This is the first book in a new series by Susan Stoker. This book follows “Gray” and his fellow mountain mercenaries in a mission to rescue a woman who has been taken by human traffickers.
This story was really great. I haven’t read anything from Stoker before, but I am definitely a fan now. She writes great books that are intense, suspenseful and romantic. This is a great start to a series where each book you’ll get to know more of one of the men’s stories. I read this book in one sitting, I couldn’t put it down and have now read others from her. A really great story and can’t wait until the next one comes out.
This is the story of Allye, who had a very sad and loveless childhood. Her adult life is lonely and boring, until she is kidnapped and on a boat about to be delivered to a sex trafficker when she is rescued by Gray. He is former military and part of a private mercenary group. Allye may have been rescued but she is still in grave danger of being kidnapped again. Can Gray and his group keep her safe or will the psychopathic killer and trafficker successfully get her in his grasp? A riveting tale of danger, sex, perversion and survival. I found the characters intriguing and really enjoyed reading the book.
WOW
This book is full of suspense, attraction and ultimately love. Poor Allye, my heart broke for her after what she went through. She was kidnapped to be sold to a "master" who was willing to pay any price to add her to his collection. The mercenary team was to intercept the money and hopefully gain Intel into the missing women. Never did they expect to find Allye on the boat.
What starts off as a rescue quickly turns into so much more.
I'm hoping for one of the other girl's stories in the next book but I have a feeling that won't be the case and it'll be something entirely new for one of the people on the team.
Once again Susan Stoker brings us a new romantic suspense series that will have you glued to the story from page one straight through to the last sentence! One of the things I really enjoy about Susan Stoker's heroines is that they are strong women in their own right, but not too strong that they can't accept help from their Alpha heroes. In this case, Allye is a strong independent woman who has had to deal with a lot in her life. However, despite everything she has been through, Allye has managed to prevail. But now that she has caught the attention of a human trafficker who wants her to be a part of his personal collection, she just might need some help which is when the Mountain Mercenaries get involved. One man, in particular, Gray has no intention of letting Allye be captured by the trafficker again and he makes it his mission to save her. Gray has his own personal demons to overcome, but he is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to protecting those he loves.
This book set the stage for what promises to be a great series. Plenty of romance and suspense that are a hallmark of her novels, this was a very enjoyable story. Plus with the added teaser in the epilogue, I can't wait for the next book!
Susan Stoker does a good job of building characters and creating hot and steamy relationships. As in her other series, Mountain Mercenaries has a damsel in distress that is saved by the hunky, withdrawn Ex-Navy Seal. Great romance series that is light and will make the reader swoon.
A new series featuring the Mountain Mercenaries and what a wild ride I think this series will be with all of the ex-military men and their mission to bring justice to those who prey on others. The series gets started off with a bang with Gray rescuing Allye from a human trafficker and does not stop. The part of the story I liked the best was the beginning after Gray rescues Allye and they are spending time swimming and swimming and asking questions and getting to know each other – in a friendly way. So very sweet. Then we get to more action. As with all of Ms. Stoker’s stories, the action is non-stop and the race to see who wins the battle of good versus evil is harrowing. Love these two characters and the contradictions of their lives that brings them together. Looking forward to more of the Mountain Mercenaries.
This is my first Susan Stoker book and I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Grayson “Gray” Rogers jaded by a deployment gone bad now a former Navy Seal, working for the Mountain Mercenaries. His mission is to find and stop the man/group who is kidnapping women for sex trafficking.
Allye Martin abandoned by her mother and in and out of foster homes believes karma is against her. She works hard and is a kind and helpful person but things always go wrong. Now she is kidnapped off the street and taken to a boat and held prisoner by some seriously bad men. Gray never thought the missing woman would be on the boat they were it intercept.
Gray is a hot alpha male with a soft underbelly, Allye is a strong and solid woman with a past that would make many people crumble but she made the best of what she had.
Gray and Allye form a bond in the hours after her rescue, when they go their separate ways neither can stop thinking of the other. Uncertainty keeps them from contacting each other until Allye needs help. Can Gray keep her safe or will she fall into the hands of a psycho?
This is a fantastic new series by Susan Stoker! All of her other books are amazing, and this book is no exception! It is a new series, but not so different than her other series. This is a series about mercenaries, and we caught a glimpse of them in another book. There is, of course, still action and drama. There is a dramatic rescue mission, and Allye is no pushover. I love how Susan’s female characters are strong, and they are not weak and waiting for the males to come to their rescue. Gray and Allye make an amazing couple, and they are perfect for each other.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book.
This is the first book in the new spinoff series titled Mountain Mercenaries. A group made up of former elite warriors who aim to help those defenseless, mostly women who are abused or sold in sex trafficking. Their leader is a man by the name of Rex.
The members of Mountain Mercenaries are at times overly alptha males who do not see life as white or black but rather in the darker shades of gray.
One of these men is Gray Rogers, a former Navy SEAL . He’s been assigned to help Allye, a woman who has been kidnapped by someone that is suspected of sex trafficking. During the rescue we get a chance to find out more about Allye and her heartbreaking past, and about Gray.
The story is filled with suspense, bad guys , good guys, sex and romance.
For me it was more of a 3.5 stars, but I respect the author’s talent and dedication and realize my view of the darker gray shades the story depicts, is subjective.
I voluntarily read this book entrusted to me by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

Excellent book and definitely deserve 5 stars.
