The police are perplexed when a series of home invasions leads to Robin Hood type donations to various charities the day after. When Detective Jessica Daniel uncovers a possible connection between the robberies and the unsolved murder of a notorious criminal, will what her investigation reveal lead the woman straight into danger? Will a personal favor lead Jessica down a dangerous path?
I like police procedural thrillers featuring strong female characters, but the complications in Jessica's personal life completely overshadow the investigative process. I have liked other books in this series, but I was disappointed with the pacing and the lack of character development. Overall, if skipping a book would prove to not be confusing to the story arc that travels between the novels, I would recommend not reading For Richer, For Poorer.
Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of For Richer, For Poorer by NetGalley and the publisher, Bookouture. The choice to review this book was my own.
Fantastic read! Jessica Daniel is my favourite Detective! Kerry Wilkinson bring her characters to life so well.
While I do love this series and I have been reading it from the first book, I wasn't thrilled with this story. I thought it was a fast-paced, breathtaking beginning and then It slows down to a snails pace. It does pick back up again eventually but I had hard time staying interested. I do look forward to the next book in this series.
I have been following this series since the beginning and I really enjoy the characters. I found this book to be a bit slower moving than the others, but I enjoyed the story.
Looking forward to seeing what they get up to next!
For Richer, For Poorer by Kerry Wilkinson is the latest in the series featuring DI Jessica Daniel. The current bothersome case involves home invasions and robberies of cash and jewelry involving unusual prior knowledge of the homes and their security systems. The new DCI is frustrated and wants the robberies solved posthaste.
If that were not bad enough, the day following each robbery, the police begin getting calls from various charities saying someone made huge anonymous donations in cash. Are the thieves taking a page from the Robin Hood tales?
In another tangle, Bex asks Jessica to see if she can help a friend whose neighbor's activities are disturbing her...which leads to a revelation involving sex trafficking.
Jessica is still dealing with the aftermath of events in the last book and a new DCI who doesn't appear to have much confidence in Jess or her abilities.

Detective Jessica Daniel has her hands full with some home invasions that leaves families wondering if they will be next. Jessica finds a link between the home invasions and the un-solved murder of a notorious criminal, so who is doing this and why? Then there is a problem from her past that could be her un-doing. This person is watching and waiting to strike. Can Jessica and the gang get it all figured out to save not only families but Jessica herself? Oh did I mention she has a new boss in this one? Just add more logs to the fire. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Net Galley. This is my own opinion of it.
Another compelling read in this tenth book of the excellent police procedural series featuring Detective Jessica Daniel of the Longsight Police. In this outing, as usual, Jessica is juggling multiple cases but most of the focus is on solving one that involves home invasion robberies. In addition, there's a human trafficking situation. Jessica's colleagues are mostly the same as in previous books with a few changes, most notably the second appearance of DS Archie Davey and the absence of DCI Jack Cole -- so she has a new boss. I enjoy her interaction with the team.
I am a fan of this series and I've read them all, in order, and would urge anyone interested to do the same so that you see all of what Jessica has gone through from the start. Her character is well-developed and constantly adapting to the events that happened and the people she works with. I look forward to #11 and definitely like the writing style of Kerry Willkinson. The plots are usually quite complex and, though there is action, the pace is more measured as the investigations develop.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the e-book ARC to read and review.
This was the first book that I have read by Kerry Wilkinson and the first book in the Jessica Daniels series (this is book #10). I will now have to go back and catch myself up to understand a lot of the plot that I am lacking due to not reading the first nine books in the series. This was a fun, fast paced, suspenseful read for me. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the married couple Harry (Harriet) and Ian and their doldrums like marriage which gets turned up a notch by unexpected visitors in the night. This unlikely and unfortunate event sets the pace for the rest of the book which will later introduce the protagonist, Jessica Daniels, in chapter 2.
Jessica Daniels is a detective who is faced with solving ongoing crimes in her city as a string of burglaries has been occurring in the rich neighborhoods. The thieves are taking notes from Robin Hood and feel as if they are doing the less fortunate communities a favor by "robbing the rich to give to the poor". Jessica throws herself into her work, not just because she enjoys her job, but rather to distract herself from the fact that her lover, Adam, was blown up in her car a while back. While she is grieving she makes it her mission to rid the world of crime, as well as solve the mystery of what really happened in the so-called car "accidental" explosion. There are several different twists and turns and plots that will really keep you on the edge of your seat as you literally watch the drama unfold right before your eyes as if it were a movie.
Things really get kicked up a notch when Jessica's not-so-much roommate, Bex, asks her to help her college friend out who is having difficulties at her flat. When Jessica agrees to check things out, she's in for more than she bargained for when a world of human trafficking is thrust upon her lap. The ending of the book through me for a loop and I had to reread it again to make sure I had read it right. It really is a surprising twist of an ending, yet one, I know Jessica is happy about (in my personal opinion).
All in all this was an great read and I enjoyed it. I would like to thank Noelle Holten of Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this advanced reader's copy.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this arc.
I keep meaning to read this series front to back, beginning to end but haven't managed to do so yet. This is the 3rd in this series of 10 that I've read and it was nice to meet up with the familiar characters again as well as meeting some new ones. But I've got to go back and fill in with the other books in this run. For me, there were gaps and it's my own fault for not following along. This was an enjoyable read (even with my self-inflicted gaps).
Overall, an fast paced story with multiple crimes / criminals woven up into a complex spider web of a book.
Another great book in the Jessica Daniel series. There are a few cases Jessica is investigating. Home invasion burglaries and human trafficking are a couple of them. The new DCI is a bit of a jerk to Jessica but she soldiers on to get the job done. The ending blew me away. I had no preconceived idea of what it would be but it is brilliant. Looking forward to the next book. Thank you NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
