This book was fine, but I really didn't connect with either of the characters. They seemed to act completely out of character depending on what the situation called for. They were both perfectly fine, but there wasn't anything special enough about either of them to make me understand why they were even attracted to each other.
This book opens with Lexie Kosta who is the town Librarian getting caught reading a sexy romance novel, maybe steamy. The man catching her is Joe Van Der Meer, later when one of her pipes burst in the home that she is renovating when she calls for a plumber he is the one who shows up. The story goes on with him helping her with fixing her pipes and of course later they work on some of the story lines from the books she has read. Though it makes for a nice story I did not find all of the scenes to be a totally BDSM like other books that I have read. I did find some of the scenes of her and of them swimming to be some of the better ones from this book as for the way the author describe them they had more of a natural flow to them. Overall not a bad story has some nice characters in it as well.
Great quick read on how an attraction can quickly build and how they both reach a mutual agreement that will benefit one another
Between the title and the description, I couldn't help but grab it up for a read. I thought it would be funny...and it was to point and then it just got to be a wee bit much for me. To each their own.
The over-the-top hilarity and fast-paced writing style paired with the heat level between the couple left me feeling like I was watching a cheesy porn, and hey there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, however that wasn't quite what I was going for nor was it expected. Slow the roll and give more build-up between the couple and BAM! your're cooking.

When I first heard that Entangled was starting a Scorched imprint, I was curious as to how erotic their erotica line of short novels would truly be. If Laying Pipe is any example, the answer to my question is: not erotic at all, which is one of many reasons I found this book to be utterly dreadful, and if I could give it zero stars, I would have, but since I can't, it's 1-star for this reader.
The basic plot is simple, very simple, mousy librarian Lexie, has moved to a tiny town on the shores of Lake Michigan. She likes to read erotic novels when not busy at her job. One slow day, in walks sexy, blonde, and handsome hunk, Joe, he's a plumber and is looking for a book on how to write a business plan, as he's planning to expand his plumbing company and will have a better chance of getting the bank loan he'll need if he already has a business plan in hand. No surprise, there are sparks.
Lexie, has used her inheritance from her parents to purchase a large, run-down, 1920-something beach house and is refurbishing it by herself, and it's going well until a pipe bursts and water is pouring down the side of her house. Of course, it's the weekend, so when she calls a local plumbing company, freaking out at the additional costs, it's CB Plumbing to the rescue, and it's Joe's company. More sparks, and the two strike a deal--Joe will correct all the plumbing issues in his free time, his estimate was $6,000 (more than Lexie could afford), if she'll help him write his business plan, and so begins more attraction, and more plumbing/pipe jokes than any human should have to be exposed to.
Joe doesn't find Lexie mousy at all, he finds her sexy, and likes that she's smart, and that she reads erotic novels, so I expected some really hot action between these two characters. Yes, there was plenty of action, but no, on the hotness scale of 1 to 10, it was a barely a 1.
Each chapter in this short novel had a totally unnecessary and corny subtitle, and it reminded me of the weekly readers I'd read in grammar school. No matter what kind of sex these two were having (they were exploring kink), Lexie was giggling like a schoolgirl, in fact, she rarely stopped giggling. Then, since Lexie seemed willing to try some BDSM, it went from bad to worse, because it was really apparent that the author had no clue about the BDSM lifestyle, and never got to the safe, sane and consensual rule. To make silly sex scenes and role-playing games even worse, nowhere in this book did these two characters ever have safe sex or even discuss pregnancy prevention or birth control, something I found totally irresponsible, and something the author should have known enough to include.
Also, nowhere in this book do these two characters ever have an intelligent conversation, or get to know one another on a deeper level. Neither character was given much of a backstory, and instead of providing one, we got more corny dialogue and more bad plumbing jokes. The only person I can think of who found them funny was Lexie, the giggler.
Yes, towards the end there's a bit of drama relating to small town politics, but it wasn't dramatic enough, and the solution was far too simplistic to be believed. Even what appears to be an HEA ending was incomplete and seemed rushed, as if the author had to keep this novel to a maximum word count. Some sort of epilogue would have been a huge improvement on a book that simply petered out at the end.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
This is a fun and steamy read. Lexie, the librarian by day and renovating her beach house by night while find some stolen moments to enjoy some erotic reads. Joe walks into the library and sparks fly. When he shows up at her door to fix her pipe she gets more than she bargained for. Entertaining read with plenty of steamy scenes. I liked it!
I’m going to be frank. I really wanted to like this book. A lot. I wanted to enjoy it because it features a librarian! But… I found myself letdown more than thrilled by the romance of Laying Pipe.
Lexie runs the local library. It is…. not really a library like I’ve worked at but I’ve tried to forgive that. It’s the way things happens with librarians in romance books. Not always the most accurate portrayals. On top of running the library, Lexie is renovating the house she purchased to turn it into a B&B. It’s a great goal and something that makes her happy. Unfortunately, well, we’ve all seen enough episodes of various HGTV shows to know that no renovation goes smoothly. And that is just the case when water starts gushing down the sides of her house walls. Not good.
