Time travel, Faerie Flags, and highlanders come together in this book for good tale.
Ebook from net galley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
Ashley found the words just wouldn’t come. Her agent was past being mice and her publishers were not happy with her. Ashley had been writing about historical Scotland and the clans for years. Kate was Ashley’s best friend and they had been roomies and had went to Scotland together. Ashley had went for inspiration as Ashley had a bad case of writer’s block. Ashley already had eight books out. Her publishers as well as agent were thinking more books and another series and it put Ashley’s head in a vice. The pressure was stifling and affecting her writing. The tour Ashley and Kate were on was very planned and they were hitting every hot spot in the country. Ashley hated shopping but Kate pointed out Ashley had souvenirs to buy. Eion is from the past and travels to the future to find the fairy flag. And then he sees Ashley grabs the fairy flag and Ashley and he goes back to his time. Ashley uses this time in the past to learn as much as she can about the past.
I had mixed feelings I do advise you to read the other books in this series for a smoother read. There was romance, travel, writers block, the past, time travel, a fairy flag and so much more in this book. This was a quick easy read. I was confused however why Eion had to get the fairy flag and why he felt it would be safer in someone else’s hands. I also don’t believe a leader would just leave his clan even for love. The is responsibility and loyalty to his clan involved where did that go? At least that is the impression I got from other books I have read and even while traveling in Scotland. I didn’t feel the romance was natural kore rushed or insta lust actually. But there was hot chemistry. So as I said I had mixed feelings.
Thank you to Netgalley, the Publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this book in return for my honest opinion.
This was a great summer read, just what I needed, a break from all the dark books that I have been reading lately. It was light and enjoyable, I loved the characters and Eion definitely fit the dreamy Scotsman type. There were a few errors that bugged me, Eion's little sister was referred to as a brother in a few spots but other than that, it was good. The book ended a little differently than I thought it would and I liked that.
I will definitely check out more of this author's books because sometimes we just need a feel good dreamy romance to sweep us away to foreign lands.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
This was a cute, quick read filled with time travel, romance, and fairies. Eion goes to the future to find the fairy flag and encounters Ashlynn. He grabs the flag and Ashlynn and goes back to his time.
Ashlyn is not really upset for long and uses the time to learn as much as she can about the time as she is a writer of Scottish romances set in that time period.
While I enjoyed the story, I was confused about why Eion always had to go find the fairy flag and why he felt it was safer with Korrina instead of him. A little more explanation on that would have been nice.
I did like that Eion choose to go to the future and gave up leading his clan for Ashlyn and they had a HEA.
I am voluntarily submitting my honest review after receiving an ARC of this ebook via NetGalley,
This novel blends elements of historical fiction, fantasy and time travel into a sweet, romantic, light-hearted quick read. While entertaining, this book just fell flat for me. SPOILER ALERT!!!
SPOILER ALERT!!! The hero and heroine have great sexual chemistry, but on a deeper, emotional level, their romance feels rushed and forced. Though she knows something important is missing, Ashlyn clings to the familiar, unwilling to let go of her previous life. Eoin, on the other hand, seems all too willing to throw away a full life and crucial responsibilities that should be at the core of his very identity. Perhaps a full-length novel would have allowed more time to fully develop their story to make their motivations more plausible, but as it stands, both just seemed selfish and foolhardy, though it is clear that the intention was to show that they were seizing their destinies. Perhaps I would have better understood the book and enjoyed it more if I had read other books in the Enchanted Keepsakes series. Even though I didn't particularly enjoy this story, it did show promise, so I will likely try others in the series to see if I enjoy them more in a broader context.
This is a perfect summer read.. If you want something that has almost zero angst and drama and at the same time has time travel and hot Scot thrown into the story, then this book is definitely for you..
Another truly fascinating tale. If you love historical romances set in Scotland then this book is for you. Eoin and Ashlyn were a solid set of characters. Totally enjoyed
Very intriguing foreword.
She sounds fully-famous to me.
Cool name for a clothing line.
They wouldn't have used the phrase "feels" in the eighteenth century.
Why is the portrait a Flag?
This is definitely kidnapping with a side of drugging.
Lord of the Rings meets Outlander.
Learning Gaelic is definitely on my to-do list.
When did she become a porn star?
Nessie is exactly how I picture Scottish housekeepers at that time.
I would have liked to have seen more of him in the present.
What a terrific premise! Magical attraction, both to an artifact and a woman, a Hot Scot travels to both and it only gets better from there. Only thing I would change would be the dates from the past by a few years as in 1746 wearing of kilts and owning tartans was banned (and the Highlander way of life virtually abolished) by the Dress Act of 1746. Even owning a tartan could get a Highlander killed. Overall, a great read, with believable characters, and again, an enjoyable premise.
Highlander’s Portrait is another sweet Highland Secret’s story. That is not to say that our kilted Scot is anything but a rugged highlander. Heroine Ashlyn states that his muscles have muscles. The sweetness comes from the instant connection between Eoin and Ashlyn. The time travel aspect has Eoin, laird of clan MacLeod, traveling to modern day to take control of the Faerie Flag. Wandering witch Korinna has placed the flag in a picture of Eoin she framed and gave to Ashlyn. Ashlyn is an American and a romance writer who has hit a dry spot and has traveled to Scotland for inspiration.
Eoin and Ashlyn do have that instant connection. Ashlyn does not understand what is happening to her, but she knows that she trusts him without any reason to do so. Eoin places a spell on Ashlyn and her friend to put them to sleep. While under the spell he takes Ashlyn back in time because he realizes he cannot live without her.
Ashlyn is a very forgiving heroine. She spends her time ‘researching’ the period, including interviewing Eoin’s grandfather, for her future books. The magical Fae fascinate her and she accepts how it affected her through her own time travel experience.
This is a great book that is light hearted, sensual and a quick read. If C.A. Szarek is not an author of whom you are familiar, this is a good time to start reading her books. You can start with this one or go back and start at the beginning of the Highland Secrets series. They are all interesting and each one unique centering around the magical Fae.