I really enjoyed this book, and the characters are believable. The scenes between them are so hot, so be ready to have a good time.
I was given this book from netgalley to give an honest review.
Defending Allye was a breath of fresh air. I enjoyed the characters and storyline built by Ms. Stoker. Allye...so cool. And Gray...major heart eyes. This was the first book by her that I’d read, but I’ll definitely be reading more. I can’t wait for more of Ro!
Defending Allye! What a GREAT story!! Full of suspense, intrigue and sexy times! Gray is a former Navy SEAL now Mountain Mercenary on a simple assignment to gather information. What he finds instead is a kidnapped woman in need of help. Allye is a dancer who has an obsessive admirer who has paid for her to be kidnapped. From the moment Gray sets eyes. on Allye the sparks fly and the excitement begins. I could not put it down right from the beginning!!
Just wow! I loved this story. Some of the scenes are hard to read and I found myself crying for Allye and all her heartache. I also loved Gray and the whole Mountain Mercenaries team. Gray seems like such a caring old soul. I look forward to reading about the whole team.
I enjoyed this book and was happy to get a new series with the Mountain Mercenaries!!! We had gotten introduced to them in the last series she had (Ace Securities) and I enjoyed that series too, no you do not need to read it it was a just comment because I like Susan Stoker and I like reading her series hope you will to. In this one we get to meet Gray who is on a mission to find out who are the ones responsible for human trafficking and stop them. On one of his missions he ends up saving Allye, and he was surprised by her she was strong, funny, beautiful and composed considering how he found her. They are attracted to each other but didn't want to act on it since they live in 2 different states and with 2 different goals. Allye remembers something she needs to give the Mountain Mercenary to assist them with their mission and also since she feels she is being watched, when she gets to the guys her life and his will change because their attraction is strong to hold back. We have more problems that arise but with each other and the group they will be able to overcome..I can't wait to the next one...Thanks Susan for an enjoyable book! Enjoy my friends.
I have been looking forward to Stoker’s new series Mountain Mercenaries and was definitely not disappointed. This new series is a spin-off from her Ace Security series and this book was a hit from the first page to the last. Who does not love a good rescue story that is dicey at every turn, keeps your pulse pounding, has unexpected elements and a hot alpha SEAL who takes no prisoners? That is just some of what you get with this amazing story.
Allye Martin has had a rough go with life, mostly due to her appearance. From her uniqueness, she has always stood out and had trouble. She was bullied, made fun of and called all sorts of names leaving her emotionally and mentally scarred. She has struggled hard to get where she is and has always thought karma was her enemy. It seemed like every time something good was on the horizon, something bad would take its place and it would be worse. Case in point, when she was snagged off the street and held captive on a boat being taken to who knows where. I love the fact that even in the worst of circumstance, she was resilient and kept a level head and was able to help herself and even her rescuer.
Gray Rogers was a former Navy SEAL and current mercenary working with a specialized team of ex-special forces men under the direction of the mysterious Rex. Currently working on a sex trafficking case, an ocean rescue was an unexpected complication to his current mission. Expecting to interrupt an exchange and gather necessary intel to mount a rescue, the strong spirited woman with unique eyes was a surprise. Realizing that she was their intended rescue changed the game and upped the stakes. He was intrigued by her spirit and drawn to her strength and wit. Knowing the man behind Allye’s abduction would try again and stop at nothing to obtain his goal, Gray would do whatever it took to protect her and bring the monster to justice.
The bad guy, Nightingale, was a creepy messed up guy. He was a collector, of sorts, and had his sight set on Allye. He was menacing and depraved enough to have the hairs on your arms rising and goosebumps pebbling your flesh. Stoker definitely knows how to write a villain.
Aside from the main characters, Gray and Allye, the introduction of the rest of the team members had me wanting to learn more about them right away. They all sound intriguing and I know they will have awesome stories to tell.
You can always count on Stoker’s books to entertain you from beginning to end. They are easy to read, full of great characters, romance, and suspense. They always involve strong women who can handle themselves and gruff alpha men who take charge and go after what they want. And they include challenges that have to be overcome along with a twisted bad guy to keep you on your toes and guessing. Stoker brings to light problems the average person faces, being weight, self-esteem, speech impediments, etc. and handles them with care and respect. Defending Allye will be a great addition to your book collection.

I found both characters were quite strong, and honest with their feelings and opinions. Allye's braveness in believing that all will be ok if she puts herself into harm's way to help stop things from happening again, was quite trusting.
Gray had quite the first impression with Allye, and was surprised with her ability to stay strong. No wonder he fell so quickly!
AWESOME story by Susan Stoker. Kept me hooked from the first page. Nice plot development and characters. Enjoyed it!
Another great read by Susan Stoker! Alphas males, strong women both doing what they can to fight evil. This book stays with you. I love happy endings and you get it but the men and women really have to fight to get there. Part of a series and a must read!
I have read several book by Susan Stoker and her writing style takes times for this readers to jump into.
While this book is following a set of characters previous introduced readers will be able to grab on to this new series and enjoy the ride.
Defending Allye is a spin- from the Ace Security series which I really enjoyed that series.
The characters are a little over the top in the alpha department but that is what Susan Stoker is known for. Allye is a little to hard headed and Gray has a temper he needs to learn to control as they work together in this adventure of romance mixed with action.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy of Susan Stokers Defending Allye (Mountain Mercenaries #1)