When she calls in a plumber, the man who answers the call just happens to man she kissed at the library earlier in the day. Joe Van der Meer is intrigued by Lexie. She is definitely into him. Let the sexual fun begin.
I never really connected to these characters and their attraction to each other. I’m not sure what it is exactly but I never got pulled into their romance. I definitely appreciated what Lexie was working towards with the B&B. I always admire a hardworking person, but when it came to Joe and Lexie, I felt rather meh overall. It was disappointing to say the least.
I think I wanted to see these characters bare themselves to each other in honest ways and I’m not sure that ever happened for me.
Not a bad book. I didn’t hate it at all. Unfortunately, Laying Pipe fell into the just average romance category for me.
Definitely be sure to check out some of the other reviews on Goodreads to see if Laying Pipe is the right book for you! I firmly believe every book has its perfect reader.
Laying Pipe is available now.
Thought this was a cute book, plenty of hilarious laughs and the chemistry between Lexie and Joe is so very hot!
The eroticism was off the charts and the chemistry between Lexie and Joe sizzled. This was a cute story. Lots of sexiness which is a signature of the Entangled Scorched line.
A cute story with two lovable characters. The romance is sweet, sexy and they have a great chemistry.Their story was a good one with a lot of sexy times but I felt some of the descriptions of things were too much and this make me find it a little bit boring!I hope everyone enjoy it more than I did!
This was a quick read for me. I loved the characters - the kooky kinky librarian with this really hot guy. The dialogue was witty at times. I'd recommend if you have a few hours and want to get lost in a quick fun read!
Kate took a job as a librarian in a little ton and decided to change the house she bought into a bed and breakfast. Joe has lived in this town his whole life and a trip to he library shows him there is more to the books in in there. Their little flirtation will turn into so much more when her pipes go bad in her house and Joe is the plumber available.
Not only is he laying the pipes in her house but also they are filling some pipes of their own.
This book is fun and hot. It red fast and kept my interest from beginning to end.
** I received a copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review**
I just couldn't with this book. Within the first 3 minutes of the two meeting our MC, Lexie, giggles and saunters, throatily whispers. Within 5 minutes they make out with each other apparently overcome with desire. No tension, no chemistry, no thank you.
I can’t believe how much this story keeps you in, makes us all want to get a plumber in our life! Certainly the town will try to win again soon
3.5 Stars
Laying Pipe by Kate Allure is the story of Lexie Kosta and Joe Van der Meer.
Lexie is a Librarian who is working toward opening a B&B. Lexie also likes to read Hot Romance novels in her spare time. Joe happens to come into the library to look for books toward business interest. They share a steam encounter thinking nothing more but then Lexie needs help with her plumbing. Which leads her to meet up with Joe again.
This was a cute, easy hot read for sure.
This book has a cute premise with the heroine a librarian also trying to do up a B&B in her spare time and the hero a Plummer who walks into her library needing help finding a book. And it goes very much downhill from there.
.
I get that the hero is a plummer but the pipe and plumbing puns were excessive- they started off funny and cute then just got eye rollingly worse (at least 2-3 PER PAGE). Apparently the couple had enough sexual chemistry that they started sticking tongues down each other’s throat after exchanging maybe 2 words in a library in the middle of the day, did I believe it? Not at all. Then there is the fact that the heroine objectified the hero as a sexual object/piece of meat. Some people seem to think that’s the norm for romance novels but I’ve never felt uncomfortable with it before- and I did here. Got to page 40/118 before I threw in the towel and that was me giving it more than it was worth.
Lexie and Joe are just a hot hot couple. I loved all the euphemisms and sexiness in the book. It is a very quick read but still with plenty of spice. If you have a need for short and steamy this book could be for you.
I voluntarily reviewed an reader copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
Laying Pipe is quite upfront about the fact that it's going to be a pun-heavy trashy romance novel, and it delivers on those expectations.
I really liked Lexie and Joe as a couple, and as long as you're willing to lean in to the punnyness and roll your eyes occasionally, this is an enjoyable romantic comedy featuring a librarian and a plumber. Lexie and Joe have internal relationship struggles, but there's also an external source of drama, and I appreciated the balance.
This was an okay, quick read. The writing flowed well, and the characters were good. This had A LOT of plumbing references though. It was funny the first couple of chapters, but then it got a little repetitive. Lexie was supposed to be this mousy librarian, and after one conversation with Joe, turns into this sex goddess. It was too much of a change too fast for me. Joe and Lexie were pretty good together, until the drama started. This was one of those instances were a conversation would have solved everything. They eventually work their problems out, and everything falls into place. There was a HEA. This was a first for me from this author, and I would read her again.

Lexie Kosta runs a small town library during the day and is trying to rebuild her beach house at night to turn into a B&B. She loved reading especially bdsm books and that how the sexy man catches her. Joe Van Der Meer is completely taken with the hot librarian and they have such a connection minutes after meeting they share a scorching hot kiss. Lexie is so embarrassed but figured she'll never see him again. But when a pipe burst in her house the emergency plumber she calls ends up being Joe. They two discover ways to make plumbing and tools sexy. Scorching hot quick read. I'll definitely be reading this author again.
