals. When she steps into his bedroom the first time because he wants to show her his new cloths, he probably doesn’t think about this being scandalous. But he also wants his sisters to live with him, something that isn’t easy to achieve. He needs to be somebody he never wanted to be, being the spare.
5 stars!

I am a big historical romance lover. I throughly enjoyed the story and how it unfolded and how they fell in love.
I enjoy historical romances set in England and How to Tempt an Earl did not disappoint. Grace and Ian had an immediate chemistry and felt the zing when they met under less than ideal circumstances – at his gaming club, The Raven Club. From there their attraction kept ratcheting up a notch throughout the story except when it wasn’t. They didn’t always see eye to eye but seemed to understand each other better than some of their family and friends.
Grace is in her third season and with a dwindling dowry isn’t sure how she can keep her family afloat. With a young brother, a dad who both drinks and gambles to excess, and a household staff to support she becomes creative. When Ian needs a tutor to get him back into society things get hot and spicy fast! I loved the interactions between them. They both had a depth to them that the other didn’t realize. They liked what they saw as they got to know each other as friends, or do they? There was a nice flow to the story and a few twists and turns along the way. The characters who rounded out the story were a nice addition. There was a happily ever after or is there since Grace and Ian don’t always see eye to eye and she’s not meek and mild by any means. The epilogue which takes place six months after the story ends gave me the closure and glimpse into the future I was hoping for. I look forward to reading more books in the Ravens Club series.
Ms. Gabrielle is a new to me author. I have added a few of her other books to my always growing TBR pile.
Ian Swift has become the new Earl of Castleton after the tragic death of his older brother. Problem is, Ian had left his father's home 10 years earlier and he is now the owner of a gambling house. He's left the rules of the ton behind and does as he pleases with no one to answer to. When Miss Grace Ashton walks into his club to settle her father's death, Ian is intrigue with the lady. He proposes a deal: he'll forgive her father's debts in exchange for a refresher course on the rules of the ton. With no other choice to keep the household running, Grace agrees to his terms.
This plot has been used many times, but Ms. Gabrielle weaves a good story between want and need. I wish the tension between Ian and Grace had lasted a little longer though. Despite that one slight criticism, the story kept my interest throughout and I was happy to see both Ian and Grace learned the art of compromise. Fans of regency romances will enjoy this story.
It's an original story where the father gambles and Grace decides to approach the owner of the casino to stop her father. Ian, the owner, has suddenly become Earl so he needs tutoring into what is expected of him in society. A deal that changed their lives forever. Lovely reading.
This is a fun, fast-paced and steamy historical read. I really liked the characters and the story held my interest throughout. An entertaining read.
How to Tempt an Earl is a tempting historical romance. Good solid plot and characters help the story progress nicely.
How to Tempt an Earl is a pretty sweet book by Tina Gabrielle. Grace is in an awful spot, her father is a gambler and is losing more and more since her mother died. She has a younger brother who will have no inheritance whatsoever if her father continues his ways. Grace is determined to block her father's gambling and drinking, she decides to visit his favorite gambling and demands to speak to the owner, Ian.
Ian is sexy and oh so sinful in Grace's eyes. Of course, he refuses to help her block her father's game play at his club. But Ian is instantly attracted to Grace and makes her a deal - he will help her deal with her father if she helps tutor him for his entree back into society.
Grace agrees, she's stuck between a rock and a hard place, but quickly realizes there is more to Ian than the hardened gambling club owner displays to his peers. He has two younger sisters who he loves and wants to see them make grand happy marriages.
These tutoring sessions start to heat up and inevitably Grace and Ian will be caught and Grace compromised. But Grace has a real moral dilemma on her hands - can she marry a man who has helped engineer her father's downfall? And worse yet, can she fall in love with the same man?
There is very obvious heat and chemistry between Grace and Ian and they light up the pages when they are together. Ian hides behind his rakish demeanor and Grace struggles to present a perfect picture of herself while in society.
Highly recommended for historical romance readers who enjoy a passionate marriage of convenience trope and solid, likable, realistic characters who richly deserve a happy ending.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Grace and Ian had to deal with undesirable situations for themselves. Coming together helped each other as well as some in their immediate circle. I loved Grace's determination and hope that things would improve. Ian's misplaced guilt kept him a bit cold, but when things became clearer for him, I cheered. This story had me laughing, cringing, and crying. I highly recommend this book.
I received a copy of this book through Netgalley, and it is a Book Obsessed Chicks Review Team selection. This is my unsolicited review.
4.5 Stars - Kicked out by his father years ago, Ian found his salvation in gaming. Rather than a wastrel who loses all he has at the tables, Ian worked and saved until he could open his own establishment, the Raven Club. Now that he has more wealth than any one man needs, the last thing he wants is a title hanging around his neck. But as the new Earl of Castleton, the place that has been his haven is now a source of great contention. While the aristocracy keep establishments like the Raven Club in business, owning such a venture spells trouble for his sister's marriage prospects. In walks Grace, hoping to settle her father’s debts with jewels and she ends up bartering social grace services for forgiveness of his debt.
Their proximity feeds the chemistry and interest that they both hope to fight. When they’re found in a compromising situation, it forces their hand. What follows is a tale of how love and affection can grow and in so doing enhance and transform all those who bask in the rays of that love.
It’s a great read with heart and heat in equal measure. I recommend it.
I received an ARC of this book, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Jaded by their past experiences, disappointed by family, both hero and heroine in this story need to learn how to trust and love again.
This is a well written story with likeable and some not so likeable characters, lots of sizzle, a few broken promises, and a HEA.
The author paints a picture with words that allows the reader to be in the story and feel the heroines pain and joy. This was a fast moving, didn’t want to put it down, story.
For some who it may matter, this story touches on addictions to gambling and alcoholism (not our H or h).
I look forward to the next in this series.
I received this book through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
This book delved into the difficulties of families and one's obligations to them and how that shapes a person's character and their chances at love. The main characters, the daughter of an indebted gambler and the man who owns the gambling den, are an unlikely pairing but some how Gabrielle makes them work. We get to see both characters grow out of their set perceptions and opinions as they come to know one another's character. The end felt a little rushed but I enjoyed watching the characters grow and find love despite the challenges their respective fathers had put in their lives.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ out of 5
Abso-frickin-lutely loved this book! While I think the whole gambling club owner trope has been done A LOT this was a much less angsty version and I loved both characters immensely!
.
The story revolves around the heroine, the daughter of a baron, who is desperate to pay off her father’s gambling debts by meeting with the club’s owner and offering him her deceased mother’s jewels. Enter the hero, the club owner, who declines the payment but makes her a different offer- tutor him to become a gentleman (he has just become an earl- queue gasps here 😱). She agrees, and after being caught in a (very) heated embrace together they are forced to wed (love this trope).
.
One of the things I loved most about this book was actually the lack of angst. The heroine is a go-getter- not only in approaching the club owner but in finding a secret job so she can pay the servants wages. None of this laying around and despairing over circumstances (I so relate to this on a personal level). The hero has made something of himself and has no regrets, he also has hidden depths that make him so much more than a gambling club owner. Together sparks fly 💥💥 between the 2 and leave me so thoroughly satisfied that I couldn’t put it down (nor did I want to).
