Susan Stoker’s New series is a hit. Defending Allye has great characters and page turning suspense!

A big thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Publishing for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. First time reading this author. This is the first in a series. I rated this book as a 3.5. It has stong, yummy men, and a strong female lead whose paste haunts her. Karma has not been kind. Interesting plot. I liked it but couldn't connect with the characters. I think most romance readers would enjoy.

The story starts on an exciting note - Gray and his Mountain Mercenaries are on a mission to find and stop a human trafficker. They have boarded a boat mid-sea and are kicking butt. The men are surprised to find one of the victims, Allye, is aboard and needs rescuing. Unfortunately, the big boss isn't aboard to grab. So even with the rescue, Allye is still in danger. Allye is a feisty woman with strength honed from a tough early life. It hasn't ruined her attitude or outlook, however. It's obvious what a man like Gray would see in her.. The .story does have more darkness than most of Stoker's books and there is also more horrific abuse of women. So if you are squeamish, you may want to skip over some parts or go for a lighter book. There is, however, plenty of suspense, action, romance, hot sex and a HEA..

The first in a new series by Stoker this one starts with a "simple job" for the Mountain Mercenaries but quickly turns into something a lot more complex!!

Like other books by this author there is plenty of action (take that whichever way you want!), interesting characters - a particularly evil and creepy bad guy - and enough suspense to leave you wanting the next book in the series immediately!

Can't wait to see what happens to the rest of the team

Susan Stoker writes another enticing book with Defending Allye. Mercenaries and mayhem are big features in this newest series of Stoker. The book was crafted with just enough suspense and romance. I enjoyed Allye’s attitude and her optimism in life when rough circumstances occurred. Gray was an outstanding alpha male doing his best to protect and defend Allye in her time of need.
I am really looking forward to reading the other stories of this mercenary team.

I have read this author numerous times. This was a good story, but thought that some of the shocking and grim details woven into the story were for shock value and perhaps were not necessary to make the story work. I thought too that it was confusing as to why the story started on that boat. Overall a good story, but I still miss the quality and cohesiveness of the "Caroline" series.

This is the first book in the Mountain Mercenaries series that was introduced in the last book of the Ace Security series. This one is about Gray Rogers and Allye Martin. Gray is a mercenary that was hired by Rex after he saw some horrible things happen while he was enlisted. He is sent out on a mission to intercept a payment for a sex slave never expecting that she is already onboard. Allye is a dancer that was kidnapped right off the street on her way home. She manages to keep her cool even when she realizes exactly what is going to happen to her all the way through to her rescue. After being rescued neither expect to see each other again. Even though they both think about the other often and can't seem to get the other person out of their head. But all of that changes when she thinks she is being followed and she contacts Gray's boss asking for help. Neither understand exactly what her going to Colorado Springs for protection will truly push into motion though or how much it will change their lives.

I absolutely loved this book!! All of this author's characters have such strength but this one is even beyond what I was expecting! Allye goes through something no one should have to go through and is rescued before the truly horrific can happen. But through it all she keeps her head and manages to think about what she can do to help herself and her rescuer! Gray is a man who saw some hellish things while overseas and still sees the worst of humanity, but he has been given a chance to be able to do the right thing. Even if it's outside of the law. They both have issues from their past's but in the end they manage to work through those issues and become the strong couple you know they truly can be. Even when the worst happens, they still manage to be happy and healthy together. I loved every minute of it!

Susan Stoker never disappoints. This book was SO good. There was action, chemistry right off the bad, humor and hot sex all rolled into a book that I could not stop reading. Allye is a dancer and is kidnapped and Gray and the team save her but that's only where the story starts. I don't give anything away in my reviews. I loved the eye-roll thing because I do that all the time and his mom is just the cutest! "Mom's don't like me...eyeroll!!!" lol. You must read this book!!!

I really liked the connection between Allye and Gray. From the moment they first met, there was something familiar with them. The more they got to know each other, the more comfortable they became with each other. The fact that their lives were nearly completely opposite didn't factor into the growing feelings between them. The bad guy was so bad, he was truly scary. The fight against him could only end up one way, and justice was served. An action packed romance from the first chapter that had me invested in the story and the characters from the start!

DEFENDING ALLYE by Susan Stoker. This is book one of a new series by Ms. Stoker. Having read many of her previous books, I was looking forward to this one. Well, Ms. Stoker did not disappoint! This story tells the tale of Allye and Gray. I adored Allye. She's sweet and a bit quirky and a touch naive, despite having a bit of a rough life thus far. She made me laugh and smile throughout. Gray is tough and rough and uber sexy! He's all about protecting his woman and I LOVE IT! Since this is a book about a mercenary, yes, there is danger and suspense. And, I tell you, Ms. Stoker knows how to write a bad guy. Her villains are often the devil himself and this one was no exception. I found I was often anxious, not knowing when or if the villain would strike. This story encompasses a lot - love, family and friends, danger and even a bit of heartbreak. Ms. Stoker, you have hit this one out of the park! I cannot wait for book two! (received ARC for honest review)

As you would expect with a mercenary book the beginning was very violent and quite graphic. Gray is extremely alpha and Allye is a strong capable woman that enjoys Grays’s alpha tendencies. There’s lots of action and suspense. It’s full of instant love that tends to get a little sappy. Overall I really enjoyed the book. I received an advance review copy in exchange for an honest review.

Read my 5-star review of Defending Allye by Susan Stoker
Start of a new series.
We met these guys when Ryder went to see them. I’m going to enjoy these new guys and the women who love them.
Several times I was holding my breath nervously, afraid something horrible was coming. Gray and Allye were great, to and for each other.
Excited to see where else these guys take me.
Bring it

Book 1 in a new series by Susan Stoker. The book starts fast and furious and never really slows down. Gray, ex seal has been through some s**t and Allye had a rough child hood but she is strong, funny and made me laugh.. Why Mountain Men Mercenaries? Because Vengeful Veterans just didn't have the ring. **snicker**. The evil in this book, NIghtingale, is a sad but true testimony to things going on in the world today. A great read, great start to a new series, Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for the opportunity to read and review this book. I really enjoyed it!

This is the first of a new series by this author and it doesn't disappoint on any front. From the first page the reader is flung into the action and keeps the pages turning until the end to find out what happened. Great characters and storyline. Looking forward to more in this series.

E-book from net galley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.

This book is the first in a new series by Susan Stoker. I'm a fan of hers, having read her other series. Defending Allye was a very fast paced book, and I liked it over all. I would have liked to hear a bit more about the other members of the Mountain Mercenaries, but I suppose they will all be getting their own stories. I really like the character of Gray and Allye--it was a nice change to have a heroine who wasn't scared or crying all the time--and nice to have a hero who while alpha, wasn't overbearing. All in all a good read!

I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review. This was a great start of a new series. Allye seems to have a pretty unlucky life, culminating with her recent kidnapping. Gray is a mercenary/ vigilante who’s been tasked with looking for a package at sea. Unbeknownst to him Allye is there. They grew close during the rescue, each sharing life secrets during the tricky rescue. They parted shortly after the rescue but soon met up again trying to solve the mystery behind Allye’s attack. Their romance was pretty hot with a mix of sass, tenderness and alpha maleness that made them a great couple. Definitely a must read and a great start to the series. I can’t wait to read more about the other mountain mercenaries in Gray’s group and really can’t wait to find out who Rex is (although I have my suspicions). 5 stars
