What a great book to encourage young girls to have courage and use their voice to make a change! I wish I had read something like this when I was younger.
This was such a pleasant surprise. As a retired social stuides teacher, I've always felt pretty knowledgible about important young women - I love sharing many stories in my classes. Rad Girls Can taught me a number of stories I needed to know. Fantastic Job!
This book was so fun! These stories are inspiring, interesting and they stimulated my curiosity so much.
It's a great collection for teens that want to read about what you can do at their age and how impactful you can be. The style is entriguing, empowering and engaging.
The biggest flaw of Rad Girls Can is probably its format: 100 pages is great for young girls to get into incredible lives and enterprises but i feel like it could have been way longer, with more stories.
This book is all about girls who are not much spoken about their stories. I found this stories very interesting and inspiring.
I am a huge fan of Rad Women A to Z and Rad Women Worldwide so it is no surprise that I adored this book. From visiting familiar heroes to meeting a whole host of new ones, this was a pleasure to read and view--I am a huge fan of the artwork. I will gladly purchase any and all collaborations between these two women.
That there are so many girls in this book who were born in the 90s, years that I can actually remember, and now they're adults influencing the world? First off: that's amazing.
Second: God, I'm old. I remember 1998!
4.5 Stars
This was very enjoyable and the stories about the girls were captivating. The only reason why it didn’t get 5 Stars is because the stories could have been a bit more in depth. Still, I liked that the stories weren’t too long, it helped keeping me focused.
I think everyone should read this but especially younger people, not just girls but boys too.
Girls need more representation and models and this was perfect for it.
Rad Girls is a collection of short stories featuring amazing women from all around the world.
I appreciated the diversity of the women we met here, as well as the diversity of everything they did and their talents, from swimming and other sports to politics, feminism, LGBT+ rights, medias and so on. If there were some young girls and stories I was already familiar with, I learned so much about others and I appreciated that so much.
Plus, I loved that we got so many diverse women featured, from all around the world, with different beliefs, origins and with each their own uniqueness to share.
When it comes to the writing, this book is more of an informational style and some stories could have been a bit expanded. I loved learning about their projects and hopes and dreams and accomplishments in their sometimes very young age, yet I feel like, at times, the stories were too short, which left me a bit frustrated. I wanted to get into details, but I completely understand that it wasn’t necessarily possible in this kind of book, especially if you wanted to feature a lot of different women in it, too.
I also enjoyed this book’s formatting – with illustrations, drawn portraits of each of the women mentioned in the story, sometimes taking half a page, some other times an entire page. The artwork was really beautiful.
This book is very inspiring and empowering to read, it encourages us to do more and stand up for what we believe in. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in short biographies, wanting to learn more about young women in the world and to be inspired by others’ incredible accomplishments.
I liked how this book included a lot of girls and women that aren't that well known but did something important for their community and we should talk about them. It's just refreshing to hear about different women and girls than you already know about. I also liked how they included girls and women who made a difference through the internet, mostly through blogs. I also loved how a lot of these girls made their change when they were little or a teenager. I just really liked the selection of women and girls they included into this book. I just didn't like the writting that much. It became boring at some points and made me want to skim.
I received this copy as an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to both Kate Schatz and NetGalley for this opportunity!
I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of short biographies focusing on amazing women all over the world who have made a difference one way or another. This included so many different people: girls I have heard of before as well as new to me GIRL BOSSES and I'm so glad there are books coming out like this to shine the light on the importance of women throughout history! I do not have much more to say other than how happy I am to have read this book this month and definitely hope you guys check it out when it is released on the 17th of July!
This is a very inspiring collection of data.
I wouldn't call it a book, it's not even a collection really. More like a journal of various achievements by different women. It's something you want to shelf somewhere nearby for a rainy day.
Their stories are written in a Wikipedia style more or less. Facts and data kept unchanged, I think. Which makes it so much more powerful and heartbreaking, also really uplifting when you think you're having it hard.
This book is ultimately a really good source of research about female success stories that come from unwelcome and harsh backgrounds.
The only problem that I think some people might have is that these stories are rather short and general - when you really associate with one of them, you'll want to do a more thorough research to read about all their emotions and thoughts while going through these accomplishments. It's never as simple as a four-page story.
But it's a damn good start.
This book would make a fantastic present for a girl who loves art, sports, crafts etc. and isn't sure she has got what it takes to make a life out of it!
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read this.
I like to think that I have my finger on the pulse when it comes to Rad Girls, but whenever I read these books I am always surprised to find out there are only a handful that I have heard of before reading the book and with this edition of Rad Girls Can, I found the same thing to be true. Why are there so many Rad Girls out there that I otherwise have not heard about? Where is all the media and social media coverage for them? At least I keep reading these books to educate myself and I hope that if you have a daughter you give her these books to read as well so she can find out about the Rad Girls out there and hopefully follow in their footsteps!
This book contains 50 girls - all of who have done amazing things before they even turned 20 years old. It also includes some who are transgender. The book notes that it believes in celebrating the greatness of all young people, but this book only focuses on females. This book is full of great and inspiring stories of all these girls that have done amazing things. It kind of makes me feel like quite a slacker! But I always enjoy reading about girls who kick ass, and these in this book certainly do.
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
